2012 NEW PRODUCT RELEASE
A-9050 Integrated Stereo Amplifier

Driving Your Music with Power and Panache

The A-9050 Integrated Stereo Amplifier offers the best of both worlds—classic analog power and the latest in digital audio processing technology. Whether you’re transported by the mellow glow of vinyl, or just want to experience your computer-based library with proper hi-fi sound, this is the amp for you. There are two digital inputs linked to a Wolfson® 192 kHz/24-bit DAC, which allow you to exploit the potential of lossless formats such as WAV. Gold-plated audio terminals and goldplated banana plug-compatible speaker posts ensure a perfect connection for your CD player, tuner, and loudspeakers. However, it’s the sound quality that really puts this amplifier in a league of its own. Our low negative feedback WRAT design breathes energy and vitality into recordings that can otherwise seem lifeless and flat. As well as DIDRC to eliminate digitally generated noise, the amplifier’s Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry boosts current flows and reduces distortion. Plenty of good clean power—and a dash of Japanese audio innovation—has resulted in a stereo amp that’s shaping up to become a new Onkyo classic.

A-9050 Integrated Stereo Amplifier

WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) for Naturally Vivid Sound
Onkyo developed the WRAT suite of technologies to improve the clarity and character of amplified audio. The technologies work to reduce noise across the frequency range, guaranteeing a clear, balanced, and natural sound. It achieves this by employing a low negative feedback amplifier design, preserving the essential energy and life contained within the recording; using closed ground-loops to cancel unwanted noise from individual circuits, and by enabling high current flows to cancel reflex energy from the speakers.

DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry)
Despite being beyond the normal range of human hearing, frequencies above 100 kHz are susceptible to digital clocking-signal pulse and other forms of subtle distortion. Noise in the super-high-frequency range can affect the character or atmosphere of the original sound. Onkyo’s DIDRC technology—formerly only available on its premium audio products—works by reducing distortion in the superhigh-frequency range to deliver clearer-than-ever audio.

Innovative Three-Stage Amplifier Circuit Brings Your Music to Life
While some hi-fi makers take a shortcut to amplified audio with the use of cheap all-in-one IC chips, the resulting sound is compromised once you turn the volume up. Instead, on the A-9050, Onkyo uses the same Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry technology it uses in its high-end A/V receivers and Reference Series hi-fi separates. This innovative circuit topology facilitates high speaker-driving power, reduces distortion, and preserves the buoyancy and expressiveness of recorded music—a unique characteristic of our low negative feedback amplifiers.

Discrete Output Stage Circuitry Means Cooler Running Temperatures
A receiver’s ability to deliver high power into low impedances is a vital factor in its performance. If the current flow through the amplification circuit is inconsistent, audio quality will suffer. Onkyo stereo amplifiers feature separate high-quality components at the signal output stage. Discrete transistors help guarantee a consistent, stable supply of current to the speaker system for an open and assured performance, with less chance of distortion and cooler running temperatures.

Phase-Matched Bass Boost for Deeper Bass and a Clearer Mid-Range
From the warm low notes produced by a cello to the deep frequencies of electronic music, a good amplifier should be able to deliver plenty of bass without distorting. Some amplifiers are prone to the effects of phase shifting, which can overwhelm middle frequencies and muddy the overall sound. Our Phase- Matching Bass Boost technology effectively preserves mid-range clarity—allowing vocals and strings to shine—while maintaining a smooth, natural bass response at all volume levels.

More Digital and Analog Connections
Being a thoroughly modern integrated pre-amp and power amplifier, the A-9050 features 96 kHz/24-bit optical and coaxial inputs which can carry digital audio signals from source devices—such as computers or laptops—for processing by the onboard Wolfson 192 kHz/24-bit DAC. Now you can experience the full potential of high resolution and lossless formats such as WAV. Of course, digital inputs also let you play everything from your computer’s iTunes collection to movie downloads with power and precision beyond anything you’re used to from your PC’s speakers.

High-Output Power Supply to Drive Your Speakers At the heart of all our amplifiers, you’ll find a power supply that can maintain or increase output power as required. Musically, this means that you have deep, powerful bass; wide-ranging dynamics; musical peaks that sound composed; and correct timbre and sound staging. When paired with a set of quality loudspeakers, Onkyo amplifiers have the capability to drive them with ease. In the case of the A-9050, you will find a high-output power transformer, two 10,000 μF capacitors, and low-impedance copper bus bars. All work in concert to enhance the power and fidelity of your audio sources.

Quality Construction Equals Better Performance
A vital factor in any audio component is its build quality. It’s not just about good looks. The build quality of the chassis, the construction techniques used, and the electronic parts chosen all combine to shape the outputted audio signal. To preserve the integrity of the signal and extend component life, we’ve fitted gold-plated RCA terminals and gold-plated, banana plug-compatible speaker posts to the A-9050. To prevent vibration, a 1.6 mm anti-resonant chassis is used to isolate the audio signal from any interference during the amplification process. This rugged chassis is superbly finished with an aluminum front panel and volume control that accentuate the quality of the construction throughout.

Surround yourself in Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X® sound

The HT-S3910 supercharges your Dolby Atmos and DTS:X experience. Object-based audio is mixed in 3D space and lets individual sounds play through any speaker, tracking the action and placing sounds all around you. Dolby Surround® and DTS® Neural:X complement 3D audio playback
These technologies find localization cues in legacy stereo or multichannel soundtracks and upmix these elements to create immersive top-to-bottom dimensionality.

Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer

When playing any Dolby® format, engaging Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer enables a more immersive listening experience, creating a virtual surround and height effect from traditional speaker layouts without employing additional surround or height speakers.
Note: Enabled with a future firmware update.

Elevated sound with DTS Virtual:X™

DTS Virtual:X is a new sound virtualization technology that creates an immersive 3D soundfield from any speaker layout, such as 2.1, 3.1, and 5.1 setups with no need for height, surround, or rear surround speaker connection. It uses DSP-based algorithms to place the audience at the center of a multidimensional soundfield with height and surround spatiality, and is effective in large or small spaces. DTS Virtual:X works with DTS:X, DTS® formats, and non-encoded stereo.

Space-saving speakers pack a punch

Want space-filling sound without speakers dominating the room? The supplied Onkyo system is factory-matched to harmonize with the amp’s unique sound signature. These compact units are pleasingly heavy thanks to large magnets and full-range drivers. Neat size makes for easy placement, even on the wall, while cloth-wrapped baffles protect against curious young fingers. With a small footprint and down-firing 16 cm cone, the powerful 120 W sub can be placed wherever you want—deep bass adds impact to LFEs in games and movies.

Supports new 4K HDR video formats

This receiver has four HDMI® inputs and one ARC-enabled output that support 4K/60p video, HDR formats (HLG, HDR10, Dolby Vision®, and BT.2020), and the ultra-large 4:4:4 color-space. Video passes from player to your 4K HDR-ready TV, while the receiver decodes and amplifies the audio. It’s easy to check your player, receiver, and TV are working in harmony by calling up a new media input-output on-screen display using the remote control.

High current, great sound

Watts seem like the most important number on an amp’s spec sheet. However, they only indicate loudness, not audio quality. Amperes—current—are the secret to good sound.
More current gives a tighter grip on the speaker cones, helping to control their travel with greater precision. Speaker control means faster dynamics, clearer detail, and more life. The HT-S3910 features a High-Current Low-Noise Power Transformer, large custom audio capacitors, and discrete high-current amps that deliver the highest flows of current in their class. Expect rhythmically exciting, energetic sound from any source.

Fix inaudible dialog at the touch of a button

We include a quick and effective function to solve the problem of inaudible dialog in TV programs and movies. DSP-controlled Vocal Enhancer identifies vocal frequencies and allows you to raise or lower them to taste using keys on the remote or via the tone controls on the receiver’s front panel.

Share sound or enjoy privately

Any hi-fi system with an analog RCA input can be connected to the A/V receiver’s Zone B line output. Now you can share audio (including SPDIF and HDMI) to the hi-fi in Zone B, or play in both Main Room and Zone B simultaneously. Alternatively, connect a compatible transmitter and enjoy audio from any A/V source on your wireless headphones.

Simple steps to sweet surround

The HT-S3910 simplifies your home entertainment setup.
Conceal the receiver and players in an entertainment unit.
A single HDMI cable links TV to receiver for a super-clean look. Check the easy-to-follow diagram on the rear panel to hook up the speakers. The process takes moments, enjoyment is limitless.

Bluetooth® wireless technology with Advanced Music Optimizer™

Whatever audio is playing on your phone, tablet, or PC app can be streamed to the receiver with Bluetooth wireless technology. Compressed audio commonly stored on or streamed from smartphones, such as MP3 or AAC, is enhanced by Advanced Music Optimizer, a DSP technology that restores high-frequency bit data for rich, clear sound.

USB power for streaming dongles

A USB terminal on the rear panel powers any media streaming stick plugged into an adjacent HDMI input—great if you don’t have enough power-points.

A-9110 Integrated Stereo Amplifier

Stable high-current power with wide-range amplifiers
Dynamic changes in music cause impedance to fluctuate. If power can’t be delivered when impedance drops, sound quality suffers. Onkyo’s solution is WRAT, specifically its high-output EI transformer, huge custom-made main audio capacitors, and carefully selected high-quality parts. High-current stability controls the speaker-drivers for accurate and assured reproduction of dynamic musical passages. Further, the A-9110 features Onkyo’s time-proven low-negative-feedback amplifier topology that distinguishes the timbral warmth, fullness, and vibrancy of the recording. This circuitry captures a wide frequency spectrum with uncommonly low distortion.
Sounds clearer at low volumes
When playing music at low volume, the signal normally drops close to the component’s noise floor. The signal picks up noise, which is amplified, and the result is muffled sound. To avoid this, the A-9110 features Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, a volume circuit that requires less than half the usual amount of attenuation. The signal never approaches the noise floor, so you can enjoy clearest sound at low volume.

Phase Matching Bass Boost enriches sound at low volume
Most pre-main amps have a loudness button designed to boost low-mid frequency sound. However, conventional designs are prone to phase-shift, which degrades the clarity of the vocal frequency band. Onkyo’s Phase Matching Bass Boost function eliminates phase-shift between low- and mid-range frequency bands above 300 Hz. Bass response is enhanced without compromising vocal clarity, and that’s something especially useful when playing music at low volume where bass and high-frequency sounds are more difficult to hear.
Thick and rigid chassis tames resonance
Every hi-fi component generates electromechanical resonance. This translates into signal noise, and that impacts on the sound coming out of your speakers. To combat the negative effects of vibration, the A-9110 features a rigid metal chassis that’s 1.3 times thicker than the A-9010 at 1.6 mm. Working together with large, wide-spaced insulators, unwanted resonance is virtually eliminated.

Direct Mode brings you closer to the source
Direct Mode bypasses tone and PM Bass circuitries. In combination with a refined amp circuit design, signal-pathlengths have been significantly reduced in comparison to the A-9010 for even more accurate and faithful sound. Enjoy end-to-end analog music reproduction from turntable to speakers, and recapture the atmosphere of the original recording with any connected source.
New fine display shares info clearly
A new display panel boasts fine text resolution, making it easier to read at a distance than single bulbs. It shows active selected input at a glance.
Quality speaker posts make perfect contact
Speaker cables with your choice of the terminal are firmly secured by high-quality speaker binding posts. Each wide-spaced non-magnetic post prevents interference and features a large, easy-to-grip transparent knob.
