12.3.-“SQL” (SQUELCH)

  • The squelch mutes the speaker of the transceiver in the absence of reception. With the squelch level correctly set, you will hear sound only while actualy receiving signals and significantly reduces battery current consumption. It is recommended that you set Level 5.

 FUNCTION “VOX” (VOICE OPERATED TRANSMISSION)
-This function is not necessary to push the [PIT] on the transceiver for transmission. Transmission is activated automatically by detecting the radio voice. When finish speaking, the transmission automatically terminated and the transceiver will automatically receive the signal. Be sure to adjust the VOX Gain level to an appropriate sensitivity to allow smooth transmission.

SELECT WIDEBAND OR NARROW BAND “WIN”
lo areas where the RF signals are saturated, you must use the narrow band of transmission to avoid Interference In adjacent channels.

 TDR (DUAL WATCH/DUAL RECEPTION)
This feature allows you to operate between frequency A and frequency B. Periodically, the transceiver checks whether a signal is received on another frequency that we have scheduled. If you receive a signal, the unit will remain in the frequency untl.1 the received signal disappears.

TOT(TRANSMJSSION TIMER)
This function can automatically control the time we transmit each time you press (PTT] on the transceiver. This feature is very useful to avoid overheating excessive power transistors of the transceiver. The transceiver will be off transmission automatically once the set time.

CTCSS/DCS
In some cases only want to establish communications in a closed user group at a particular frequency or channel, for it will use “CTCSS” or code “DCS” for the reception. The “squelch” opens only when receiving a frequency with “CTCSS” or codes “DCS” same as the programmed in your transceiver. If codes of the received signal differ from those programmed in your transceiver, the “squelch” will not open and the received signal can be heard.

Note:
The use of “CTCSS” or “DCS” in communication, does not guarantee complete confidentiality communication.

ANJ
-ANI (Automatic Number Identification) is also known as PTT ID because an ID is transmitted when the PTT button of the radio is pressed and/or released. This ID tells the dispatcher which field radio was keyed. Only could be set by PC software.

DTMF (DTMF TONE OF TRANSMITTING CODE ):

  • First, you should set the PTT-ID as BOT/EOT/BOTH
  • “OFF”-Under transmitting mode, you can’t hear the DTMF tone, while you press the key to transmit the code or code automatically transmitted.
  • “DT-ST”-Under transmitting mode, you can bear the DTMF tone, while you press the key to transmit the code.
  • ” ANI-ST”-under transmitting mode, you can hear the DTMF tone, while the code automatically transmitted.
  • “DT-ANI”–under transmitting mode, you can bear the DTMF tone, while you press the key to transmit the code or the code automatically transmitted.

SC-REV(SCAN RESUME METHOD)
This transceiver allows you to scan memory channels, all the bands or part of the bands. When the transceiver detects a communication, the scan will stop automatically.

Notes:
-“TO” (Time Operation)
Scanning will stop when it detects an active signal. The scanning will stop on each channel or active frequency for a predetermined time, after that time the scan will resume automatically.

“CO” (Carrier Operation)
The scanning will stop and remain in the frequency or channel until the active signal disappears.

SE”(Search Operation)
The scanning will stop and remain in the frequency or channel after it detects an active signal.

PTT-ID(PIT OR RELEASE PIT TO TRANSMIT THE SIGNAL CODE):

  • This feature allows you to know who call you.
  • “OFF”-Don’t transmit the code wbi. le push the P1T button.
  • “BOT”-Transmit the code while pushing the PIT button.(the code only could be set by PC software.) -“EOT”-Transmit the code while releasing the PIT button.
  • “BOTH”-Transmit the code while pushing or releasing the PTT button.

BCL(BUSY CHANNEL LOCKOUT):
The BCLO feature prevents the radio’s transmitter from being activated if a signal strong enough to break through the “noise” squelch is present. On a frequency where stations using different CTCSS or DCS codes may be active, BCLO prevents you from disrupting their communications accidentally (because your radio may be muted by its own tone decoder).

 SFT-D(direction OF FREQUENCY SHlFl):
The “OFFSET” is the difference or offset between the reception frequency and the frequency of transm.lssion for access to amateur radio repeaters. Set the “OFFSET” according to the “OFFSET” amateur radio repeater through which want to communicate.

 OFFSET(FREQUENCY SHIFl):
When communicating via a repeater, the direction of displacement of frequency should be timed to the displacement of the transmission frequency is higher or lower than the receiving frequency. example: lf we want to make communication through amateur radio repeater whose frequency input ls 145,000 MHz and 145,600 MHz is output, we select the “OFFSET” of the previous section in 0600 and the direction of travel “SHIFf” programmed to(-], so the transceiver will always 145,600 MHz in frequency and when you press (PTT] to transmit transceiver, the frequency will automatically move to 145,000MHz

STE (TAIL TONE ELIMINATION):
This function is used to activate or deactivate the transmission end of the transceiver. this final tone transmission only be used in communications between transceivers and not in communications through a repeater, which must be deactivated.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is this an older version that works like before fcc changes in march? or does this just receive?
This just recieves and can transmit on non-gmrs/from only. But if you find an older model online, such as ebay, those won’t be updated with the new FCC regulations.
  • Can you use this with a technician class license in the US?
A US Technician License gives access to all Amateur Radio frequencies above 30 megahertz, allowing these licensees the ability to communicate locally and most often within North America. This License also allows for some limited privileges on the HF (also called “short wave”) bands used for international communications if you want to use it.
  • Is this a good way to get into HAM radio?
    Yes, yes, yes.
  • Is this the “updated” version? I’m wanting the “programable” model. I see some responses that specify gen 1 which is good. Please elaborate?
This is the model locked to amateur frequencies only. This is the model causing nonhams to illegally use ham frequencies because the FCC in their great wisdom came after them.

BCL(BUSY CHANNEL LOCKOUT):

 SFT-D(direction OF FREQUENCY SHlFl):
The “OFFSET” is the difference or offset between the reception frequency and the frequency of transm.lssion for access to amateur radio repeaters. Set the “OFFSET” according to the “OFFSET” amateur radio repeater through which want to communicate.

 OFFSET(FREQUENCY SHIFl):

Asterisk [ * ] designates function changed via software

  • SQUELCH LEVEL The purpose of the Squelch is to mute the speaker when no signals are present. With the squelch correctly set, you will only hear sound when a signal is present.
  • TIME-OUT TIMER (TOT) The TOT limits the length of a user’s transmission. The purpose of the TOT is to prevent transmitting for a long period of time, causing thermal damage to the radio. And alert will sound when the limit for that transmission has been reached.
  • SCANNING Scanning is used for hands off monitoring of your favorite frequencies. When the transceiver options are set to SCAN (via software), setting the channel selector to channel 16 directs the radio to scan the selected channels from 1 -15.
    • Transceiver stops scanning when a signal is detected and continues when signal is gone.
    • If there are less than 2 channels, it cannot scan. (Go figure)
    • On channel 16, Press and Hold the PTT and MONI buttons while switching ON the transceiver to turn the Scanning ON or OFF.
    • If FM radio function is activated, Radio cannot scan.

    • Any channel 1-16, Press and Hold MONI only while switching ON the transceiver will Deactivate Voice Prompt for that session only.
  • VOX (VOICE OPERATED TRANSMIT) VOX eliminates the need for using the PTT key to transmit. The transmitter is keyed when the VOX circuit senses you are speaking into the microphone.
    • When operating the VOX function, set the VOX Gain level to recognize the desired sound level.
    • If level is too sensitive, transceiver will key with noise in the background.
    • If level is not sensitive enough, it will not pick up your voice. Set level for smooth transmission.
    • On channel 1-5, Press and Hold the PTT and MONI buttons while switching ON the transceiver to turn the VOX ON or OFF.

EMERGENCY ALARM

On channel 11, Press and Hold the PTT and MONI buttons while switching ON the transceiver to turn the Alarm Function ON or OFF.

This is a function for your receiver only. You will Not transmit the alarm.

BATTERY SAVER

BATTERY LOW ALERT

Reminds you that battery needs recharging. Alert tone will sound and Red LED will blink.

MONITOR

When no signal is being received, Press and Hold the MONI. This is helpful for adjusting volume level and receiving weak signals.

  • BUSY CHANNEL LOCK-OUT (BCL) BCL prevents you from transmitting on a channel if a signal is present. Pressing the PTT switch while a channel is in use will emit an alert tone and inhibit the transmitter.
  • BEEP TONE If turned on, radio will give short tone to indicate that there is nothing programmed for that channel.
  • CTCSS / DCS CTCSS (Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System) or (Digital Coded Squelch).     CTCSS / DCS Description You may sometimes want to hear calls only from specific persons or groups. This option allows you to ignore unwanted calls from others on the same frequency. These tones are sub-audible (cannot be heard) and are selectable via software.

NOTE: These tones do NOT cause your conversation to be private or scrambled. It only relieves you from listening to unwanted conversations.
