Safety Instructions

Quick Setup

1. Connect the included speaker wire from the A2+ left (powered) speaker to the right (passive) speaker, observing proper wire polarity to each speaker connector.

2. Verify that the volume/power knob on the rear panel of the left speaker is in the OFF position by rotating the knob until it clicks off.

3. Connect the cable from the external power supply to the A2+ left speaker rear panel.

3. Connect the AC power cord to the other end of the power supply and plug the cord into a functioning power outlet. A light on the power supply should be illuminated.

Wireless connection

1. Turn power on via the rear panel volume/power knob.
   A2+ Wireless will automatically go into Bluetooth “pair mode” and the Pair button on the rear panel will start flashing.
2. On your device (phone, tablet, computer, etc) turn on Bluetooth and go to Bluetooth preferences.
3. Select “Audioengine A2+” to pair and connect. The Pair indicator light on the A2+ rear panel should now be on solid.
4. Play your music and adjust volume levels for A2+ and your device.
5. To add additional devices put A2+ back into pair mode by discon­necting A2+ from your device or by pressing the Pair button on the A2+ rear panel for about 3 seconds until the pair indicator light starts flashing. Repeat steps 2-4 to connect another device.
   A2+ can wirelessly connect to only one device at a time, however it will pair and remember up to six different devices.

Wired connection

1. Connect an audio cable between your device and one of the inputs on the A2+ rear panel.
2. Play music and adjust the volume on the speakers and your device to your desired listening levels.

USB audio connection

1. Connect the included USB cable between your computer and the USB input on the rear panel of the left powered speaker.
2. If using Windows, the A2+ should be recognized automatically.

For MacOS, under System Preferences/Sound/Output, select “Audioengine A2+”.

Inputs and volume settings

Multiple devices may be connected to the speakers at the same time and all inputs are open and active so it’s easy to switch between your tablet, phone, TV, or any other device.

To adjust the volume, we recommend you first set a level on A2+ and then use the volume control on your device to adjust the overall level. Volume settings are flexible and there is no right or wrong so feel free to experiment to find what works for you.

Break-in period

Your speakers will sound great out of the box and will get better over time. No need to do anything else but listen to them, however, we do recommend that you give them at least 40 to 50 hours break-in time before doing any critical listening.

Cleaning

We don’t recommend using any solvents or cleaners. Just wipe down the cabinets with a soft, dry cloth.

Other features

Variable audio output

The A2+ Wireless Powered Speakers include a variable full-range preamp audio output so you can connect a subwoofer. You can also stream music to other systems around your house by using our W3 wireless adapters. This output is adjustable so the volume level of this output can be controlled from the A2+ volume control.

Speaker placement

Although your A2+ Wireless speakers are very forgiving with regards to where you place them, it’s true that proper speaker location can have an impact on sound quality. Even though there are different theories on correct speaker placement, rooms and tastes are different so it’s difficult to recommend a perfect setup. We do suggest you feel free to experiment to see what works for you.

As a general rule of thumb for the best soundstage and imaging, tweeters should be at about eye-level in your most frequent listening location. For the best bass response we recommend at least 6 inches of clearance between the rear of the speakers and the wall behind them.

Here are a few more suggestions, assuming you have some flexibility regarding where you place your speakers. No need for concern if your listening space dictates the speakers’ position.

Both speakers should be equal distance from your primary listening position.

Placing the speakers at least 6 feet (l.8m) apart usually provides the best imaging.

Allow at least 6 inches of clearance between the rear of the speakers and the wall or surface behind them.

If you need to turn the speakers on their sides, position the tweeters toward the outside.

If used on a desktop for computer or multimedia speakers, the more solid the surface the better.

Warranty information

All Audioengine products have a 3-year Limited Warranty on parts and labor from date of purchase. The Limited Warranty applies only to Audioengine products purchased in the United States. Your warranty is automatic, so there is no need to register. For Limited Warranty coverage elsewhere, please contact the Audioengine dealer, reseller, or distributor in your country or region.

What is covered

All defective parts or faulty workmanship.

What is not covered

The Audioengine Limited Warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, excessive moisture, lightning, power surges, other acts of nature, unauthorized product modification or repairs, or failure to follow the instructions outlined in this guide.

What we will do

We will repair or replace any defective parts, at our option, within a reasonable amount of time and free of charge any time during the warranty period. After service, we will be responsible for shipping the product back to you at our expense.

What we ask from you

You will be responsible for shipping charges to Audioengine or to an authorized dealer. We recommend you keep the original shipping materials to prevent shipping damage if service is needed. Audioen­gine cannot be responsible for any damages incurred during shipping due to poor packing, so please pack well and make sure to insure your shipment.

This Limited Warranty is fully transferable provided the current owner furnishes the proof of purchase and that the serial number on the product is intact. THE MAXIMUM LIABILITY OF AUDIOENGINE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE ACTUAL PURCHASE PRICE PAID BY YOU FOR THE PRODUCT. A2+ Wireless Quick Setup

Step 1: Connect the included speaker wire from the A2+ left (powered) speaker to the right (passive) speaker, observing proper polarity to each speaker connector.

1) Use your thumb and finger to unscrew the binding post connectors on the back of each speaker.

2) Insert each speaker wire into the holes on the side of binding post connectors, making sure to connect the positive (+) terminal on the left speaker to the positive (+) terminal on the right speaker.

3) Retighten the binding posts with your fingers.

4) Verify that only the exposed portion of the speaker wire is secured firmly in each connector.

5) Make sure that none of the speaker wire strands have come in contact with an adjoining terminal.

Step 2: Verify that the volume/power knob on the rear panel of the left speaker is in the OFF position by rotating the knob until it clicks off..

Step 3: Connect the cable from the external power supply to the A2+ left speaker rear panel.

Step 4: Connect the Ac power cord to the other end of the power supply, and plug the cord into a functioning power outlet. A light on the power supply should be illuminated.

Wireless Connection

Step 1: Turn power on via the rear panel volume/power knob.

A2+ Wireless Troubleshooting Tips

The following troubleshooting tips can help diagnose and correct most concerns with the A2+ Wireless. We have attempted to make this list as comprehensive as possible, so some of these may not apply to your issue, but please go through each tip.

If the power indicator on the A2+ external power supply unit is not illuminated, try these tips:

1. Make sure the AC power cord is connected to the power supply unit and to a working AC power outlet.
2. Check that the cable at the other end of the power supply is correctly connected to the rear panel of the left speaker.

If the power supply light is on but you are experiencing an audio-related issue with a wired connection, try these tips:

1. Verify that the volume/power control on the rear panel is not turned all the way down or powered off (we recommend setting the volume to at least the 10 o’clock position)
2. Check that the volume level of your audio source components or devices is not set to minimum volume or powered off.
3. Check speaker wire connections from the left (powered) speaker to the right (passive) speaker. Confirm this by removing the speaker wire from on each speaker and reconnecting.  Also check the speaker wire polarity by verifying that the wires are going to same terminals on both speakers.
4. Check that the cables from your audio sources to the speakers are properly connected. Confirm this by unplugging the audio cables and then reconnecting.
5. Decrease the volume of the input audio source and increase the volume of the speakers.
6. Try using different audio input sources and/or devices to see if the problem follows.
7. Try swapping your left and right speaker via the RCA left and right inputs to see if the issue remains in the same channel or follows the speaker.
8. If you are using a computer with your A2+ Wireless, make sure the volume is up on your media players, internet radio, master control, device volume, etc. and the balance control is centered.

If your input source has its own EQ, please make sure the low end is at a moderate level, as having too much bass can cause distortion.

• If you are using a wireless adapter, preamp, or external DAC with these speakers, remove them (temporarily) and connect the audio input source directly to the speakers.
• Move your speakers to a different location to see if something is causing interference in the current setup.  Something as simple as a wireless internet router, cordless or mobile phone, or halogen lamp near the speakers can cause interference.

A2+ Wireless troubleshooting tips – internal USB digital-to-analog converter

Try these tips if your computer is not recognizing the speaker through your computer’s USB input or the sound through USB isn’t functioning correctly.

If you are using a Windows computer, uninstall the USB driver from your computer.  Then disconnect the USB cable to remove the A2+ from your computer and plug it back in to allow the USB driver to re-install automatically.  You can find complete instructions from Microsoft on how to reinstall a plug-and-play device under Windows here.

If you are using a Mac, try a NVRAM/PRAM reset.  This resets the system configurations for some audio and video related items and can many times help clear up problems related to audio. See Apple’s support page for information on how to do this.

A2+ Wireless troubleshooting tips – Bluetooth

1. Verify that the A2+ is connected to power and that the front volume knob is turned clockwise past the detent position (you should feel a click).  If you haven’t already, power-cycle your speakers by switching them off and back on.
2. If your A2+ is already connected to a device via Bluetooth, the Bluetooth pair light on the back panel of the left speaker will be on and solid (note that if your A2+ has been idle and not connected to a device for more than 2 minutes, the Pair light will automatically turn off).  Tap the Pair button and it should begin blinking (or pair to your A2+ using your source device, and the LED will go from off to on and solid).
3. Try playing audio from more than one application on your phone/tablet, or computer.
4. Check to make sure your source device (computer, tablet, phone, etc) is running the most up-to-date version of software available. For Mac OS users, be sure to check the App store to see if there’s a newer version of Mac OS you could be running.
5. Try disconnecting from and forgetting the A2+ through your device’s Bluetooth settings, and re-pairing to the A2+.
6. Try using a different source device with your A2+ to see if the issue follows.  Also be sure to test your A2+ using the analog input as well.
7. If possible, try your A2+ in a different location to see if something is causing an issue in the current setup.  Something as simple as a wireless internet router, cordless or mobile phone, or halogen lamp near the speakers may be causing interference in your setup.

Unpacking

Your Audioengine 5+ speakers were carefully tested and inspected before packaging and shipping. After unpacking please check for any damage. It is rare that any damage occurs during shipping, but if this does happen contact the shipping company immediately. We also recommend that you keep the original carton and packing material.

Setup and Operation

Step 1 – Speaker Placement

Although your Audioengine 5+ speakers are very forgiving with regards to placement, it’s true that proper speaker placement can have an impact on sound quality. There seem to be different theories on correct speaker placement but rooms and tastes are different so it’s difficult to recommend a perfect setup. We do suggest you feel free to experiment to see what works for you.

As a general rule of thumb for the best soundstage and imaging, the speakers should be equidistant from side walls and a different distance from rear walls. Tweeters should be at about eye-level in your most frequent listening location and for the best bass response we recommend at least 6 inches of clearance between the rear of the speakers and the wall behind them.

Here are a few more suggestions, assuming you have some edibility regarding where you place your speakers. No need for concern if your situation and listening environment dictate the speakers’ position.

• Both speakers should be equidistant from your primary listening position.
• Placing the speakers at least 6 feet (1.8m) apart usually provides the best imaging.
• Try to keep the speakers near the front edge of shelves or cabinets.
• Allow at least 6 inches of clearance between the rear of the speakersand the wall or surface behind them.
• If you need to turn the speakers on their sides, position the tweeters toward the outside.
• If used on a desktop for computer speakers, it’s best if they are placed on a solid surface

Step 2 – Connecting the Speaker Wire

The Audioengine 5+ speakers have amplifiers built into the left cabinet and the included speaker wire is used to connect both speakers to each other. The A5+ uses high quality, five-way gold plated binding posts that will accept heavy gauge bare wire, banana plugs, spade lugs, or pin terminators.

1. Use your thumb and finger to unscrew the binding post connectors on the back of each speaker.
2. Insert each speaker wire into the holes on the side of binding post connectors, making sure to connect the positive (+) terminal on the left speaker to the positive (+) terminal on the right speaker.
3. Retighten the binding posts with your fingers.
4. Verify that only the exposed portion of the speaker wire is secured only in each connector.
5. Make sure that none of the speaker wire strands have come in contact with an adjoining terminal.

Note:
As the Audioengine 5+ speaker system includes built-in power amplifiersers, do not connect the speaker terminals to the speaker outputs of a stereo receiver or amplifier.

Step 3 – Connecting the Power Cord

1.  Verify that the power switch on the left speaker rear panel is in the OFF position.
2. Confirm that the rear panel voltage selector switch is set to the proper voltage for your area.
3. Connect the power cord into the left speaker and the other end into an AC power outlet.

Note:
We recommend using a high-quality surge suppressor and/or AC line filter on all electronics equipment.

Step 4 – Connecting Audio Cables

Using the appropriate audio cable (3.5” mini-jack and/or RCA cable), connect your audio source (computer, iPod, etc.) to the A5+ audio inputs. One of each cable type is included.

Note:
Both audio inputs on the A5+ are active so two audio sources may be connected to the speakers at the same time without the need for an input switch.

Step 5 – Operation

1. Move the A5+ rear panel power switch to the ON position. The left speaker front panel power indicator should flash a few times then go solid.
2. Turn on your audio input source and adjust the volume to the desired listening level.
3. Adjust the A5+ speaker volume level with the volume knob on the front panel or with the included remote control.

Break-in Period

We don’t recommend using any solvents or cleaners on Audioengine cabinets or speakers. Just wipe down with a soft, dry cloth.

Variable Output

The A5+ includes a variable preamp audio output so you can connect a subwoofer, other Audioengine powered speakers, or an Audioengine wireless adapter to daisy-chain music to other systems around the house. This output is variable (adjustable) so the volume level can be controlled from the A5+ front panel or remote control.

USB Power

The USB port allows you to power and charge your iDevice (iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc.), Audioengine wireless adapters, or any USB powered product through the USB connector on the rear panel.
Note that this is for power only, not USB audio or data transfer.

Stand Mounting

Threaded 1/4″-20 brass inserts are included on the bottom of each speaker cabinet to provide the ability to attach the speakers to freestanding floor stands. These inserts, however, are not designed to support the full weight of the speakers and therefore should not be used with single-point wall or ceiling mounts.

Important Safety Note: It is the customer’s responsibility to check with the stand manufacturer to determine whether that specific stand is capable of handling the weight and proportions of these speakers in a safe and stable manner. The customer is also responsible for proper selection of mounting hardware not included with the speaker and for proper assembly. Audioengine disclaims any liability for the selection of suitable floor stands and/or correct hardware between the selected stand and these speakers.

Troubleshooting

Front panel power indicator is not illuminated

• Verify that the AC power cord is firmly connected to the A5+ rear panel and to an AC power outlet.
• Check that the AC power outlet is supplying power.
• Verify that the rear panel power switch is in the ON position.
• Be sure the rear panel voltage selector matches the operating voltage in your area.
• Check the fuse in the rear panel. If the fuse needs to be replaced it is important to replace with same fuse type and value.
• Verify that the A5+ and your source components are all powered on and the volume levels are not set to minimum.

Front panel indicator light is on solid, but no sound

• Be sure the A5+ is not in MUTE or SLEEP mode (front panel indicator light flashing)
• Check cables to and from your audio sources to make sure they are working and firmly connected at both ends.

Sound through one speaker only

• heck speaker wire connections from the left (powered) speaker to the right (passive) speaker. Confirm by removing the speaker wire from on each speaker and reconnecting.
• Check that the cables from your audio sources to the A5+ are properly connected. Confirm by unplugging the audio cables and reconnecting.
• If using a computer, verify that the audio output balance setting is centered.

Lack of bass or poor imaging

•  Check speaker wire polarity by verifying that the wires are going to same terminals on both speakers.
• Make sure the speakers are not too close to a wall or other obstruction, which could limit bass output.
• Check the EQ or sound settings on your audio source.

If sound is distorted

•  Decrease the volume level of the audio input source and increase the volume of the speakers.

Remote is not working or remote range is reduced

Make sure nothing is blocking the remote receiver, which is in the left speaker.

• Check the remote battery to be sure it is installed correctly.
• Replace the battery (see back of remote control for battery type and replacement instructions)

Hum

Adding a new component could bring out hum or buzz that may not have existed before. Your first assumption may be that something may be wrong with your new gear but this is generally caused by a “ground-loop” in your system. Consider these tips for possible solutions:

• First try moving all components to the same electrical circuit or AC power outlet.
• If the hum or buzz is still present, power off all gear and remove the mini-jack and/or RCA audio cables to and from the A5+.
• Turn the A5+ back on and check for hum. If the noise is still audible try plugging the A5+ AC power cord into a different AC outlet.
• If the hum goes away while the audio cables are still disconnected, the noise is likely coming from another component in your system. Connect each component back one at a time and the one that causes the system to hum is likely the culprit.
• A common ground-loop source is from cable TV or satellite cables. If the hum or buzz persists after trying the previous tips, disconnect the coaxial cable from your cable box, TV, or DVR and if the hum goes away the cable is the cause. In this case you can get a ground-loop isolator from your local electronics store. These are inexpensive and easy to connect inline with your video cable.
• Sometimes something as simple as a portable heater or dehumidifier will add noise into your wall wiring that could be picked up by your audio gear. A dimmer switch on a halogen lamp, a wireless internet router, or cordless phone near the amplifier, for example, could also all be culprits.
• The best overall solutions are to use an AC line filter, plug the unit into a different AC circuit, or in the case of noise introduced by a wireless router, for example, move it further away from your audio gear.

A5+ Classic Quick Setup

Step 1

Although your Audioengine 5+ speakers are very forgiving with regards to placement, it’s true that proper speaker placement can have an impact on sound quality.  There seem to be different theories on correct speaker placement but rooms and tastes are different so it’s difficult to recommend a perfect setup. We do suggest you feel free to experiment to see what works for you.  As a general rule of thumb for the best soundstage and imaging, the speakers should be equidistant from side walls and a different distance from rear walls. Tweeters should be at about eye-level in your most frequent listening location and for the best bass response we recommend at least 6 inches of clearance between the rear of the speakers and the wall behind them.   Here are a few more suggestions, assuming you have some exibility regarding where you place your speakers. No need for concern if your situation and listening environment dictate the speakers’ position.

• Both speakers should be equidistant from your primary listening position.
• Placing the speakers at least 6 feet (1.8m) apart usually provides the best imaging.
• Try to keep the speakers near the front edge of shelves or cabinets.
• Allow at least 6 inches of clearance between the rear of the speakers and the wall or surface behind them.
• If you need to turn the speakers on their sides, position the tweeters toward the outside.
•  If used on a desktop for computer speakers, it’s best if they are placed on a solid surface
  

Step 2

The Audioengine 5+ speakers have amplifiers built into the left cabinet and the included speaker wire is used to connect both speakers to each other. The A5+ uses high quality, ve-way gold plated binding posts that will accept heavy gauge bare wire, banana plugs, spade lugs, or pin terminators.

1. Use your thumb and finger to unscrew the binding post connectors on the back of each speaker.
2. Insert each speaker wire into the holes on the side of binding post connectors, making sure to connect the positive (+) terminal on the left speaker to the positive (+) terminal on the right speaker.
3. Retighten the binding posts with your ngers.
4. Verify that only the exposed portion of the speaker wire is secured rmly in each connector.
5. Make sure that none of the speaker wire strands have come in contact with an adjoining terminal.

Note:As the Audioengine 5+ speaker system includes built-in power amplifiers, do not connect the speaker terminals to the speaker outputs of a stereo receiver or amplifier.

Step 3 – Connecting the Power Cord

1. Verify that the power switch on the left speaker rear panel is in the OFF position.
2. Connect that the rear panel voltage selector switch is set to the proper voltage for your area.
3. Connect the power cord into the left speaker and the other end into an AC power outlet.

1. Move the A5+ rear panel power switch to the ON position. The left speaker front panel power indicator should ash a few times then go solid.
2. Turn on your audio input source and adjust the volume to the desired listening level.
3. Adjust the A5+ speaker volume level with the volume knob on the front panel or with the included remote control.

A5+ Classic Troubleshooting Tips

The following troubleshooting tips can help diagnose and correct most concerns with the A5+ Classic. We have attempted to make this list as comprehensive as possible, so some of these may not apply to your issue, but please go through each tip.

If the power indicator on the A5+ front panel is not illuminated, then try these tips:

1. Verify that the AC power cord is connected to the speaker rear panel and to a working AC power outlet.
2. Check that the speaker’s power switch is in the ON position.
3. Check that the rear panel voltage selector matches the operating voltage in your country or region.
4. If there is still no power, check the fuse in the rear panel.  If the fuse is blown and needs to be replaced it is important to replace with same fuse type and value.

If the front panel indicator light is on but you are experiencing an audio-related or other issue, try these tips:

1. Power-cycle the speakers by switching them off and back on using the power switch on the rear panel.
2. Be sure the speakers are not in MUTE or SLEEP mode (if so, the front panel indicator light will be flashing).
3. Check that the cables from your audio sources to the speaker are properly connected.  Confirm by unplugging the audio cables and then reconnecting.  Try using as many different inputs and input sources as possible to see if the problem follows.
4. Check speaker wire connections from the left (powered) speaker to the right (passive) speaker.  Confirm by removing the speaker wire from on each speaker and reconnecting.  Also check speaker wire polarity by verifying that the wires are going to same terminals on both speakers.
5. Verify that your audio input source components or devices are all powered on and the volume levels are turned up.
6. If using a computer, verify that the audio output balance setting is centered for the OS and all apps.
7. Make sure the speakers are not too close to a wall or other obstruction, which could limit bass output.
8. Decrease the volume level of the audio input source and increase the volume of the speakers.
9. If you are using a wireless adapter, preamp, or external DAC with these speakers, remove these (temporarily) and connect the audio source directly to the speakers.
10. If your input source has its own EQ or other sound settings, make sure they are all temporarily turned off.
11. Also try moving the speakers to a different location to see if something is causing interference in the current location.  Something as simple as a wireless internet router, cordless or mobile phone, or halogen lamp near the speakers can all cause interference.
