Safety & Warnings

Handle with care and inspect regularly to ensure product is in good working order.
If this product, power supply cord or plug shows any signs of damage: stop use, unplug the product and contact Kogan.com support.
  • Read all instructions before using the appliance and retain for reference.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • This appliance is designed for consumer use: follow directions and use only as described.
  • Do not use with an extension cord unless necessary, and if so, ensure it is suitably rated and it is handled safely as is the product’s own power cord:
  • Do not allow the power cord to be exposed to water, heat, direct sunlight or overhang where it can be pulled or otherwise be damaged or pose a hazard.
  • If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by a party authorised by Kogan.com in order to avoid potential hazards.
  • This charger is only suitable for the types of battery specified and should not be used to recharge NICAD or any other non-specified types of battery.
Keep the battery charger in a clean, dry area while not in use.
  • When a normal lead acid battery is being charged, the release of gas may cause the fluid to bubble. As the gas is flammable, keep the area ventilated and free of naked lights.
  • Only connect and disconnect the battery leads when the mains supply is disconnected.
  • Avoid getting battery fluid (electrolyte) on your skin or clothes. It is acidic and can cause burns. If this occurs you should rinse the affected area with water immediately.
Never charge a frozen battery. If the battery fluid (electrolyte) is frozen, take the battery to a warm area and allow it to thaw before you begin charging.
  • Never place a battery on top of the charger or vice versa.
Do not touch the battery clamps together when the charger is on. Never operate the charger if it has received an impact, been dropped, or is otherwise damaged.
  • This appliance contains no user-serviceable parts. If it suffers any failure or damage, cease usage and contact Kogan Support after consulting the Troubleshooting section of this manual.

Before Use

A) Batteries with cell caps (maintenance required):

  • Remove the battery from your car in order to avoid possible damage to the alternating current generator.
(In order to avoid damage to the car body from possible battery fluid spills, it is advisable to completely dismantle the battery.)
  • Remove the covering caps from the battery cells and only replace them after the charging procedure, so that any gases which build up during the charging procedure can dissipate. (It is unavoidable that some acid will spill during the charging procedure.)
  • Check that the level of liquid in each battery cell is above the recommended filling mark.
If not, then the cell must be filled up with ionized or distilled water – do not under any circumstances use tap water!

B) Batteries without cell caps (maintenance not required):

  • When charging batteries without cell caps, carefully follow the battery manufacturer’s instructions.

Operation

  1. Attach the positive battery charger leads (red) to the positive connecting terminal of the battery, indicated by “P” or “+”.
  2. Attach the negative battery charger leads (black) to the negative connecting terminal of the battery, indicated by “N” or”-“.
NOTE: Ensure good contact is made between the crocodile clips and the connecting terminals.
  3. Plug your trainer charger unit into a domestic power socket. The charger may take up to about 7 seconds to determine if a 6V or 12V battery is being connected.
  4. The battery charger will now be in standby operating mode and the “12V”, “GEL” and “ON” LEDs will be illuminated. Press start to run this mode or change options.
  5. When the “Full” LED indicator illuminates, the battery is completely charged and it will switch to floating operation mode.
When the mains plug is disconnected from the power supply, the battery charger will switch off.
The battery charger automatically will switch back to standby mode if the direct current cable clamps are removed from while the mains plug is still connected to power.
