DO NOT IMMERSE THE HEATING UNIT OF YOUR RICE COOKER IN WATER OR OTHER LIQUID

Using Your rice cooker

Note : Measuring your rice is of extreme importance. Please do not discard the Oster™ measuring cup included with this unit. This is a “rice cooker” measuring cup, not a standard U.S. measuring cup. One rice cup of the Oster™ measuring cup included with this unit is equal to 5.33 ounces of uncooked rice. The rice cooker is capable of cooking up to 5 full “rice cooker” Oster™ measuring cups of uncooked rice, or 10 (5.33oz) Oster™ cups of cooked rice. Do not use instant rice with this unit.

  1. Measure the amount of rice you would like to cook.
  2. Wash the measured rice in a separate bowl until water is clear.
  3. Place rice in the INNER POT and add the corresponding amount of water. For example, if you are making 5 Oster™ cups of uncooked rice, add water after adding rice to the “5” mark on the inner bowl.
NOTE: Brown rice will take longer to cook than white rice.
  4. Set the INNER POT into the rice cooker. Make sure that the INNER POT is in direct contact with the heating BASE by turning it slightly from left to right until it properly fits onto the heating BASE.
NOTE: Make sure the outside of the inner pot is completely dry before placing it onto the heating plate.
  5. Cover with the LID.
WARNING: Do not operate this appliance uncovered—steam is generated during use that could cause burns or another serious injury.
  6. Plug the cord into a 120 Volt AC electrical outlet. Switch the rice cooker ON by pushing the button down. Make sure the COOK indicator light is illuminated. Steaming will begin shortly.
  7. The switch will pop up and the KEEP WARM indicator light will come on when all the water in the RICE COOKER has evaporated. NOTE: You may need to add more water and set the rice cooker to COOK more than once depending on your own personal tastes.
  8. After cooking, the KEEP WARM indicator light will illuminate. For best results, let the rice stand for 10-15 minutes of steaming without removing the LID. Carefully open the LID, taking care to avoid escaping steam. Use the RICE LADLE, or another long-handled utensil, to mix the rice well to allow steam to escape.
    Do Not Use Metal Utensils.
CAUTION: Steam will escape. Do not touch the INNER POT or heating unit until they have cooled.
  9. Allow the appliance to cool completely and unplug before cleaning.
  10. Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet when not in use.

Cooking Hints

  • Rinse rice – Bran gives an unpleasant smell to cooked rice. Be sure to rinse rice thoroughly. Rinsing with water effectively removes bran quickly and thoroughly.

NOTE: Some rice suppliers suggest not rinsing rice because vitamins may be lost.

  • After use, wash the INNER POT and LID in warm, soapy water.
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Do not keep the rice cooker in operation:
    • When there is only a small amount of rice left in the POT.
    • When rice ladle is inside the rice cooker.
    • To warm up cold rice.
DO NOT let water in the INNER POT boil dry.

How To Use Your Steaming Basket

  1. Clean and prepare your food or vegetables.
  2. Place the INNER POT in the BASE. The length of steaming time is subject to your own personal tastes: depending if you prefer al denté (crunchy) or more well done steamed vegetables.
  3. Measure appropriate amount of water and add to INNER POT. NOTE: You are able to steam rice and vegetables/food at the same time with the STEAMING BASKET resting on the INNER POT.
  4. Place the STEAMING BASKET on the rim of the INNER POT.
  5. Add vegetables or food and put the LID onto the appliance. Switch to COOK position for the appropriate time as shown in the chart on page 8.
  6. Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet.
    VEGETABLE COOKING TIME
    ASPARAGUS 8 – 10 MIN
    BEAN SPROUTS 3 – 4 MIN
BEANS: GREEN, WAX, FRENCH CUT 8 – 10 MIN
    BROCCOLI 11 -13 MIN
    BRUSSELS SPROUTS 11 -13 MIN
    CABBAGE, SHREDDED 6 – 8 MIN

    COLLARD GREENS, SPINACH 6 – 11 MIN
    MUSHROOMS (FRESH, SLICED) 3 – 4 MIN
    PEA PODS 4 – 6 MIN
    SQUASH (ACORN, BUTTERNUT) 13 – 16 MIN
    ZUCCHINI 10 – 12 MIN
  • Altitude affects the temperature at which water boils and thus the cooking time. It’s especially true at high altitudes where longer cooking times are necessary. We have outlined a general guide to follow. Test for desired consistency when cooking times indicated have been reached. As you cook with this appliance, adapt times and measurements to your own personal tastes.

How To Use Your Steaming Basket While Cooking Rice

  1. Follow steps 1-4 under the HOW TO USE YOUR RICE COOKER.
  2. Place the STEAMING BASKET on the rim of the INNER POT.
  3. Add food to the STEAMING BASKET and put the LID on the appliance. Switch to COOK position for the appropriate time as shown in the chart.
NOTE: Use the STEAMING TIME Guide to
determine when to add food to the STEAMING BASKET. Cooking 10 Oster® measuring cups of finished rice takes approximately 35 minutes. Most vegetables can be added about 10 minutes before rice has finished cooking. Rice cooking times can vary depending on the type of rice being cooked and preferred rice texture. Adjust steaming time as desired. Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet

Cleaning icon

This appliance should be cleaned after every use.

  1. Unplug the rice cooker when not in use and before cleaning. Never immerse HEATING UNIT, cord or plug in water or any other liquids. Allow the RICE COOKER to cool completely
    before cleaning.
NOTE: Use the RICE LADLE or wooden utensil to stir and remove food from the INNER POT. DO NOT use metal utensils.
  2. To clean the HEATING UNIT, lightly wipe the exterior with a damp cloth or sponge. Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
  3. The INNER POT is coated with a non-stick coating to make clean up easier. To clean, remove the INNER POT from the rice cooker and fill with hot water from the tap. Let it sit for a while and then wash with hot soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  4. The inner pot , lid , rice ladle and measuring cup are
    dishwasher safe.
  5. Make sure that the grains of rice do not stick to the heating plate in the bottom of the heating base. If this occurs, remove immediately. If grains of rice are stuck onto the heating plate, a non-abrasive pad can be used to remove it. Polish the area for good contact between the heating plate , and the bottom of the INNER POT.
NOTE: Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or steel
wool to clean the RICE COOKER
  6. Do not use bleach, vinegar or other harsh chemicals to clean
    the RICE COOKER.

FOOD STEAMER FEATURES

BEFORE THE FIRST USE

  • Remove any labels or stickers from the appliance.
  • Thoroughly wash lid, rice bowl, upper steaming bowl, lower steaming bowl, drip tray and heating element sleeve in warm, soapy water before first use, then rinse and dry carefully. The heating element sleeve must be installed around the heating element for proper operation.
  • Wipe the inside of the water reservoir with a damp cloth.

INSTANT STEAM FUNCTION

Included is a removable heating element sleeve. Before cooking, when this sleeve is placed around the heating element, the steam function will automatically produce steam in 35 seconds. Do not operate the steamer without the heating element sleeve.

REMOVABLE HEATING ELEMENT SLEEVE

PLEASE NOTE: The heating element sleeve may be removed to allow cleaning of the heating element. On the heating element sleeve, there is a small indentation (cut) which should face downward when replaced on the heating element.

FILLING WATER RESERVOIR

USING YOUR STEAMER

Place the unit on a flat, sturdy surface with adequate clearance (i.e., do not place under wall cabinets). The steamer unit and components are not for use in ovens (microwave, convection, or conventional) or on the stovetop.

(Step 1A) Fill the water reservoir with clean water only. Do not put any other liquids or add any salt, pepper, etc., in the water reservoir. Make sure the water does not exceed the HI fill level or go lower than the LO fill level as indicated inside the water reservoir. Then place the drip tray on the base. (Step 1B)

DRIP TRAY

Or you can fill the water reservoir from the water inlet. There are MAX and MIN lines on the water box to indicate the water level. Even while food is still cooking, if the water box shows that the water level is low, you can add water accordingly to the water inlet without moving any of the steaming bowls. (Step 2)
NOTE: WATER SHOULD NEVER GO LOWER THAN LO (MIN) LINE.

WATER INLET

TO USE UPPER OR LOWER STEAMING BOWL

(Step 3) Place vegetable, seafood, or other foods without sauce or liquid into the steaming bowl. Arrange food in the center of the bowl. Try not to block steam vents. You can use the lower steaming bowl as an egg tray by directly placing a total of 8 eggs on it. (Egg holding steaming tray not available on Model 5709).

UPPER OR LOWER STEAMING BOWLS

FOR DOUBLE TIER OR THREE TIER STEAMER

Place the largest piece of food with the longest cooking time in the lower steaming bowl. Place the lower bowl on top of drip tray and base. Place the upper steaming bowl on top of the base unit, or you can place the upper steaming bowl directly on top of the lower steaming bowl. (Upper steaming tray not available on Model 5709).

Cooking times are estimates and depend on the quantity, size, required degree of cooking, and temperature of food. Consider all the cooking time given in the following guide as suggested times for double-tier steamer.

When handling and removing hot components, use POTHOLDERS to avoid burns from hot steam.

MULTI-TIERED STEAMING

USING THE RICE BOWL

Place rice or other foods with sauce or liquid in a rice bowl. Place rice bowl in the lower steaming bowl and cover with the lid. Plug into wall outlet and set timer. When food is well cooked, unplug the unit.

RICE BOWL

TIMER SETTING (Maximum 75 Minutes)
Set the timer to the recommended cooking time (steaming times can be adjusted as per your experiment). The light turns on and steam comes in 35 seconds. The light will turn off when cooking is completed and the timer will give a signal bell.

CARE AND CLEANING

  • Unplug the cord from the outlet. Before cleaning, allow the Steamer to cool.
  • Never immerse the Base, Cord, or Plug-in water.
  • Empty the drip tray and the water reservoir. If there is a small amount of water remaining inside the water box, you can just turn the unit upside down and water will come out from the water inlet.
  • Wash lid, steaming bowl, rice bowl, and drip tray in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry all parts, or wash on the top rack of the dishwasher.
  • Clean reservoir with soapy water then wipes with a damp cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners
  • The lower steaming bowl and the rice bowl can be stored inside the upper steaming bowl with the lid on top.
  • In hard water areas, the scale may build up on the heating element. If the scale is allowed to accumulate, the steam could turn off before the food is cooked. So, after 7-10 uses, pour 3 cups clear vinegar into the water reservoir then fill with water up to the HI level. Do not place lid, steaming bowl, rice bowl, and drip tray in this procedure.
  • Plugin and set the timer to 20 minutes. When the timer rings, unplug the cord from the outlet. Allow the unit to cool completely before emptying the water reservoir. Use cold water to rinse the water reservoir several times.

REHEATING: BREADS AND LEFTOVERS

  1. Do not wrap or cover when reheating bread.
  2. For leftovers, reheating times are based on foods at refrigerator temperatures.
  3. When reheating leftovers in the rice bowl, always spread leftovers evenly in RICE BOWL and use aluminum foil to cover.
  4. Experiment with your own leftovers.

Vegetables

  1. Clean the vegetables thoroughly. Cut off stems; trim, peel or chop if necessary. Smaller pieces steam faster than larger ones.
  2. Quantity, quality, freshness, size/uniformity, and temperature of frozen food may affect steam timing. Adjust water amounts and cooking time as desired.
  3. Frozen vegetables should not be thawed before steaming.
  4. Some frozen vegetables should be placed in the rice bowl and covered with a piece of aluminum foil during steaming. The frozen foods should be separated or stirred after 10-12 minutes. Use a long-handled fork or spoon to separate or stir foods.

Fish and Seafood

  1. The steaming times listed in the chart are for fresh, frozen, or fully thawed seafood and fish. Before steaming, clean and prepare fresh seafood and fish.
  2. Most fish and seafood cook very quickly. Steam in small portions or in amounts as specified.
  3. Clams, oysters, and mussels may open at different times. Check the shells to avoid overcooking.
  4. You may steam fish fillets in the RICE BOWL. Serve steamed seafood and fish plain or use seasoned butter or margarine, lemon or favorite sauces.
  5. Adjust steaming times accordingly.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY

North American models with polarized plugs:

POLARIZED PLUG
This appliance has a polarized plug, (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature or modify the plugin anyway. If the plug fits loosely into the AC outlet or if the AC outlet feels warm do not use that outlet.

POWER CORD INSTRUCTIONS:

A short power-supply cord or detachable power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used:
a. The marked electrical rating of the cord set or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance;
b. The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally; and
c. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the cord set or extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord.
Do not pull, twist, or otherwise abuse the power cord.

NOTICES

  1. Some countertop and table surfaces are not designed to withstand the prolonged heat generated by certain appliances. Do not set the heated unit on a finished wood table. We recommend placing a hot pad or trivet under your countertop oven to prevent possible damage to the surface.
  2. During initial use of this appliance, some slight smoke and/or odor may be detected. This is normal with many heating appliances and will not recur after a few uses.

KNOW YOUR DEEP FRYER

PREPARING YOUR FRYER FOR USE

Prior to first use, remove all packaging materials from the exterior and interior of the fryer. Make sure the fryer is unplugged. Wash the Frying Basket and removable Oil Reservoir in hot soapy water. Gently wipe the Heating Element with a damp cloth. Dry all parts thoroughly. See the Care and Cleaning section for details.

CAUTION: Do not immerse cord, plugs or control panel assembly in water.

BASKET HANDLE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Remove Handle and Frying Basket from inside the deep fryer.
  2. Notice the eyelets on the interior side of the basket.
  3. Squeeze the handle prongs in the middle.
  4. Release the prongs into the eyelets on the interior side of the basket.
  5. Press firmly down on the handle to lock in place.

TIPS FOR DEEP FRYING

  • Fill the unit with oil between the maximum and minimum capacity lines only.
  • Do not over fill the basket. To achieve quality results deep frying food needs to be surrounded by oil. Too much food causes the oil temperature to drop, resulting in “soggy” food. Food should be no higher than the top of the basket.
  • Be sure that all ice crystals are removed from the food and food is completely dry. Excessive water and ice can cause the oil to splatter and/ or overflow.
  • Coated foods (bread crumbs, batters, etc.) are best for deep frying. The coating acts as a protective layer keeping food moist on the inside and crisp on the outside.
  • For best results, defrost frozen foods for 20 minutes prior to frying.
  • Fry foods at the correct temperature for best results. This will prevent burning and give you even colored, crispy food.
  • Prepackaged frozen, cooked chicken, may cook faster than uncooked food.
  • For even cooking, shake basket half way through cooking time.

HOW TO USE YOUR DEEP FRYER

CAUTION: Never turn on the fryer with an empty Oil Reservoir. Always use your fryer on a flat, heat resistant surface.

  • Attach magnetic end of cord assembly directly to the fryer (See Figure 1). This should be done prior to plugging the cord into the wall outlet.

  • The magnetic end of the cord is designed to only go on one way. Be sure the side stating “THIS SIDE UP” is facing up.
  • Remove Frying Basket by pulling the Basket Handle up.
  • Make sure the Oil Reservoir is seated in place. Pour cooking oil into Oil Reservoir until it reaches between “MIN” and “MAX” marks inside reservoir.
DO NOT OVER OR UNDER FILL.
  • Make sure that fryer is OFF and insert plug into 120 volt AC outlet.
  • Turn fryer to desired temperature position.
  • Turn Timer knob to “ON” position. Power Light will turn on.
  • Ready light will turn on when oil is pre-heated. Remove the lid and place Frying Basket onto basket hook inside Oil Reservoir.
  • Place food inside Frying Basket (Do not over stack food). Lower Frying Basket into Oil Reservoir. CAUTION: Always replace Lid after immersing food in oil.
  • Turn timer knob to desired time.
  • After time is up a bell with sound and the power and power light will turn off. Remove the lid and lift Frying Basket and hang basket onto basket hook in Oil Reservoir. To remove excess grease and retain crispness, let food drain in Frying Basket at least 10–20 seconds. Then lift Frying Basket by handle and pour contents onto plate covered with paper towels before serving.
  • When finished cooking, make sure fryer is in OFF position.

WARNING: DO NOT USE THE DETACHABLE MAGNETIC CORD SYSTEM TO
DISCONNECT THE FRYER. ALWAYS DISCONNECT PLUG FROM WALL OUTLET
FIRST TO DISCONNECT FRYER.

Use only Model #MI-10/15 magnetic cord set with this product. The use of any other magnetic cord set may cause fire, electric shock, or injury.

CAUTION: The detachable magnetic cord is only for accidental disconnection and not to be removed during normal operation. If the cord becomes disconnected, the user should immediately unplug the cord set from the wall outlet, then reconnect the magnetic cord to the deep fryer and then to the wall outlet.

TO REMOVE AND REPLACE LID

  • Remove Lid by pulling firmly upwards. Reverse the sequence to secure Lid from the vertical position to secure back in place.

NOTE: Always remove Lid before emptying the Oil Reservoir or cleaning.

CAUTION: Ensure that Lid is in place prior to operation of unit.

FRYING TIME AND TEMPERATURE

The frying times in this chart are a guide and should be adjusted to suit the different quantities or thickness of food and to suit your own taste. Preheat time is 7–10 minutes for fryer to reach desired temperature. (Ready light will cycle On/Off during frying as temperature fluctuates due to food load.)

NOTE: Prepackaged frozen cooked chicken may cook faster than above time.

TIPS FOR OIL USE AND STORAGE

  • Do not use seasoned or flavored oil such as walnut, olive oil, lard or drippings because they have a low smoke point. Use blended vegetable oil, pure corn oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil or grape seed oil (canola oil) because these oils have a high smoke point. Peanut oil is not recommended because it impacts the flavor greatly.
  • Oils should never be mixed when deep frying.
  • High heat, water and burnt food particles break down the oil’s smoke point.
  • Replace oil if you notice:
  • Excessive smoking at normal temperatures
    – Strong oil discoloration
    – A rancid smell
    – Excessive foaming around the frying food
  • Oil darkens with use because the oil and food molecules burn when subjected to high/prolonged heat. The more you use an oil, the more slowly it will pour. Its viscosity changes because of changes to the oil’s molecular structure. When smoke appears on the oils’ surface before the temperature reaches 375°F/190°C, your oil will no longer deep-fry effectively.
  • When frying foods with strong flavor and/or aroma like fish or chicken, use the oil only once.
  • Filtering the oil with a cooking oil filter or fine-mesh strainer can keep it fresher. Although storing oil in a refrigerator may extend the life of the oil, this should never be done. This process of chilling oil then bringing the oil to room temperature causes excessive splattering during the heat up process.
  • Store the covered oil in a cool dark place, for up to three months. Check the oil before using for color, smell, or excessive foaming. Discard the oil if it shows any of these qualities.

RESETTING THE OVERHEAT PROTECTION BUTTON

Resetting the Overheat Protection Reset Button may be necessary if unit will not turn on at start up (power indicator light illuminated and temperature dial set to selected temperature) or if unit appears to have stopped working during use.

  1. Unplug the unit from the wall electrical outlet.
  2. Allow the unit to cool down.
  3. Check the oil level in your unit. If it is below the minimum level, oil should be added before resetting the unit and resuming cooking cycle.
  4. Remove the control box with heater.
  5. Using a narrow slotted screwdriver or pen, gently press the recessed reset button on the back of the control box, located on the lower right hand side as indicated by the arrow. (see Figure 2)

TROUBLE SHOOTING

CARE AND CLEANING

WARNING: Always turn control to OFF then disconnect plug from wall outlet. Remove cord from appliance.

CAUTION:

  • Do not immerse cord sets in water or any liquids
  • Do not attempt to defeat the detachable magnetic Cord system by trying to permanently attach cord set to product.
  • Do not stick pins or other sharp objects in holes on magnetic cord set.
  • Do not use any type of steel wool to clean magnetic contacts.
  • Turn unit OFF.
  • Unplug from outlet and allow unit to cool completely.
  • Remove magnetic cord from the fryer socket.
  • Remove the Lid.
  • Open the Filter Cover and remove the Filters.
  • Remove Frying Basket. Wash the Frying Basket with hot soapy water. Rinse and towel dry carefully.
  • Carefully lift Oil Reservoir straight up out of the exterior housing by holding the rim of the bowl. Empty cooking oil and store in an air tight container. See TIPS FOR OIL USE AND STORAGE. Oil Reservoir is dishwasher safe.
WARNING: Do not remove Oil Reservoir until the unit has cooled and is unplugged.
  • The Basket, Lid, Oil Reservoir and Housing are dishwasher safe. Dry all parts thoroughly after cleaning.
  • The Control Panel should never be immersed in water or other liquids. Gently clean the outer surface of the Control Panel with a damp cloth containing mild soap solution or plain water.
  • Ensure that both the Lid and Oil Reservoir are completely dry after washing and before use.
  • Insert Oil Reservoir back into housing.
  • Place Basket into Oil Reservoir.
  • Put Filters back into Lid and put Cover on.
  •  Place lid on top.

REPLACING AND CLEANING FILTERS

  • Open the Filter Cover, and remove filters.
  • Grease Filters may be washed in hot soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.

HOW TO USE YOUR OSTER® WAFFLE MAKER

PREPARING YOUR WAFFLE MAKER FOR USE

  1. Open unit by lifting the upper handle.
  2. Before using for the first time, clean cooking plates with a cloth or sponge dampened with hot, soapy water. DO NOT IMMERSE UNIT IN WATER. Rinse with dampened cloth or sponge and wipe dry.
  3. When using for the first time, “season” the grids by rubbing lightly with cooking oil. Should sticking occur in later usage, re-season your unit.

Preparing waffles

  1. Close unit and plug into outlet. Use only voltage specified on the bottom of unit. The On light (Red) () will come on. The Ready to Cook light (Green) () will come on immediately when in the OFF () position. Caution: Touch unit only by handles during use or directly after use.
  2. Temperature Control Dial settings range from min for light waffles to the max for dark waffles. The Ready to Cook light (Green) () will turn off while heating up.
  3. The unit is ready for use when the Ready to Cook light () comes on.
  4. Open unit and pour approximately ¾ cup of waffle batter onto grids. For best results, pour batter in a circle around outer edge of waffle maker. (See Illustration) Close cover. It is very typical to have a small amount of batter run over grid and down unit. However, if an excessive amount of batter runs over, use less batter.
  5. The cover will rise slightly as waffles begin to bake. Do not open cover while steam is escaping. Most waffle recipes bake in approximately 5 minutes on the low setting, 4-½ minutes on the medium setting and 4 minutes on the high setting. Waffles are generally done when steam no longer escapes from sides and front of unit.
  6. When waffles are done, remove with a plastic fork or wooden tongs. note: The Ready to Cook light () may cycle on and off during cooking. This indicates that the thermostat is maintaining the unit at the proper cooking temperature.
  7. Close cover and wait for Ready to Cook light to come on before preparing another batch of waffles.

Care anD CleaninG

  1. Unplug and allow unit to cool before cleaning.
  2. Clean waffle grids with cloth or sponge dampened with hot, soapy water. DO NOT IMMERSE UNIT IN WATER. Rinse with dampened cloth or sponge and wipe dry.
  3. To remove cooked-on foods, use a nylon scrub pad or a non-abrasive cleanser. A steel wool pad or abrasive cleaners will damage the non-stick surface.
  4. Store in the closed position.
  5. Any servicing required should be performed only by an authorized service facility.
  6. This appliance is for household use only.

hints for tasty waffles

  1. Do not over-mix waffle batter. Beating egg whites separately and folding them gently into the batter surely will create a lighter, crispier waffle.
  2. Completely bake waffles before removing from the unit.
  3. Don’t open the Waffle Maker while steam is escaping from the sides and front of the unit.
  4. Why not freeze-prepared waffles for those busy days ahead? Just bake the waffles as directed. Cool on a wire rack and wrap in moisture-proof paper or plastic. Quickly reheat in your toaster oven, broiler or microwave oven.

FAQS

I’ve only used this waffle iron twice. Both times the temperature dial gets so hot I can barely touch it to adjust the shade. Is this normal?

This waffle maker is not designed to overheat at all. Call us at (800) 334-0759, and we will help get to the bottom of this for you.

Can it be stored vertically?

Yes, you will be fine vertically storing your waffle maker away.

So i am going to bake kodiak cakes and i wanted to know how much batter i should poor to fill out all edges?

Do not buy it. I poured like enough to make a fully rounded waffle and the waffle maker just burnt out and stopped working. And another thing, I got it fixed and I tired again…the bottom of the waffle was black and the top was soft. Right now I want my money back.

How many years does this waffle maker last?

Well my daughter took it out of the box and made one waffle! Tried to make another minutes later and it was dead. Total piece of junk. Don’t buy

what is diameter of waffle?

Once cooked, the waffles are about 7 inches in diameter.

What kind of non stick surface is the interior? What kind of chemicals? Are they potentially carcinogenic?

It’s PTFE AKA Teflon. It was likely made with PFOA or a similar but less-tested pollutant (GenX). The main danger is that it will produce toxic gases if heated empty, like all Teflon cookware. The appliance itself will probably not be carcinogenic in practice but the creation of it probably was.

will it work for 220 volt wiring?

This appliance, in the same model, is offered in Latinoamerica too. So it should work at 220 V too

Does it brown the waffles evenly?

No. Center was cooked but the outer edges were cooked only about half as much. The bottom cooked much faster than the top. I had tri-colored waffles; batter color, golden brown, dark crispy brown. Definitely covers all aspects of done.

Is the power suitable for 220 v?

Designed for 120V. I would say no.

What is the wattage?

This model is 1,080 watts. Enjoy fresh, homemade Belgian waffles anytime with this easy to use waffle maker!

how thick are the waffles?

This waffle makes waffles that are approximately 1″ thick. Top them with fruit or syrup for a delicious meal any time of the day!

I used the 3/4 cup amount of batter as per instructions and much of it squeezed out the side onto my counter. How much batter should I use?

Oh no! For best results, we recommend you pour the batter in a circle around the outer edge of waffle maker. For additional guidance, feel free to give us a call at (800) 334-0579. You can reach us between the hours of 9AM-6PM EST Monday-Friday.

Does this work and cook waffles evenly?

Thanks for contacting Oster®. Yes, it does cook waffles evenly as the Oster Belgian Waffle Maker is designed to create and enjoy great-tasting waffles. We hope this helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us directly so we can further assist you. Have a great day!

Can you flip it upside down?

Although the CKSTWF2000 Belgian waffle maker doesn’t flip, it makes deep pocket waffles on either side.

how do i turn completely off so the red light goes off.?

The red light comes on when it is turn on ,go off as it heats up when it is ready for the batter the green light comes on.
Please note, the green light go out when the waffle is done baking.

Why are only half my waffles cooking?

It may be the amount of mix that is put in. I notice that happens to me if I put less than what is needed.

FAQs About Turbo Convection Heat

What is Turbo Convection Heat?
Answer: In your Convection Oven with Pizza Drawer there is a built in fan that circulates the hot air in the oven chamber cooking your food faster and more evenly.
How do I adjust the time for Turbo Convection?
Answer: On average, the Turbo function will shorten the cooking time, but it varies by food. It is suggested to go with a shorter cooking time to start with and then add time if it is needed.
What are the best foods to use with Turbo?
Answer: While a shorter cook time is often desirable, baked goods in particular benefit from Turbo cooking as the circulating air keeps oven temperature consistent throughout.

To Use the Turbo Convection Heat Function (See Fig. 10)

The Turbo Convection Heat Function turns on a built in fan that circulates hot air in the oven chamber cooking your food faster and more evenly. Preheat oven 5-7 minutes at desired temperature with oven rack in place.
Step 1. Place baking pan with food inside on wire rack.
Step 2. Close glass door completely.
Step 3. Turn the Function dial to Turbo.
Step 4. Turn the Temperature dial to desired setting.
Step 5. Turn the Timer to desired cook time.
NOTE: If cook time is less than 20 minutes, you must turn Timer past the 20 minute mark to engage the timer then back to desired time.
Step 6. When baking is complete, open door completely and remove food.
CAUTION: Cooked food and metal rack can be very hot, handle with care. Do not leave unit unattended.

To Use the Pizza Drawer Function (See Fig. 11)

The dedicated Pizza Drawer is ideal for 12-inch pizzas, bruschetta, appetizers, quesadillas and more.
When using the Pizza Function, you will be using the dedicated Pizza Drawer located in the lower part of the Convection Oven. Preheat according to pizza box instructions.
While the Pizza Drawer is in use, the upper oven will not turn on due to wattage constraints; however the residual heat can conveniently serve as a plate or food warmer.
Step 1. Fold out both pizza tray handles.
Step 2. Pull the pizza tray out of the unit.
Step 3. Place pizza tray on a clean flat surface and place the pizza on it. Make sure pizza is centered and not past any edges of the pizza tray.
Step 4. While holding the handles together, insert the pizza tray back into the pizza drawer.
Step 5. Turn the Function dial to Pizza. The oven will automaticlly be preset at the default temperature for optimal cooking performance.
Step 6. Turn the Timer to desired cook time.
NOTE: If cook time is less than 20 minutes, you must turn Timer past the 20 minute mark to engage the timer then back to desired time.
NOTE: Cooking times for the pizza may vary and it might vary from box instrutions. Cooking times might be less than that in the pizza box instructions. Monitor closely first time you use it to adjust time accordingly.
Step 7. Leave handles in the folded out position. Only the pizza tray handles are cool to the touch.
Step 8. When completed, use handles to pull the pizza tray out of the pizza drawer.
CAUTION: Cooked food and metal rack can be very hot, handle with care. Do not leave unit unattended.
Step 9. Place pizza tray on top of a heat resistant surface and carefully remove pizza.

To Use The Timer And Stay On Feature (See Fig. 12)

After rotating the Temperature Dial to your desired temperature, then you must select from the following options on the Timer Dial. Pizza drawer does not require the temperature to be set, but will function with “stay on”.

  • For items requiring shorter cooking times, rotate the Timer Dial clockwise to the desired time. At the sound of the bell, the oven will automatically turn “Off.”
  • For longer cooking times, rotate the Timer Dial counterclockwise to the “Stay On” setting. Cooking will continue until the Timer Dial is manually turned to the “Off” position and the bell will sound.

Positioning Rack

  • Before removing the rack allow the unit to cool.
  • To remove the rack, open the oven door and pull the rack towards the front of the oven. The rack will slide on the rack guides on the inside of the oven.
NOTE: the oven rack may tilt downward causing food to shift when the rack is pulled out, proceed with caution.
  • Positioning of the oven rack will depend on the size of the food and desired browning. Move the rack to the lower rack position to prevent top browning and move the rack to the upper rack position to prevent bottom burning.

Positioning Pan

  • To accommodate a wide variety of foods the oven has two pan positions.
The pan can be placed on top of the rack or inserted into the guide rails below the rack. (See Figure Below)

in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord may be used if care is exercised in its use.
If an extension cord is used, the electrical rating of the cord must be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.

For Products Purchased in the United States and Canada Only
To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug fits a polarized outlet only one way; if the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Without Liquid:
use pulse button until you achieve desired results.
With Liquid: Add desired amount of ice cubes and water until ice floats. Blend on High until you achieve desired results then strain off water.

Working with Hot Foods or Liquids

WARNING: When you work with HOT FOODS, remove the filler cap to vent steam. Tilt the lid away from you partially covering the opening. Keep hands and other exposed skin away from the lid opening to prevent possible burns.

WARNING :When you work with HOT LIQUIDS, remove the filler cap and start at a low speed, and then gradually increase to a faster speed. Do not add liquid over the 4 cup (1L) level. Always keep hands away from steam.

Keep S Blade and Disk out of the reach of children. Store the S Blade and Disk in the Bowl or in a convenient, safe location when not in use. This Blade and Disk should be treated with the same caution as a sharp knife.

Remove stains caused by processing large amounts of carrots or similar vegetables with baking soda. Rinse stained parts in water and sprinkle with baking soda. Rub with a soft, damp cloth. Rinse and dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners on any parts.

Maintenance

This unit is designed with a safety interlock. The interlock requires that the Cover be in place before the blade will rotate. (The interlock does not control operation of the Motor.) To ensure that the interlock is operating correctly, hold the Adaptor and rotate the Drive Shaft several turns. The metal Star Drive on the bottom of the Adaptor should NOT turn. If it does turn, DO NOT USE. Return the unit to an authorized service facility for repair. DO NOT USE THE INTERLOCK FEATURE AS A SUBSTITUTE for turning the power unit “OFF” and unplugging the power unit before disassembling and cleaning. Never put S Blade on Adaptor without Processor Bowl. Do not operate if the flexible seal is damaged or missing. The safety interlock could become jammed.

Processing Tips

  1. Cut all fruits and vegetables, cooked meats, fish, seafoods and cheeses into pieces 1 inch or smaller.
  2. Do not exceed the quantities indicated in the Food Processing Charts.
  3. Always hold hand firmly on the Cover when starting and running Motor.
  4. Do not process hot liquids or frozen foods.
  5. Do not process whole spices (except peppercorns) such as nutmeg or cinnamon. They may cause damage to the surface of the Processor Bowl.
  6. Process the hardest foods first, using only a few Fast Pulses to begin chopping. Add more delicate foods and continue to process using the Fast Pulse technique. The harder foods will continue to be chopped along with the softer foods.
  7. Processing of Parmesan cheese, dried dates or other extremely hard foods is not recommended. If a knife cannot easily pierce the food, it should NOT be processed in the Food Processor Accessory.
  8. The Food Processor Accessory is not designed to whip cream, whip egg whites or process dough. Use a standard mixer for those tasks.
  9. If liquid leaks from Cover, there is too much liquid in the recipe. Adjust the liquid level to prevent leakage.
  10. The temperature of cheese will affect how it processes. Cheese for spreads should be at room temperature for a smooth, creamy texture. “Grated” cheese should be refrigerator cold.
  11. Large, harder pieces of food can be processed with several Fast Pulses to coarsely chop. Then process continuously for a fine texture.

Only the “Food Chop/Salsa” Pre-Programmed setting is functional when Food processor is attached.

To Convert a Recipe

  1. Total the amount of dry and liquid ingredients. If the total exceeds 5 cups, decide if the recipe can be made easily in batches. Do not attempt to process large recipes.
  2. If total is under 1 cup (250 ml), process dry ingredients or the most finely chopped foods first.
  3. Then add remaining ingredients and combine with several Fast Pulses to mix together.

  1.  Read all instructions before using the microwave.
  2. Read and follow the specific “PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXPOSURE OR EXCESSIVE MICROWAVE ENERGY” on page 3.
  3. This microwave must be grounded. Connect only to properly grounded outlets. See page 4 for grounding instructions.
  4.  Install or place this microwave only in accordance with installation instructions.
  5. Some products such as whole eggs and sealed containers – for example, closed glass jars – are able to explode and should not be heated in this oven.
  6. This microwave is intended for use only as described in this manual. Do not use corrosive chemicals or vapors in this microwave. This type of microwave is specifically designed to heat, cook, or dry foods. It is not designed for laboratory use.
  7. As with any appliance, close supervision is necessary when used by children.
  8.  To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity:
•Do not overcook food. Carefully attend to the microwave when paper, plastic, or other combustible materials are placed inside the microwave to facilitate cooking.
•Remove wire twist-ties from paper or plastic bags before placing them in the microwave.
•If materials inside the microwave should ignite, keep the microwave door closed, turn it off, and disconnect the power cord or turn off the power fuse at the circuit breaker panel.
•Do not use the microwave cavity for storage purposes. Do not leave paper products, cooking utensils, or food in the cavity when not in use.
  9. Liquids, such as water, coffee, or tea, may overheat beyond the boiling point without appearing to be boiling due to the surface tension of the liquid. Visible bubbling or boiling when the container is removed from the microwave is not always present. THIS COULD RESULT IN VERY HOT LIQUIDS SUDDENLY BOILING OVER WHEN A SPOON OR ANOTHER UTENSIL IS INSERTED INTO THE LIQUID. To reduce the risk of injury:
    •Do not overheat the liquid;
    •Stir the liquid both before and halfway through heating;
    •Do not use straight-sided containers with narrow necks;
    •After heating, allow the container to stand in the microwave a short time before removing;
•Use extreme care when inserting a spoon or other utensil into the container.
  10. Do not heat oil or fat for deep frying in this microwave. It is difficult to control the temperature of oil in the microwave.
  11.  Pierce foods with heavy skins, such as potatoes, before cooking.
  12. The contents of feeding bottles and baby jars should be stirred or shaken and the temperature should be checked before serving to avoid burns.
  13.  Cooking utensils may become hot from heat transferred from the heated food. Potholders may be needed to handle these utensils.
  14.  Do not cover or block any openings on the microwave.
  15.  Do not store or use this microwave outdoors. Do not use this microwave near water, for example, near a kitchen sink, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, or a similar location.
  16.  Do not operate this microwave if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has been damaged or dropped.
  17. Do not immerse the cord or plug in water. Keep cord away from heated surfaces. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter.
  18. Use only thermometers specifically designed for microwaves.
  19. Do not operate any heating or cooking under this microwave.
  20. Be certain the glass tray and roller rings are in place when using the microwave.
  21. When cleaning the microwave surface and door, use only mild, nonabrasive soaps or detergents applied with a sponge or soft cloth.
  22.  This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:
•Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
•Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.

COOKING UTENSILS GUIDE

This section lists which utensils can be used in the microwave, which ones have limited use for short periods, and which ones should not be used in the microwave.

RECOMMENDED
Microwave browning dish — Use to brown the exterior of small items such as steaks, chops, or pancakes. Follow the directions provided with your browning dish.
Microwaveable plastic wrap — Use to retain steam. Leave a small opening for some steam to escape and avoid placing it directly on the food.
Paper towels and napkins — Use for short-term heating and covering; these absorb excess moisture and prevent spattering. Do not use recycled paper towels, which may contain metal and could ignite.
Glass and glass-ceramic bowls and dishes — Use for heating or cooking.
Paper plates and cups — Use for short-term heating at low temperatures. Do not use recycled paper, which may contain metal and could ignite.
Wax paper — Use as a cover to prevent spattering.
Thermometers — Use only those labeled “Microwave Safe” and follow all directions. Check the food in several places.
Conventional thermometers may be used on microwave food once the food has been removed from the oven.

LIMITED USE
Aluminum foil — Use narrow strips of foil to prevent overcooking of exposed areas. Using too much foil can damage your oven, so be careful. You should keep distance of 1 inch (2.54cm) between aluminum foil and cavity.
Ceramic, porcelain, and stoneware — Use these if they are labeled “Microwave Safe”. If they are not labeled, test them to make sure they can be used safely.
Plastic — Use only if labeled “Microwave Safe”. Other plastics can melt.

NOT RECOMMENDED
Glass jars and bottles — Regular glass is too thin to be used in a microwave. It can shatter and cause damage and injury.
Paper bags — These are a fire hazard, except for popcorn bags that are designed for microwave use.
Styrofoam plates and cups — These can melt and leave an unhealthy residue on food.
Plastic storage and food containers — Containers such as margarine tubs can melt in the microwave.
Metal utensils — These can damage your oven. Remove all metal before cooking.
NOTE: Should you wish to check if a dish is safe for microwaving, place the empty dish in the oven and microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds. A dish which becomes very hot should not be used.

CLEANING AND CARE

  1. Turn off the microwave and unplug the power cord from the wall when cleaning.
  2. Keep the inside of the microwave clean. When food splatters or spilled liquids adhere to microwave walls, wipe with a damp cloth. Mild detergents may be used if the microwave gets very dirty. Avoid using spray or other harsh cleaners.
They may stain, streak, or dull the door surface.
  3. The outside of the microwave should be cleaned with a damp cloth. To prevent damage to the operating parts inside the microwave, water should not be allowed to seep into the ventilation openings.
  4. Wipe the window on both sides with a damp cloth to remove any spills or splatters.
  5. Do not allow the control panel to become wet. Clean with a soft, damp cloth. When cleaning the panel, leave the microwave door open to prevent it from accidentally turning on.
  6. If steam accumulates inside or around the outside of the door, wipe with a soft cloth. This may occur when the microwave is operated under high humidity. This is normal.
  7. It may be necessary to remove the glass tray for cleaning. Wash the tray in warm, soapy water or in a dishwasher. The roller ring and microwave floor should be cleaned regularly to avoid excessive noise. Wipe the bottom surface of the microwave with a mild detergent.
  8. The roller ring may be washed in mild, soapy water or in a dishwasher. When removing the roller ring, be sure to replace it in the proper position.
  9. Remove odors from your microwave by combining a cup of water with the juice and skin of one lemon in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 5 minutes. Wipe thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
  10. If the light bulb burns out, please contact customer service to have it replaced.
  11. The microwave should be cleaned regularly and any food deposits should be removed. Failure to maintain the microwave in a clean condition could lead to deterioration of surfaces that could adversely affect the life of the unit and could possibly result in a hazardous situation.
