How to Set Up Blink Mini

Follow these steps to add your Mini camera to a new, or existing Blink system.

1. On the Blink app home screen, tap the + icon in the top right corner.

2. As seen in the image below, tap the Blink tiny camera as suggested by an arrow. The “Scan QR Code” screen appears, and your camera may ask for permission to scan the QR code. This is a method for automatically entering the serial number. You may also manually input the number. After the device has been identified, it requires a system.

3. Give your system a name in the text entry form if you wish to add the Mini to a new system, and it will be created. To proceed with adding the Mini to an existing system, simply press the system name.

4. After you click “next,” you’ll be directed to connect your camera and wait for one light to flash blue and the other to remain solid green. If this is the case, touch “discover device,” and a connection request appears: “blink”. Click on the name of blink.

5. Tap “Join,” then select your Wi-Fi network from the pop-up menu. If you’re adding the camera to an existing system, make sure you connect it to the same WiFi network as your other devices.

6. The Camera Added screen appears when the Blink servers are ready. To finish the setting and return to the app’s home screen, tap Done.

• Is Blink Mini capable of recording indefinitely?
  When the Blink Mini cameras are turned on, they only record footage based on motion detection. The Blink Mini also has the ability to preserve live view sessions. The Blink Mini cameras don’t record continuously, but you may leave them armed for motion detection for as long as you like.
• Is it possible to hack the Blink Mini camera?
  Blink cameras contain a number of security flaws. Any of these security flaws might allow unauthorized access to the cameras, allowing for spying, snooping, and the theft of film and data. Hackers may even listen in on you with the two-way audio streaming feature.
• What is the purpose of the Blink Mini?
  The Blink Mini is a plug-in interior HD security camera with two-way communication and infrared night vision that connects to you through the Blink app. You can keep an eye on the inside of your house at any time of day or night.
• Is it possible to see live video on a Blink camera?
  Live View, as the name implies, allows you to see and hear live video and audio in the Blink app or on some Alexa-enabled devices. Because the camera sends Live View across your Wi-Fi network, the upload speed must be at least 2 MB per second (from your camera to the Blink app).

FAQS

How are these different than my Blink XT2 cameras?
I just spoke with a Blink representative on the phone, he informed me that if you have a blink account activated before 4/15/20 using the older cameras (i.e. XT2), if you purchase the new cameras, they can be added to your existing system and they will be able to utilize the free cloud storage since the account is grandfathered in. The cloud storage paid plan is only for accounts made after.

Does the back mount on the new outdoor cam fit the xt2 mount i already have screwed to the wall? it would be easy to change cameras if the same mounts?
The new Blink Indoor and Outdoor cameras have a thinner sleek new design, however, the mounting kit included with the XT and XT2 are still compatible with the Blink Indoor and Blink Outdoor cameras.

After the “two years” are the batteries replaceable or are you supposed to dispose of the camera?
Batteries don’t last very long. The two years is very deceiving. We were replacing batteries in busy areas like our driveway and front door too often. Can’t use rechargeable batteries and lithium aren’t cheap. I opted to buy 3 – 30 ft usb type C cables and connect the cameras to an outlet. No battery issues any longer but I think Amazon (Blink) needs to review this 2-year battery life hype: perhaps a month in normal use in an active area, residential. I was on the phone with them for 2 hours. That’s how I found out I could plug them in. This is for the XT2.

What is the difference between these and the X2 Cameras that work outdoors as well?

Will this version have the option for continuous live view (without needing to click “continue” constantly)?
There is a limit to the continuous live viewing on the Blink cameras. Currently, you are able to view up to 5 minutes at a time in 30-second intervals. After 5 minutes you would have to initiate a new live view session.

Will the old blink xt2 cameras work with the new sync module?!
It is supposed to be compatible, but based on what they say, the XT2 camera will not have all abilities like the new one.

I have the original system. If I buy the new system with cameras, can I also use the original cameras with the new system?
Correct. They connect all the same

The sync module 2 allows local video storage & no subscription fee does not work with my blink xt2, xt, & gen1, so only works with w/outdoor cams?!
Only Blink Indoor and Outdoor and Blink Mini cameras will be compatible with local storage functionality.

Does Blink work with Siri?
Currently, Blink only integrates with IFTTT and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices.

If 4 cameras are purchased can one of them be installed at a second location 3 miles away?
You are able to split up the cameras from a system purchase however to use a Blink Outdoor camera in another location you would also need to purchase another sync module for the second location. The Blink Mini can operate on its own (no sync module required).

Is there a way to start a live video feed when the Camara is recording movement?
Yes just press the camera button when looking at the video it will go to direct view.

How does it mount?
Should you wish to place your Blink cameras anywhere other than a flat surface we do ship each camera with a mount and mounting hardware screws.

I currently own two Blink mini cameras, can I add 3 of the battery-operated outdoor cameras to my existing setup?
Yes, you can. I just added an outdoor camera to an older existing system that has 3 interior cameras.

Will this system work with google assistant?
The Blink system works with Amazon Alexa.

Is the Blink App free?
The Blink Home Monitor APP is a free download found in the APP Store (iOS), Google Play Store (Android) or Amazon Appstore (Fire devices).

I have a 2-year-old blink camera and module. can I add a new blink camera to the existing setup?
Yes. I have new ones along with some much older ones, all on the same system.

Can I connect a tv monitor or use a computer to monitor?
Currently Blink only integrates with IFTTT and the Amazon Alexa-enabled devices: Echo, Dot, Tap, Show, Spot, FireTV, Fire TV Cube, Fire TV Stick and Fire Tablets.

Does it come with a sync module?
The Blink Systems/Kits would ship with the sync module. The sync module does not ship with the add-on cameras.

Do I need to purchase the “echo show” in order to make this work on my amazon fire tablet?
I have not tried it on my fire but try downloading the blink app and go from there.

Will this be activated by sound only when needed?
Yes, it will send notifications to your smartphone via the blink app. It is motion-activated; it will only sound when the camera detects motion.

Do you need outlets to set them up?
Not for the camera if it is battery operated, but you do for the link to the Internet, which will allow you to see and record what the camera sees.
