Fundamental recommendations regarding safety

Dear Customer – The plug on this appliance will get ‘warm’ during use, this is perfectly normal. This product is A HIGH POWER HEATING APPLIANCE designed to our usual high standards but please make sure your wall sockets are in good condition and the plug is inserted correctly to avoid any accidental overheating. We suggest that you check the plug AND THE SOCKET regularly if the heater is in prolonged use, if you are in any doubt please consult an electrician.

SAFETY WARNINGS

Danger!
As the appliance operates using electricity, electric shocks can not be excluded.
Therefore, follow the safety recommendations given:

• To avoid risk of cable overheating, extension leads must not be used in powering this appliance.
• If the power cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center in order to eliminate all risk. Please contact Customer Experience, see enclosed guarantee.
• Do not use the heater in a bathroom or in the vicinity of bathtubs, washbasins, showers or swimming pools.

• The heater must be positioned at least 50cm from furniture or other objects.
• Do not use this appliance in rooms measuring less than 4m².
• Do not place items over the radiator (such as to dry washing).
• In order to avoid a hazard due to inadvertent resetting of the thermal cutout, this appliance must not be supplied through an external switching device such as a timer, or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the utility

WARNING: In order to avoid overheating, never under any circumstances cover the appliances during operation, as this would lead to dangerous overheating.

Please note:

• The appliance must not be placed immediately under a fixed power socket.
• Always use the radiator in the vertical position.
• When you turn the appliance on for the first time, operate it at maximum for at least two hours.
• It is normal for the appliance to make “creaking” noises when first turned on.
• This appliance is filled with a precise quantity
  of oil and repairs requiring it to be opened must be carried out by the manufacturer or an authorized technical assistance center only. In the event of oil leaks, please contact Customer Experience, see enclosed guarantee.
• As with any electrical appliance, whilst the instructions aim to cover as many eventualities as possible, caution and common sense should be applied when operating your appliance, particularly in the vicinity of young children.

Use in compliance with intended use
Use this heater only as described in this manual. All other use is considered improper. This appliance is not suitable for commercial use. The manufacturer is not liable for damage deriving from improper use of the appliance. This is a household appliance only. It is not intended to be used in:

• staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments;
• farm houses;
• by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments;
• bed and breakfast type environments.

Use in this manner will invalidate the manufacturers warranty.

Disposing of the appliance
In compliance with European directive 2002/96/EC, the appliance must not be disposed of with household waste, but taken to an authorised waste separation and recycling centre.

Introduction
Thank you for choosing the TRD Oil Filled Radiator. We hope you enjoy using your new appliance. Take a few minutes to read these instructions. This will avoid all risks and damage to the appliance.

USE

Fitting the wheels

Turn the radiator upside down on a rug or soft surface to prevent damaging the paint finish. Fully unfold the wheels by turning them outwards (Fig. 1). Turn the radiator back to its upright position.

Caution
Always operate the heater in upright position only (wheels on the bottom, controls on top).
Any other position could create a hazardous situation.
Location
The heater should not be placed immediately below a power outlet. Do not use this radiator in rooms with a floor area of less than 4 m2 (43 sq. ft. ).
Connection

• Before using the appliance check that your supply voltage is the same of that shown on the rating label of the unit and that the power socket and power supply line correspond to the load specified.
• Check also the current capacity of your fuses. CONNECT YOUR HEATER TO EARTH PROVIDED SOCKET ONLY.
• This appliance complies with directive 2004/108/ec on electromagnetic compatibility.

Keep loose clothing or bedding, furniture and flammable material away from the heater’s wall outlet.

Turning on

Insert the plug into an electrical outlet, rotate the thermostat knob to maximum and turn the unit on as follows using the power selector:

• Turn the power selector to position MIN to select minimum output (the min light will be on).
• Turn the power selector to position MED to select medium output (the min/med light will be on).
• Turn the power selector to position MAX to select maximum output (the lights will be on).

Adjusting the thermostat

When the room has reached the * desired temperature, turn the thermostat knob slowly in an anti-clockwise direction until you hear a “click” and not beyond it. The thermostat will then adjust the set temperature automatically and keep it constant. If your unit is a three-output version, in intermediate seasons or on days when temperatures are not particularly cold, select minimum output to optimize savings and consumption.

Antifreeze function

Turn the thermostat dial to the position and the power selector to position MAX. The appliance will maintain a minimum room temperature of approximately 5°C, thus preventing freezing while conserving energy. In models that come with a timer, tabs must be set in the inward position.

Reminder

To completely shut the appliance off, turn the power selector to the “0” position and then unplug the appliance from the outlet.

UNITS WITH TIMER

How to use the timer

To program heating, proceed as follows:

• Look at the time on your clock or watch. If it is 10 p.m., turn the numbered timer disk clockwise until the number 22 (10 p.m.) on the disk coincides with the pointer (3) on the timer. Set the periods of time when you want the appliance to work by pushing the teeth (1) inward. Each tooth (1) corresponds to a period of 15 minutes.
  This will leave visible sectors which correspond to the periods of operation (2). When set, the radiator will operate automatically each day during the times programmed (important: the radiator must always be plugged into the socket).
• To change the programming, move the teeth back into the initial position and set the new periods of operation.
• To turn the appliance off completely, as well as turning the knob to the off position, you must also unplug it from the power outlet to avoid continued operation of the timer.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT ROTATE CLOCK DIAL COUNTERCLOCKWISE.
The timer is like an electric clock, and will only work when plugged into a power supply. When unplugged, the timer stops and must be later re-set.

Timer override

If you wish to override the timer settings, push the timer switch to position I (fig.2) manual (timer override). To return to timed operation push the switch back to the middle position (fig.2).
NOTE: if the timer switch is at the 0 position (fig. 2), the heater is off and will not operate).

Safety device

A safety device shuts the radiator down in the case of overheating. To start the radiator up again, contact Customer Experience. See enclosed guarantee leaflet.

Maintenance and service/Troubleshooting

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

Always unplug the heater from the power outlet and allow the radiator to cool.
Wipe radiator with a soft damp cloth; do not use detergents or abrasives. Should the radiator not be in use over a certain length of time, wind the cord around the holder and store it in a dry place. This appliance has been built to last for many years of trouble-free service. In case of malfunction or doubt, do not try to repair the heater by yourself: this might increase the risk of fire and electric shock. Please refer to the enclosed guarantee leaflet for service and assistance details.

TROUBLESHOOTING

PROBLEM: CAUSE: SOLUTION

The appliance doesn’t work:

• Be sure it is plugged in and that the electrical outlet is working.
• Check for any obstruction.
• The temperature may be set too low:
• Plug into the power outlet.
  
• Remove the obstruction and let the appliance cool down. If the appliance doesn’t work please contact Customer Experience.
  
• Set the temperature to a higher position.

Electrical requirements

Before using this appliance ensure that the voltage indicated on the product corresponds with the main voltage in your home, if you are in any doubt about your supply contact your local electricity company.
The flexible mains lead is supplied connected to a B.S. 1363 fused plug having a fuse of 13 amp capacity.
Should this plug not fit the socket outlets in your home, it should be cut off and replaced with a suitable plug, following the procedure outlined below.
Note: Such a plug cannot be used for any other appliance and should therefore be properly disposed of and not left where children might find it and plug it into a supply socket – with the obvious consequent danger.
Please note: We recommend the use of good quality plugs and wall sockets that can be switched off when the machine is not in use.
IMPORTANT: The wires in the mains lead fitted to this appliance are coloured in accordance with the following code:

As the colors of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the colored markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

• The wire which is colored green and yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol or colored green or green and yellow.
• The wire which is colored blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or colored black.
• The wire which is colored brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or colored red

When wiring the plug, ensure that all strands of wire are securely retained in each terminal. Do not forget to tighten the mains lead clamp on the plug. If your electricity supply point has only two pin socket outlets, or if you are in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
Should the mains lead ever require replacement, it is essential that this operation be carried out by a qualified electrician and should only be replaced with a flexible cord of the same size.
After replacement of a fuse in the plug, the fuse cover must be refitted. If the fuse cover is lost, the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained. The color of the correct replacement fuse cover is that of the colored insert in the base of the fuse recess or elsewhere on the plug. Always state this color when ordering a replacement fuse cover. Only 13 amp replacement fuses which are asta approved to B.S. 1362 should be fitted.
This appliance conforms to the Norms EN 55014 regarding the suppression of radio interference.

Installing the appliance

• The appliance must be installed in compliance with national standards regulating electrical systems.

• The materials used for packaging can be recycled. You are therefore recommended to dispose of them in special differentiated waste collection containers.

Electrical connection

Before plugging the appliance into the outlet, check that:

• The outlet’s power supply corresponds to the value indicated on the rating label on the back of the appliance;
• The outlet and electrical circuit are adequate for the appliance;
• The outlet is a 3-hole grounded outlet . If this is not the case, you must choose another outlet. Failure to follow these important safety instructions absolves the manufacturer of all liability.
• If it becomes necessary, the power cable must be replaced by a qualified professional only.
• The instructions below will enable you to prepare your air conditioner for operation as efficiently as possible. Before use, make sure the air intake and outlet grilles are unobstructed.

USE

Note: This appliance features an auto evaporative function to remove excess condensate water during cooling and dehumidifiying modes.

AIR CONDITIONING WITH WALL INSTALLATION

For optimal results set up your appliance in this way:

• Screw the hose adaptor B3 and B5 to the hose’s end B4 as shown in figure 1a.
• Fit the assembled air exhaust hose adapter B5 in the housing at the back of the appliance. Align the open lock symbol on the adapter (B5) with the arrow on the back of the unit. Turn adapter counter clockwise until the closed lock symbol is aligned with the arrow, as shown in figure 1b.
  
  
• Respect the distances given in figure 2 below.
  

Proceed as follows:

• Drill a hole ø 5,25 inches (134 mm) in an outside wall or through a wooden kickboard. Respect the dimensions and height of the hole given in figure 2 and 3.
  
• Fit the wall flange B1 into the hole.
• Fit the assembled hose B3-B4-B5 into the wall flange B1.
• When the air hose B4 is not connected, the drilled hole can be closed with the flange cap B1.
• When installing the air conditioner, you should leave a door slightly open little as 1/2“(1 cm) to guarantee correct ventilation and room pressure.
• Keep the air hoses as short and free of curves as possible to avoid constrictions.

Note

As special tools are required for this type of installation, we suggest you have the appliance installed by specialized personnel.

• Fit the wall flange B1 into the hole.
• Fit the assembled hose B3-B4-B5 into the wall flange B1.
•  When the air hose B4 is not connected, the drilled hole can be closed with the flange cap B1.
• When installing the air conditioner, you should leave a door slightly open little as 1/2“(1 cm) to guarantee correct ventilation and room pressure.
• Keep the air hoses as short and free of curves as possible to avoid constrictions.

Note:

As special tools are required for this type of installation, we suggest you have the appliance installed by specialized personnel.

AIR CONDITIONING WITH WINDOW INSTALLATION

You can also set up in a double-hung window:

• Place the window bracket in the window sill, extend the bracket fully within the window frame, fix the bracket in place using the locking pin. Attach the provided foam stripping B12 to the top of the window bracket and then lower the window onto the bracket. (Should the window bracket be too large for the window, the plastic can be cut with a saw by a qualified professional.)
• Fit the air exhaust hose B4 in the relevant housing located on the rear side of the appliance using hose adapter B5. Align the open lock symbol on the adapter B5 with the arrow on the back of the unit. Turn adapter counter clockwise until the closed lock symbol is aligned with the arrow, as shown in figure 1b.
• Connect the window outlet vent B2 to the other end of the exhaust hose using hose adapter B3.
• Insert the window outlet vent B2 of the exhaust hose into the slot of the window bracket (fig. 4).
  

Other set-up methods:

• Thanks to the locking pins, it’s possible to use the window bracket also for sliding windows. Position the hole of the bracket so to allow a correct installation of the exhaust hose (see fig. 5).
  
• If you have a casement window (figure 6) proceed as follows:
• Fit the assembled air exhaust hose B4 in the relevant housing located on the rear side of the appliance, using hose adapter B5. Align the open lock symbol on the adapter B5 with the arrow on the back of the unit. Turn adapter counter clockwise until the closed lock symbol is aligned with the arrow, as shown in figure 1b. Then, apply the window outlet B2 to the air exhaust hose B4 and place it outside the window to exhaust the hot air.

OPERATING FROM THE CONTROL PANEL

TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON/OFF

Before plugging in the appliance, check the caps on back of the unit are correctly inserted on drainage hose A11 and A13.
Insert the plug in the socket.
Two dashes appear on the display indicating that the appliance is in stand-by. Touch the (C1) key to turn on the appliance. When the appliance comes on, the last function set before it was shut off is activated.
NOTE: After a few seconds of inactivity, the brightness of the control panel will be automatically reduced and in the next few minutes it will be further reduced. To turn the appliance off, touch the key.
Note: Never turn off the air conditioner by simply pulling the plug. Touch the key in order to put your air conditioner in stand-by and wait a few minutes before pulling the plug. In this manner, the appliance can perform operating status checks.

MODE SELECTION

To select the desired operating mode, touch repeatedly the MODE key until the desired function is selected.

AIR CONDITIONING MODEThis is ideal for hot and humid weather when the room needs to be both cooled and dehumidified.
To correctly set this mode:

• Touch repeatedly the MODE key until the air conditioning symbol appears. The display will show the symbol .
• To change to the desired temperature, touch the or key.
  Note: The most suitable temperatures, during the summer range from 75 to 81°F. However, setting the temperature significantly lower than the outdoor

temperature is not recommended. In conditioning mode, the air flow can be selected only from the remote control.

DEHUMIDIFYING MODE

This is ideal for reducing humidity in the room (spring and autumn, damp rooms, rainy periods, etc). For this type of use, the appliance must be set up same as in the air conditioner mode. That is, the air exhaust hose B4 must be fitted to the appliance to allow the humidity to be discharged outside. To correctly set this mode:

• Touch repeatedly the MODE key until the dehumidifying symbol appears.
• The appliance automatically chooses the best air flow.

Note

In case of high ambient humidity, it is possible to drain the condensation continuously by applying the tube supplied B13 to the upper drainage hose A13 (fig. 7) and thus allowing the water to flow into a container.

Unscrew the cap by following the directions and inserting the tube. Pay attention that water does not overflow onto the floor (fig. 8). If the connector is not in use, to avoid overflow onto the floor, remember to screw the cap back into place and the drainage hose is not obstructed.

FAN MODE

When using this mode, the air exhaust hose B4 does not need to be attached to the appliance
To correctly set this mode:

• Touch repeatedly the MODE key until the fan symbol appears.
• Select the desired air flow by touching the increase C4 or decrease C3 buttons.

The air flows available are

Minimum air flow: when maximum quiet operation is desired.
Medium air flow: when the noise level needs to be low but with a good comfort level.
Maximum air flow: for maximum performance.

HEATING MODE (on some models only)

This is ideal in spring and autumn when outdoor temperatures are not particularly severe. For this mode, the appliance should be prepared in the same way as for air conditioning, with the air exhaust hose B4 attached.
To set this mode:

• Touch repeatedly the MODE button until the heating symbol is displayed.
• Touch increase C4 or decrease C3 buttons to adjust the desired temperature.

Notes

• In this mode, the air flow is selected automatically by the appliance and cannot be set manually.
• When operating in very cold rooms, the appliance defreezes automatically, momentarily interrupting normal operation. In this case, “Lt “ appears on the display. During this operation, it is normal for the noise made by the appliance to change.
• In this mode, you may have to wait a few minutes before the appliance starts providing warm air.
• In this mode, the fan may operate for short periods, even though the set temperature has already been reached.
• If the display comes on and shows the “HL” alarm, empty the internal tray following the instructions in the Section “End of Season operations”. At the end, touch again the button to restore the heating function.

ECO REAL FEEL FUNCTION (available only from remote control)

ECO REAL FEEL is the innovative
De’Longhi technology that works simultaneously on temperature reduction and humidity control, securing the best comfort level.
With traditional systems, during working time, optimal comfort conditions may be reached but not secured over time. With ECO REAL FEEL, once optimal comfort is reached, the portable air conditioner automatically modulates the compressor and air flow, to keep it over time. To activate the function, press the Eco Real Feel button.
The ECO REAL FEELsymbol C16 appears. Please note: For this type of use, the appliance must be set up same as in the air conditioning mode. After approx. 1 minute, the
ECO REAL FEEL indicator C11 turns on. It changes color when approaching the best comfort level (see following diagram).

The well-being feeling is a subjective condition: for this reason, different people may judge differently the same environmental conditions. In particularly severe environmental
conditions (high temperature or humidity outside,
poor insulation, too many people, high heat in the room, strong exposure to the sun, etc…) this device may not be able to reach the best comfort level.

OPERATING FROM THE REMOTE CONTROL

• Remove the cover on the rear of the remote control;
• Insert or replace the batteries with two new LR03 “AAA” 1.5V batteries, inserting them correctly (see the directions inside the battery compartment);
• Replace the cover..

Please note: If the remote control unit is replaced or discarded, the batteries must be removed and disposed of in accordance with current legislation as they are harmful to the environment. Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak. If the remote control is not be used for a certain length of time, remove the batteries.

USING THE REMOTE CONTROL

• Point the remote control at the receiver A5 on the air conditioner. The remote control must be no more than 16ft/5 meters away from the appliance (without obstacles between the remote control and the receiver).
• The remote control must be handled with care. Do not drop it or expose it to direct sunlight or sources of heat.

operation is desired. Medium air flow: when the noise level needs to be low but with a good comfort level. Maximum air flow: for maximum performance.
The appliance automatically chooses the air flow based on the temperature selected and the environmental conditions (This is available only in the air conditioning mode).

ECO REAL FEEL FUNCTION

To activate this function, push button D3 on the remote control.See description of the function on page 10.

SETTING THE TIMER

How to program delayed shut down

• While the appliance is on in any operating mode, delayed shut down can be programmed.
• Press the timer button D4: the timer symbol C7 and hours C6 light up.
• Press the timer key until the desired number of hours to shut down appears on the display (1,2,4,6,8,12 hours).
  A few seconds after the timer is set, the setting is memorized and the display shows the operating mode and the timer symbol stays lit.
  Once the set time is elapsed, the air conditioner goes into standby.
  To cancel the timer program, press the timer button D4 twice. The timer symbol C7 will go off.
  Note: Once the timer has been activated, by pressing the timer key only one time, the remaining hours to shut down will be displayed.

How to program delayed start up

• Plug in the appliance and set to standby.

TIPS FOR CORRECT USE

  Close the windows and doors in the room to be air conditioned When installing the air conditioner semi-permanently, you should leave a door slightly open (as little as 1/2’’ inch. (1 cm)) to guarantee proper ventilation.

CLEANING

CLEANING THE CABINET

You should clean the appliance with a slightly damp cloth then dry with a dry cloth. For safety reasons, never wash the air conditioner with water. Precautions
Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents to clean the appliance. Never spray insecticide liquids or similar.

CLEANING THE BIO SILVER AIR FILTER (If fitted)

If the filter is dirty, air circulation is compromised and the efficiency of the appliance decreases.
It is therefore good practice to clean the filter at regular intervals. The frequency depends on the duration and conditions of operation. If the unit is used constantly or systematically, you are recommended to clean the filter once a week.
The filter is housed in the intake grille.Remove the grille to access the filter. To clean the filter, it will need to be extracted as shown in fig. 9.

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust deposited on the filter. If it is very dirty, submerge it into warm water and rinse it several times. The water temperature must be kept below 104° F (40°C). After washing the filter, allow it to dry completely before repositioning it.
The BioSilver filter helps capture dust and pollen and helps reduce the growth of bacteria and mold on the filter.

CHECKS AT THE START OF THE SEASON

Make sure the power cable and socket are in perfect condition and make sure the grounding system is sufficient. Comply strictly with the installation standards.

END OF SEASON OPERATIONS

To drain all water from the circuit, remove the cap A11 from the drainage on the back of the appliance and allow the water to drain out into a basin (fig. 10).
To facilitate this operation, at the start of the season, it’s possible to apply the water drain hose with cap B8.
In order to properly storage the appliance at the end of the season, we suggest you cover it with the supplied end of season dust cover B10 and you put the accessories in the relevant
end of season accessories bag B11.

When the appliance is empty, replace the cap.
Clean the filter and dry thoroughly before putting back. Unit should be stored in large, well ventilated area.

INTRODUCTION

The principal functions of the machine are illustrated step by step in the Quick Guide.Take a few minutes to read this Instruction for Use. This will avoid all risks and damage to the appliance. The LEDs and indicator lights on the panel will help you interact with the machine and use the various functions correctly:

SETTING UP THE APPLIANCE

•  The instructions for setting up the appliance are given in the QUICK GUIDE.
•  When using the machine for the first time, 4-5 coffees will need to be made before it starts giving satisfactory results.
•  The first time you use the machine, the water circuit is empty and the appliance could be very noisy.The noise becomes less as the circuit fills.
•  Possible traces of coffee in the mill are the result of set-tings tests performed on the appliance before sale, proof of the meticulous care and attention we invest in our products.

TURNING THE MACHINE ON AND OFF

•  Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an auto-matic preheat and rinse cycle which cannot be interrupt-ed. The appliance is not ready for use until the cycle has been completed.
•  Whenever the machine is turned off after being used to make coffee, it performs an automatic rinse cycle.
• To turn the appliance on or off, press the button. If you will not be using the appliance for some time, unplug it from the mains socket:

MAKING COFFEE BEVERAGES

•  Do not use green, caramelised or candied coffee beans as they could stick to the coffee mill and make it unusable.
•  If “Energy Saving” mode is activated, there may be a few seconds delay before the first coffee is delivered.

Making coffee using pre-ground coffee

•  Never add pre-ground coffee when the machine is off or it could spread through the inside of the machine and dirty it. This could damage the machine.
•  Never use more than one level measure as it could dirty the inside of the machine or block the funnel.
•  Making LONG coffee: halfway through prepara-tion, when the + lights come on, add one level measure of pre-ground coffee and press the Long button again.

Varying the coffee aroma

Press the button corresponding to the preferred aroma:

	Mild
	Medium
	Strong

Select the desired coffee beverage. Please note:

•  When the next coffee is made, the machine will propose the last aroma selected.
•  In the event of power failure, the machine will revert to the medium default setting.

Rinsing
Use this function to deliver hot water from the coffee spouts to clean and heat the appliance’s internal circuit. To perform the rinse cycle, just press and hold the button for about 5 seconds. Delivery stops automatically (to interrupt delivery earlier, press the same button again).

Tips for a hotter coffee
To make a hotter coffee, proceed as follows:

•  perform a rinse cycle (see paragraph “Rinsing”);
•  warm the cups by rinsing them first using the hot water function;
•  increase the coffee temperature (see section “9. Settings menu”).

Adjusting the coffee mill
The coffee mill is set by default to prepare coffee correctly and should not require regulating initially. To adjust, while the cof-fee mill is in operation, turn the dial as follows:

• If the coffee is delivered too slowly, or not at all.
• This adjustment will not take ef-fect until at least 2 cups of coffee have been delivered.
• For a fuller bodied creamier coffee
• This adjustment will not take ef-fect until at least 2 cups of coffee have been delivered.

Please note:
The grinding adjustment dial must only be turned when the coffee mill is in operation during the initial phase of coffee preparation.

Customising the quantity in the cup

1.  Press the button relative to the beverage being pro-grammed and hold for a few seconds: the programming menu is accessed when the indicator switches to fast blink. Delivery begins;
2.  Once the cup is filled to the desired level, press the bev-erage button again. Delivery ceases and the quantity is stored in the memory.

MAKING CAPPUCCINO

•  Fill a container with about 100 grams of milk for each cappuccino to be made. When choosing the size of the container, bear in mind that the milk doubles or triples in volume.
• For a richer, denser froth, use skimmed or partially skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (about 5°C). To ensure the heated milk does not end up with meagre froth or large bubbles, clean the cappuccino maker every time after use.
• The quality of the froth may vary depending on:
• the type of milk or vegetable beverage;
• the brand used;
• the ingredients and nutritional values.

MEASURING WATER HARDNESS

The descaling alarm is displayed after a period of time es-tablished according to water hardness. The machine is set by default for a hardness value of “4“. The machine can also be programmed according to the hardness of the water supply in the various regions, so that descaling is required less often.

1.  Remove the indicator paper from its packaging. If provid- ed with your model, you will find it attached to the Quick Guide.
2. Immerse the paper completely in a glass of water for about one second.
3.  Remove the strip from the water and shake lightly. After about a minute, 1, 2, 3, or 4 red squares appear, depend-ing on the hardSAness of the water. Each square corresponds to one level.

See instructions in section “9. Settings menu” to set the machine.

WATER SOFTENER FILTER

To ensure constant performance of the machine over time, we recommend using a De’Longhi water softener filter. For more information, visit the www.delonghi.com website.

1.  Remove the filter from the packaging and turn the date indicator to view the next two months;
2.  To activate the filter, run tap water through the hole in the centre of the filter until water comes out of the openings at the side for more than a minute;
3.  Extract the water tank and fill with water; insert the filter in the water tank and immerse it completely for about ten seconds, sloping it and pressing it lightly to enable the air bubbles to escape;
4.  Insert the filter in the filter housing and press as far as it will go;
5. Close the tank with the lid, then put the tank back in the machine;
6.  Place an empty container with a minimum capacity of 0.5 litres under the steam/hot water spout.
7. See instructions in section “9. Settings menu” to install the filter.
8. The appliance delivers hot water, then stops automatically;
9. The filter is now active and you can use the coffee machine.

Replacing the filter
Replace the filter when the corresponding light comes on.

1.  Extract the water tank and exhausted filter;
2. Follow the operations described in the previous section to activate the filter;
3. See instructions in section “9. Settings menu” to set the machine.

After two months (see date indicator) or when the appliance has not been used for 3 weeks, you should replace the filter even if the message has not yet been displayed.

CLEANING THE MACHINE

•  Do not use solvents, abrasive detergents or alcohol to clean the coffee machine. With De’Longhi superautomatic coffee machines, no chemical products are required for cleaning purposes.
•  Do not use metal objects to remove encrustations or coffee deposits as they could scratch metal or plastic surfaces.
• When the light comes on, the grounds container must be emptied and the machine can no longer make coffee.
•  Remove the drip tray, empty and clean.
•  Empty the grounds container and clean thoroughly to remove all residues left on the bottom.
•  Check the red condensate tray and empty if necessary.
• The appliance cannot be used to make coffee until you have cleaned the grounds container. Even if not full, the empty grounds container message is displayed 72 hours after the first coffee has been prepared. For the 72 hours to be calculated correctly, the machine must never be disconnected from the mains power supply.
• Drip tray components
• The drip tray is fitted with a level indi-cator (red) showing the level of water it contains.
  Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray, the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned
• Check periodically (about once a month) that the inside of the appliance (accessi-ble by removing the drip tray) is not dirty.
•  Remove coffee deposits with a brush or sponge;
•  Remove all residues with a vacuum cleaner

CLEANING THE INFUSER

1. Press the button to turn the machine off;
2.  Remove the water tank;
3.  Open the infuser door on the right side of the machine;
4.  Press the two coloured release buttons inwards, at the same time pulling the infuser outwards;
5. Soak the infuser in water for about 5 minutes, then rinse
6.  Do not use detergents when cleaning the infuser, as they could damage it.
7. Use the brush to remove any coffee residues left in the infuser housing, visible through the infuser door;
8. After cleaning, replace the infuser by sliding it onto the internal support, then push the PUSH symbol fully in until it clicks into place;
9. Once inserted, make sure the two coloured buttons have snapped out;
10. . Close the infuser door;
11.  Put the water tank back.

DESCALING

To complete the descaling cycle correctly, pay close atten-tion to the quantities required in the water tank for each step:

•  Before use, read the instructions and the labelling on the descaler pack.
•  Use De’Longhi descaler only. Using unsuitable descaler and/or performing descaling incorrectly may result in faults not covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee.
•  Descaler can cause damage to delicate surfaces. If the product is accidentally spilt, dry immediately.

Important:
If the water softener filter is installed, it must be re-moved before adding the descaler solution. Put the filter back in the machine after the first tank of rinsing has been completed.

The descaling procedure is described in the Quick Guide. Please note:

•  Once the descaling cycle has begun, it cannot be inter-rupted and must be completed with the entire rinse cycle.
•  After descaling, it is normal for the grounds container to contain water.
•  If the water tank has not been filled to the MAX level after descaling, the appliance prompts for a third rinse to en-sure that the descaler solution has been completely elimi-nated from the machine’s internal circuits. Before starting rinsing, remember to empty the drip tray.

EXPLANATION OF INDICATOR LIGHTS

• The beverage lights flash
• The beverage and settings lights are on steadily
• The machine is warming up: wait
• The machine is ready for use: select the desired bev-erage and relative options
• Replace the filter (see section “7. Water softener filter”)
• Insufficient water in tank: fill the tank
• The water tank is missing, or is not positioned correctly: insert the tank correctly
• General alarm: the inside of the machine is very dirty. Clean the machine thor-oughly. If the message is still displayed after cleaning, contact De’Longhi Customer Services and/or an approved Service Centre
• The infuser has not been re-placed after cleaning: insert the infuser as described in section “11. Cleaning the infuser”
• No coffee beans: fill the beans container, then press any button to reset the alarm.
• The grinding is too fine and the coffee is delivered too slowly or not at all. Adjust the coffee mill (section “4.6 Adjusting the coffee mill”)
• Too much coffee has been used. Select a milder taste or reduce the quantity of pre-ground coffee
• Preparation with pre-ground coffee has been selected without placing any pre-ground coffee in the funnel. Make sure the funnel is not blocked, then add one level measure of pre-ground coffee and repeat delivery.
• The water circuit is empty. Deliver hot water by turning the dial to the posi-tion or pressing the “Steam” button
• The grounds container needs emptying
• The grounds container is missing, or not inserted correctly: insert the drip tray complete with grounds container and press as far as it will go
• Descaling is required (“12. Descaling” and the dedi-cated section of the Quick Guide)
• Descaling has been inter-rupted. To use the machine again:
• the O position, turn it to the position; delivery will begin and descaling will resume from Fig. 14, page 10.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

SHORT CORD INSTRUCTIONS

• A short power cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
• Longer, detachable power supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
• If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is provided with 3- wire, grounding type cord, the extension should be a GROUNDING TYPE 3 – WIRE CORD. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter-top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
• Your product is equipped with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. • This machine is designed to “make espresso coffee” and “hot drinks”. Be careful to avoid scalding from the water and steam jets or by using the machine incorrectly.
• This appliance is for household use only. All other use is considered improper and consequently dangerous.
• The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by improper, incorrect or unreasonable use of the appliance.
• During operation, do not touch the hot surfaces of the appliance. Use the knobs or handles.

INSTALLATION

• After unpacking, make sure the appliance is complete and undamaged. If in doubt, do not use it. Contact professionally qualified personnel.
• Packing elements (plastic bags, polystyrene etc) must not be left within reach of children as they may represent a hazard.
• Place the appliance on a work surface far away from water taps, basins and sources of heat.
• After having positioned the appliance on the work bench, make sure that there is a free space of around 2 in. between the surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear walls and a free space of at least 8 in. above the coffee maker.
• Never install the machine in environments where the temperature may reach freezing or below freezing temperatures (the appliance could be damaged if the water freezes).
• Check that the voltage of the mains power supply corresponds to the value indicated on the appliance’s rating plate. Only connect the appliance to a power outlet with a minimum rating of 10A that is properly grounded. The manufacture is not liable for possible accidents caused by failure to do so.
• If the power outlet does not match the plug on the appliance, have the outlet replaced with a suitable type by qualified personnel.
• The power cable for this appliance must not be replaced by the user as this operation requires operation requires the use of special tools. If the cable is damaged or requires replacing, contact an authorized service center only to avoid all risks.
• The water hardness should be set as soon as possible, following the procedure described in chapter 10.4.

To correctly learn how to use the machine, when starting it for the first time, carefully follow the step-by-step instructions described in the following paragraphs.

PREPARING THE COFFEE MAKER

1. FILLING THE WATER TANK
   • Remove the water tank (Fig.1), rinse it and fill it with fresh water, never exceeding the MAX line. When removing the tank, the milk frother must always be positioned towards the center of the machine, otherwise the tank cannot be removed.
   • Replace the tank, pushing it all the way in.
   • FILLING THE CONTAINER WITH COFFEE BEANS
     • Open the lid on the coffee bean container (Fig.2).
     • Fill the container with coffee beans.
     • Close the lid.
     WARNING: To avoid malfunctions, never fill with ground coffee, freeze-dried coffee or caramelized beans, or other objects that may damage the machine.
2. USING THE COFFEE MAKER FOR THE FIRST TIME
   1. Check that the water tank is full and the power cable is plugged into the power outlet.
   2. Move the milk frother towards the outside and place a cup underneath (Fig.3). Then turn the machine on by pressing the button (Fig.4).
      
   3. IMMEDIATELY AFTER, WITHIN A MAXIMUM OF 30 SECONDS, turn the steam knob counter-clockwise until it stops (Fig.5) (it is normal for the machine to make some noise).
      
   4. After few seconds, a little water will release from the milk frother. When the cup is 1/3 full, turn the steam knob half a turn clockwise (Fig.6) to terminate the flow of water.
      
   5. Wait for the and lights to stop flashing. The flashing lights indicate the machine is preheating. Before the lights stop flashing the machine will automatically perform a rinse cycle and a little hot water will release from the coffee spouts and collect in the drip tray. Once the lights illuminate steadily, the machine has reached the ideal temperature for making coffee.
      Tip: for a hotter short coffee (less than 2 oz.); first fill the cup with the hot rinsing water. Then leave it inside for a few seconds (before emptying it) so as to pre-heat the cup.
   6. At this point, the machine is ready for use.

PREPARING COFFEE (USING COFFEE BEANS)

1. Before preparing the coffee, always make sure that the green and lights are steady and the water tank and coffee bean container are full.
2. Adjust the coffee flavor dial (Fig. 7) to set the desired taste of the coffee. Turning the knob clockwise increases the quantity of coffee beans that the machine will grind, and thus makes the taste of the coffee stronger. When using the machine for the first time, the correct position of the knob can be found by trial and error. Make sure not to turn it too far clockwise, otherwise the coffee will be delivered too slowly (in drips), in particular when preparing two cups of coffee.
   
3. Adjust the coffee quantity selector dial (Fig. 8) to set the quantity of coffee required. Turning the knob clockwise makes a longer coffee. When using the machine for the first time, the correct position of the knob can be found by trial and error.
   
4. Place one cup under the coffee spout to make 1 coffee (Fig. 9) or 2 cups for 2 coffees (Fig. 10). For a creamy coffee, lower the coffee spout to bring them as close to the cups as possible (Fig. 11).
   
5. Press the button (Fig. 12) to make one cup of coffee or the button (Fig. 13) to make 2 coffees. At this point the machine grinds the beans, runs a short pre-infusion cycle, a pause and then completes the delivery.
   Once the desired quantity has been reached, the machine automatically stops delivering the coffee and discharges the grounds into the coffee grounds container.
6. After a few seconds, when both the green and indicator lights are steady, another coffee can be made.
7. To switch the machine off, press the button. (Before switching off, the machine automatically runs a rinse cycle: a little hot water runs out of the spout and is collected in the drip tray underneath – be careful, to avoid scalds). If the machine is not switched off using the button, it will switch itself off and run a brief rinse cycle 3 hours after the last operation.

NOTE 1: If the coffee is delivered a drop at a time or not at all, turn the grinding coarseness regulator (fig. 17) one click clockwise (see section 6). Turn a click at a time until the coffee is delivered satisfactorily.

NOTE 2: If the coffee is delivered too fast and is not creamy enough, turn the coffee flavor dial (fig. 7) clockwise. Proceed by trial and error to find the correct position of the dial. Make sure not to turn the dial too far clockwise, otherwise the delivery may become too slow (in drops), in particular when making two cups of coffee. If, after several coffees, the cream is still not satisfactory, also turn the grinding coarseness regulator (Fig. 17) one click counter-clockwise (see section 6).

NOTE 3: Tips on making hotter coffee:

1. If, when the machine has just been turned on, a short cup of coffee is required (less than 2 oz), use the hot rinsing water to pre-heat the cups (see suggestion in section 4.3, point 5). If, on the other hand, more than 2-3 minutes have elapsed since the last coffee was made, before preparing another coffee the infuser must be pre-heated, pressing the button (Fig. 14).Run off the water into the underlying drip tray or alternatively use this water to fill (and then empty) the cup to be used for the coffee, so as to pre-heat it.
   
2. Unless preheated, do not use cups that are too thick, as they will absorb too much heat.
3. Use cups that have been previously heated by rinsing them with hot water or alternatively by leaving them for at least 20 minutes on the cup warmer tray on top of the machine with the appliance on.

NOTE 4: while the machine is making the coffee, the delivery can be stopped at any time by pressing the button (Fig. 12) or button (Fig. 13), as previously selected.

NOTE 5: as soon as delivery is complete, to increase the quantity of coffee, simply press and hold the button (Fig. 12) or button (Fig. 13), as previously selected, until the desired quantity is reached (this operation must be performed within 3 seconds from when coffee delivery from the spouts ceases).

NOTE 6: when the indicator light comes on (section 12, point 1), the water tank must be filled, otherwise the coffee cannot be made. The water tank can only be removed if the milk frother is first positioned towards the center of the machine. (It is normal for there to be a little water left in the tank when the indicator light comes on).

NOTE 7: the machine counts the number of cups of coffee made. Each 14 single cups (or 7 double cups), the light switches on steady (section 12 point 3), warning the user that the grounds container is full and must be emptied and cleaned. Until the grounds container has been cleaned, the light will remain on and the machine cannot deliver coffee. To clean the container, open the service door on the front (pulling the handle, Fig. 15), the light flashes (see section 12, point 9); remove the drip tray (Fig. 16), empty and clean. Empty and carefully clean the grounds container, making sure to remove all the residue that may be deposited on the bottom. Also, dry off any condensation that may have formed that may have formed inside the machine under the drip tray. IMPORTANT: when removing the drip tray, the grounds container MUST be emptied, even if it is not completely full. If this is not done, when making your next coffee, the grounds the grounds container may fill over the maximum level and block the machine.

NOTE 8: the grinder in the coffee maker may become worn over time and consequently the coffee will change taste as it is ground more coarsely. To resolve this problem, re-set the grinding coarseness by adjusting the regulator (Fig. 17) one click counter-clockwise (as described in chap. 6).

NOTE 9: if the machine is not used for a long period, the infuser must be cleaned, as described in section 10.2.

NOTE 10: while the machine is delivering coffee, never remove the water tank. If it is removed, the machine will not be able to make the coffee and the “” indicator light will flash. If you try to make another coffee, the machine becomes noisy and does not make the coffee. To reset the machine, turn the steam knob counter-clockwise as far as it will go and run off water from the milk frother for a few seconds.

When using the machine for the first time, 4-5 cups of coffee need to be made before the machine starts to give satisfying results.

If the machine malfunctions, do not contact the service center right away. The problems can almost always be resolved by following the instructions indicated in sections 12 and 13. ADJUSTING THE COFFEE GRINDER

The coffee grinder must not be adjusted, at least initially, as it has already been factory preset to deliver the correct quantities of coffee.

Nonetheless, after having made the first coffees, if delivery is too fast or too slow (in drips), the grinding coarseness regulator can be adjusted (Fig. 17). Turning one click (one number) clockwise achieves faster delivery of the coffee (without drips).

Turning one click counter-clockwise slows down delivery giving a creamier appearance to the coffee.

These adjustments will only be evident after the delivery of at least 2 cups of coffee.

The grinding coarseness regulator must only be turned when the coffee grinder is running.

Turn counter-clockwise for finer ground coffee and consequently slower delivery and a creamier appearance.

Turn clockwise for coarser ground coffee and consequently faster delivery (not a drop at a time).

NOTE 1: Coffee has been used to factory test the appliance and it is , therefore, completely normal for there to be traces of coffee in the grinder (mill). This appliance is, however, guaranteed to be new.

PREPARING ESPRESSO COFFEE WITH GROUND COFFEE (INSTEAD OF BEANS)

1. Press the button to select the ground coffee function (Fig. 18). The ground coffee light will illuminate indicating the function has been the function has been selected and the coffee grinder has been disabled.
   
2. Lift the lid in the center, place one measuring scoop of ground coffee in the funnel (see fig. 19) and proceed as described in section 5.
   Note: You can make just one coffee at a time by pressing the button.
   • NOTE 1: Never add the ground coffee when the machine is off, to prevent it from spilling inside the machine.
   • NOTE 2: Never add more than 1 measure, otherwise either the machine will not make the coffee and the pre-ground coffee will be lost inside the machine, dirtying it, or the coffee will be run off in drips.
     
   • NOTE 3: When measuring the quantity of coffee to be added, use the measuring scoop supplied only.
   • NOTE 4: Only use ground coffee for espresso espresso coffee makers. Do not use not use coffee beans, freeze-dried coffee or other materials that may damage the machine.
   • NOTE 5: If you add more than one measure of pre-ground coffee and the funnel blocks, use a plastic knife to push the coffee down (Fig. 20), then remove and clean the infuser and the machine, as described in section 10.2 “Cleaning the infuser”.
     
3. Once the coffee has been delivered, to make coffee using the beans again, deactivate the ground coffee function by pressing the button again (the light goes off and the coffee grinder is enabled for operation again).

HOT WATER DELIVERY

• Always make sure the green and  lights are on steady.
• Turn the cappuccino frother towards the outside of the machine (Fig. 3).
• Position a container underneath the milk frother (Fig. 3).
• Press the button (fig. 21). The light comes on to indicate that the function has been selected.
• Turn the steam knob half a turn in counter-clockwise until it stops (Fig. 5): hot water will come out of the milk frother and start to fill the container underneath.
• To stop the flow of hot water, turn the knob all the way clockwise (Fig. 6) and return the cappuccino frother to the original position towards the center of the machine.
• Press the button (fig. 21). (It is recommended to deliver hot water for no more than 2 minutes).
  

PREPARING CAPPUCCINOS (USING STEAM)

• Move the cappuccino frother outwards (fig. 3).
• Place an empty container under the cappuccino frother (fig. 3). Turn the steam knob a half turn counter-clockwise as far as it will go (the light flashes fig. 22). Run off the steam mixed with water for a few seconds until only steam is given off.
  
• Then interrupt steam delivery by rotating the knob clockwise as far as it will go (fig. 6).
• Empty the container and fill it with about 3.5 oz. of milk for each cappuccino to be prepared. In choosing the size of the container, bear in mind that the milk increases in volume by 2 or 3 times. You are recommended to use skim or 2% milk at refrigerator temperature (about 41°F/5°C).
• Dip the cappuccino frother into the into the container with milk (fig. 23), taking care not to immerse the raised line on the cappuccino frother (indicated by the arrow in fig. 24).Turn the steam knob a half turn counter-clockwise as far as it will go (take care to avoid scalds). Steam is discharged from the cappuccino maker, giving the milk a creamy frothy appearance. To obtain a creamier froth, dip the cappuccino frother into the milk and rotate the container with slow movements from the bottom upwards. (You should not discharge steam for more than two minutes at a time).
  
• Once the desired temperature has been reached, stop the steam by turning the steam knob clockwise until it stops (Fig. 6).
• Prepare the coffee .as described in section 5, using large enough cups, then fill with the frothed milk prepared previously. The cappuccino is ready. Sweeten to taste and if desired, sprinkle the froth with a little cocoa powder.
  NOTE 1: The cappuccino frother must always be cleaned after use. Proceed as follows:
• Release a little steam for a few seconds by turning the steam knob counter-clockwise until it stops (Fig. 5). With this operation, the steam spout discharges any milk that may be left inside. IMPORTANT: For hygiene reasons, this operation should always be performed, so as to prevent previously used milk from remaining inside the cappuccino frother.
• Turn the knob clockwise as far as it will go. With one hand, hold the cappuccino frother handle firm and with the other unscrew the cappuccino frother cover itself by rotating clockwise and extracting downwards (fig. 25).
  
• Remove the steam nozzle from the delivery spout by pulling it downwards (Fig. 26).
  
• Carefully wash the cappuccino frother and the steam nozzle in warm water.
• Check that the two holes indicated by the arrows in Fig. 27 are not clogged. If necessary, clean them using a needle or pin.
  
• Replace the steam nozzle by inserting it and vigorously turning it upwards into the steam spout.
• Replace the cappuccino frother cover by pushing it upwards and turning it counter-clockwise.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

• Before performing any cleaning operations, the machine must have cooled down and must be disconnected from the mains power supply.
• Never immerse the machine in the water: it is an electrical appliance.
• Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents to clean the coffee maker. A soft damp cloth will suffice.
• The infuser, grounds container, water tank and drip tray must NEVER be washed in the dishwasher.

CLEANING THE COFFEE MAKER

• Clean the grounds container (as described in section 5, note 7) whenever the light comes on steady (section 12 – point 3).
• The water tank should be cleaned regularly.
• The drip tray is fitted with a level indicator (red) showing the level of water inside. When the indicator starts to become visible (a few millimeters under the drip tray), the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned.
• Check that the holes in the coffee delivery spout are not blocked. To clean them, scrape the dry coffee residues with a needle (Fig. 28).
  

CLEANING THE INFUSER

The infuser must be cleaned regularly to prevent it from filling with coffee deposits (that may lead to malfunctions). To clean it, proceed as follows:

• turn the machine off by pressing the button (Fig. 4) (do not unplug it) and wait for all the indicator lights to go off;
• open the service door (Fig. 15);
• remove the drip tray and the grounds container (Fig. 16) and clean them;
• press the two red release buttons on the infuser sideways and towards the center (Fig. 29) and pull it out;
  

WARNING: THE INFUSER CAN ONLY BE REMOVED WHEN THE MACHINE IS OFF. ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE INFUSER WITH THE MACHINE ON MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE.

• wash the infuser under running water, without using detergents. Never wash the infuser in the dishwasher;
• carefully clean the inside of the machine. To remove the coffee stuck to the parts inside the machine, scrape it with a plastic or wooden fork (Fig. 30) and then pick up all the residues using a vacuum cleaner (Fig. 31);
  
• Replace the infuser by sliding it onto the supports and the pin at the bottom; then push the PUSH symbol fully in until until it clicks into place.

Check that the two red buttons have snapped out, otherwise the door cannot be closed.

NOTE 1: If the infuser is not inserted correctly, until it clicks into place, and the two red buttons have not snapped out, the service door will not close and the machine will not operate (when switching on the machine the light starts flashing (section 12 – point 9).

NOTE 2: if it is hard to insert the infuser, (before inserting it) squeeze it into size by pressing it vigorously from above and
below at the same time, as shown in Figure 32.

NOTE 3: if it is still hard to insert the infuser, leave it out of the machine, close the service door, unplug from the outlet then plug in again. Wait for all the lights to go off, then open the door and replace the infuser.

• replace the drip tray, complete with the grounds container;
• close the service door.

DESCALING

Due to the continuous heating of the water used to make the coffee, over time it is normal for the tubing inside the machine to fill with lime scale. When the light starts flashing (section 12 – point 5), it is time to descale the machine.

NOTE: when the light switches on, the coffee maker can still be used to prepare coffee. Proceed as follows:

Empty the tank and pour in the contents of one bottle (125 ml) of DURGOL descaler plus one liter of water. For subsequent descaling operations, descaling solution can be purchased from authorized technical service centers.

Note: Make sure splashes of descaler do not fall onto surfaces sensitive to acid such as marble, limestone and granite.

• place a container with a minimum capacity of 34 oz. under the cappuccino frother (Fig. 3);
• turn the machine on by pressing the button (Fig. 4).
• wait for the green and indicator lights to come on steady.
• press and hold the button for at least 5 seconds (Fig.14). The decalcification warning light will illuminate (section 11 – point 8) to indicated the start of the descaling program (the and lights remain off to indicate that it is not possible to make coffee).
• turn the steam knob half a turn counter-clockwise (Fig.5). The descaling solution will come out of the cappuccino frother and start to fill the container underneath.
• the descaling program automatically performs a series of deliveries and pauses, so as to remove the lime scale deposits from inside the coffee maker.
• after around 30 minutes, when the light comes on (section 12 – point 1), turn the steam knob half a turn clockwise (Fig.6) until it stops.

The machine must be rinsed so as to eliminate the residues of descaling solution from inside the machine. Proceed as follows:

• remove the water tank, rinse it and fill it with clean water.
• reposition the tank.
• empty the collection container (located under the milk frother) that is full of liquid, and then replace it under the milk frother.
• turn the steam knob half a turn counter-clockwise (Fig. 5). Hot water will come out of the milk frother and fill the container underneath.
• when the tank is empty, the light goes off and the light comes on (section 12 – point 1).
• turn the steam knob all the way clockwise (Fig. 6) and fill the water tank with clean water again.
• the program of descaling is now terminated and the machine is ready to make coffee again.
  NOTE: if the descaling procedure is interrupted before completion, the alarm (section 12 – point 5) is not deactivated and the procedure must be started again form the beginning.

IMPORTANT: FAILURE TO DESCALE THE APPLIANCE REGULARLY INVALIDATES THE WARRANTY.

SETTING THE WATER HARDNESS

The light (section 12 – point 5) switches on after after the machine has been operated for a factory set period of time calculated on the basis of the maximum quantity of lime scale which may be contained in the water used. If necessary, this period of operation can be extended, thus making the descaling operation less frequent, by programming the machine based on the actual lime content in the water used. Proceed as follows:

• after having removed the “Total hardness test” strip (enclosed on page 2) from its packaging, dip it fully in the water for a few seconds, then pull it out and wait around 30 seconds (until it changes color anda number of squares are formed);
• check that the machine is off (all the indicator lights are off);
• press the button (Fig. 14) and hold it for at least 5 seconds. The four lights , , and come on.
• press the button (Fig.18) repeatedly until the number of lights that are on coincides with the number of red squares on the test strip (for example, if there are 3 red squares on the test strip, press the button until 3 indicator lights come on together , and  ).
• press the button (Fig. 14) to save the data. The coffee maker is now programmed to provide the descaling warning when effectively necessary, based on the actual hardness of the water.

MEANING OF THE NORMAL OPERATION INDICATOR LIGHTS

MEANING OF THE ALARM INDICATOR LIGHTS AND WHAT TO DO WHEN THEY ARE ON

PROBLEMS THAT CAN BE RESOLVED BEFORE CALLING THE SERVICE CENTER

If the machine is not working and an alarm light is on, the causes of the malfunction can be identified and resolved by referring to section 12. If, on the other hand, no alarm light is on, run the following checks before calling the service center.

LIMITED WARRANTY

This warranty applies to all products with De’Longhi or Kenwood brand names.

FAQS

What does the warranty cover?
We warrant each appliance to be free from defects in material and workmanship. Our obligation under this warranty is limited to repair at our factory or authorized service center of any defective parts or part thereof, other than parts damaged in transit. In the event of a products replacement or return, the unit must be returned transportation prepaid. The repaired or new model will be returned at the company expense.
This warranty shall apply only if the appliance is used in accordance with the factory directions, which accompany it, and on an Alternating current ( AC ) circuit.

How long does the coverage last?
This warranty runs for two years (2) from the purchase date found on your receipt and applies only to the original purchaser for use.

What is not covered by the warranty?

Does it tamp automatically?

Yes. Grind, tamp and extract all happen with the push of a button. Whole beans go in the top, little biscuits of compressed, spent grounds are emptied from the bottom. The espresso produced is VERY consistent in volume, strength and flavor – suggesting very consistent preparation by the machine.

Yes, the machine comes with a guide to making just about any espresso based drink you can think of. Very consistent quality!!! Very simple!!! All our friends have been amazed at their drinks prepared at home for a fraction of the cost of a coffee shop!

Would you recommend this to someone who only enjoys long coffee (like drip) or cappuccinos, not espresso?

No of course not! This is not a coffee maker. It will not make a hot cup of coffee to be enjoyed over a long period of time. It will be cold very quickly unless you put it in a special thermal cup. Why would people answer this question to the contrary is beyond me. You will be disappointed if you are buying this make 16oz of coffee.

what breaks?

after a few years, we had a rust issue and an internal part had to be replaced. Cost $200. Then the machine was fine for 2 more years. We have a 2nd one now.

Will power off after a few seconds of plugging in. Is control board bad?

There is a timer in the unit, and if left on unattended for a long period of time, it will power off. Perhaps your timer needs to reset.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

When using any electrical appliance, some basic safety precautions should always be observed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons. Specifically:

9. To completely turn off the appliance, push the ON/OFF button (A), and then unplug the heater.
10. Do not wrap the cord around the appliance immediately after use.
11. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to get into the air intake or air outlet grille, as this may cause electric shock or fire, or damage the appliance.
12. To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intake or air outlet grille in any way. Do not use the appliance on soft surfaces, such as beds, where the openings may become blocked.
13. Do not cover the appliance while it is functioning in order to avoid overheating and the risk of fire.
14. The internal parts of the appliance can become very hot or produce sparks during operation. Do not use the appliance in areas where gasoline, paints, or other flammable liquids are used or stored.
15. Use this appliance only as described in this manual. Any other use not indicated by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
16. To prevent current overload and blown fuses, make sure that no other appliance is plugged into the same outlet or into another outlet wired into the same circuit.
17. It is normal for heater’s plug and cord to feel warm to the touch. However, an excessively hot or deformed plug or cord is not normal and may be the result of a defective electrical outlet. Defective outlets must be replaced before using the heater. Plugging the heater into a worn outlet may result in overheating of the power cord or may cause the risk of fire.
18. If the supply cord is damaged, to reduce the risk of malfunction it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a licensed and qualified professional.
19. Do not use this appliance with an extension cord or outlet strip. Connect the appliance directly to a suitable outlet.
20. Make sure that the plug is fully inserted into the outlet. Wall outlets may deteriorate with time, so check the plug periodically for signs of overheating or deformation. If the outlet has deteriorated, stop using it and have it repaired.
21. Check that neither the appliance nor the power cord have been damaged during shipping.
22. Make sure that no styrofoam or other packing materials remain in the appliance.
23. The first time the appliance is used, run it at the maximum power for at least two hours. During this time, ventilate the room thoroughly to eliminate the “new” smell released by the appliance. It is completely normal for the appliance to emit “creaking” sounds the first time it is run.
24. CAUTION: To prevent electric shock, make sure the wide prong of the plug is inserted in the wide slot of the outlet.
25. Do not place the heater near a bed because objects such as pillows or blankets can fall off the bed and be ignited by the heater.
26. Extreme caution is necessary whenever the heater is left operating unattended.
27. Do not open the appliance. No user-serviceable parts inside.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

Before connecting the plug to the power outlet, make sure that the voltage of your electrical system corresponds to the voltage shown on the appliance rating label and the outlet you are going to use is in good condition.

INSTALLATION

The appliance may be used on any rigid horizontal surface. Do not overload the electrical circuit; avoid using the same outlet for multiple appliances.

OPERATION AND USE

1. Connect the appliance to the power outlet.
2. The appliance emits a beep and the power indicator light (H) comes on and remains on as long as the appliance is powered.
3. The appliance goes into OFF. If the display show a blinking dot, it means that the tip over switch has been activated. See paragraph: “Additional safety features” page 6.
4. Press the ON/OFF button (A) to turn on the appliance. It will begin to heat with the predefined settings.
5. Press the MODE button (F) to select one of the following functions available:
   Ventilation ( ) → Anti-freeze ( ) Heating at minimum power (1) Heating at maximum power/BOOST function (2)
   5.1 Ventilation ( )
   In this operating mode only the fan operates, so the appliance does not heat the room.
   5.2 Anti-freeze ( )
   In this operating mode the appliance keeps the room at a temperature of 45°F (7°C) to prevent freezing temperatures.
   5.3 Heating 1 and Heating 2
   In this operating mode you can set the desired temperature by pressing the + and – adjustment buttons (B).
   Heating 1 (minimum power level):
   The appliance operates at the minimum power reducing energy consumption to the minimum.
   Heating 2/BOOST function (maximum power level):
   The appliance operates at the maximum power for rapid heating of the room.
6. Eco function
   In this operating mode the appliance will automatically set the power level to guarantee the best comfort reducing the energy consumption. In this operating mode the unit may switch the heating power level from maximum to minimum and vice-versa, several times in an hour. When using the ECO function, the maximum temperature setting is 79°F (26°C). To activate this function, press the ECO button (D).
7. If you want the appliance to distribute the airflow over a larger area, press the oscillation button (C) ( ). The appliance will then oscillate right and left. To stop the oscillation in the desired position, just press oscillation button (C) again.
8. To turn off the appliance press button ON/OFF (A). The display will show a count down for about 6 seconds.

NOTE: The display can show the temperature in both °F and °C. To change the temperature scale, press and hold the + key for few seconds, then release.

Please be informed that as this is not a precision device, the showed temperature not necessary corresponds to the real one.

24-HOUR DIGITAL TIMER

This function can be activated from any operating mode.

Delayed switch-on: with the appliance in the OFF position, press the timer button (E) ( ).

The display shows the symbol and the time remaining before switch-on. To set the timer, use the + and – adjustment buttons (B), then wait a few seconds for the programming to be set.

The display shows the symbol to indicate you have set the timer. When the programmed time has been reached, the appliance turns on with the same settings it had during the previous operation.

Delayed shut-off: With the appliance on, press the timer button (E) ( ). The display shows the symbol and the time remaining before shut-off. To set the timer, use the + and – adjustment buttons (B), then wait a few seconds for the programming to be set. The display returns to show the current settings and the symbol to indicate you have set the timer. When the programmed time as been reached the appliance shuts off automatically.

If you want to go back to operation without the timer, press the timer button (F) twice. The timer symbol disappears from the display.

USING THE REMOTE CONTROL

• The remote control functions correspond to those on the control panel. See the section “Operation and Use” on the previous page for a description of the functions.

Inserting or replacing the batteries

• Remove the cover on the rear of the remote control;
• Insert two AAA (R03/1.5V) batteries (included but packaged separately) making sure they are in the correct position (see the instructions inside the battery compartment);
• Do not mix old and new batteries;
• Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbonzinc), or rechargeable (ni-cad, ni-mh, etc) batteries;
• Replace the cover;
• Old batteries must be removed and disposed of in accordance with current legislation as they are harmful to the environment.

MAINTENANCE

• Before carrying out any maintenance, always remove the plug from the power outlet.
• During the season when the appliance is being used, regularly clean the air intake and outlet grilles using a vacuum cleaner.
• Never use abrasive powders or solvents to clean the appliance.
• Remove the back grille by pulling it outward (Fig. 1).
• Remove the dust filter that filters impurities from the air taken in from the room, blow it lightly, then reposition it in the appliance.

WARNINGS

• Never use this heating appliance in the immediate vicinity of a bathtub, shower, or swimming pool.
• Use the appliance always and only in the vertical position.
• Do not use the appliance to dry laundry, and do not obstruct the air intake and outlet grilles (danger of overheating).
• Do not operate the appliance in contact with walls, furniture, curtains, etc.
• If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, the authorized service facility, or a qualified electrician, in order to prevent the risk of malfunction.
• Do not cover the appliance while it is operating, as this could potentially cause a fire.
• Do not use this appliance in a room smaller than 43 square feet (4 m²).
• Heaters should never be used with an extension cord or outlet strip. Heaters should be plugged directly into an outlet.
• Before storing the appliance, check it is completely off and the cable is unplugged. At this point wrap the cord around the base. Do not store in a dusty room. The room temperature should be between 32- 86°F (0-30°C). Do not load anything above it.
• Heaters draw more current than small appliances, overheating of the outlet may occur even if it has not occured with the use of other appliances.

Additional safety features

1. Overheating protection: a safety device switches the heater off if it accidentally overheats (e.g.: air intake and outlet grilles obstructed, filter clogged). In this case remove the plug from the power outlet and leave it unplugged for a few minutes, eliminate the cause of overheating, then plug the fan heater back and turn it on again.
2. Tip over safety switch: a safety tip-over switch turns the heater off if it tips over or is positioned in an improper way that could jeopardize safety. The appliance emits a beep and the display will show a blinking dot. After the appliance has been restored in the vertical position it will take just few seconds to start on again.

Note: To avoid overheating the appliance, do not cover it.

TROUBLE-SHOOTING

In case “PF” is displayed and a warning sound is emitted, there is a fault on the temperature sensor. If the problem persists contact the Service Center.

If the appliance shuts off unexpectedly:

• Check that the appliance is receiving power.
• Check that the appliance is in the vertical position and on a flat surface, as the safety tip-over switch may have been tripped.
• Check the temperature set and the timer: the appliance may be off because the set temperature has been reached or the time set on the timer has elapsed.

NOTE: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. lf this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Designated Use
This appliance must be used exclusively for the intended purpose for which it was designed, specifically to dehumidify domestic environments. Installing the Appliance

• The appliance must be installed in compliance with national standards regulating electrical systems.
• Do not install the appliance in rooms containing gas, oil or sulphur or near sources of heat.
• Do not use the appliance on sloping surfaces.
• Keep the appliance at least 50 cm away from flammable substances (alcohol, etc.) or pressurised containers (e.g. aerosol cans).

• When transporting, the appliance must be kept upright or
• Resting on one side. Before transporting, drain all the water from the appliance. After transporting, wait at least one hour before turning on the appliance.

Environmental Information

• The materials used for packaging can be recycled. You are therefore recommended to dispose of them in special differentiated waste collection containers.

Specific information regarding appliances with R290 refrigerant gas 

• Thoroughly read all of the warnings.
• When defrosting and cleaning the appliance, do not use any tools other than those recommended by the manufacturing company.
• The appliance must be placed in an area without any continuous sources of ignition (for example: open flames, gas or electrical appliances in operation).
• Do not puncture and do not burn.
• Refrigerant gases can be odourless.
• The appliance must be installed, used and stored in an area that is greater than 4 m2.
• This appliance contains R290 refrigerant gas. (For more details on the refrigerant, see back cover).
• R290 is a refrigerant gas that complies with the European directives on the environment. Do not puncture any part of the refrigerant circuit.

BEFORE USE

Important!

Checking the appliance
After removing the packaging, make sure the product is complete and undamaged and that all accessories are present. Do not use the appliance if it is visibly damaged. Contact DeLonghi Customer Services.
Connecting the appliance
Before plugging the appliance into the outlet, check that:

• The mains voltage corresponds to the operating voltage stated on the rating plate.
• The mains socket and the electrical supply line are adequate for the required load.
• The power outlet matches the plug. If this is not the case, have the plug replaced by a qualified electrician
• The outlet is properly grounded.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Always remove the plug from the power socket before performing any cleaning or maintenance operations. For safety reasons, never wash the dehumidifier using a water jet. Clean the air filter regularly.

DISPOSAL

The appliance must not be disposed of with household waste, but taken to an authorised waste separation and recycling centre. Read the separate safety instructions before using the appliance.

This appliance can also be used with the “DeLonghi Comfort APP” that is available on Google Play or can be downloaded from the App Store®. To gain access to all functions, a Wi-Fi local network (Home WLAN) with Internet access is required. Moreover, check that there are no impediments to Internet access: Firewall, Proxy, authentications, etc.

DRAINING THE CONDENSATE WATER

The condensate can be drained in 2 ways:

Draining Into The Tank
The condensate is drained directly into the tank (A6). When the tank is full, the appliance stops and the display (C)
shows the tank alarm (C1). Proceed as follows:

1. Remove the tank (fig. 1) and empty it into a sink or bathtub.
2. Replace the tank in its housing, making sure the handle is properly positioned (fig. 2).

Continuous External Draining
If the appliance is used for long periods of time without the possibility to regularly empty the tank, the continuous drain function should be used. Proceed as follows:

1. Remove the continuous drain cap (A11) from the spout, turning it in an anti-clockwise direction, then remove the continuous drain rubber stopper (A10) from the opening (fig. 3) (Watch out for any leaking water!)
2. Attach the condensate drain hose (A12) to the spout (fig. 4).
3. Make sure the hose is positioned below the spout (fig. 5) or the water will flow back into the tank of the appliance. Also make sure there are no kinks in the hose.

MODE SELECTION

Connect the appliance to the mains supply. Upon first use, the symbol will appear on the display and at the same time, an acoustic signal will sound to indicate that the appliance is in stand-by mode.

1. To turn the appliance on, touch the button (B1). The appliance will operate in the previously set mode and the air outlet louver (A1) will open in a preset position (fig. 6).
2. If there is a blackout, when the power is restored the appliance will resume operation in the previously set operating mode.

Please Note:
If the symbol (C1) appears on the display, the tank (A6) needs to be emptied or properly positioned (see paragraph “3.1 Draining into the tank”).

Air filtration
If the EPA filter (A7) is installed, in addition to operating in the preset mode, the appliance will also filter the air in the room. In this case, the symbol (C2) will appear on the display. The filter is designed to last up to 9 months, based on 8-hour daily usage at medium working load. To maintain the efficiency of filtration, see paragraph “5.3 Replacing the EPA filter”.

Dehumidifying Mode

1. Touch the button (B3). The symbol (C9) will blink on the display (fig. 7).
2. The display shows the previously set relative humidity value. When the symbol blinks, the setting can be changed by repeatedly touching the button. There are 9 different relative humidity settings ranging from 30% (dry environment) to 70% (humid environment). Depending on the environmental conditions, it may not be possible for the appliance to reach the minimum settable value. In these cases, it is recommended the heat the environment that needs to be dehumidified.
3. When the symbol stops blinking, the display shows the percentage of relative humidity in the room. The appliance may take a few seconds to display the value of the relative humidity in the room.
4. When the room reaches the preset relative humidity level, the appliance stops dehumidifying and operates at a very slow ventilation speed.

Dry mode

1. Touch the button (B6). The display shows the symbol (C7) (fig. 8).

Please Note:
The appliance automatically operates at the maximum dehumidifying capacity. Recommended for particularly humid environments or to dry laundry more quickly.

Ventilation Mode

1. Touch the button (B2). The display shows the symbol (C3) and the selected speed (fig. 9).
2. When the symbol blinks, the ventilation speed can be adjusted by repeatedly pressing the button. the display shows the number corresponding to the selected speed (1 LOW; 2 MED; 3 HIGH).

Swing Function

1. Press the button (B5) The air outlet louver (A1) moves up and down, evenly distributing the air flow in the room (fig. 10).
2. To stop the louver in the desired position, touch the same button again.

Timer Function

The timer can be used to delay appliance start-up and shut- down. This will avoid energy wastage, ensuring the appliance operates only when needed. The timer function can be programmed from either the control panel or the app.

• If programmed from the control panel: the display shows the symbol (C12) (fig. 11).
• If programmed from the app: the display shows the symbol (C11) (fig. 12). To programme the timer from the app, follow the instructions provided in the app.

How to programme delayed start-up

1. With the appliance in stand-by( ),touch the button (B7): the display will show the symbol and the number relative to the selected hours (fig.11)
2. Set the desired number of hours by repeatedly touching the button.1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 hours can be selected.
3. After a few seconds, the appliance will return to stand-by mode and the symbol will remain lit on the display.
4. After the programmed time, the appliance will turn on in the previously set operating mode.

How to programme delayed shut-down

1. While the appliance is running, touch the button (B7): the display shows the symbol and the relative number of selected hours (fig. 11)
2. Set the desired number of hours by repeatedly touching the button. 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 hours can be selected.
3. After a few seconds, the display returns to the current operating mode and the symbol remains lit.
4. After the programmed time, the appliance will automatically turn off.

Please Note:

• Once the timer has been programmed, to see the remaining time until start-up or shut-down, touch the button once.
• To deactivate the timer function, press the button twice. The symbol on the display will turn off

Wi-Fi Function

The appliance has a built-in Wi-Fi function. To activate or deactivate this function, hold the button (B4) pressed until the appliance emits two beeps. When the Wi-Fi function is active, the display will show the Wi-Fi symbol (C5) with the following operating modes:

FIXED
This means the Wi-Fi functions are active and the “Home WLAN” has been found.

 SLOW FLASHING
This means the appliance is searching for the “Home WLAN”

FAST FLASHING

This means the “Home WLAN” has not been found or has not been set.

“APP CONTROL” ICON
When the APP CONTROL icon appears this the last command was received via Remote connection (e.g. APP). If the saved “Home WLAN” setting needs to be changed, proceed as follows:

1. Hold the button pressed for about 20 seconds until a long beep is heard;
2. Use the app to set the new “Home WLAN” settings in the unit.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

• Always disconnect the appliance from the mains before carrying out cleaning operations (fig. 13).
• Never submerge the appliance in water.

Cleaning the Cabinet

• Never pour water directly over the appliance (fig. 14).
• Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents.
• Never spray insecticides or similar substances as these may deform the plastic.
• Clean the surfaces of the appliance using a soft cloth and do not use abrasive sponges as these may scratch the surfaces themselves (fig. 15).

Cleaning the dust or silver ion filter
The frequency of cleaning will depend on the frequency of use: if used daily, it is recommended to clean the filter every week.

• Remove the filter housing cover (A9) from the appliance (fig. 16). · Extract the dust filter (fig. 17).
• Remove any dust from the filter using a vacuum cleaner (fig. 18).
• If the dust filter is very dirty, rinse it well with warm water. The water temperature must not exceed 40° C.
• Leave it to dry completely, then put it back into place.

Replacing the EPA filter
The appliance will automatically remind you when the EPA filter (A7) needs to be replaced . After a preset number of operating hours, the display shows the blinking symbol (C2) to indicate that the filter needs to be replaced. Always use original DeLonghi filters.

• Remove the filter housing cover (A9) (fig. 16).
• Extract the used filter (fig. 19) and replace it with a new one.
• Close the filter housing cover (with the dust filter (A8) inserted).
• Reset the filter alarm by holding the button (B2) pressed for at least 10 seconds until you hear a long beep.

Please Note:
The symbol is intended only as a guide and it may be necessary to replace the EPA filter more frequently, depending on the air quality.

For long periods of Downtime

• Disconnect the appliance from the mains and empty the tank (A6).
• Clean the dust filter (A8) and re-insert it.
• Cover the appliance with a plastic bag to protect it from dust.

Safety functions

Safety device: the appliance is fitted with a safety device which switches it off in the event of accidental overheating (e.g. obstruction of air intake and outlet grilles, motor turning slowly or not at all).
To reset, unplug the appliance from the mains socket for a few minutes, remove the cause of overheating then plug in again. If the appliance doesn’t work please contact the De’Longhi Customer Service.
Tip over safety device: a tip over safety device turns the appliance off if it falls over or is positioned inappropriately in such a way as to jeopardise safety.
The appliance emits a beep and a dot flashes on the display. The appliance resumes operation a few seconds after being placed in an upright position again.

USE

Installation

The appliance can be used on any horizontal surface. Do not overload the electrical circuit. Avoid using the same socket for other appliances.

Electrical connection: 

• Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket, check that the mains power supply corresponds to the value indicated on the rating plate and that the mains power supply is adequate for the load.
• THIS APPLIANCE COMPLIES WITH DIRECTIVE 2004/108/ EEC ON RADIO INTERFERENCE SUPPRESSION.

Operation and use

• Connect the appliance to the power outlet.
• The appliance emits a beep and the power indicator light (G) also comes on and remains lit while power to the appliance is on. The appliance goes into STAND-BY.
• Press the ON/STAND-BY button (A) to turn on the appliance.
• It will begin to heat with the predefined settings.
•  Press the MODE button (F) to select one of the following functions available:
•  Ventilation: In this operating mode only the fan operates, so the appliance does not heat the room.
• lAnti-freeze: In this operating mode the appliance keeps the room at a temperature of 7°C to prevent freezing temperatures
• Heating 1 and Heating 2:  In this operating mode you can set the desired temperature by pressing the + and – adjustment buttons (B).
• Heating 1 (minimum power level): The appliance operates at the minimum power, reducing noise and energy consumption to the minimum.
• Heating 2 (maximum power level): The appliance operates at the maximum power for rapid heating of the room.
• To turn off the appliance press button ON/STAND-BY (A). The display could show the count down for about 6 seconds. To completely turn off the appliance, remove the plug from the socket.

Please note:  The display can show the temperature in both °C and °F. To change the temperature scale, press and hold the + key for few seconds, then release.

ECO PLUS function: In this operating mode the appliance will automatically set the power level to guarantee the best comfort reducing the energy consumption. The maximum temperature setting is 26 °C. To activate thisfunction, press the ECO PLUS button (D).

Oscillation button: If you want the appliance to distribute the airflow over a larger area, press the oscillation button (C) . The appliance will then oscillate right and left. To stop the oscillation in the desired position, just press oscillation button (C) again.

24-HOUR DIGITAL TIMER: This function can be activated from any operating mode.

Delayed switch-on: with the appliance in the STAND-BY position, press the timer button (E) . The display shows the symbol and the time remaining before switch-on. To set the timer, use the + and – adjustment buttons (B), then wait a few seconds for the programming to be set. The display returns to show for stand-by and the symbol to indicate you have set the timer. When the programmed time has been reached, the appliance turns on with the same settings it had during the previous operation.
Delayed shut-off: With the appliance on, press the timer button (E) . The display shows the symbol and the time remaining before shut-off. To set the timer, use the + and – adjustment buttons (B), then wait a few seconds for the programming to be set. The display returns to show the current settings and the symbol to indicate you have set the timer. When the programmed time as been reached the appliance shuts off automatically. If you want to go back to operation without the timer, press the  timer button (E) twice. The timer symbol disappears from the display

Using the remote control (certain models only): The remote control functions correspond to those on the control panel. See the section “Operation and Use” on the previous page for a description of the functions.

Inserting or replacing the batteries

•   The remote control is provided with a lithium battery CR2032.
•  To let the appliance function, remove the battery cover strip, by pulling it.
• To replace the batteries, remove the battery cover by rotating it. Replace the battery paying attention to respect the right polarity as shown in figure 1.
• Replace the cover rotating it towards the position .
• Old batteries must be removed and disposed off in accordance with current legislation as they are harmful to the environment.

Important! 

WARNING:

• KEEP BATTERIES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
• Swallowing may lead to serious injury in as little as 2 hours or death, due to chemical burns and potential perforation of the oesophagus.
• Examine devices and make sure the battery compartment is correctly secured. Do not use if compartment is not secure.
• Dispose of used button batteries immediately and safely. Flat batteries can still be dangerous.

MAINTENANCE

• Before carrying out any maintenance, always unplug from the mains socket.
• During the season when the appliance is in use, clean the air intake and outlet grilles regularly using a vacuum cleaner.
• Never use abrasive powders or solvents to clean the appliance.
• The dust filter which retains impurities in the air, It is integrated in the removable back cover. To clean the filter, remove the grille by pulling outward. Blow it lightly, then replace it into the appliance.

INSTALLING THE APPLIANCE

Important!
When you install the appliance, you should respect the following safety warnings:

• Water penetrating the appliance could cause damage. Do not place the appliance near taps or sinks.
• The appliance could be damaged if the water it contains freezes.
• Do not install the appliance in a room where the temperature could drop below freezing point.
• Arrange the power cable in such a way that it cannot be damaged by sharp edges or contact with hot surfaces (e.g. electric hot plates).
• The appliance gives off heat. After positioning the applian-ce on the worktop, leave a space of at least 3 cm between the surfaces of the appliance and the side and rear walls and at least 15 cm above the coffee maker.

Connecting the appliance
Danger!
Check that the mains power supply voltage corresponds to that indicated on the rating plate on the bottom of the appliance. Connect the appliance to an efficiently earthed and correctly installed socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only. If the power socket does not match the plug on the appliance,

1. Extract the tank by pulling it upwards (fig. 1).
2. Open the lid and fill the tank with fresh clean water, taking care not to exceed the MAX level (fig. 2).
   Put the tank back in the appliance, pressing lightly to open the valves located on the bottom of the tank.
3. More simply, the tank can also be filled without extracting it by pouring the water directly from a jug.
   Important:
   Never operate the appliance without water in the tank or without the tank.
   Please note:
   It is normal for there to be water in the space under the tank. This should therefore be dried regularly with a clean sponge.

SETTING UP THE APPLIANCE

• Turn the appliance on by pressing the ON/OFF switch (fig. 3). The appliance performs a self-diagnosis cycle, indicated by sequential flashing of the three buttons.
• The and lights flash to indicate the appliance is heating up.
  When the lights stop flashing and remain on steadily, the appliance is ready for use.
• Place a container with a minimum capacity of 100 ml under the hot water/steam spout (fig. 4).
• Turn the hot water/steam dial to the   osition (fig. 5) and deliver about 100 ml of water, then close the dial again (○ symbol).

PROGRAMMING THE SETTINGS MENU

To access the menu, make sure the appliance is ready for use, then press and hold the button for 10 seconds until the three buttons flash in sequence:
The appliance is now in programming mode.
Set the coffee maker as you wish, then exit the settings menu by waiting for 15 seconds. Please note:
If no selections are made for 15 seconds, the appliance automatically exits programming and is ready for use again.

Setting coffee temperature
To modify the temperature of the water used to make the coffee, proceed as follows:

1. Access the settings menu;
2. Press the button to enter the coffee temperature selection mode.
   The lights corresponding to the current selection come on:
3. The lights start flashing in sequence;
4. Press the button corresponding to the required temperature:
5. The button flashes to indicate that the selection has been saved.
   The appliance exits the menu and is ready for use.

Setting water hardness
The light (V2) indicating that the appliance needs descaling comes on after a period of operation established according to water hardness.
The appliance can also be programmed according to the hardness of the mains water in the various regions so that de-scaling needs to be performed more or less frequently. Proceed as follows:

1. Access the settings menu;
2. Press the button to enter the water hardness selection mode. The lights corresponding to the current selection come on:

4. Press the button corresponding to the water hardness in your area:

The button flashes to indicate that the selection has been saved.
The appliance exits the menu and is ready for use.

Adjusting auto-off (stand-by)
To save energy, an auto-off function turns the appliance off when not used for a long period.
To turn it back on again, press any button on the control panel.

1. Access the settings menu;
2. Press the button to enter the auto-off time selection mode. The lights corresponding to the current selection come on:

4. Press the button corresponding to the required time:
5. The button flashes to indicate that the selection has been saved.
   The appliance exits the menu and is ready for use.

Default values (reset)
This resets all menu settings and programmed quantities back to the default values.
To reset the default values, proceed as follows:

1. Access the settings menu;
2. Turn the steam dial to the position;
3. Press the button. The three lights flash simultaneously to confirm that the original settings have been restored.
4. The and lights flash to indicate that the steam dial must be closed again (○symbol).
   When the steam dial has been closed, the appliance is ready for use.

HOW TO MAKE ESPRESSO COFFEE

• Attach the filter holder to the appliance with the filter in place but without adding coffee.
  Using the same cup as will later be used to make the coffee, press the 1 cup button and deliver hot water into the cup to heat it.
• Raise the coffee temperature in the settings menu.
• Rest the cups you will be using on the cup warmer (D) which becomes hot during operation.

How to make espresso coffee using pre-ground coffee

1. Place the ground coffee filter (P or Q) in the filter holder (fig. 6). To make one coffee, use the filter with the symbol on the bottom, to make two coffees, use the filter with the symbol on the bottom.
2. To make just one coffee, place one level measure of pre-ground coffee (about 7 g) in the filter (fig. 7).
   To make two coffees, place two loosely filled measures (about 7+7 g) of pre-ground coffee in the filter. Fill the filter a little at a time to prevent the pre-ground coffee from overflowing.
   Important: For correct operation, before filling with pre-ground coffee, make sure there are no coffee residues left in the filter from the last time you made coffee.
3. Distribute the pre-ground coffee evenly and press lightly with the presser (fig. 8). Correct pressing of the pre-ground coffee is essential to obtain a good espresso. If you press too firmly, the coffee will be delivered slowly and will be strong. If you press too lightly, the coffee will be delivered quickly and will be weak.
4. Remove any excess coffee from the rim of the filter holder and attach the filter holder to the appliance. To attach correctly, align the filter holder handle with the INSERT symbol (fig. 9), attach the filter holder and rotate the han-dle towards the right until aligned with the CLOSE symbol.
5. Place the cup or cups under the filter holder spouts (fig. 10). You are recommended to warm the cups before making coffee by rinsing them with a little hot water.
6. Make sure the lights corresponding to the coffee buttons are on, then press the or coffee button. The appliance proceeds to make the coffee and delivery is interrupted automatically.

How to make espresso coffee using pods

Please note:
use pods conforming to the ESE standard, indicated on the pack by the following symbol.
Place the filter for coffee pods (with the symbol on the bottom) in the filter holder.
Insert the pod, centring it as far as possible on the filter (fig. 11). Always follow the instructions on the pod pack to position the pod on the filter correctly.

Please note:

• While the appliance is making coffee, delivery can be interrupted at any moment by pressing the coffee button pressed previously.
• At the end of delivery (within 3 seconds), to increase the amount of coffee in the cup, press and hold the coffee but-ton pressed previously. Delivery is automatically interrupted after a few seconds.
• To remove the filter holder, turn the handle from right to left.

The danger of burns!
To avoid splashes, never remove the filter holder while the appliance is delivering coffee. Always wait for a few seconds after delivery.
Programming the quantities of coffee in the cup The appliance is set by default to automatically deliver standard quantities.
To change these quantities, proceed as follows:

1. Place one or two cups under the filter holder spouts.
2. Press and hold the button you want to programme or  The appliance starts delivering coffee and the other coffee button flashes to indicate that programming is underway.
3. Once the required quantity of coffee has been delivered into the cup, release the button. Delivery stops and the light flashes to indicate that the quantity has been saved correctly.
4. When the two coffee lights come on steadily, the appliance is ready for use.

HOW TO MAKE CAPPUCCINO

1. Prepare the espresso coffees as described in the previous paragraphs, using sufficiently large cups.
2. Press the button (fig. 12). The light flashes;
3. In the meantime, fill a recipient with about 100 g of milk for each cappuccino to be prepared.
   The milk must be at refrigerator temperature (not hot!).
   In choosing the size of the recipient, bear in mind that the milk doubles or triples in volume (fig. 13).
   Please note:
   You are recommended to use semi-skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature.
4. Wait for the light corresponding to the button to come on steadily, indicating that the boiler has reached the ideal temperature to produce steam.
5. Position an empty container under the cappuccino maker and open the dial for a few seconds to eliminate any air left in the circuit. Close the dial again.
6. Place the recipient containing the milk under the cappuccino maker.
7. Dip the cappuccino maker in the milk for a few millimeters (fig. 14).
   Turn the dial to the position. Steam is delivered from the cappuccino maker, giving the milk a creamy frothy appearance. To obtain a creamier froth, immerse the cappuccino maker in the milk and rotate the container with slow upward movements.
8. When the milk has doubled in volume, immerse the cappuccino maker deeply and continue heating the milk (fig. 15). When the required temperature (the ideal is 60°C) and froth density is reached, interrupt steam delivery by turning the steam dial clockwise.
9. Pour the frothed milk into the cups containing the espresso coffee prepared previously.
   The cappuccino is ready. Sweeten to taste and if desired, sprinkle the froth with a little cocoa powder.
   Please note:
   • to prepare more than one cappuccino, first make all the coffees then at the end prepare the frothed milk for all the cappuccinos.
   • to exit the steam function, press any button. The lights flash to indicate that the temperature is too high to make coffee (see section “Cooling the boiler”).
     You should not deliver steam for more than 60 seconds.

Important:
For hygiene reasons, the cappuccino maker should always be cleaned after use.
Proceed as follows:

1. Turn the steam dial to deliver a little steam for a few secon-ds (points 2, 4 and 5 of the previous section).
   This causes the cappuccino maker to deliver any milk left in its circuits. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the appliance off.
2. With one hand, hold the cappuccino maker tube firmly, with the other, release the cappuccino maker by turning it clockwise, then pull off downwards (fig. 16).
3. Remove the rubber steam connection nozzle from the spout by pulling it downwards (fig. 17).
4. Wash the cappuccino maker and steam connection nozzle thoroughly with warm water (fig. 18).
5. Check the hole shown by the arrow in fig. 18 is not blocked.
6. Put the steam connection nozzle back, pressing upwards to insert it onto the steam tube.
7. Replace the cappuccino maker by pushing upwards and turning anticlockwise.

Cooling the boiler
To make coffee again immediately after frothing milk, the boiler must first be cooled or the coffee will be burnt.
Proceed as follows:

•  place a container under the cappuccino maker;
• open the steam dial to deliver hot water and cool the boiler;
• hot water delivery is interrupted automatically when the boiler is cool. When the pump stops operating and no more water is delivered, close the steam dial.

HOT WATER

1. Turn the appliance on by pressing the ON/OFF button (fig. 4). Wait for the coffee lights to come on steadily.
2. Place a recipient under the cappuccino maker.
3. Turn the dial to the position. Hot water is delivered from the cappuccino maker.
4. To stop hot water delivery, close the dial and press any button.
   You should not deliver hot water for more than 60 seconds.

CLEANING

Danger!
Before cleaning the outside of the appliance, turn it off, unplug from the mains socket and allow to cool.

Cleaning the drip tray
Important!
The drip tray is fitted with a level indicator (red) showing the level of water it contains (fig. 19).
Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray, the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned, otherwise, the water may overflow the edge and damage the appliance, the surface it rests on or the surrounding area.

1. Remove the drip tray (fig. 20).
2. Remove the cup tray, empty the water and clean the drip tray with a cloth, then reassemble the drip tray.
3. Put the drip tray back in place.

Cleaning the coffee filters
Clean the coffee filters regularly by rinsing under running water. Make sure the holes are not blocked. If necessary, clean with a pin (fig. 21).

Cleaning the boiler outlet
After every 200 coffees, rinse the boiler outlet by delivering about 0.5 l of water from the boiler outlet (press the coffee button without using ground coffee).

Other cleaning operations

1. Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents to clean the coffee maker. Use a soft damp cloth only.
2. Clean the filter holder cup regularly.
3. Cleaning the water tank
4. Clean the water tank regularly (about once a month) with a damp cloth and a little mild washing-up liquid.

Danger!
During cleaning, never immerse the coffee maker in water. It is an electrical appliance.

Descaling

Descale the appliance when the orange light on the button comes on. Important!

• Descaler contains acids that may irritate the skin and eyes. It is vital to respect the manufacturer’s safety warnings given on the descaler pack and the warnings relating to the procedure to follow in the event of contact with the skin and eyes.
• You should use the De’Longhi descaler only. Using an unsuitable descaler and/or performing descaling incorrectly may result in faults not covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee.

Proceed as follows:

1. Fill the tank with the descaler solution obtained by diluting the descaler with water following the instructions on the pack.
2. Press the ON/OFF button.
3. Make sure the filter holder is not attached and position a recipient under the cappuccino maker.
4. Wait for the and lights to come on steadily, indicating that the appliance is ready for use.
5. ress and hold the button for 10 seconds until the three buttons flash in sequence.
6. Turn the steam dial to the position.
7. Press the button to start descaling.
8. The descaling program starts and the descaler liquid comes out of the water spout.
   The descaling program removes limescale deposits from inside the appliance by automatically performing a series of rinses and pauses until the tank is completely empty. Please note:
   During descaling, to clean the boiler outlet, close the steam dial from time to time to deliver small quantities of descaler from the boiler outlet.
9. The appliance stops operation and the orange light continues to flash, indicating that descaling is still underway.
10. The coffee maker is now ready for rinsing with clean water.
    Extract the water tank, empty, rinse under running water, fill with fresh water up to the MAX level and put back in the appliance.
11. Empty the container used to collect the descaler solution and replace it empty under the hot water spout.
12. Make sure the steam dial is in the  , position, then press the button to start rinsing..

Electrical connection

Before plugging the appliance into the electrical receptacle,
check that:

• The outlet’s power supply corresponds to the value indicated on the rating label on the back of the appliance;
• The outlet and electrical circuit are adequate for the appliance;
• The outlet is a 3-hole grounded outlet . If this is not the case, you must choose another outlet. Failure to follow these important safety instructions absolves the manufacturer of all liability.

If it becomes necessary, the power cable must be replaced by a qualified professional only.

Theinstructionsbelow willenable you to prepare yourair conditioner for operation as efficiently as possible. Before use, make sure the air intake and outlet grilles are unobstructed.

USE

Air conditioning with installation

For optimal results set-up your appliance in this way:

1. Screw the hose adaptor C3 to the hose’s end C2.
2. Fit the air exhaust hose in the housing at the back of the appliance. Insert it as shown in figure 1.
   
   
3. Drill a hole (ø134mm / 5.27 in.) in an outside wall or through a window pane.
   
   Respect the height and dimensions of the hole given in figures 2 and 3.
   
4. Fit the wall flange C1 into the hole. 1
5. Screw the wall mounting accessory C4 into the hose C2 (fig. 4) and fit it into the wall flange C1 as shown in fig. 5.
   
   

When the hose C2 is not fitted, the hole can be closed with the flange cap C1.

Air conditioning without installation

You can also set-up in a double-hung window:

1. Place the bracket in the window sill, extend the bracket fully within the window frame, fix the bracket by using the pin then lower the window onto the bracket. (Should the window bracket be too large for the window, the plastic can be cut with a saw by a qualified professional).
2. Fit the air exhaust hose in the housing at the back of the appliance. Insert it as shown in fig. 1.
3. Screw the window outlet C7 to the other end of the exhaust hose (see fig. 6).
   
4. Insert the window outlet end of the exhaust hose into the slot of the window bracket (fig. 7).
   

Other set-up methods:

• Thanks to the locking pins, it’s possible to use the win- dow bracket also for sliding windows. Position the hole 7 of the bracket so to allow a correct installation of the exhaust hose (see fig. 8).
• If you have a casement window follow steps 2 & 3 and place the window outlet outside the window to exhaust the hot air (fig. 9).
  

OPERATING FROM THE CONTROL PANEL

Note:

• Before plugging theappliancecheckthe capsonthe back of the unit are correctly inserted and screwed on thedrainagehose A10.
• Never turn the air conditioner off by unplugging from the outlet. Always press the button,  then wait for a few minutes before unplugging. This allows the appliance to perform a cycle of checks to verify operation

TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON

Plug into the electrical receptacle. Two lines appear on the display indicating that the appliance is in stand-by (fig. 10).
Press the button (B1).
The first time the appliance

The first time the appliance is turned on, it will be in air conditioning mode. Room temperature will be displayed and fan speed will be at  minimum (fig. 11). When turned on subsequently it will be in the  same mode as when last turned off.
Press the MODE button (B2) until the light corresponding to the desired mode lights up:

Ideal for hot muggy weather when you need to cool and dehumidify the room.

To set this function correctly:

• Press the MODE button a number of times until the air conditioning symbol appears. Room temperature is displayed (fig. 11)
  
• Select the target temperature by pressing the button (B6) or button (B3) until the required value is displayed. During  selection, the temperature flashes (fig. 12).
  After 10 seconds, room temperature is displayed again.
• Select the required fan speed by pressing the button.

There are 3 speeds available:

High speed: to achieve the target temperature as rapidly as possible;
Medium speed: reduces noise levels but still maintains a good level of comfort;
Low speed: for silent operation.

The most suitable indoor temperature for the room during the summer varies from 75°F to 81°F (24 to 27°C). You are recommended, however, not to set a temperature much below the outdoor temperature.

Note:
When installing the air conditioner, you should leave a door slightly open little as 1/2“ (1 cm) to guarantee correct ventilation and room pressure.

Ideal to reduce room humidity (spring and autumn, damp rooms, rainy periods, etc). For this mode, the appliance should be prepared in the same way as for air conditioning, with the air exhaust hose attached to enable the moisture to be discharged outside.

To set this function correctly:

• Press the MODE button a number of times until the dehumidifying symbol appears (fig. 13).
  In this mode, with room temperature above 77 °F, the fan speed isadjustable. If the temperature isbelow, fanspeedis selected automatically by the appliance and cannot be set manually

This is ideal in spring and autumn when outdoor temperatures are not particularly severe.
For this mode, the appliance should be prepared in the same way as for air conditioning, with the air exhaust hose attached to enable the moisture to be discharged outside.

• Press the MODE button a number of times until the °F heating symbol appears (fig. 14).
  
• Select the required fan speed by pressing the button (B5).

High speed: to achieve the target temperature as rapidly as possible
Medium speed: reduces noise levels but still maintains a good level of comfort
Low speed: for silent operation

With particular room conditions (e.g. low temperature or high temperature), the appliance will automatically select the operating fan speed however, If the unit is cold, it will automatically perform a pre-heating cycle. It can take several minutes and fan will not operate until pre-heating cycle is over. In this mode, the fan may operate for short periods, even though the set temperature has already been reached

When using the appliance in this mode, the air exhaust hose does not need to be attached.
To set this function correctly:

• Press the MODE button (B2) a number of times until the fan symbol appears.
• Select the required fan speed by pressing the button (B5).
  

High speed: for maximum fan power (fig. 15);

Medium speed: reduces noise levels but still maintains a good level of comfort (fig. 16);
Low speed: for silent operation (fig. 17).

To change the unit of measurement forthedisplayed temperature, press the and buttons together for 3 seconds.

SETTING THE TIMER

The timer can be used to delay when the appliance comes on or goes off. This avoids wasting electricity by optimising operating periods.

How to programme delayed start up

• Plug the appliance into an electrical receptacle. It will be in STAND-BY.
• Press the timer button (B4).
  The timer symbol (B16) comes on (fig. 18).
• Use the (B6) or (B3) buttons to set the number ofhoursdelay before the appliance comeson. They increase or decrease the time in steps of an hour.

The appliance can be set to come on within the next 24 hours.
Five seconds after the timer has been set, the display dims and the setting is memorised.
Aftersetting, the operating mode and fan speed can be modified.
To cancel the timer programme, press the timer button (B4) again. Pressing the ON/OFF button (B1) cancels the timer programme and the air conditioner comes on immediately in the selected mode.

How to programmedelay OFF

Delay OFF can be programmed in any operating mode – air conditioning/fan/ dehumidifying.

• Press the timer button (B4).
  The timer on symbol (B16) comes on (fig. 19).
  
• Use the (B6) or (B3) buttons to set the number of hours delay before the appliance goes off.

They increase or decrease the time in steps of an hour.
The appliance can be set to go off within the next 24 hours.
Five seconds after the timer has been set, the operating mode is displayed and the timer symbol remains on.
At the set time, the air conditioner goes off and remains in stand-by.
To cancel the timer programme, press the timer button (B4) again. The timer symbol goes off.

After setting, the operating mode and fan speed can be modified

OPERATING FROM THE REMOTE CONTROL

Usingthe remote control

• Point the remote control at the receiver on the air conditioner. The remote control must be no more than 16,4ft (5 meters) away from the appliance (without obstacles between the remote control and the receiver).

Inserting or replacing the batteries

• Remove the cover on the rear of the remote control;
• Remove the old batteries, if present.
• Correctly insert two new L03 “AAA” 1,5V batteries (see the instructions inside the battery compartment);
• Replace the cover.

If the remote control unit is replaced or discarded, the batteries must be removed and disposed of in accordance with current legislation as they are harmful to the environment. Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries. Do not dispose of batteries in fire. Batteries may explode or leak. If the remote control will not be used for a certain length of time, remove the batteries.

• Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.
• This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. TIPS FOR CORRECT USE

To get the best from your air conditioner, follow these recommendations:

• Close the windows and doors in the room to be air conditioned. When installing the air conditioner semipermanently, you should leave a door slightly open (as little as 1/2 inch (1 cm) to guarantee proper ventilation.
  
• Never use the appliance in very damp rooms (laundries for example).
• Protect the room from direct exposure to the sun by partially closing curtains and/or blinds to make the appliance much more economical to run.
  
• Never use the appliance outdoors.
• Make sure there are no heat sources in the room.
• Make sure the air conditioner is standing on a level surface.
  
• Never rest objects of any kind on the air conditioner.
• Never obstruct the air intake or outlet grilles.

CLEANING

Before cleaning or maintenance, turn the appliance off by pressing the ON/OFF button (B1) or in models with remote control unit, by pressing the ON/OFF button (D1), then always unplug the appliance from the electrical receptacle.

Cleaningthe cabinet
You should clean the appliance with a slightly damp cloth then dry with a dry cloth.
For safety reasons, never wash the air conditioner with water.

Precautions
Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents to clean the appliance.
Never spray insecticide liquids or similar.

Cleaning the silver ion air filter

If the filter is dirty, air circulation is compromised and the efficiency of the dehumidifying and air purifying functions decreases.
It is therefore good practice to clean the filter at regular intervals. The frequency depends on the duration and conditions of operation.
If the unit is used constantly or systematically, you are recommended to clean the filter once a week.
The filter is housed in the intake grille.
To clean the filter, extract as shown in fig. 20.

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust collected on the filter. If it is very dirty, immerse in warm water and rinse a number of times. The water should never be hotter than 104°F ( 40°C).
After washing, leave the filter to dry. Put the filter back in its housing.
The silver ion filter not just retains dust particles, but also has an efficient antibacterial action. It also greatly reduces concentrations of irritants such as pollenand spores.

Start of season checks

Make sure the power cable and plug are undamaged and the ground connection is efficient. Follow the installation instructions precisely.

End of season operations

To drain all water from the circuit, remove the external cap by unscrewing it in the anticlockwise direction then, remove the internal cap from the drain hose on the back of the appliance and allow the water to drain out into a basin (fig. 21).
When the appliance is empty, replace thecaps.
Clean the filter and dry thoroughly before putting back. In order to properly storage the appliance at the end of the season, we suggest you cover it with the supplied end of season dust cover C9 and you put the accessories in the relevant end of season accessories bag C10.

TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE UNIT

NEVER TRANSPORT OR TURN THE APPLIANCE UPSIDE DOWN OR ON ITS SIDE. IF THIS OCCURS, WAIT 6 HOURS BEFORE TURNING THE APPLIANCE ON, 24 HOURS IS RECOMMENDED. After the unit has been on its side, oil needs to return to the compressor to ensure proper function. Without allowing the unit this time (6-24  hours) the unit may function for only a short time, and then thecompressor will break down from lack of oil.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PLUG

This appliance is equipped with a 3 prong grounded plug. The plug must be connected into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in the accordance with all local codes and ordinances. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance.
If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician or relocate the unit to a proper outlet. If the household electrical supply does not meet the above specifications, or if you are not sure your home has an effective electrical ground, have a qualified electrician or your local electrical utility company check it and correct any problems.

FOOD SAFETY

• Do not cook raw meat or raw shellfish in a microwave, due to the possibility of uneven heating.

• Always check the temperature of food before serving.
• Food cooking times will vary with microwave wattage (MAFF rating). When following recipes and on-pack cooking instructions always check the MAFF rating/wattage of the appliance being used (marked on the front of the microwave) and follow the corresponding cooking advice.

INSTALLATION

• This microwave is designed to be free-standing and is not intended to be used ‘built in’ or in a cabinet.
• Select a level surface away from televisions, cookers and other heat-producing appliances.
• Ensure adequate ventilation and allow a clearance of
  • 20cm at each side of the oven
  • 30cm clearance above the oven
  • 10cm at the rear of the oven
  • The minimum installation height is 85cm
• Ensure that the cable is not close to any sharp or hot surfaces or where it is likely to cause a trip hazard.

• Ensure all packaging materials, protective film and adhesive tape are removed and check the oven and door for any damage. Do not remove the waveguide cover.
• Assemble as shown above and ensure that the glass turntable is correctly positioned on the shaft and roller.

• When using the microwave do not fit the grill rack.

CONTROL PANEL

TIME INCREMENTS

SETTING THE CLOCK

1. Fully unwind the cable, plug in and switch on. The microwave will emit a single bleep and the display will show 0:00.
2. Press the KITCHEN TIMER / CLOCK button TWICE (the hour digit will flash) and then turn the FUNCTION knob until the correct hour is displayed.
3. Press the KITCHEN TIMER / CLOCK button again (the minute digits will flash) and turn the FUNCTION knob until the correct minute is displayed.
4. Press the KITCHEN TIMER / CLOCK button again to save the setting.

Note: If the oven is unplugged or turned off at the mains the clock setting will be lost.

SELECTING THE OVEN POWER LEVEL AND COOKING MODE 

The default on the microwave oven is set to cook at full power unless otherwise changed. To select a lower power setting or to select grill or combination cooking modes, either

• Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button repeatedly or alternatively
• Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI once and turn the FUNCTION knob to scroll through the options available.

The power or cooking mode selected will be shown in the display.

TO STOP COOKING PROCESS OR CANCEL SETTINGS

• The oven can be paused at any time by briefly pressing the STOP / CLEAR button during operation or by opening the door.
• The oven can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP / CLEAR button TWICE.

CHILD LOCK

This function helps prevent accidental operation during cleaning or unsupervised operation of the oven by children.

To activate the lock
Press and hold the STOP / CLEAR button until the display shows[ ] (approx. 3 seconds), a single long bleep is heard.

To deactivate the lock
Press and hold the STOP / CLEAR button until a single long bleep is heard (approx. 3 seconds).

KITCHEN TIMER

The clock can be used to set a countdown timer.

1. Press the KITCHEN TIMER / CLOCK button ONCE and the display will show 00:00.
2. Turn the FUNCTION knob until the required time interval is displayed (5 seconds to 95 minutes) and press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to save.
3. The timer will now start to count down. When the set time has elapsed the oven will bleep five times.

MICROWAVE COOKING (uses the microwave)

1. Place the food to be cooked in a suitable microwave-safe container and cover.
2.  Pull open the door, place the container in the center of the glass turntable and securely close the oven door.
3. Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button, and select the microwave power level of choice (see ‘Power levels’ table for options).
4. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to save the setting and turn the FUNCTION knob until the required cooking time is displayed (5 seconds to 95 minutes).  Please note that the increments that the timer increases varies depending on the length of cooking time required (see ‘Time increment’ table) For example, when choosing a  cooking time between 1 and 5 minutes the timer will increase in increments of 10 seconds.
5. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button. A bleep will be heard, the microwave will start to cook and the timer will start to count down.
6. Cooking can be interrupted to stir the contents or check cooking progress by opening the door. Settings will be retained and cooking will restart when the door is closed and the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button is pressed.
7. After the cooking time has finished, five bleeps will sound and the microwave will turn off automatically.
8. Allow food to stand for 30 seconds to one minute before stirring or serving.
9. The oven can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP / CLEAR button, or by opening the door. Pressing the STOP / CLEAR  button twice will clear settings and stop the cooking program.

Notes:

• To check the time during oven operation, press the KITCHEN TIMER / CLOCK button and the time will briefly be displayed before returning to the countdown timer.
• To check the power level during oven operation, press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button and the time will briefly be displayed before returning to the countdown timer.

EXPRESS MICROWAVE MODE (uses the microwave)

This function allows the oven to be set quickly at 30 seconds increments.

1. Place the item to be cooked in a suitable microwave-safe container.  Open the door and position the container in the center of the glass turntable. Securely close the microwave door.
2. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to cook on full power for 30 seconds. Each successive press of the button will increase the cooking time by 30 seconds.  The microwave will start to cook and the timer will start to count down as normal.

GRILL COOKING (uses the grill) 

1. Place the food to be cooked in a suitable grill-safe container. Pull open the door and place the container in the center of the oven or alternatively place the food directly on the grill rack with a grill safe collecting tray beneath.
2. Securely close the oven door.
3. Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button and turn the FUNCTION knob or press the button repeatedly until ‘G’ is shown in the display.
4. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to save the setting and turn the FUNCTION knob until the required cooking time is displayed (5 seconds to 95 minutes).
5. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button. A bleep will be heard, the grill will start to cook, the timer will start to count down.
6. Cooking can be interrupted to stir contents or check cooking progress by opening the door. Settings will be retained and cooking will restart when the door is closed and the  START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button is pressed.
7. Approximately halfway through the grill program, two beeps will be heard as a reminder to turn food over if two side grilling is required.
8. After the cooking time has finished, five beeps will sound, and the grill turns off automatically.
9. The oven can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP / CLEAR button, or by opening the door. Pressing the STOP / CLEAR button twice will clear settings and stop  the cooking program

COMBINATION COOKING (uses the microwave and grill)

1. This function combines both cooking methods and two preset programs are available.
   •Combination mode 1 – 55% of cooking time is by microwave and 45% by the grill
   •Combination mode 2 – 36% of cooking time is by microwave and 64% by the grill
2. Place the food to be cooked in a suitable microwave and grill-safe container. Pull open the door and place the container in the center of the oven or alternatively place the food directly on the grill rack with a microwave and grill safe collecting tray beneath.
3. Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button and select the desired combination mode (C-1 or C-2).
4. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to save the setting and turn the FUNCTION knob until the required cooking time is displayed (5 seconds to 95 minutes).
5. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button. A bleep will be heard, the grill will start to cook and the timer will start to count down.
6. The oven will start to cook and the timer will start to count down.
7. After the cooking time has finished, five beeps will sound and the oven will turn off automatically.
8. Allow food to stand for 30 seconds to one minute before serving.
9. The oven can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP / CLEAR button, or by opening the door. Pressing the STOP / CLEAR button twice will clear settings and stop the cooking program.

DEFROSTING

1. Weight defrost
   1.1. Weigh the item to be defrosted and place in a suitable microwave-safe container. Open the door and position the container in the center of the glass turntable. Securely close the microwave door.
   1.2. Press the WEIGHT / TIME DEFROST button and the display will show dEF 1,
   1.3. Enter the weight of the item (100 – 2000g) by turning the FUNCTION knob until the corresponding weight is displayed.
   1.4. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button. The microwave will start to defrost and the timer will count down.
   1.5. After the cooking time has finished, five beeps will sound and the microwave will turn off automatically.
2. Time defrost
   Where the maximum weight is above 2000g the time defrost function can be used.
   2.1. Place the item to be defrosted in a suitable microwave-safe container. Open the door and position the container in the center of the glass turntable. Securely close the microwave door.
   2.2. Press the WEIGHT / TIME DEFROST button TWICE and the display will show dEF 2.
   2.3. Enter the defrost time (maximum 95 minutes) using the FUNCTION knob.
   2.4. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button. The microwave will start to defrost and the timer will count down.
   2.5. After the cooking time has finished, five beeps will sound and the microwave will turn off automatically.

MULTISTAGE COOKING (uses the microwave and/or grill function)

The oven can be programmed to carry out up to two consecutive functions. For example, if you wish to microwave at 50% power for 5 minutes and then grill for 7 minutes.

1. Place the item to be defrosted in a suitable microwave and grill-safe container. Open the door and position the container in the center of the glass turntable. Securely close the microwave door.
2. Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button and select ‘P50’ and press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button.
3. Turn the FUNCTION knob to until 5:00 minutes is displayed. DO NOT press START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button.
4. Press the MICROWAVE / GRILL / COMBI button and select ‘G’ and turn the FUNCTION knob to select grilling time (e.g. 7minutes).
5. Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button, the microwave will start to cook immediately and then work through the cooking sequence.
6. A bleep is heard at the end of each stage and if the grill option is used two beeps will be heard approximately halfway through this step to prompt a user to turn item over.
7. Cooking can be interrupted to stir the contents or to check the cooking progress by opening the door. Settings will be retained and cooking will restart when the door is closed and the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button is pressed.
8. After the cooking time has finished, five beeps will sound and the microwave will turn off automatically.
9. Allow food to stand for 30 seconds to one minute before stirring or serving.
10. The oven can be stopped at any time by pressing the STOP / CLEAR button, or by opening the door. Pressing the STOP / CLEAR button twice will clear settings and stop the cooking program.

Note: Defrost function (time or weight) can only be programmed at the start of this function.

EXTENDING THE COOKING TIME DURING USE

If additional cooking time is anticipated during operation in any of the cooking (not weight defrost) modes press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to extend the cooking time by 30  seconds. Each successive press of the button will extend the cooking time by 30  seconds.

AUTO MENU FUNCTION (uses the microwave)

The oven has a pre-programmed cooking menu that can be used immediately from start-up just by turning the FUNCTION knob clockwise.

1. Place the item to be cooked in a suitable microwave-safe container. Open the door and position the container in the centre of the glass  turntable. Securely close the microwave door.
2. Turn the FUNCTION knob to the RIGHT and select the auto-cooking program of choice (see table below). Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button to save the setting.
3. Turn the FUNCTION knob to select the weight / or volume corresponding to the item being cooked.
4.  Press the START / +30SEC / CONFIRM button. The microwave will start to cook and the timer will start to count down from the preset time.
5. After the cooking time has finished, five bleeps will sound. Allow food to stand 30 seconds to one minute before stirring or serving.

CLEANING

Clean the oven and seals to remove food debris on a weekly basis and more often if required. Failure to maintain the oven and seals in a clean condition could lead to deterioration of the surface or seals, adversely affect the life of the oven and possibly result in a hazardous situation (possible release of microwave energy). Clean the oven after each use, if food is cooked uncovered and especially if fatty foods are cooked and the grill function is used.
1. Switch off, unplug the oven and allow the oven to cool completely.
2. Wipe surfaces and seals with a soft damp cloth (not wet). Do not use abrasive cleaning products or metal scrapers to clean the glass door of the oven as this could damage the surface and cause breakage. Do not immerse in water. Do not use a steam cleaner.
3. The grill rack, glass turntable and turntable roller can be washed in hot water with a little washing-up liquid. NOT SUITABLE FOR
DISHWASHERS.
4. Always allow surfaces to fully dry before using the oven again.

GUIDE FOR MATERIALS SUITABLE FOR USE IN THE OVEN

DO NOT use metallic containers for food and beverages, aluminium foil, or any other metal trimmed packaging in the oven.

• Ensure food is similar size and density. Large dense items take longer to cook than small ones e.g. potatoes take longer to cook than peas.
• Food quantity will affect the cooking time, e.g. two potatoes take longer than one.
• The shape of food will affect the cooking time; place the thickest part of food on the outside of the plate.
• Leave food to stand for a short period after cooking or defrosting to allow the temperature to become uniform.
