SKILL LEVEL – EASY

SIZES

Finished Bust 48 (53, 59) in. (122 (134.5, 150) cm)
Finished Length 26 (27, 28) in. (66 (68.5, 71) cm)
Note Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.

MATERIALS

  • LION BRAND® OFF THE HOOK
    (Art. #516) #202 Misty Morning 9 (11, 12) balls
  • LION BRAND stitch markers
  • LION BRAND large-eyed blunt needle

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS

Smooth yarn for seaming
NOTES

  1. Cardi is designed to be oversized.
  2. Body of Cardi is worked in one piece from the lower back up to the shoulders. Then stitches are ound-off for the back neck and the two fronts are worked separately down to the lower front edge.
  3. Sleeves are worked directly onto the body.
  4. When you want to join a new ball of yarn, you’ll need to join when you’re at the end of a row. Pull out one end of the new yarn, leave 2-3 loops hanging, then continue to work back and forth in rows across the loops of the previous row with the new ball.

CARDI

Body
Row 1:
Pull out one end of yarn and count out 38 (42, 46) loops. You’ll be working on just 36 (40, 44) loops to make the body, the other 2 loops are the beginning yarn tail and will be secured later. Check to be sure that all loops are facing upwards and that loops aren’t twisted.
Now you’ll be working back and forth in rows across the loops.

Tip
This yarn is designed so that the loops stay in place you can set the Cardigan down at any point and the loops won’t come undone! The yarn that’s coming from the yarn ball is called the working yarn.

Row 2: Take the working yarn behind first row of 38 (42, 46) loops. Insert thumb and forefinger, from front to back, into 38th (42nd, 46th) loop, grasp 39th (43rd, 47th) loop and draw it through, *insert thumb and forefinger into next loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through; repeat from * until 36 (40, 44) loops have been drawn through and 2 loops remain unworked for beginning tail.

Row 3: Take the working yarn behind previous row of 36 (40, 44) loops. Working back in the opposite direction, insert thumb and forefinger, from front to back, into last loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through, *insert thumb and forefinger into next loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through; repeat from * until 36 (40, 44) loops have been drawn through.

Repeat Row 3 until piece measures about 26 (27, 28) in. (66 (68.5, 71) cm) from beginning.

First Front
Now you will work back and forth over only the first 15 (17, 19) loops to make one of the fronts.

Row 1: Take the working yarn behind previous row of 36 (40, 44) loops. Working back in the opposite direction, insert thumb and forefinger, from front to back, into last loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through, *insert thumb and forefinger into next loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through; repeat from * until 15 (17, 19) loops have been drawn through; place a marker on the next loop to indicate beginning of back neck.
Continue working in rows on these 15 (17, 19) loops only until first front measures the same as the back.

Bind Off: Working in the same direction as the last row you made, pull the second loop through the first; pull the third loop through the second; pull the fourth through the third and so on across to the end of the row. Now you’re back at the side with the working yarn.

Skip the next few loops of the working yarn and cut the yarn. Snip off the loops from the yarn tail. Just snip the loops off, don’t cut through the yarn! Pull the trimmed tail through the last loop and knot.

Back Neck
Pull the second loop through the marked back neck loop and remove the marker; then work across and pull the third loop through the second; pull the fourth through the third and so on until there are only 15 (17, 19) loops remaining (including the last loop just drawn through). These loops are for the second front.

Second Front
Pull out one end of yarn from ball and count out 17 (19, 21) loops.

Row 1: Continuing in same direction as back neck bind-off, take the working yarn behind the remaining 15 (17, 19) loops, insert thumb and forefinger, from front to back, into last loop just drawn up, skip first 2 loops of working yarn for beginning tail, grasp 3rd loop of working yarn and draw it through, *insert thumb and forefinger into next loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through; repeat from * until 15 (17, 19) loops have been drawn through and 2 loops remain unworked for beginning tail.
Continue working in rows on these 15 (17, 19) loops only until the second front measures the same as the back.
Bind off same as first front.

Sleeves
Lay the body flat with the right side (same side that has always been facing up) facing up. Place markers on side edges of fronts and back, about 8 (9, 10) in. (20.5 (23, 25.5) cm) down from back neck.

Pull out one end of yarn from ball and count out 26 (29, 32) loops.

Row 1: Take working yarn behind one side edge, between markers, insert thumb and forefinger, from front to back, into side edge of body near first marker, skip first 2 loops of working yarn for beginning tail, grasp 3rd loop of working yarn and draw it through the body, working towards second marker and spacing the loops as evenly as possible, *insert thumb and forefinger into side edge of body, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through; repeat from * until 24 (27, 30) loops have been drawn through, the last loop is near the second marker and 2 loops remain unworked for beginning tail.

Row 2: Take the working yarn behind previous row of 24 (27, 30) loops. Working back in the opposite direction, insert thumb and forefinger, from front to back, into last loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through, *insert thumb and forefinger into next loop of previous row, grasp next loop of working yarn and draw it through; repeat from * until 24 (27, 30) loops have been drawn through.

Repeat Row 2 until sleeve measures about 18 in. (45.5 cm).
Bind off same as first front.

Repeat along opposite side edge of thebody to make the second sleeve.

FINISHING

Fold fronts over back, matching edges. With smooth yarn threaded into blunt needle, sew side edge of front to side edge of back. Sew sleeve seam.

Carefully snip the remaining loops from each yarn tail. Just snip the loops off, don’t cut through the yarn! Pull each of the trimmed tails through the loops of the Cardigan to secure them.

LION BRAND Wool-Ease DK Cakes Lakeside Afghan

product

SKILL LEVEL – Easy

SIZE: About 37 1/2 x 42 1/2 in. (92 x 108 cm)

MATERIALS
  • Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® DK Cakes (Art. #622)
    • #602 Lakeside 5 cakes
  • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Circular knitting needle size 6 (4 mm), 36 in. (91.5 cm) long

GAUGE
20 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Garter st (knit every st on every row).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

NOTES

  1. Five separate Strips are worked, each in 2 sections. The first section is worked from the lower edge up, then the second section is worked from sts picked up along each long side of Strip.
  2. The Strips are sewn together to make the Afghan, then sts are picked up along the top and lower edges to make the borders.
  3. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle as if working on straight needles.
STRIP (MAKE 5)

Cast on 25 sts

Tip
You can knit multiple Strips at the same time! To knit more than one Strip at a time, cast on with a separate cake of yarn for each Strip, then work each Strip with its own cake of yarn.
To keep the yarn strands untangled, we placed each yarn cake into a ziplock bag, then zipped each bag almost closed, leaving an opening just large enough for the strand of yarn.

FIRST SECTION
Work in Garter st (knit every st on every row) until piece measures about 40 in. (101.5 cm) from beginning.

Note
Strips don’t have a right or wrong side. When you pick up sts to knit the Second Section, you can pick up on either side of the First Section

SECOND SECTION

Tip
To pick up sts evenly spaced, use pins or markers to divide the long edge of the Strip into sections: first, fold Strip in half and mark the center, now divide further into 4 or even 8 sections. If you divided into 4 sections, pick up 50 sts across each section; if you divided into 8 sections, pick up 25 sts across each section.

Pick up and knit 200 sts evenly spaced across one long side edge of Strip.
Knit 11 rows.
Bind off.

Repeat second section along the opposite long side edge of Strip.

FINISHING
Sew the long sides of Strips together.

TOP BORDER
Pick up and knit 188 sts evenly spaced across top edge of Afghan.
Knit 11 rows.
Bind off.

LOWER BORDER
Pick up and knit 188 sts along lower edge of Afghan.
Knit 11 rows.
Bind off.
