STEELSERIES FREE MOBILE WIRELESS CONTROLLER

USER GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing the SteelSeries Free Mobile Controller! This controller is designed by SteelSeries, a dedicated manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear and mobile gaming accessories.
This user guide is designed to familiarize you with all aspects of our controller, its setup, and its usage. We hope that it will be of use to you. If there are any questions that are not answered or clarified in this user guide, please refer to our website: http://faq.steelseries.com

CHARGING THE CONTROLLER

Prior to using your SteelSeries Free for the first time, it is recommended that you charge the controller for 2 hours by plugging in the USB cable (provided in the box) – plug one end of the cable in your Free and plug the other end into a powered USB port. Remember, you can use your Free while it’s charging.
Your FREE controller is built with a Lithium ION rechargeable battery. During charging, a red and white LED will give you the charging status:

  • While the FREE Controller is charging, the red light will stay on
  •  When the FREE Controller is fully charged, the red light will turn off
  •  Low battery Indicator – The white light will flash very quickly and repeatedly

GENERAL INFORMATION

Modes
The SteelSeries Free Mobile Wireless Controller was designed with cross-platform play in mind. The Free Controller ships with two “modes”.
Gamepad Mode (default): Lets you play games on Android devices, PC’s and Mac OSX®
Arcade Mode: Lets you play games on iOS® that support iCade controls.
To toggle between the two modes, press the “A+B” buttons simultaneously while the controller is powered off. The Free Controller will remember the last mode you were in on standard power-up (holding “A” for 3 seconds). TM

Illumination Patterns
When the Free is on, the white LED next to the “A” button flashes in a specific pattern to inform you of the current mode and connection status.

  • Gamepad Mode – the white LED will blink once, this will repeat (single blink)
  •  Arcade Mode – the white LED will blink twice, this will repeat (double blink)
  • The disconnected – white light will blink (once or twice, depending on your current mode) every second
  • Connected – white light will blink (once or twice, depending on your current mode) every 3 seconds

For example, if your Free is currently in HID Gamepad Mode (the default) and it is not paired to a device yet, it will blink (one quick blink) once every second. Once you pair it to a device, the lighting behavior will change to blinking (one quick blink) every three seconds.
On the other hand, if your FREE is in Arcade Mode and it is not paired to your iOS device yet, it will blink (two quick blinks) once every second. Once you pair it to your iOS device, the lighting behavior will change to blinking (two quick blinks) every three seconds.
IF YOU ARE ASKED TO ENTER A PAIRING CODE FOR YOUR iOS DEVICE, REFER TO THESE KEY MAPPINGS

– Bluetooth® is a registered trademark of Bluetooth SIG, Inc.

CONNECTING ON ANDROID TM (TABLETS/PHONES)

If this is your first time turning on your Free, hold down the “A” button for 3 seconds to turn on the controller. You’ll know the controller is on because the white light will start flashing. Please note that the controller will remember the last mode you were in. If you’ve used the Free on an iOS® device previously, you will need to switch to “Gamepad Mode” by pressing “A+B” buttons for 3 seconds while the controller is off. If your Free is properly paired and connected, the white light will be in a “single blink” pattern.
Enable Bluetooth® on your Android TM device by going to the Settings menu, turn on Bluetooth®, then tap “Search for Devices” and look for the “Zeemote: SteelSeries Free” in the device’s list. Select the controller and your Free should pair effortlessly. If a code prompt is displayed, enter “0000” to pair your device.
Open up a compatible game, navigate to the in-game controller settings menu and select the Gamepad/Controller option (The exact name varies from game to game). If the game supports remapping, feel free to do so from the in-game controller settings menu. If you don’t know if the game is controller compatible, go to www.steelseries.com/free/android to find a list of compatible games and much more.

CONNECTING ON iOS® (iPHONE®/iPAD®/iPOD TOUCH®)

If this is your first time turning on your Free or you’ve used your Free on Android device, PC or Mac® previously, hold down “A+B” buttons for 3 seconds to switch to “Arcade Mode” and simultaneously turn on the controller. You’ll know the controller is on because the white light will start flashing in a “double blink” pattern. Please note that the controller will remember the last mode you were in, so you don’t need to repeat this process every time. Going forward, you can simply turn the controller on by holding down the “A” button for 3 seconds.
Enable Bluetooth® on your iPhone®/iPad®/iPod® touch by going to the Settings menu, navigate to the General tab, turn on Bluetooth® and look for the “Zeemote: SteelSeries Free” in the device’s list. Select the controller and your Free should pair effortlessly. If a code prompt is displayed, enter the code based on the graphic on the last page of this Quick Start Guide.
Open up a compatible game, navigate to the in-game controller settings menu and select the Gamepad/Controller option (Exact name varies from game to game). If the game supports remapping, feel free to do so from the in-game controller settings menu. If you don’t know if the game is iCade controller compatible, go to www.steelseries.com/free/ios to find a list of compatible games and much more.
NOTE: On iOS® devices, your Free controller is recognized as a Bluetooth® keyboard. Therefore, when your Free is paired on your iOS® device, you will not be able to type as the on-screen keyboard disappears. If you would like to search for games or use your keyboard, please disconnect (or power off) your Free and proceed.

CONNECTING ON WINDOWS PC

If you have a Windows computer that has Bluetooth capability and this is your first time turning on your Free, hold down the “A” button for 3 seconds to turn on the controller.
To pair the controller with the computer, go to Start -> Control Panel. Look for either the “Add a device” option under the Hardware and Sound section, or click the “Devices and Printers” option and select “Add a device” in the top left corner. A window will pop up indicating that Windows is searching for a Bluetooth device to connect to. Select “Zeemote: SteelSeries Free” when it appears. If it gives you any options for pairing codes, choose to use your own key, and enter “0000”.
If you’re playing a controller-enabled game, start up the game, go to the in-game controller settings and select the gamepad option. Otherwise, use the SteelSeries Engine to emulate a mouse/keyboard (see the SteelSeries Engine section below).

CONNECTING ON MAC OSX®

If is your first time turning on your Free, hold down the “A” button for 3 seconds to turn on the controller.
To pair the controller with the computer, click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen. Select System Preferences -> Bluetooth. On the pop up window click on the plus sign at the bottom left corner to add a device. Select “Zeemote: SteelSeries Free” when it appears. If it prompts you for a pairing code, enter “0000”.
If you’re playing a controller-enabled game, start up the game, go to the in-game controller settings and select the gamepad option. Otherwise, use the SteelSeries Engine to emulate a mouse/keyboard (see the SteelSeries Engine section below).

INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE

On Windows and Mac OSX®, the Free is powered by the SteelSeries Engine software suite. The SteelSeries Engine will allow you to play virtually any game with the Free Controller. Many games do not support Gamepads natively, and the SteelSeries Engine will allow keyboard and mouse emulation to work around that limitation.
1. Ensure that the Free is paired with your machine (see Connecting on Windows PC or Mac OS X for more information)
2. Download the version of the SteelSeries Engine that is appropriate for your platform: http://www.steelseries.com/downloads/
3. Launch the installer and follow the instructions on the screen.
Detailed instructions on how to operate most of the SteelSeries Engine can be found in the SteelSeries Engine user manual. To access the user manual in Windows, go to Start -> Program Files (or All Programs) -> SteelSeries -> SteelSeries Engine. On Mac, go to Applications -> SteelSeries Engine. Then select the SteelSeries Engine User Guide (UserGuide.pdf on Mac). The following parts will describe aspects of the Engine that are specific to the Free.
BUTTONS

Mouse and Keyboard Mode
“Mouse & Keyboard Mode” will allow you to assign keyboard and mouse inputs to the Free’s buttons and joysticks. This enables the use of the Free with games that only support mouse and keyboard input. To turn the mode on or off, click on the switch next to the “Mouse and Keyboard” label. You may want to turn the mode “Off” for games that provide native controller support.
Presets
Click the arrow next to the label “Presets” to view a list of preset button assignments for the Free. Presets are optimized for different game genres such as first-person shooters, 2D platformers, etc. Once you select a preset, all the buttons and joysticks will be loaded with a setup customized for that particular genre. To configure the Free for your particular game, you may have to make some adjustments to the presets. However, these presets are a great jumping-off point.

Analog Joystick Settings
If you click the buttons labeled “L. Joystick” or “R. Joystick”, instead of getting to customize the buttons on the Free, you will be able to customize the left or right joystick respectively. Both the left and right joysticks can be set to one of three modes: 4-Direction: The joystick behaves like a directional pad with only four basic directions – up, down, left, and right. The joystick will not recognize diagonal movements, like up-right. Each direction can have an action assigned to it, just like one of the buttons. 8-Direction: The joystick recognizes eight directions – up, down, left, right – and four basic diagonal directions, such as up-right. Like the 4-Direction mode, each of the 8 directions can have an action assigned to it. If you toggle on the Automatic Corners, when you trigger the corners, it will automatically output the macros for the adjacent sides. For example, if you move the joystick up-right, the actions for up and right will output. Mouse Movement: The joystick simulates mouse input, allowing you to move the mouse cursor with the Free. This mode is optimal for 3D games in which you would otherwise use a mouse. After you set a joystick to “Mouse Movement” move to the Settings tab at the top to adjust the details on how the analog joystick operates.
Note: To see and apply your changes, you must hit the save button first.

SETTINGS

The colored circles represent your two analog joysticks. The small white circles in the center represent your analog stick’s current position. If you move your joystick around, you will see the white circles move.
Dead Zone
The black area in the center of the image represents the dead zone, which is the region around the center of the joystick where movement is not registered – this is a feature found in all controllers with analog joysticks to avoid very slight jitter when not moving the analog sticks. You can adjust the size of the dead zone by moving the Dead Zone slider to the right (bigger) or left (smaller). The size of the black area will get larger or smaller according to how you adjust the dead zone. Increasing the dead zone size will result in needing to move the joystick more to register movement.

Mouse Emulation
Speed
When the joystick is set to “Mouse Movement”, the image of the joystick corresponds to how you selected the two speeds using the sliders on the right. The “Speed” sets the speed at which the joystick moves the cursor. The left slider defines the slowest speed you would like to have on your joystick, when the smallest amount of pressure is applied. The right slider defines the fastest mouse speed when the maximum amount of pressure applied. The mouse speeds are color-coded, with blue being the slowest and red being the fastest. These colors are matched on the image to the left – this is done so that after you set the speeds, you will get a good indication of what mouse speed will be output at various parts on the joystick map.
Acceleration Curves
SteelSeries Engine also provides four options for mapping joystick movement to mouse speed.

  • Smooth (Linear): The speed will gradually adjust from slow to fast speeds at a normal rate.
  • Slow (ease in): The change from the slow speed to the fast speed will gradually occur later – a little more movement will be required on the joystick to start speeding up the cursor.
  • Fast (ease out): The change from the slow speed to the fast speed will gradually occur earlier – a little less movement will be required on the joystick to start speeding up the cursor.
  •  Instant: There is only one speed throughout the entire analog stick.

Y-Invert
“Y Invert” reverses the up and down movements of the controller. If selected, pressing up on the joystick will cause the cursor to move down, and pressing down will move the cursor up.
Directional Pad
When the joystick is set to 4-Direction or 8-Direction, the alternating shades of blue represent the separation between each direction.
Note: To see and apply your changes, you must hit the Save button first.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Q: After I pair my Free to a Windows PC, I get a warning message that “Device driver software was not successfully installed.”
A: This is OK! Because the Free is a true cross-platform controller, it must present itself as multiple types of devices to the host system. Your Free controller is still working properly and can be used to play games.
Q: When I connect to a mobile device (either Android or iOS) in Arcade mode, I can’t access my touch screen keyboard.
A: While in Arcade mode, the Free controller is technically recognized as a Bluetooth keyboard, which will cause a phone or tablet’s on-screen keyboard to disappear. Unfortunately, you will have to have to unpair or turn off the Free during the times you want to type.
Q: While I am installing the SteelSeries Engine, it unpairs my Free controller.
A: Unfortunately, this is an unavoidable part of updating the drivers. Furthermore, you’ll notice if you look at the device list – the Free controller is still considered connected by Windows. It is very important that you do not remove the Free from the devices list. To fix this, simply turn the controller off then turn it back on.
Q: What games will work with the Free controller on my device?
A: For Windows and Mac OS X computers, just about any game that works with a mouse/keyboard will work with the Free controller, thanks to the SteelSeries Engine.
For Android or iOS devices, you can find a list of compatible games using the following links:
Android: http://www.steelseries.com/free/android
iOS: http://www.steelseries.com/free/ios
Q: What features are available in the Android version of the SteelSeries Engine?
A: The Android version of the SteelSeries Engine is a great assistant for helping first-time users set up their Free controller with their tablet or phone. Once paired, the application will also allow you to test out your controller, providing feedback on button presses and analog joystick movements. Also included in the application are links to the quick start guide as well as a list of compatible games.

CONCLUSION

This concludes the user manual for the SteelSeries Free Mobile Controller. We hope this manual answered any questions you may have had. If you have any further questions – please refer to our website: http://faq.steelseries.com Good luck, and have fun.

SteelSeries IKARI Laser Mouse User Manual

Introduction

Thank you for choosing SteelSeries Ikari Laser. This mouse has been designed by SteelSeries, a dedicated manufacturer of innovate professional gaming gear, including headsets, keyboards, mouse pads, and other accessories. This small manual supplied with the mouse is designed to familiarize you with all aspects of the mouse, setup and usage, and we hope that it will be of use to you.

Overview

Connecting Your Mouse

Connect the USB cord to a USB port.

NOTE: The SteelSeries Ikari reports at 1000Hz versus the standard 125Hz. Some USB hubs might decrease the mouse polling frequency, so if you experience decreased performance when using your mouse with a USB hub, then plug your mouse directly into the USB port on your computer.

Technical Specifications

Installing The Software

Insert the CD – follow the instructions on the screen.

Software Overview

Profiles (Software)

The SteelSeries Ikari Laser Software lets you define profiles that consists of combinations of sensitivity settings and FreeMove settings. The profiles can be saved and loaded as files on your drive. Furthermore you are able to download pre fabricated profiles from the SteelSeries website.

Profile dropdown – Show all profiles in the profile directory
Load – Import profiles profiles from hard drive
Save – Save a profile to hard drive
Delete – Delete a profile from hard drive
Get More – Download profiles from SteelSeries

Menu (Software)

The SteelSeries Ikari Laser features 5 programmable buttons. As with all settings in the SteelSeries Ikari Laser, the button settings made in the SteelSeries Ikari Laser Software gets stored on your mouse, so your settings remain no matter where you plug in your mouse. All buttons can function as regular mousebuttons or activate macros. To set the function for a button, simply select a function from the dropdown menu for each button.

Macros (Software)

The SteelSeries Ikari Laser features macros that can be assigned to any of the 5 programmable buttons. The macros can consist of keyboard presses and/or mouseclicks. To assign a macro to a button, choose “Macro” in the dropdown menu for the desired button – Note that the macro “Rec” and “Edit” buttons are now made active. To record a macro click the “Rec” button, and use the keyboard to type and the mouse to click, until you have your desired macro sequence. NOTE: The maximum length for each macro sequence, is 5 actions. When you are done, click the “Stop” button. The macro field will now display the recorded macro, so you can easily verify that the macro is correct. A macro could look like this; “CTRL[dn]{0}A[dn]{0}A[up]{0}CTRL[up]{0}B[dn]{0} B[up]”. This macro sequence does the following; ‘CTRL’ gets pressed, then after a pause of 0 msec (immediately after) ‘A’ gets pressed and immediately after ‘A’ gets released again. Then ‘CTRL’ gets released released and finally ‘B’ gets pressed and released again immediately after.

Editing Macros (Software)

You can edit the timing of a macro by clicking “Edit”. After each action in a macro, you are able to insert a pause so the individual actions are not executed immediately after each other. This can be useful when a game expects, or needs, a certain timing for a macro sequence to be successful. Another example could be a simple “double shot” sequence where timing is needed between the shots in order to maintain the correct aim because of recoil etc. The edit window shows you the entire macro; the actions and the pauses between each action in the macro. To change a pause value, simply type the desired pause time (stated in milliseconds) in the “Pause” input boxes – when done, click OK.

Sensitivity Settings (Software)

The SteelSeries Ikari Laser lets you store two CPI values in the mouse, and lets you toggle between them with a single click. The SteelSeries ExactSens technology enables you to set the two preferred CPI values with the most precise interval possible; 1 DPI. To set the values, simply enter your preferred CPI values in the two input boxes.

FreeMove Technology (Software)

Many mice manufacturers include a feature that ensures that all users are able to make completely straight lines. The reason for this, is that most users will always make small diversions causing what should be a straight line to be somewhat uneven.

SteelSeries FreeMove offers you the option to choose the degree of when this feature should kick in and correct your movement. Through seven steps you are able to adjust how much control should be left up to the mouse and how much control should be left up to yourself – in other words how precise should the mouse be reproducing your movement.

To set your desired value, simply move the slider left or right.

Apply to Mouse (Software)

To apply a profile on to your mouse, simply click the “Apply to Mouse” button. All settings in your profile gets stored on your mouse, which means that no matter where you plug it in, all settings remain without the need for any drivers or software.

Sensitivity settings (on mouse)

The SteelSeries Ikari Laser lets you store two CPI values in the mouse, and lets you toggle between them with a single click. The toggle function toggles the CPI values, and indicates the current CPI setting (High or Low) on the LEDs found on the left side of the mouse. In addition to that, you are also able to change your CPI values, without using the software. To change a value simply press, and hold the CPI toggle button, until the LCD display found on the bottom of the mouse changes from showing the profile name, to “HIGH: XXXX” or “LOW: XXXX”. Using the scroll wheel, you are now able to set the desired value. When done, click the CPI toggle button once and the LCD display will change to “Saved” before returning to the profile name. Please note that any changes made directly on the mouse, will not be reflected in the profile when you later wish to use the software.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT® WIRELESS MMO MOUSE

USER GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing the World of Warcraft® Wireless MMO Mouse! This mouse has been jointly developed by Blizzard Entertainment, makers of World of Warcraft®, and by SteelSeries, a dedicated manufacturer of innovative professional gaming gear including headsets, keyboards, mousepads, and other accessories.
This user guide has been supplied with the mouse and is designed to familiarize you with all aspects of our product, its setup, and its usage. We hope that it will be of use to you. If there are any questions that are not answered or clarified in this user guide, please refer to our website: http://faq.steelseries.com

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Windows® 7, Windows® Vista, Windows® XP, Mac OS X 10.6, Mac OS X 10.7, Mac OS X 10.8
500 MB of free hard drive space
2 GB RAM
Available powered USB 2.0 or 3.0 port
Internet connection (for driver installation)

CONNECTING YOUR MOUSE

For a wireless connection, connect the Base Station to the computer using the micro-USB to USB cable, then turn the mouse on using the switch on the underside of the mouse next to the sensor. The small light on the left side of the mouse will blink blue periodically to indicate that it is paired and working as a wireless mouse. For a wired connection, simply connect the mouse directly to the computer using the micro-USB to USB cable.
NOTE: Your mouse will not work wirelessly unless the Base Station is connected to your computer!
NOTE: The World of Warcraft® Wireless MMO Mouse can work in 125/250/500/1000 Hz polling rate frequencies. This is configurable through the software and will be explained in the software section below. Some USB hubs might decrease the mouse polling frequency; if you experience decreased performance when using your mouse with a USB hub, plug your mouse directly into the USB port on your computer.

CHARGING THE MOUSE

The wireless mouse uses a rechargeable battery that does not need replacing. The small light on the left side of the mouse will quickly blink red to indicate the battery is low. To recharge the mouse battery, follow either one of these two steps:
1. Place the mouse into the Base Station. Turn the mouse off using the switch on its underside for optimal charging speeds.
2. If your mouse is low on battery but you want to continue using it, connect the mouse to the computer using the micro-USB to USB cable. The small light on the left side should glow a steady red during the charge. When fully charged the light will blink red on and off.
If the mouse is still on during the charge, the small light on the left side of the mouse will glow a steady red to indicate it is charging. When fully charged the light will blink red on and off.
NOTE: If the mouse is turned off but is left in the Base Station or wired to the computer, there will be no light to indicate the mouse is charging or fully charged.
Tip: To minimize the risk of your battery running low during a crucial moment in gameplay, you may want to leave your mouse in the Base Station between uses.

RESYNCING

If you need to pair the mouse and Base Station for any reason, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the button on the underside of the Base Station for approximately 3 seconds. The Base Station lights will blink on and off when you release the button.
2. Turn on the mouse using the switch at the bottom (next to the sensor). Press and hold the button next to the on/off switch for approximately 3 seconds. Upon release, the small light on the left side of the mouse will quickly blink blue.
3. After several seconds, the mouse and Base Station should be paired, allowing you to use the mouse wirelessly.

ON THE FLY CPI ADJUSTMENTS

A mouse’s CPI (or Counts per Inch) determines the sensitivity of the mouse. The higher the CPI, the less you will have to move your mouse in order to move your cursor across the screen.
Under the scroll wheel (between the scroll wheel and the white illuminated World of Warcraft logo) is a triangular button known as the CPI Button. The CPI Button is unique in that it is not programmable – it is only used to switch between two preset CPI settings and enter the LCD Menu (see below).
Between the CPI Button and the scroll wheel is a small round light known as the CPI LED. The CPI LED will indicate which setting is active – for one setting the CPI light will be on, and for the other, the light will be off (though these settings are adjustable – see Settings, below). The CPI can be set using the SteelSeries Engine (see Settings, below).
The initial settings for LED on and LED off are 1600 and 3200 CPI respectively.

INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE

The World of Warcraft Wireless MMO Mouse is powered by the SteelSeries Engine software suite, which really enables the full gaming power of the mouse. Many of its greatest features, like programmable buttons and hardware settings, are only available through the SteelSeries Engine.
1. Ensure your mouse is plugged in and allow your computer to recognize the device.
2. Download the Engine from our website: http://www.steelseries.com/downloads/
3. Launch the installer and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: To ensure that the mouse works properly, please be sure that your mouse is plugged in during the installation.
Detailed instructions on how to operate the SteelSeries Engine can be found in the SteelSeries Engine user manual.

BATTERY STATUS

When you have the World of Warcraft Wireless Mouse connected and recognized by the SteelSeries Engine, there will be a battery icon next to the device name. This icon gives a reading of the battery level on the mouse. The more white bars are in the battery image, the more fully charged the mouse is. When the bars are low or red in color, which is a sign that the mouse will need charging soon. A lightning bolt in the image is an indication that the mouse is currently being charged.

SETTINGS

Pressing the Settings button will bring up the menu shown above.
Counts Per Inch (CPI)
The Count Per Inch (CPI) determines the mouse’s “sensitivity”. Raise the CPI, and the cursor on the screen will move further with the mouse. Lower the CPI and the cursor on the screen will move less. In the SteelSeries Engine, the CPI can be set in increments of 100, from 100 to 8200.
Polling Rate
The Polling Rate has a slider that allows for the polling rate to be set on the World of Warcraft® Wireless MMO Mouse. The available settings are 125, 250, 500, and 1000 Hertz (Hz). The Polling Rate determines how frequently the computer samples the mouse for information. Increasing it will make the cursor even more accurate to direct mouse movements and may improve tracking, but will require more resources (both in power and memory) from the computer.
ExactLift
ExactLift determines how high you have to raise the mouse before it stops tracking your movements. Setting a lift distance too high may accidentally move the cursor when you try to reposition your mouse, while setting it

too low may accidentally lose the tracking of your mouse while moving. Try to find the right balance that is comfortable for your hand and is compatible with the surface you are working on.
Warning: The “Lowest” lift distance setting may cause you to lose all tracking on your mouse, depending on the type of surface you use. If you want to try using this setting, have another mouse ready to use just in case you are unable to move your cursor afterward. If you do, you can easily undo the lift distance setting.
Illumination
The Illumination has two different variables – Intensity and Pulsation. Intensity determines how bright the glow on the mouse can be, while Pulsation determines how quickly the mouse will fade on and off. Setting Pulsation to Steady will make the illumination glow the entire time and never fade to black.

IN-GAME INTEGRATION

SteelSeries and Blizzard Entertainment have worked closely to optimize the World of Warcraft® Wireless MMO Mouse with new functionality that allows players to convert all of the buttons on the mouse to extend Mouse Button presses recognized within the game.
Now with the ability to bind all 10 buttons in-game, the process of binding spells, abilities, and in-game macros to the mouse makes set-up quicker and easier.
The following step-by-step processes will enable the mouse for in-game integration with World of Warcraft® and provide an example of how to bind your extended mouse buttons in-game.
How to enable the mouse for in-game integration within the software:
Note: This feature can function without having to install drivers. If you wish to run this feature driverless, please skip these steps.

  1. Launch the SteelSeries Engine
  2.  Place a checkmark in the ‘Enable in-game mode’ option under the image of the mouse and press Save. This will allow the extended buttons to only run functions when bound in-game.

How to enable the mouse for in-game integration within World of Warcraft®:

  1. Launch World of Warcraft® and log in with a character
  2.  Open the game Menu’ from the icon on the menu bar or hit Esc
  3.  Click the ‘Interface’ button – This will open the in-game Interface Menu
  4.  Click the ‘Mouse’ option from the left pane
  5.  In the Mouse Options, check the ‘Detect World of Warcraft Gaming Mouse’ option
  6.  Once this is done, click “Okay” and click the “Return to game” button

An example of binding the extended mouse buttons to commands within World of Warcraft®:

  1.  Launch World of Warcraft® and log in with a character
  2.  Open the game Menu’ from the icon on the menu bar or hit Esc
  3.  Click the “Key Bindings” button. This will open the in-game key binds menu
  4.  Scroll down to the Right Action Bar commands
  5.  Click the Action Bar Slot button in the keybind menu you wish to bind your mouse button to and press the corresponding mouse button
  6.  Repeat Step 5 for all the Hotbar slots you wish to bind to your mouse
  7.  Now you can drag the spells and abilities from your spellbook (P), or macros from the macro panel (/m) to the desired slots on the action bar that has been bound to your mouse

TROUBLESHOOTING

Q: Are there any special steps for me to take to help prevent potential problems with the Wireless Mouse?
A: On Windows Vista and Windows 7, there are minor settings that we identified to cause problems for SteelSeries devices. For more information on these changes, please go to http://faq.steelseries.com/questions/366/ .
Q: While installing the Engine, the installer tried to run a firmware upgrade but failed. Now my mouse is slowly blinking on and off, but doesn’t work at all!
A: If the mouse is blinking but does not work after a failed firmware update, it is stuck in bootloader mode. This may seem scary initially, but do not worry – it can be repaired in nearly all cases. It simply needs a successful firmware flash.
To restore functionality to the mouse, finish installing the SteelSeries Engine and launch the Firmware Update Tool (on Windows, right-click on the System Tray icon and select “Launch SteelSeries Firmware Update Tool”. On Mac, go to Applications -> SteelSeriesEngine, and select the Firmware Update Tool). Select the appropriate device. Multiple retries or USB port switching may be necessary.
For more details or troubleshooting steps related to this problem, go to http://faq.steelseries.com/questions/368/ .
Q: The mouse works as normal in World of Warcraft®, but I cannot use any of the extended buttons in any other application.
A: If you have “In-Game Mode” enabled in the SteelSeries Engine, you will be unable to assign custom actions to the mouse’s extended buttons outside of World of Warcraft®. Disable the “In-Game Mode” to use the buttons with other games and applications.
Q: Even though I have the Wireless Mouse connected and working, the SteelSeries Engine still says “Please connect a SteelSeries Engine – compatible device to start”.
A: This is a recognized issue that may occur when switching the mouse or Base Station to different USB ports before installing the

Engine. There are various details around this issue, but there are a few set ways to correct this issue:
– Try different USB ports, restarting the Engine with each switch.
– If you must use the mouse on a particular port, but it isn’t working, plug the mouse into that port and reinstall the Engine.
You can manually update the drivers in the Device Manager if neither of the other steps works. Please consult the support at faq.steelseries.com for more details about this.
Q: There are times when the small sidelight is purple, not red or blue.
A: There are two colors present in the side LED – the blue helps indicate the wireless stage (whether it’s connected to a Base Station, looking for the Base Station, pairing, etc), and the red indicates when the battery is either low or charging. At times the two will overlap (when the battery is low, but the mouse is also looking for the Base Station), causing the purple light.
Q: Why does the Keyboard Setup Assistant pop up when I plug my mouse into my Mac?
A: This is done because it is a part of the Mac OS X operating system. SteelSeries does not have the capability or control over the system to override it. Any HID device that is plugged in with extended buttons will be identified as an irregular keyboard that requires “calibration,” so that the OS can figure out what to output when the extra keys are pressed. Users will have to simply click the X button on the top left in order to exit the setup assistant.
