Installation Instructions

Starlink Volcano Mount

If you are uncomfortable with any part of the installation process, do not attempt – contact a professional to install your Starlink. Starlink is not responsible for damage to property caused by the installation process.

Please be aware that inclement weather (e.g., heavy rain, snow, or wind) can affect your satellite internet connection, potentially leading to slower speeds or a rare outage.

The Starlink will detect and melt snow that falls directly on it; however, accumulating snow around the Starlink may block the field of view. We recommend installing Starlink in a location that avoids snow build-up and other obstructions from blocking the field of view.

If your Starlink App displays a “Motor’s Stuck” alert, your Starlink may be mounted in a way that it cannot reach its optimal angle to connect with the satellites. We advise mounting your Starlink within 40 degrees of vertical. Mounting your Starlink in a horizontal position (i.e., on the side of your chimney), will not allow it to operate.

INSTALLATION CONDITIONS

WARNING! The power supply and router are restricted to indoor use only.
WARNING! Mounts are not designed for hurricane/tornado wind loads. Tethering should be used in all cases to prevent failure in an unexpected wind event.

SAFETY NOTICES

WARNING! To reduce the risk of injury, electric shock, or
fire, follow basic safety precautions, including:

  • Make sure the product’s power is disconnected before accessing, moving, or installing the Starlink (aka “Dishy McFlatface”). Starlink contains moving parts when powered on.
  • Plug the power cord into an AC outlet that is easily accessible at all times. If the power cord has a 3-pin attachment, plug the cord into a grounded (earthed) 3-pin outlet.
  • Only use the AC adapter and power cord provided with the system or purchased from SpaceX.
  • Do not operate this product with a damaged power cord set. If the power cord is damaged, replace before using this product.
  • During operation, do not allow the AC adapter to contact skin or a soft surface, such as carpet/rug or clothing. The product and the AC adapter comply with the user-accessible surface temperature limits defined by applicable safety standards.

Do not operate this product if you notice crackling, hissing, popping sounds, a strong odor, or smoke coming from any parts of the system. Turn off the system, disconnect from power source, and contact Starlink technical support for assistance.

WARNING! To avoid injury to persons and damage to property when drilling, take caution and follow basic safety procedures, including:

  • Wear appropriate eye, hand, and face protection.
  • Avoid studs, electrical wiring, and water lines when drilling. Drilling into any of these can lead to fire, shock, injury, or death.
  • Drill at a slight downward angle from the home interior to the home exterior and thoroughly apply sealant. Improper drilling and sealing may lead to water and/or bug intrusion and/or damage.

For more safety, regulatory, labeling, and disposal information, refer to the Regulatory Notices in the main internet kit.

Starlink Install Guide

How to setup and install your Starlink Kit
Find A Clear View of the Sky

Your Starlink needs a clear view of the sky so it can stay connected with satellites as they move overhead. Objects
that obstruct the connection between your Starlink and the satellite, such as a tree branch, pole, or roof, will cause
service interruptions.

To find a location with a clear view of the sky:

  1. Download the Starlink App.
  2. Use the “Check for Obstructions” tool to find an install location that will deliver the best service.
  3. For best results, Starlink should be installed as close to vertical as possible.

If you could not find a clear field of view from the ground level, consider installing in an elevated location,
like a roof, pole, or wall. Additional mounts and accessories are available for purchase on the Starlink Shop.

Plug Starlink In

1. Put Starlink into base and plug into power.

2. Starlink will automatically level itself to search for satellites overhead. Do NOT attempt to manually adjust your Starlink.
3. After a few minutes, Starlink will make an initial connection to the Starlink constellation and tilt to the optimum angle for satellite coverage (slightly north or south based on your location in the northern or southern hemisphere).

Connect to WiFi

1. On your device, find and connect to the STARLINK network in your WiFi settings.

2. Once connected, a browser window will open prompting you to enter a new SSID (Network name) and password. This step is optional but recommended.

3. You are now connected! Open the Starlink App to customize additional settings, check your connection, and more.

Can’t Get Online?
  1. Open the Starlink App to check for any alerts, outages, or obstructions.
  2. Check the WiFi router light.
  3. Make sure everything is securely plugged in and there is no damage to hardware or cables.
  4. Confirm you are at the correct service address listed on your account.
  5. Power cycle Starlink by unplugging from power and then plugging back in.
  6. If none of these works, contact Starlink Customer Support by logging into your account on starlink.com

This allows time to test your Starlink and set up location to make sure Starlink is a good fit for you.
Note – a statement will be generated 7 days prior to the billing due date as a reminder for upcoming charges.

How much is my monthly service price? How much is the Starlink Kit?

Go to Starlink.com, enter your address, and click “Order Now” to preview the price breakdown in your area.

What is Starlink’s Portability Feature and Policy?

For an additional monthly fee, the Portability feature enables users to temporarily move their Starlink to new locations in order to receive service anywhere within the same continent Starlink provides active coverage. To see active coverage areas, please view the Starlink Availability Map. Portable users are served best effort and can expect lower service levels than fixed users, particularly in areas marked as “Waitlist” on the Availability Map.
Add Portability on Your Account:
– If you are an active customer, you can enable Portability from your account page and it will take effect immediately.
– If you purchased Portability before receiving your Starlink as a new customer, you must first power on your new Starlink at the Service Address listed in your account so your Starlink can update its software. Once updated, the Starlink will then be configured for Portability.
– If you have multiple Starlinks, Portability must be selected and purchased for each location.
– When you enable Portability, you are charged on your next monthly invoice. Portability is charged in full monthly increments and cannot be pro-rated. The Portability feature and billing charges will be ongoing until you decide to disable it.  Once you disable Portability, the recurring charge will stop after your next monthly invoice and Portability will only remain active for the remainder of the current billing cycle. For example, if you enable Portability on March 12th and your next billing date is on April 1st, you will be charged $25 on April 1st for the full previous month.

Limitations:
Best Effort Service: Portability service is provided on a best effort basis. Stated speeds and uninterrupted use of services are not guaranteed. Starlink prioritizes network resources for users at their registered service address. When you bring your Starlink to a new location, this prioritization may result in degraded service, particularly at times of peak usage or network congestion.
International Travel: Starlink can only be used within the same continent as the registered Service Address. If you use Starlink in a foreign country for more than two months, you will be required to move your registered service address to your new location or purchase an additional Starlink to maintain service.
No In-Motion Use:  We do not support Starlink use in motion at this time. Using the Starlink Kit in motion will void the limited warranty of your Kit. While our teams are actively working to make it possible to use Starlink on moving vehicles (e.g., automobiles, RVs, boats), Starlink is not yet configured to be safely used in this way.

What is Starlink for RVs?

Immediate access to high-speed, low-latency internet on an as-needed basis at any destination where Starlink provides active coverage. The service can be paused or un-paused at anytime. At this time, there is no waitlist – all orders will be shipped shortly after the order is placed. However, supply is subject to network and equipment availability.
– We do not support Starlink use in motion at this time.
