Thank you for choosing a Denon AV receiver. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your AV receiver.

Before You Begin

when connecting this unit to a device that is compatible with the Deep Color, 4K and ARC functions, use a “High-Speed HDMI cable with Ethernet” that displays the HDMI logo.

There are four steps to the setup process.

Connecting the receiver

Place the receiver near your TV and connect the power cord
Connect the receiver to your TV with an HDMI cable
ARC (Audio Return Channel):
If your TV supports ARC, your TV can send audio back to the AV receiver when you are using your TV’s built-in video sources (TV tuner, Smart TV streaming services, etc…) ARC requires that you enable HDMI CEC on your TV. Please refer to your TV’s Owner’s Manual for instructions on how to setup HDMI CEC. Note that some TV manufacturers use other names for the HDMI CEC function.
Turn on the TV
Select the appropriate HDMI input on your TV
Turn on the receiver
1. Press POWER to turn on the receiver.
Verify the connection
- Verify that you can see this screen on your TV.

If this screen is not displayed, please go back and retry the steps again in the recommended sequence.

Following the On-Screen Setup Assistant

The Setup Assistant will walk you through connecting and confi guring your speakers and components to your Denon receiver. Please use the remote control and follow the on-screen instructions.

Enjoying music using Bluetooth

Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the remote control for at least 3 seconds to go into pairing mode.
Activate the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device.
Select “Denon AVR-S540BT” from the Bluetooth device list on your mobile device.
Play music using any App on your device.
BLUETOOTH: To reconnect a previously paired Bluetooth device, Start at step 2.

Thanks very much for your question. The connections are preamp outputs that are intended for use with a powered sub. A passive sub will not run off this receiver. World Wide Stereo is 38 years old and a proud authorized Denon dealer.

I plug in an antenna that goes to my outside wireless speakers in the headphone jack, on some receivers this turns off my inside connected speakers,?

don’t use the headphone jack for your wireless speakers. Connecting anything to headphones Jack or aux Jack usually will remove sound from going to your hooked-up speakers.

Do you need a tv to set up pandora or a wireless connection?

You need a tv or monitor that is capable of hdmi to use the on screen setup. U can setup music without a tv using the demon AVR app

Does anybody know how to connect bookshelf, center, tweeter, and sub speakers to this receiver. And then all that to a projector?

Denon provides a good tutorial on connecting your surround sound speakers. In order to have video playing from your projector and sound to your surround sound, my guess is you’d need to run an HDMI from the dvd or video player to the projector, then another hdmi from the projector to the receiver. Another option is to run a video cable from the receiver or the dvd/video player to the projector

How do I get a replacement mic for set up?

Can you add an amplifier to this device?

The Denon is a receiver/amplifier. It has a 5-channel 700 watt amplifier built in. It is not designed to pair with any additional amplifiers.

does this receiver have fiber optic connection and HDMI?

To be specific, it has 2 optical digital inputs on addition to a few HDMI inputs. When Google was still selling Chromecast Audio devices, I bought one and the nice thing is that Chromecast Audio output is actually a combo – both optical and 3.5mm auxiliary into one. Anybody using that device should use the optical output to this receiver. Once you calibrate the receiver and set the equalizer, the sound quality is awesome. I do use Chromecast Video, Roku, etc.. Multiple inputs on this is very helpful.

Is it compatible with nintendo switch for 5.1, taking into account that the switch outputs pcm for surround sound?

Hello and thank you for your question. Yes the AVR-S540BT is compatible with PCM and Digital audio signals. It also has Dolby ProLogic II. This mode can be selected when the Dolby PL 2-Roman Numeral decoder is used to play back 2-channel sources in 5.1-channel surround sound with an enveloping surround sound experience.

Screen turns to pinkish color after 2 hours of casting amazon videos when chromecast connected to 2.media player hdmi in, does anyone face this issue?

Hello,
A pink screen can be caused by a number of things. It could be the AVR’s HDMI board if it’s happening with multiple sources. I would also try replacing the HDMI input cable and see if it continues. If so, I then recommend you contact our Support team by calling 201-762-6665 (M-F, 11 AM to 6 PM EST) so they can further troubleshoot the issue.

If i buy this now, will it have the new hdmi chip that supports video from xbox x?
No, I believe that you will still have to request the add on device from Denon.
Can I run 2 center channels (voice of God) with an external amp?
The VOG channel is not really considered as a true “Center” channel, but rather an overhead effects channel. Our X4700H is the first model in the lineup that supports the VOG channel (Top Surround) for Auro 3D. If you just want to run a 2nd Center channel (duplicating the powered Center channel) you can use the AVR’s Center pre-out to an external amp.
Does this have Bluetooth capability?
Yes, the Denon AVRX3700H supports Bluetooth along with Apple AirPlay2.
Does this receiver allow you to increase dialogue volume only? I ask because it seems like every movie I listen to now a days has whisper quiet dialog?
Yes, there are several ways to accomplish increasing the dialogue with the Denon AVRX3700H. If running surround sound. Go to settings>Manual setup>Levels>Test tone and increase the center CH level. You can also adjust the EQ using on screen Menu or the Audyssey app. Night mode is another option.
Can i control the volume of each pair of speakers individually?

How do you use the Fire Stick 4K with this receiver?
Through eARC with the stick in the TV, or into an HDMI port on the receiver.

No. They send you a box that solves the issue for some devices like Xbox series x.

Note:

The included sound calibration microphone stand is convenient for use when performing Speaker Calibration. Using your own tripod or the supplied Sound calibration microphone stand enables settings to be automatically configured to the optimum listening environment, providing exceptionally high performance.

Important: External Antennas

The removable external antennas are required for both Bluetooth and Wireless network connectivity. Please make sure to connect the antennas before attempting to use the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi features of the AVR-X2500H.

Connecting the external antennas for Bluetooth / Wireless connectivity
For each of the two antennas:

Place the antenna evenly over the antenna terminal located at the upper left or right corner of the rear panel.
Turn the antenna clockwise until it is fully connected. Do not over tighten.
Rotate the antenna upwards for the best possible reception.

Setup

There are four steps to the setup process.

1) Place the receiver near your TV and connect the power cord TV

2) Connect the receiver to your home network
Wired LAN
Connect an Ethernet cable (not included) between your receiver and your network router.

Wireless LAN
When connecting to wireless LAN (Wi-Fi), follow the instructions in “Connecting the external antennas for Bluetooth / Wireless connectivity” and connect the antennas.

ARC (Audio Return Channel) :
If your TV supports ARC, your TV can send audio back to the AV receiver when you are using your TV’s built-in video sources (TV tuner, Smart TV streaming services, etc…) ARC requires that you enable HDMI CEC on your TV. Please refer to your TV’s Owner’s Manual for instructions on how to setup HDMI CEC. Note that some TV manufacturers use other names for the HDMI CEC function.

5) Select the appropriate HDMI input on your TV

6) Turn on the receiver

Press to turn on the receiver.

7) Verify the connection

Verify that you can see this screen on your TV.

If this screen is not displayed, please go back and retry the steps again in the recommended sequence.

The Setup Assistant will walk you through connecting and configuring your speakers and components to your Denon receiver. Please use the remote control and follow the on-screen instructions.

Download both the “HEOS” App and the “Denon 2016 AVR Remote” App for the full home entertainment experience.

There are six steps to the setup process.

Install batteries in the remote control unit
Connect the speakers to PMA-A110
Connecting The Speaker Cables
Peel off about 3/8 inch (10 mm) of sheathing from the tip of the speaker cable, then either twist the core wire tightly or apply solder to it.
b. Turn the speaker terminal counterclockwise to loosen it.
c. Insert the speaker cable’s core wire to all the way into the speaker terminal.
d. Turn the speaker terminal clockwise to tighten it.
Connect the CD player to PMA-A110
Plug the power cord into a power outlet
Begin CD playback
- Press the power operation button.
  Turn VOLUME on the main unit to adjust the volume to the lowest level before turning on the power.
- Set the input source to “CD”. “CD” is displayed on the display of this unit.
- Play the CD player.
- Adjust the volume.
Listen to computer audio via USB-DAC

Install the Windows driver software

NOTE:
The installation of the driver software is not necessary in the following cases.

When you do not play back the music from a PC using USB-DAC of this unit.
When using a macOS.

The driver software cannot be installed correctly if your PC is connected to the unit by a USB cable. If the unit and your computer are connected by a USB cable and the computer is switched on before installation, disconnect the USB and restart the computer.

Windows OS

System requirements：Windows 8.1 or Windows 10

Download the dedicated driver from the “Download” section of the PMA-A110 page of the Denon website (https://www.denon.com/) onto your PC.
Unzip the downloaded file, and double-click the EXE file.
Install the driver.
- Select the language to use for the installation.
- Click “OK”.
- The wizard menu is displayed. Follow the instructions on the screen.
- When the wizard is completed, click “Yes”.

NOTE:

Please see the FAQ at www.denon.com if you experience any issues getting audio to play from your computer through the PMA-A110. You may also want to check the support pages for audio player application.

Connect to PC or Mac

Listen to audio from PC or Mac

Power on.
Press INPUT SELECT to switch the input source to “USB-DAC”.
Set the audio signal destination to this unit on
Set the audio signal destination to this unit on the computer.

Windows OS

Click the “Start” button and click “Control Panel” on the PC.
- The control panel setting list is displayed.
Click the “Sound” icon.
- The sound menu window is displayed.
Check that there is a checkmark next to “Default Device” under in “PMA-A110” of the “Playback” tab.
- When there is a checkmark for a diff erent device, click “PMA-A110” and “Set Default”.
Select “PMA-A110” and click “Properties”.
- The PMA-A110 Properties window is displayed.
Click the “Advanced” tab.
Select the sampling rate and bit rate to be applied to the D/A converter.
- It is recommended that “2 channel, 32 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality)” is selected.
Click “Apply”.
Click “Test”.
- Check that audio from this unit is output from the PC.

macOS

System requirements: macOS 10.13, 10.14 and 10.15

Move the cursor to “Go” on the computer screen, and then click “Utilities”.
- The utility list is displayed.
Double-click “Audio MIDI Setup”.
- The “Audio Devices” window is displayed.
Check that “Use this device for sound output” is checked in PMA-A110”.
- If a different device is checked, select and “Secondary click” on “PMA-A110”, and then select “Use this device for sound output”.
Select the “PMA-A110” format.
- It is normally recommended to set the format to “384000.0 Hz” and “2ch-32 bit Interger”.
Quit Audio MIDI Setup.

Use your favorite music applications on your PC/Mac to play audio through the PMA-A110.

For high resolution audio playback you will need to obtain an advanced audio player software such as JRiver Media Center or Audirvana.

NOTE:

Additional settings to output audio to the PMA-A110 may have to be selected in your advanced audio player application. Please refer to the user’s manual for your application.

DENON DL-A110 Phono Cartridge Owner's Manual

Thank you for purchasing a Denon 110th anniversary DL-A110 cartridge.
This unit reproduces the head shell of the DL-103 head cartridge, with a 56-year history and which can be said to be the Japanese standard MC cartridge, used by Japan’s public broadcaster NHK for broadcasting when first released. It is a replica model of the head shell for the DL-103 attached to that head cartridge.

The DL-103 was jointly developed in 1964 by Denon (Nippon Columbia Co., Ltd. at the time) and NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories as a device compatible with high sound quality FM stereo broadcasting. Since its adoption by many broadcasters, it has come to be used by many music and audio fans in the consumer market in addition to for business applications.

We invite you to use this Denon 110th anniversary commemorative model, which reproduces the character seen at the birth of the DL-103, as a token of our appreciation for patronizing the DL-103 over the years.

Use the stylus cover to protect the cartridge stylus tip in situations such as attaching the cartridge to a different head shell.

Attaching this unit to the tone arm

This unit is very delicate. Be especially careful when handling it.
1 Insert this unit into the tip of the tone arm.

Insert this unit with its guide pin facing up and aligned with the hole on the top of the tone arm.

2 Turn the lock nut in the direction of the arrow to secure this unit.

The head shell adapter is attached to this unit beforehand. That gains appropriate overhang when attaching this unit to a standard universal type tone arm. We recommend that you use it SV without removing.

Tracking force adjustment

Tracking force in the range of 25 MN ±3 MN (2.5 g ±0.3 g) should be used.

Output voltage

The output voltage is 0.3 mV. If your amplifier does not support the MC cartridge input, use a step-up transformer or head amplifier designed for MC type cartridges.

Stylus cleaning

Use the included brush to carefully remove any dirt from the tip of the stylus before and after playing records.
