SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  • Ensure that servicing is done by factory authorized service personnel, to minimize product damage or safety issues.
  • Consult repair manual or owner’s guide before attempting to service this product. All safety precautions must be followed.
  • Dispose of properly in accordance with federal or local regulations.
  • Follow handling instructions carefully.
  • Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance clear of obstruction.
  • Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process.
  • Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Do not store or install the appliance near continuously operating ignition sources such as open flames or a gas stove.
  • Do not operate near water or in a wet room.
  • Do not pierce or burn.
  • Be aware that refrigerants may not contain an odor.
  • The appliance must be stored so as to prevent mechanical damage from occurring.

All wiring must comply with local and national codes and must be installed by a qualifi ed electrician. Check the available power supply and resolve any wiring problems before installing and operating this appliance.
The rating plate located on the right side of the appliance just above the power cord contains electrical and other technical data.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) whose physical, sensory or mental capabilities may be different or reduced, or who lack experience or knowledge, unless such persons receive supervision or training to operate the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must be grounded. Grounding reduces the risk of electrical shock by providing an escape wire for the electrical current.
This appliance has a cord that has a grounding wire with a 3-prong plug. The power cord must be plugged into an outlet that is properly grounded. If the outlet is a 2-prong wall outlet, it must be replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. The serial rating plate indicates the voltage and frequency the appliance is designed for.

WARNING – Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock.
Consult a qualifi ed electrician or service agent if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properly grounded.

Do not connect your appliance to extension cords or together with another appliance in the same wall outlet. Do not splice the power cord. Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third ground prong from the power cord. Do not use extension cords or ungrounded (two prongs) adapters.
If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similar qualifi ed person in order to avoid hazard.

CAUTION: RISK OF FIRE
Flammable refrigerant used. When maintaining or disposing of the air conditioner, the refrigerant must not be allowed to vent into the open air.

Any person involved with working on the refrigerant circuit should hold a current, valid certifi cate from an industry accredited assessment authority which authorizes their competence to handle refrigerants safely in accordance with an industry recognized assessment specifi cation.
Servicing shall only be performed as recommended by the manufacturer. Maintenance and repair requiring the assistance of other skilled personnel shall be carried out under the supervision of the person competent in the use of flammable refrigerants.
When maintaining or disposing of the appliance the refrigerant must be recovered properly and should not be allowed to discharge to the air directly.

Information on servicing

  1. Checks to the area: Prior to beginning work on systems containing flammable refrigerants, safety checks are necessary to ensure that the risk of ignition is minimized. For repair to the refrigerating system, the following precautions shall be complied with prior to conducting work on the system.
  2. Work procedure: Work shall be undertaken under a controlled procedure so as to minimize the risk of flammable gas or vapour being present while the work is being performed.
  3. General work area: All maintenance staff and others working in the local area shall be instructed on the nature of work being carried out. Work in confi ned spaces shall be avoided. The area around the work space shall be sectioned off. Ensure that the conditions within the work area have been made safe by removing all flammable material.
  4. Checking for the presence of refrigerant: The area shall be checked with an appropriate refrigerant detector prior to and during work to ensure the technician is aware of potentially flammable atmospheres. Ensure that the leak detection equipment being used is suitable for use with flammable refrigerants, i.e. non-sparking, adequately sealed and intrinsically safe.
  5. Presence of fi re extinguisher: If any hot work is to be conducted on the refrigeration equipment or any associated parts, appropriate fi re extinguishing equipment shall be available
    to hand. Have a dry powder or C02 fire extinguisher adjacent to the work area.
  6. No ignition sources: No person carrying out work in relation to a refrigeration system which involves exposing any pipe work that contains or has contained flammable refrigerant shall use any sources of ignition in such a manner that it may lead to risk of fi re or explosion. All possible ignition sources including cigarette smoking, should be kept suffi ciently far away from the site of installation, repairing, removing and disposal during which flammable refrigerant can possibly be released to the surrounding space. Prior to work taking place, the area around the equipment is to be surveyed to make sure there are no flammable hazards or ignition risks. No smoking signs shall be displayed.
  7. Ventilated area: Ensure that the area is in the open or that it is adequately ventilated before breaking into the system or conducting any hot work. A degree of ventilation shall continue during the period that the work is carried out. The ventilation should safely disperse any released refrigerant and preferable expel it externally into the atmosphere.
  8. Checks to the refrigeration equipment: Where electrical components are being changed, they shall be fi t for the purpose and to the correct specifi cation. At all times the manufacturer’s maintenance and service guidelines shall be followed. If in doubt consult the manufacturer’s technical department for assistance.
    The following checks shall be applied to installations using flammable refrigerants:

    • The charge size is in accordance with the room size within which the refrigerant containing parts are installed.
    • The ventilation machinery and outlets are operating adequately and are not obstructed.
    • If an indirect refrigerating circuit is being used, the secondary circuit shall be checked for the presence of refrigerant.
    • Marking to the equipment continues to be visible and legible. Markings and signs that become illegible must be corrected.
    • Refrigeration pipe or components are installed in a position where they are unlikely to be exposed to any substance which may corrode refrigerant containing components, unless the components are constructed of materials which are inherently resistant to being corroded or are suitable protected against being corroded.
  9. Checks to electrical devices: Repair and maintenance to electrical components shall include initial safety checks and component inspection procedures. If a fault exists that could compromise safety, then no electrical supply shall be connected to the circuit until it is satisfactorily dealt with. If the fault cannot be corrected immediately but it is necessary to continue operation, an adequate temporary solution shall be used. This shall be reported to the owner of the equipment so all parties are advised.

Initial safety checks shall include:

  • That capacitors are discharged. This shall be done in a safe manner to avoid possibility of sparking.
  • That no live electrical components and wiring are exposed while charging, recovering or purging the system.
  • That there is continuity of earth bonding.

Repairs to sealed components

  1. During repairs to sealed components, all electrical supplies shall be disconnected from the equipment being worked upon prior to any removal of sealed covers, etc. If it is absolutely necessary to have an electrical supply to equipment during servicing then a permanently operating form of leak detection shall be located at the most critical point to warn of a potentially hazardous situation.
  2. To ensure that by working on electrical components the casing is not altered in such a way that the level of protection is affected, particular attention shall be paid to the following:
    • Damage to cables, excessive number of connections, terminals not made to original specifi cation, damage to seals, incorrect fitting of glands, etc.
    • Ensure the apparatus is mounted securely.
    • Ensure that seals or sealing materials have not degraded such that they no longer serve the purpose of preventing the ingress of flammable atmospheres. Replacement parts shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifi cations.

Note: The use of silicon sealant may inhibit the effectiveness of some types of leak detection equipment. Intrinsically safe components do not have to be isolated prior to working on them.

Repair to intrinsically safe components
Do not apply any permanent inductive or capacitance loads to the circuit without ensuring that this will not exceed the permissible voltage and current permitted for the equipment in use. Intrinsically safe components are the only types that can be worked on while live in the presence of a flammable atmosphere. The test apparatus shall be at the correct rating. Replace components only with parts specifi ed by the manufacturer. Other parts may result in the ignition of refrigerant in the atmosphere from a leak.

Cabling
Check that cabling will not be subject to wear, corrosion, excessive pressure, vibration, sharp edges or any other adverse environmental effects. The check shall also take into account the effects of aging or continual vibration from sources such as compressors or fans.

Detection of fl ammable refrigerants
Under no circumstances shall potential sources of ignition be used in the searching for or detection of refrigerant leaks. A halide torch or any other detector using a naked fl ame shall not be used.

Leak detection methods
The following leak detection methods are deemed acceptable for systems containing fl ammable refrigerants:

  • Electronic leak detectors shall be used to detect fl ammable refrigerants but the sensitivity may not be adequate or may need recalibration. Detection equipment shall be calibrated in a refrigerant-free area. Ensure that the detector is not a potential source of ignition and is suitable for the refrigerant used.
  • Leak detection equipment shall be set at a percentage of the LFL of the refrigerant and shall be calibrated to the refrigerant employed and the appropriate percentage of gas (25%maximum) is confi rmed.
  • Leak detection fl uids are suitable for use with most refrigerants but the use of detergents containing chlorine shall be avoided as the chlorine may react with the refrigerant and corrode the copper or pipe-work.
  • If a leak is suspected, all naked fl ames shall be removed or extinguished.
  • If a leakage of refrigerant is found which requires brazing, all of the refrigerant shall be recovered from the system or isolated by means of shut off valves in a part of the system remote from the leak. Oxygen free nitrogen (OFN) shall then be purged through the system both before and during the brazing process.

Removal and evacuation
When breaking into the refrigerant circuit to make repairs or for any other purpose conventional procedures shall be used. However, it is important that the best practice is followed since fl ammability is a consideration. The following procedures shall be adhered to:

  • Remove refrigerant.
  • Purge the circuit with inert gas.
  • Evacuate.
  • Purge again with inert gas.
  • Open the circuit by cutting or brazing.
  • The refrigerant charge shall be recovered into the correct recovery cylinders. The system shall be fl ushed with OFN to render the unit safe. This process may need to be repeated several times. Compressed air or oxygen shall not be used for this task.
  • Flushing shall be achieved by breaking the vacuum in the system with OFN and continuing to fi ll until the working pressure is achieved, then venting to atmosphere and finally pulling down to a vacuum. This process shall be repeated until no refrigerant is within the system. When the final OFN charge is used, the system shall be vented down to atmospheric pressure to enable work to take place. This operation is absolutely vital is brazing operations on the pipe-work are to take place.
  • Ensure that the outlet for the vacuum pump is not close to any ignition sources and there is ventilation available.

Charging procedures
In addition to conventional charging procedures, the following requirements shall be followed:

  • Ensure that contamination of different refrigerants does not occur when using charging equipment. Hoses or lines shall be as short as possible to minimize the amount of refrigerant contained in them.
  • Cylinders shall be kept upright.
  • Ensure that the refrigeration system is earthed prior to charging the system with refrigerant.
  • Label the system when charging is complete, if not already labeled.
  • Extreme care shall be taken not to overfi ll the refrigeration system.
  • Prior to recharging the system it shall be pressure tested with OFN. The system shall be leak tested on completion of charging but prior to commissioning. A follow up leak test shall be carried out prior to leaving the site.

Decommissioning
Before carrying out this procedure, it is essential that the technician is completely familiar with the equipment in all its detail. It is recommended good practice that all refrigerants are recovered safely. Prior to the task being carried out, an oil and refrigerant sample shall be taken in case analysis is required prior to re-use of reclaimed refrigerant. It is essential that electrical power is available before the task is commenced.

A. Become familiar with the equipment and its operation.
B. Isolate system electrically.
C. Before attempting the procedure ensure that:
• Mechanical handling equipment is available if required for handling refrigerant cylinders.
• All personal protective equipment is available and being used correctly.
• The recovery process is supervised at all times by a competent person.
• Recovery equipment and cylinders conform to the appropriate standards.
D. Pump down refrigerant system, if possible.
E. If a vacuum is not possible, make a manifold so that refrigerant can be removed from various parts of the system.
F. Make sure that cylinder is situated on the scales before recovery takes place.
G. Start the recovery machine and operate in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
H. Do not overfi ll cylinders. No more than 80%volume liquid charge.
I. Do not exceed the maximum working pressure of the cylinder, even temporarily.
J. When the cylinders have been fi lled correctly and the process is completed, make sure that the cylinders and the equipment are removed from the site promptly and all isolation valves on the equipment are closed off.
K. Recovered refrigerant shall not be charged into another refrigeration system unless it has been cleaned and checked.

Labeling
Equipment shall be labeled stating that it has been decommissioned and emptied of refrigerant. The label shall be dated and signed. Ensure that there are labels on the equipment stating the equipment contains fl ammable refrigerant.

Recovery
When removing refrigerant from a system, either for servicing or decommissioning, it is recommended good practice that all refrigerants are removed safely.
When transferring refrigerant into cylinders, ensure that only appropriate refrigerant recovers cylinders are employed. Ensure that the correct number of cylinders for holding the total system charge are available. All cylinders to be used are designed for the recovered refrigerant and labeled for that refrigerant, i.e. special cylinders for the recovery of refrigerant. Cylinders shall be complete with pressure relief valve and associated shut-off valves in good working order. Empty recovery cylinders are evacuated and, if possible, cooled before recovery occurs.

The recovery equipment shall be in good working order with a set of instructions concerning the equipment that is at hand and shall be suitable for the recovery of fl ammable refrigerants. In addition, a set of calibrated weighing scales shall be available and in good working order. Hoses shall be complete with leak-free disconnect couplings and in good condition. Before using the recovery machine, check that is it in satisfactory working order, has been properly maintained and that any associated electrical components are sealed to prevent ignition in the event of a refrigerant leak. Consult the manufacturer if in doubt.

The recovered refrigerant shall be returned to the refrigerant supplier in the correct recovery cylinder and the relevant waste transfer note shall be arranged. Do not mix refrigerants in recovery units and especially not in cylinders. If compressors or compressor oils are to be removed, ensure that they have been evacuated to an acceptable level to make certain that fl ammable refrigerant does not remain within the lubricant. The evacuation process shall be carried out prior to returning the compressor to the suppliers. Only electric heating to the compressor body shall be employed to accelerate this process. When oil is drained form a system, it shall be carried out safely.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

REQUIRED TOOLS
  1. Medium sized Phillips screwdriver
  2. Tape measure or ruler
  3. Knife or scissors
  4. Saw (in the event that the window sliders need to be cut to size)
ASSEMBLING THE WINDOW KIT
  1. Attach the air outlet adapter and the window slider adapter onto either end of the exhaust hose.
  2. Insert the air outlet adapter into the back of the appliance by placing over the air exhaust and then pushing in the direction of the arrow to lock into place.
  3. Measure the window opening where the window kit will be installed. Assemble as many sliders as necessary to fi t the window. If the length of the window requires all three sliders, use two bolts to fasten the sliders at the correct length. If the window opening is less that the minimum length of a single slider, use the slider that has the hole in it and cut it to the correct length. Make sure not to cut the end that has the hole as this is necessary to attach the exhaust hose adapter.

INSTALLING THE WINDOW KIT

The window kit can be used in either a hung window or a sliding window application. The images at the right are for a hung window. The steps for a sliding window are the same.

  1. Cut the adhesive foam seals A and B to the correct length for the window. Attach them to the window sash and frame as shown.
  2. Insert the assembled window slider kit into the window opening.
  3. Cut the non-adhesive foam seal C to match the width of the window. Insert the foam seal between the glass and the window frame to prevent air and insects from getting into the room.
  4. Attach the window slider adapter to the hole in the window slider kit.

Note: It may be easier to attach the window slider adapter to the window slider kit before placing the kit in the window.
Note: Do not over extend or bend the hose as this will impede air flow.

IMPORTANT WARNING:
Do not leave this appliance unattended in a space where people or animals who cannot react to a malfunction are located. A malfunction such as the exhaust hose becoming dislocated, can cause extreme overheating or death in an enclosed, unattended space.

LOCATION

Place the air conditioner on a smooth, level fl oor that is strong enough to support it and all included accessories.
Make sure the appliance is level to minimize noise and vibration.
The appliance must be installed near a grounded receptacle and the overfl ow drain outlet on the rear of the appliance must be accessible.
Do not cover air inlets or outlets or the remote control receiver on the control panel.
The appliance requires 45 cm (17.7 inches) of clearance on the front and sides.

The appliance requires at least 50 cm (20 inches) of clearance on the back.

CONTROL PANEL
  1. Timer button: Used to set the automatic timer.
  2. Fan button: Used to choose the fan speed.
  3. Temperature control buttons: Used to increase or decrease the set temperature.
  4. Mode button: Used to choose the mode; cool, fan or dry.
  5. Power button: Used to turn the appliance on or off.

Note: Certain functions can only be accessed through the remote control.

OPERATING MODES

Cool Mode

  • Press the mode button to choose cool mode.
  • Use the temperature control buttons to choose the desired temperature.
  • Use the fan button to choose the desired fan speed.
  • The temperature can be set within a range of 18 – 32°C (64 – 90°F).
  • The exhaust hose should be installed during cool mode to ensure the best results.

Dry Mode

  • Press the mode button to choose dry mode.
  • The fan speed will be set to auto.
  • The exhaust hose should be installed during dry mode to ensure the best results.

Fan Mode

  • Press the mode button to choose fan mode.
  • Press the fan button to choose the desired fan speed.
  • The exhaust hose does not need to be installed during fan mode.

TIMER
The timer function can be used to turn the appliance on or off after a period of time to conserve energy.

To set the timer to turn the appliance off:

  1. While the appliance is running, press the timer button. The time display will fl ash.
  2. Press the timer button to choose the number of hours before the appliance will turn off.
  3. Wait 5 seconds to confi rm the setting. The timer icon will illuminate.

To set the timer to turn the appliance on:

  1. Turn the appliance on and choose the desired mode and settings. Turn the appliance off.
  2. While the appliance is turned off, press the timer button. The time display will fl ash.
  3. Press the timer button to choose the number of hours before the appliance will turn on.
  4. Wait 5 seconds to confi rm the setting. The timer icon will illuminate.

Notes: Turning the appliance on or off at any time or adjusting the timer setting to 0 hours will cancel the timer settings.

CHILD LOCK
The child lock can be activated by pressing the temperature control buttons on the remote control at the same time for 3 seconds. The buttons on the remote control cannot be used while the child lock is active. To deactivate the child lock, press and hold the temperature control buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.
The child lock can only be activated or deactivated using the remote control.

SLEEP
The sleep function can be used to conserve energy during sleeping hours. The sleep function can only be used during cool mode.
When selected, the set temperature will increase by 1 degree per hour for 2 hours. The appliance will hold the new set temperature for 6 hours before automatically returning to normal operation.
The sleep function can only be activated with the remote control and can be canceled at any time by pressing the sleep button.

REMOTE CONTROL
  1. Power button: Used to turn the appliance on or off.
  2. Turbo button: The turbo feature is not available on this model.
  3. Temperature control buttons: Used to increase or decrease the set temperature.
  4. Timer button: Used to set the timer function.
  5. Mode button: Used to choose the mode.
  6. Swing button: The swing feature is not available on this model.
  7. Sleep button: Used to set the sleep function.
  8. Fan button: Used to set the fan speed.
  9. °C/°F button: Used to change the temperature scale between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Note: The remote control will function within a range of 7 meters (23 feet) of the appliance.

REMOTE DISPLAY

The digital display on the remote control will show the below symbols. Please note that not all features may be available on your model. If you try to use a feature that your model does not support, the appliance will default to fan mode.

REPLACING THE REMOTE BATTERIES

This air conditioner comes with two AAA batteries. Place the batteries in the remote control before use.

  1. Slide the back cover from the remote downward to expose the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the batteries, ensure to match the (+) and (-) symbols on the ends of the batteries with the symbols inside the battery compartment.
  3. Slide the battery cover back into place.

Notes:

  • The air conditioner will not respond if curtains, doors or other materials block the signal from the remote control to the unit.
  • Prevent any liquid from contact with the remote control. Do not expose the remote control to direct sunlight or heat.
  • If the infrared signal receiver on the indoor unit is exposed to direct sunlight, the air conditioner may not function properly. Use curtains to prevent the sunlight from falling on the receiver.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types.
  • Do not leave the batteries in the remote control if it is not going to be used for more than 2 months.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation.

If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  1. Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna
  2. Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver
  3. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected
  4. Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help

Changes or modifi cations not approved by the party responsible for FCC compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. This appliance complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.

Operation is subject to the following conditions:

  1. This device may not cause harmful interference.
  2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

This device complies with Canadian CAN ICES-3 (B) / NMB-3 (B)
IMPORTANT: Do not dispose of batteries as unsorted municipal waste. Refer to local laws for proper disposal of batteries.

WATER DRAINAGE
When the internal drain pan becomes full the appliance will stop operating and the display will show error code “Ft”. The air conditioning or dehumidifying action will stop but the fan may continue to operate.

Drain Plug

  1. Turn the appliance off and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Carefully move the appliance to a location where the water can be drained.
  3. Remove the drain plug and allow the water to completely drain.
  4. Replace the bottom drain plug, pressing fi rmly to ensure a tight fi t and no leaks.
  5. The “Ft” error symbol will disappear and the appliance will resume regular function once power is restored.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

CLEANING

  • Unplug the appliance before cleaning or servicing.
  • Clean the cabinet with a lukewarm damp cloth and neutral detergent. Dry the cabinet with a lint-free dry cloth.
  • Do not use gasoline, paint thinner or other chemicals to clean the appliance.
  • Do not wash the appliance directly under a tap or using a hose. It may cause electrical damage.

AIR FILTER
The filter in this appliance should be cleaned every two weeks to ensure efficient performance.
In households with animals, the air filters may need to be cleaned more often and the external grills may need to be wiped to prevent blocked air flow.

LONG-TERM STORAGE
  1. Drain all water from the appliance.
  2. Run the appliance on fan mode for half a day in a warm room to dry the inside of the appliance and prevent mold formation.
  3. Turn off the appliance and unplug it, wrap the cord and bundle it with tape.
  4. Remove the battery from the remote control.
  5. Clean the air fi lters and reinstall them.
  6. Store the appliance in a cool, dark place. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or extreme heat can shorten the lifespan of the appliance.

DISPOSAL

Odors
Odour is caused by the formation of mold or mildew on internal surfaces. This can happen when there is poor air circulation, a dirty filter or the air conditioner was not used for a period of time.

  • Ensure the filter is clean.
  • Run the unit on fan mode to remove any internal moisture.
  • Check for any blockages in the drain lines and ensure there are no obstructions.

Please give your unit a hard reboot. Unplug it and plug it back in after 15-20 minutes. This allows the unit to warm and drain if there is any frost stopping draining and go back to factory settings
For odour in a unit, we suggest using an algaecide tablet. You fi rst need to turn the unit off, remove the lower grill and fi lter from the grill at the base of the unit, and then place the tablet in base.

Square feet is calculated by multiplying the length by the width.  For example, a room that is 10 feet long by 25 feet wide is 250 square feet.

Why does my unit have three draining ports?

Units with three drainage ports are units which also feature heat mode. The bottom drainage port empties the internal pan, the middle port is for continuous drain during heat and the top port is for continuous drain during dry mode. Please consult your owner’s manual for more detail.

What are the differences between the dual hose model and the single hose?

Dual hose models have an intake and exhaust hose. With single hose models, the hose exhausts and the air that is to be conditioned is taken in from the room through the unit.

How can I prevent heat from escaping from my Danby Portable Air Conditioner hose?

There are a few things to check to ensure this doesn’t happen: Ensure that the hose is properly installed at both ends and this should minimize heat escape. Ensure the hose is not over extended. Keep the unit as close the window/patio as possible. Ensure the unit is in an area where it’s getting lots of air circulation, which allows the unit to run cooler and results in less heat escaping. If the heat is escaping from the exhaust port then the hose is either restricted or not installed properly. Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely stop all heat loss from escaping.

What does automatic mode mean?

When automatic mode is selected, this automatically sets the appropriate option for your room based on the set temperature and the ambient temperature. For example, if it is 15°C outside, the unit would flip to fan mode if the set temperature was above 15. If it is set to 25°C the unit would revert to cooling mode. The unit would not revert to cooling mode unless the temperature outside was over 25.

Why is my air conditioner not cooling my entire apartment?

Danby air conditioners are designed to cool a single room and not multiple rooms.  Any walls or doors will interfere with the air flow.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must be grounded. Grounding reduces the risk of electrical shock by providing an escape wire for the electrical current. This appliance has a cord that has a grounding wire with a 3-prong plug. The power cord must be plugged into an outlet that is properly grounded. If the outlet is a 2-prong wall outlet, it must be replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet. The serial rating plate indicates the voltage and frequency the appliance is designed for.

WARNING – Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock. Consult a qualifi ed electrician or service agent if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properly grounded.
Do not connect the appliance to extension cords, adapters or together with another appliance in the same wall outlet.
Do not splice the power cord. Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third ground prong from the power cord. If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similar qualifi ed person in order to avoid hazard.

CONTROL PANEL

  1.  Auto defrost light: The light will illuminate when frost builds up on the evaporator coils. The compressor will cycle off and the fan will continue to run until the frost melts.
  2. Bucket full light: The light will illuminate when the bucket is full or incorrectly positioned inside the cabinet. The compressor and fan operation will stop as a safety feature. When the bucket is emptied or correctly re-positioned the dehumidifi er will resume operation automatically.
  3. Display: Shows the actual (± 5% accuracy)
    room humidity level in a range of 30% to 90%. Otherwise, displays selection when programming humidity or timer.
  4. Pump button: Press to activate the drain pump. Ensure that a drain hose is connected before starting the pump.
  5. Smart dehumidify: This function will automatically adjust the humidity level with the fl uctuating room temperatures. The humidity level cannot be adjusted in this setting, it will stabilize between 45% – 55%. Press the humidity adjust buttons to cancel this feature.
  6. Filter button: The check fi lter light will illuminate after 250 hours of operation. After cleaning the fi lter, press the fi lter button to turn off the light.
  7. Continuous button: Press to activate the continuous dehumidifying operation.
  8.  Fan button: Press to select normal or high fan speed. The light will illuminate when set to high fan speed.
  9. Timer button: Press to set the timer.
  10. Humidity adjust buttons: The humidity level can be set within a range of 35% to 85% relative humidity in 5% increments. For drier air, set to a lower percentage value. For more damp air, set a higher percentage value.
  11. Power button: Press to turn the dehumidifi er on or off.

OPERATION

  • Place the dehumidifi er on a smooth, level fl oor that is strong enough to support the appliance with a full bucket of water.
  • Do not place the dehumidifi er on carpeting as this can block air fl ow around the appliance. Do not force casters to move over carpeting as the appliance can become unbalanced and spill water.
  • To maintain effi ciency, operate the appliance in an enclosed area. Keep nearby doors and windows closed.
  • Maintain a minimum clearance of 40 cm (16 inches) around the air outlets and 20 cm (8 inches) on other sides of the appliance to allow for proper air circulation.
  • The recommended ambient operating temperature is between 5°C (41°F) and 32°C (90°F).
  • Any time the appliance is placed on its back or side, it must be allowed to stand upright for 6 hours before plugging in to avoid damage to internal components.
  • The default setting is 40% and high fan speed. Depending on conditions the dehumidifi er may not start automatically under the default setting. This means the ambient humidity is less than 40%. Press the humidity adjust buttons to lower the set humidity until the it is lower than the ambient humidity.
  • For optimal performance, ensure that the humidity setting is 10% lower than the ambient humidity. It is normal for the ambient humidity to vary up to 5% above or below the set humidity.
  • It is recommended in normal conditions to set the humidity between 40-45%.
  • It is normal for the dehumidifi er to exhaust warm air from the air outlet.
  • The power cord storage band can be found in the water bucket and it can be installed by pressing it onto the back of the cabinet until it clicks.

TIMER Auto Off

  1.  When the dehumidifi er is turned on, press the timer button to activate the auto off timer.
  2. Press the humidity adjust buttons to change the set time in 0.5 hour increments up to 10 hours and then in 1 hour increments up to 24 hours.

Auto On

  1.  When the dehumidifi er is turned off, press the timer button to activate the auto on timer.
  2. Press the humidity adjust buttons to change the set time in 0.5 hour increments up to 10 hours and then in 1 hour increments up to 24 hours.

Using Auto On and Auto Off Together
The auto on and auto off timers can be used at the same time by fi rst setting one and then the other. For example, if the dehumidifi er is running, you can set the auto off timer to let it run for a set amount of time before turning off and then set the auto on timer to turn it back on at a later time. Or, if the dehumidifi er is not running, you can set the auto on timer to turn it on at a later time and then set the auto off timer to shut it off after running for a period of time. Note: The timer will not cycle the dehumidifi er on and off indefi nitely. The auto on and auto off timers will function one time and then the dehumidifi er will return to regular functioning. Turning the dehumidifi er on or off at any time or changing the timer setting to 0.0 will cancel the timer settings.

WATER REMOVAL

There are three ways to remove collected water from the appliance.
1. Water Bucket
The dehumidifi er will automatically collect condensed water in the water bucket. When the bucket is full, the compressor and fan will turn off and the full bucket indicator light will turn on. The display will show “P2”.
To empty the bucket, gently remove it from the appliance by gripping both sides and pulling outward. Be cautious when removing the bucket, it will be full and can be heavy. Do not place the water bucket directly on the fl oor. The bottom of the bucket is uneven and it will fall over and spill water. Empty the bucket and replace it in the appliance. The dehumidifi er will not function without the bucket installed. Never tamper with or attempt to defeat the water level fl oat system. Proper installation of the water bucket is crucial in maintaining reliable operation.
Note: When removing the bucket, the pump arm for the drain pump may fall down. It must be gently pushed upward back into the correct position before replacing the bucket.

2. Continuous Drain
Water can be removed using the provided connector and drain hose.
Before using any automatic drain functions,
check that all drain ports are clean. There is one drain port inside the bucket compartment of the appliance, remove the bucket to see it. There is one drain port on the back of the appliance where the drain hose attaches. All drain ports should be cleaned with a pipe cleaner prior to use. Remove the cover from the continuous drain outlet and attach the provided connector and drain hose to the back of the appliance. Direct the other end of the drain hose to a bucket or fl oor drain. Ensure that the drain hose is not bent and goes straight down from the back of the appliance. The continuous drain is only activated by gravity so any bends or upward motion in the hose will stop the water from draining. The drain hose is 2 m (6.6 feet) long. Do not connect this drain hose together with any other hose. If the drain hose is too long water may not drain completely which can lead to stagnant water and mildew build up inside the hose.
Notes:

  • Do not clean the drain ports with anything more rigid than a pipe cleaner as this can damage the appliance.
  • If the drain ports are clogged or dirty it can cause water to leak from the bottom of the appliance.
  • The continuous drain is fed by gravity alone.

WATER REMOVAL

3. Pump Drain
If the continuous drain is inconvenient, water can be removed from the appliance using the pump drain. When using the pump, the appliance will fi rst fi ll the bucket with water and then the pump arm will pump water from the bucket through the drain and out the hose. Remove the continuous drain hose from the unit and rotate back plastic cover to the continuous drain hose outlet clockwise. Peel off the fi xed tape, insert the pump drain hose into the pump drain hose outlet for depth of 15 mm at least, and make sure the hose is secure so there are no leaks. Direct the other end of the hose to a drain. Press the pump button to activate the pump function. When the bucket is full, the pump will begin to work. Ensure that the drain hose is not bent, this can stop the water from draining correctly and overwork the pump. Do not connect the provided hose together with another hose. The maximum length of the pump drain hose should be no more than 4.6 m (15 feet). If the drain hose is too long water may not drain completely which can lead to stagnant water and mildew build up inside the hose. When using the pump drain, the water bucket should be emptied every few days to ensure that the water in the bucket does not become stagnant or grow mildew. To remove the hose, press inward on the ring around the drain and pull the hose outward.

Important: If the drain pump is activated, water will exit the drain whether a hose is attached or not. Ensure that the drain pump is deactivated when the hose is removed to avoid damage to fl oor due to leaking water.

AIR FILTER

The air fi lter should be cleaned approximately every 2 weeks. The air fi lter may require more frequent cleaning if there is signifi cant dander or fur in the air.
Approximately every two weeks, the fi lter indicator light on the control panel will illuminate as a reminder to clean the fi lter. Follow the steps below to clean the fi lter and return the appliance to normal functioning.

  1. The air fi lter is located behind the rear intake grill. To remove the air fi lter, grasp the fi lter tab on the bottom of the grill and slide it downward.
  2. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove any large debris or dust build up from the air fi lter.
  3.  Wash the fi lter in lukewarm, soapy water, below 40°C (104°F), or use a neutral cleaning agent.
  4. Rinse the fi lter with clean water and dry thoroughly before reinstalling in the appliance.
  5. Press the fi lter button on the control panel to resume normal functioning.

Note: Do not operate the appliance without the air fi lter installed.

ERROR CODES

If the display panel shows any of the below error codes, unplug the appliance, let it stand for 5-10 minutes and then plug it back in. If the error persists, call for service.

  • AS – Humidity sensor error
  • ES – Temperature sensor error
  • P2 – Full bucket
  • Eb – bucket removed or not in the correct position

CLEANING

To avoid possible electric shock, ensure that the appliance is unplugged before performing any cleaning or maintenance. The outside of the appliance can be wiped clean with a soft cloth or with a lukewarm, damp cloth if necessary. Do not use gasoline, benzene, thinner or any other chemicals to clean this appliance as these substances can cause damage to the fi nish and deformation of plastic parts. Never pour water directly onto the appliance as this will cause deterioration of electrical components and wiring insulation. Ensure that the drain ports on the interior of the appliance and the drain ports on the back of the appliance are free of dirt and calcium build up.

END OF SEASON CARE

Unplug the dehumidifi er and ensure the fi lter is clean. Ensure the bucket is empty and then allow both the bucket and the dehumidifi er to dry completely before storing for the off season. It could take a few days for water inside the dehumidifi er to completely evaporate. You can speed up this process by wiping the bucket with a dry cloth and ensuring the lower drain of the dehumidifi er has been emptied. Store the dehumidifi er covered in a dry location.

DISPOSAL

This appliance may not be treated as regular household waste, it should be taken to the appropriate waste collection point for recycling of electrical components. Check for local regulatory compliance regarding approved and safe disposal of this appliance.

What is the best humidity setting?
We recommend setting your dehumidifi er between 40-45%.
Is the air that comes out of the dehumidifi er supposed to be hot?
Yes, usually this air feels warm.
Why isn’t the dehumidifi er collecting any water?
There may not be enough humidity in your environment or the relative humidity might be set higher than ambient humidity.
Does the fan run continuously?
In continuous mode, the fan will run continuously.
In smart dehumidify mode or manual mode the fan will cycle on and off.
Can I use an extension cord?
No, the dehumidifi er is built to operate using the power cord provided.
Does the timer cycle on and off forever?
The on and off timers can be used at the same time however, they will only cycle one time and then resume normal functioning.
How do I hook up my direct drain?
Remove the cover from the continuous drain outlet and attach the provided connector and drain hose to the back of the appliance. Direct the other end of the drain hose to a bucket or fl oor drain.
Does the fi lter light come on when it is dirty?
The fi lter light comes on automatically after about 250 hours of use even if the fi lter is clean. Clean the fi lter and then press the fi lter button to turn the fi lter light off.
What is the plastic piece in the bucket?
This rounded piece is called a buckle and is clipped on to the back of the dehumidifi er. It is used to wrap the power cord during long term storage of the dehumidifi er.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

WARNING

  • Installation must be performed according to the installation instructions. Improper installation can cause water leakage, electrical shock, or fi re.
  • Use only the included accessories and parts and specifi ed tools for the installation. Using non-standard parts can cause water leakage, electrical shock, fi re, and injury or property damage.
  • Make sure that the outlet you are using is grounded and has the appropriate voltage. The power cord is equipped with a three-prong grounding plug to protect against shock. Voltage information can be found on the nameplate of the unit.
  • You unit must be used in a properly grounded wall receptacle. if the wall receptacle you intend to use is not adequately grounded or protected by a  time-delay fuse or circuit breaker (the fuse of circuit breaker needed is determined by the maximum current of the unit. The maximum current is indicated on the nameplate located on the unit), have a qualifi ed electrician install the proper receptacle.
  • Install the unit on a fl at, sturdy surface. Failure to do so could result in damage or excessive noise and vibration.
  • The unit must be kept free from obstruction to ensure proper function and to mitigate safety hazards.
  • Do not modify the length of the power cord or use an extension cord to power the unit.
  • Do not share a single outlet with other electrical appliances. An improper power supply can cause fi re or electrical shock.
  • Do not install your air conditioner in a wet room such as a bathroom or laundry room. Too much exposure to water can cause electrical components to short circuits.
  • Do not install the unit in a location that may be exposed to combustible fas as this could cause fi re.
  • The unit has wheels to facilitate moving. Make sure not to use the wheels on thick carpet or to roll over objects as this could cause tipping.
  • Do not operate a unit that has been dropped or damaged.
  • The appliance with the electric heater shall have at least 1-meter space from combustible materials.
  • Do not touch the unit with wet or damp hands or when barefoot.
  • If the air conditioner is knocked over during use, turn off the unit and unplug it from the main power supply immediately. Visually inspect the unit to ensure there is no damage. If you suspect the unit has been damaged contact a technician or customer service for assistance.
  • In a thunderstorm, the power must be cut off to avoid damage to the machine due to lightning.
  • Your air conditioner should be used in such a way that it is protected from moisture. e.g. condensation, splashed water, etc. Do not place or store your air conditioner where it can fall or be pulled into water or any other liquid. Unplug immediately if this occurs.
  • All wiring must be performed strictly in accordance with the wiring diagram located inside the unit.
  • The unit’s circuit board (PCB) is designed with a fuse to provide overcurrent protection. The specifi cations of the fuse are printed on the circuit board.
  • When the water drainage function is not in use keep the upper and lower drain plugs fi only installed in the unit. The drain plugs can be a choking hazard to children.

CAUTION

  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) whose physical, sensory, or mental capabilities may be different or reduced,  or who lack experience or knowledge unless such persons receive supervision or training to operate the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.   • Do not cover or obstruct the inlet or outlet grilles.
  • Do not use this product for functions other than those described in this instruction manual.
  • Before cleaning turn off the power and unplug the unit.
  • Disconnect the power if strange sounds, smells or smoke comes from it.
  • Do not press the buttons on the control panel with anything other than your fi ngers.
  • Do not remove any fi xed covers. Never use this appliance if it is not working properly or if it has been dropped or damaged.
  • Do not operate or stop the unit by inserting or pulling out the power cord plug.
  • Do not use hazardous chemicals to clean or come into contact with the unit. Do not use the unit in the presence of infl ammable substances or vapor such as alcohol, insecticides, petrol, etc.
  • Always transport your air conditioner in a vertical position and stand on a stable, level surface during use.
  • Always contact a qualifi ed person to carry out repairs. If the damaged power supply cord must be replaced with a new power supply cord obtained from the product manufacturer and not repaired.
  • Hold the plug by the head of the power plug when removing it.
  • Turn off the appliance when not in use.

Note about fl urinated gasses

  • Fluorinated greenhouse gases are contained in hermetically sealed equipment. For specifi c information on the type, the amount and the C02  equivalent in tonnes of the fl urinated greenhouse gas on some models. Please refer to the relevant label on the unit itself.
  • Installation, service, maintenance, and repair of this unit must be performed by a certifi ed technician.
  • Product installation and recycling must be performed by a certifi ed technician.

WARNING for using R32 refrigerant

  • Do not use means to accelerate the defrosting process or to clean other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
  • The appliance shall be stored in a room without continuously operating ignition sources, for example, open fl ames, an operating gas appliance or an operating electric heater.
  • Do not pierce or burn.
  • Be aware that the refrigerants may not contain an odor.
  • The appliance should be installed, operated, and stored in a room with a fl your area according to the amount of refrigerant to be charged. For specifi c information on the type of gas and the amount, please refer to the relevant label on the unit itself. When there are differences between the label and the manual on the minimum room area description, the description on the label shall prevail.
  • Compliance with national gas regulations shall be observed.
  • Keep ventilation openings clear of obstruction.
  • The appliance shall be stored so as to prevent mechanical damage from occurring.
  • A warning that the appliance shall be stored in a well-ventilated area where the room size corresponds to the room area as specifi ed for operation.
  • Any person involved with working on the refrigerant circuit should hold a current, valid certifi cate from industry accredited assessment authority that authorizes their competence to handle refrigerants safely in accordance with industry-recognized assessment specifi cation.
  • Servicing shall only be performed as recommended by the manufacturer. Maintenance and repair requiring the assistance of other skilled personnel shall be carried out under the supervision of the person competent in the use of fl ammable refrigerants.
  • Please follow the instruction carefully to handle, install, clean and service the air conditioner to avoid any damage or hazard. Flammable refrigerant  R32 is used within this air conditioner. When maintaining or disposing of the air conditioner the refrigerant must be recovered properly and should not be allowed to discharge into the air directly.
  • No open fi re or device-like switch which may generate spark/arcing shall be around the air conditioner to avoid causing ignition of the fl ammable refrigerant used.
  • Please follow the instruction carefully to store or maintain the air conditioner to prevent mechanical damage from occurring.
  • Flammable refrigerant -R32 is used in the air conditioners. Please follow the instruction carefully to avoid any hazards. For specifi c information on the type of gas and the amount, please to the relevant label on the unit itself.
  • The appliance shall be stored in a room without continuously operating open fl games (for example an operating gas appliance) and ignition sources (for example an operating electric heater).

Storage of equipment/appliances
The storage of equipment should be in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Storage of packed (unsold) equipment
Storage package protection should be constructed such that the mechanical damage to the equipment inside the package will not cause a leak of the refrigerant charge. The maximum number of pieces of equipment permitted to be stored together will be determined by local regulations.
Information on servicing

  1. Checks to the area: Prior to beginning work on systems containing fl ammable refrigerants, safety checks are necessary to ensure that the risk of ignition is minimized. For repair to the refrigerating system, the following precautions shall be complied with prior to conducting work on the system.
  2. Work procedure: Work shall be undertaken under a controlled procedure so as to minimize the risk of a fl ammable gas or vapor being present while the work is being performed.
  3. General work area: All maintenance staff and others working in the local area shall be instructed on the nature of the work being carried out. Work in confi ned spaces shall be avoided. The area around the workspace shall be sectioned off. Ensure that the conditions within the work area have been made safe by removing all fl ammable material.
  4. Checking for the presence of refrigerant: The area shall be checked with an appropriate refrigerant detector prior to and during work to ensure the technician is aware of potentially fl ammable atmospheres. Ensure that the leak detection equipment being used is suitable for use with fl  ammable refrigerants, i.e. non-sparking, adequately sealed, and intrinsically safe.
  5. Presence of fi re extinguisher: If any hot work is to be conducted on the refrigeration equipment or any associated parts, appropriate fi re extinguishing equipment shall be available to hand. Have a dry powder or C02 fi re extinguisher adjacent to the work area.
  6. No ignition sources: No person carrying out work in relation to a refrigeration system that involves exposing any pipework that contains or has contained fl ammable refrigerant shall use any sources of ignition in such a manner that it may lead to the risk of fi re or explosion. All possible ignition sources including cigarette smoking should be kept suffi ciently far away from the site of installation, repairing, removing, and disposal during which fl ammable refrigerant can possibly be released to the surrounding space. Prior to work taking place, the area around the equipment is to be surveyed to make sure there are no fl ammable hazards or ignition risks. No smoking signs shall be displayed.
  7. Ventilated area: Ensure that the area is in the open or that it is adequately ventilated before breaking into the system or conducting any hot work.  A degree of ventilation shall continue during the period that the work is carried out. The ventilation should safely disperse any released refrigerant and preferably expel it externally into the atmosphere.
  8. Checks to the refrigeration equipment: Where electrical components are being changed, they shall be fi t for the purpose and to the correct specifi cation. At all times the manufacturer’s maintenance and service guidelines shall be followed. If in doubt consult the manufacturer’s technical department for assistance.
    The following checks shall be applied to installations using fl ammable refrigerants:
    • The charge size is in accordance with the room size within which the refrigerant-containing parts are installed.
    • The ventilation machinery and outlets are operating adequately and are not obstructed.
    • If an indirect refrigerating circuit is being used, the secondary circuit shall be checked for the presence of refrigerant.
    • Marking to the equipment continues to be visible and legible. Markings and signs that become illegible must be corrected.
    • Refrigeration pipe or components are installed in a position where they are unlikely to be exposed to any substance which may corrode refrigerant containing components unless the components are constructed of materials that are inherently resistant to being corroded or are suitably protected against being corroded.
  9. Checks to electrical devices: Repair and maintenance of electrical components shall include initial safety checks and component inspection procedures. If a fault exists that could compromise the safety, then no electrical supply shall be connected to the circuit until it is satisfactorily dealt with. If the fault cannot be corrected immediately but it is necessary to continue operation, an adequate temporary solution shall be used. This shall be reported to the owner of the equipment so all parties are advised.

Initial safety checks shall include:

  • That capacitor is discharged. This shall be done in a safe manner to avoid the possibility of sparking.
  • That no live electrical components and wiring are exposed while charging, recovering, or purging the system.
  • That there is continuity of earth bonding.

Repairs to sealed components

  1. During repairs to sealed components, all electrical supplies shall be disconnected from the equipment being worked upon prior to any removal of sealed covers, etc. If it is absolutely necessary to have an electrical supply to equipment during servicing then a permanently operating form of leak detection shall be located at the most critical point to warn of a potentially hazardous situation.
  2. To ensure that by working on electrical components the casing is not altered in such a way that the level of protection is affected, particular  attention shall be paid to the following:
    • Damage to cables, an excessive number of connections, terminals not made to original specifi cation, damage to seals, incorrect fi thing of glands,  etc.
    • Ensure the apparatus is mounted securely.
    • Ensure that seals or sealing materials have not degraded such that they no longer serve the purpose of preventing the ingress of fl ammable atmospheres. Replacement parts shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifi cations.

Note: The use of silicone sealant may inhibit the effectiveness of some types of leak detection equipment. Intrinsically safe components do not have to be isolated prior to working on them.

Repair to intrinsically safe components
Do not apply any permanent inductive or capacitance loads to the circuit without ensuring that this will not exceed the permissible voltage and currently permitted for the equipment in use. Intrinsically safe components are the only types that can be worked on while live in the presence of a fl ammable atmosphere. The test apparatus shall be at the correct rating. Replace components only with parts specifi ed by the manufacturer. Other parts may result in the ignition of refrigerant in the atmosphere from a leak.
Cabling
Check that cabling will not be subject to wear, corrosion, excessive pressure, vibration, sharp edges or any other adverse environmental effects. The check shall also take into account the effects of aging or continual vibration from sources such as compressors or fans.
Detection of fl ammable refrigerants
Under no circumstances shall potential sources of ignition be used in the searching for or detection of refrigerant leaks. A halide torch or any other detector using a naked fl ame shall not be used.

Leak detection methods
The following leak detection methods are deemed acceptable for systems containing fl ammable refrigerants:

  • Electronic leak detectors shall be used to detect fl ammable refrigerants but the sensitivity may not be adequate or may need recalibration.  Detection equipment shall be calibrated in a refrigerant-free area. Ensure that the detector is not a potential source of ignition and is suitable for the refrigerant used.
  • Leak detection equipment shall be set at a percentage of the LFL of the refrigerant and shall be calibrated to the refrigerant employed and the appropriate percentage of gas (25% maximum) is confi red.
  • Leak detection fl aids are suitable for use with most refrigerants but the use of detergents containing chlorine shall be avoided as the chlorine may react with the refrigerant and corrode the copper or pipe-work.
  • If a leak is suspected, all naked fl ames shall be removed or extinguished.
  • If leakage of refrigerant is found which requires brazing, all of the refrigerants shall be recovered from the system or isolated by means of shut-off valves in a part of the system remote from the leak.
    Oxygen-free nitrogen (OFN) shall then be purged through the system both before and during the brazing process.

Removal and evacuation

When breaking into the refrigerant circuit to make repairs or for any other purpose conventional procedures shall be used. However, it is important that the best practice is followed since fl amiability is a consideration. The following procedures shall be adhered to:

  • Remove refrigerant.
  • Purge the circuit with inert gas.
  • Evacuate.
  • Purge again with inert gas.
  • Open the circuit by cutting or brazing.
  • The refrigerant charge shall be recovered into the correct recovery cylinders. The system shall be fl ushed with OFN to render the unit safe. This process may need to be repeated several times. Compressed air or oxygen shall not be used for this task.
  • Flushing shall be achieved by breaking the vacuum in the system with OFN and continuing to fi ll until the working pressure is achieved, then venting to the atmosphere and fi nally pulling down to a vacuum. This process shall be repeated until no refrigerant is within the system. When the final OFN charge is used, the system shall be vented down to atmospheric pressure to enable work to take place. This operation is absolutely vital if brazing operations on the pipe-work are to take place.
  •  Ensure that the outlet for the vacuum pump is not close to any ignition sources and there is ventilation available.

Charging procedures

In addition to conventional charging procedures, the following requirements shall be followed:

  • Ensure that contamination of different refrigerants does not occur when using charging equipment.
    Hoses or lines shall be as short as possible to minimize the amount of refrigerant contained in them.
  • Cylinders shall be kept upright.
  • Ensure that the refrigeration system is earthed prior to charging the system with refrigerant.
  • Label the system when charging is complete, if not already labeled.
  • Extreme care shall be taken not to overfi ll the refrigeration system.
  • Prior to recharging the system, it shall be pressure tested with OFN. The system shall be leak tested on completion of charging but prior to commissioning. A follow-up leak test shall be carried out prior to leaving the site.

Decommissioning

Before carrying out this procedure, it is essential that the technician is completely familiar with the equipment in all its detail. It is recommended good practice that all refrigerants are recovered safely. Prior to the task being carried out, an oil and refrigerant sample shall be taken in case analysis is required prior to re-use of reclaimed refrigerant. It is essential that electrical power is available before the task is commenced.

A. Become familiar with the equipment and its operation.
B. Isolate system electrically.
C. Before attempting the procedure ensure that:

  • Mechanical handling equipment is available if required for handling refrigerant cylinders.
  • All personal protective equipment is available and being used correctly.
  • The recovery process is supervised at all times by a competent person.
  • Recovery equipment and cylinders conform to the appropriate standards.

D. Pump down the refrigerant system, if possible.
E. If a vacuum is not possible, make a manifold so that refrigerant can be removed from various parts of the system.
F. Make sure that the cylinder is situated on the scales before recovery takes place.
G. Start the recovery machine and operate in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
H. Do not overfi ll cylinders. No more than 80% volume liquid charge.
I. Do not exceed the maximum working pressure of the cylinder, even temporarily.
J. When the cylinders have been fi led correctly and the process is completed, make sure that the cylinders and the equipment are removed from the site promptly and all isolation valves on the equipment are closed off.
K. Recovered refrigerant shall not be charged into another refrigeration system unless it has been cleaned and checked.

Labeling

Equipment shall be labeled stating that it has been decommissioned and emptied of refrigerant. The label shall be dated and signed. Ensure that there are labels on the equipment stating the equipment contains fl ammable refrigerant.

Recovery

When removing refrigerants from a system, either for servicing or decommissioning, it is recommended good practice that all refrigerants are removed safely.
When transferring refrigerant into cylinders, ensure that only appropriate refrigerant recovers cylinders are employed. Ensure that the correct number of cylinders for holding the total system charge is available.
All cylinders to be used are designed for the recovered refrigerant and labeled for that refrigerant, i.e. special cylinders for the recovery of refrigerant.  Cylinders shall be complete with a pressure relief valve and associated shut-off valves in good working order. Empty recovery cylinders are evacuated and, if possible, cooled before recovery occurs.
The recovery equipment shall be in good working order with a set of instructions concerning the equipment that is at hand and shall be suitable for the recovery of fl ammable refrigerants. In addition, a set of calibrated weighing scales shall be available and in good working order. Hoses shall be complete with leak-free disconnect couplings and in good condition. Before using the recovery machine, check that is it in satisfactory working order,  has been properly maintained, and that any associated electrical components are sealed to prevent ignition in the event of a refrigerant leak. Consult the manufacturer if in doubt.
The recovered refrigerant shall be returned to the refrigerant supplier in the correct recovery cylinder and the relevant waste transfer note shall be arranged. Do not mix refrigerants in recovery units and especially not in cylinders. If compressors or compressor oils are to be removed, ensure that they have been evacuated to an acceptable level to make certain that fl ammable refrigerant does not remain within the lubricant. The evacuation process shall be carried out prior to returning the compressor to the suppliers.
Only electric heating to the compressor body shall be employed to accelerate this process. When oil is drained from a system, it shall be carried out  safely.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

LOCATION
This air conditioner is designed for single or double-hung windows. Since window designs vary, it may be necessary to make some modifi cations for safe installation.
This air conditioner is not designed for vertical, slider-type windows or “through the wall” installation.
Ensure that the window and frame are structurally sound and free from dry or rotted wood.

Install the air conditioner in a window on a side of the building which favors more shade than sunlight. If the appliance must be in direct sunlight, it is advisable to provide a shade awning over the appliance to ensure effi client functioning.
Do not install the appliance where leakage of combustible gas is suspected.
This appliance is designed to evaporate condensation under normal conditions. Under extremely hot or humid conditions, excess condensation may overfl ow to the outside.
The appliance should be installed where condensation cannot drip on pedestrians or neighboring properties.
Provide suffi client clearance around the appliance to allow ample air circulation. The rear of the appliance should be outdoors, it should not be in a  garage or another room. Keep the appliance away from obstacles and at least 76 cm (30 inches) above the ground. Ensure that curtains and other obstructions do not block air fl ow to the appliance.

REQUIRED TOOLS

ACCESSORIES

The following accessories are included with the appliance and should be used during the installation.

  1. 13 mm (1/2 inch) screws (x7)
  2. 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) screws (x4) (Factory-installed on some models.)
  3. Safety Lock

  6. “L” shaped mounting bracket (Factory-installed on some models.)
  7. Bracket for wood windows (x2)
  8.  Bracket for vinyl windows (x2)
  9. Weatherstripping (x5)

INSTALLATION
Attach the side curtains to the appliance by sliding the curtain frame into the side channel of the cabinet. The curtains are labeled “left” and “right on the frames. This refers to the left and right sides of the appliance when facing the front of the appliance.
Cut the regular foam seal to fi t the area of the window sill that the air conditioner will rest on.
Place the air conditioner into the window with the “L”  shaped mounting bracket positioned in front of the upper sash. The bottom of the cabinet should be positioned on the recessed portion of the window frame. Pull the upper window sash down until it rests just behind the front fl ange of the “L” shaped mounting bracket.

Expand the side curtains on each side and secure the top of the frames to the window sash using one 13 mm (1/2”) screw on each side of the “L”  shaped mounting bracket.
Attach the clamps on the lower part of each curtain to the window sill using one 13 mm (1/2”) screw on each side of the cabinet.
Place the adhesive foam seal into the opening between the inside and outside windows and attach the safety lock to the outside window frame using two 13 mm (1/2”) screws.

Check the Tilt Angle

The air conditioner should be tilted down towards the outside approximately 3° to 4°. This tilt will encourage any condensed water to drain to the outside. If any condensed water leaks to the inside of the house, check the tilt angle and adjust as necessary.

Measure the tilt angle from the front of the cabinet’s edge. The difference in height between the front and the back of the appliance, labeled “A” on the  image below, should be approximate:

  • 2.5 cm – 3.5 cm (1” – 1 3/8”)

L BRACKET
The “L” shaped bracket may come factory installed on some models.
If the “L” shaped bracket is not pre-installed, attach it to the top of the cabinet as shown below using the provided 9.5 mm (3/8”) screws (x4).

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

CONTROL PANEL

  1. Remote Control Receiver: Ensure this receiver is not obscured by curtains or other items as it could impact remote control functioning.
  2. Follow Me Indicator Light: Illuminates when the Follow Me function is active. Follow Me can only be set from the remote control.
  3. Power Button: Used to turn the appliance on or off.
  4. Mode Button: Used to choose the operating mode.

REMOTE CONTROL BATTERIES

The remote control requires two AAA alkaline batteries (included). Batteries should be replaced when:

  • No sound is heard when attempting to program the appliance.
  • The appliance does not respond to a command issued by the remote control.

Battery replacement:

  1. Slide the rear cover on the remote in the direction of the arrow.
  2. Insert two AAA batteries following the same orientation depicted inside the battery chamber (+/-).
  3. Reinstall the rear cover.
  4. If the remote control will not be used for extended periods of time, the batteries should be removed.

Notes:

  • Protect the remote control from high temperatures, and keep it away from radiation exposure.
  • Keep the control panel receiver out of direct sunlight.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc), or rechargeable (ni-cad, ni-mh,etc) batteries.
  • The remote operates within a range of 8 meters (26 ft.) from the receiver located inside the main appliance. Any obstruction between the receiver and remote may cause signal interference, limiting the ability to program the main unit.

OPERATING MODES

There are four operating modes to choose from. Press the mode button repeatedly to choose the desired mode. The adjacent indicator light will illuminate to show which mode has been selected.

  • Cool Mode
    Choose the cool mode to set the cooling function. Use the temperature control buttons to choose the desired temperature. When the cool mode is selected, the fan speed can be adjusted by pressing the fan button.
  • Dry Mode
    Choose dry mode to remove excess moisture from the air during periods of high humidity. All water pulled from the air will condense inside the appliance and drain out the back. The fan speed
    will be automatically set and cannot be modifi ed in dry mode.
  • Fan Mode
    Choose fan mode to run the internal fan without engaging the cooling function. Press the fan button repeatedly to choose the fan speed.
  • Auto Mode
    Auto mode is a pre-set factory program that automatically defi nes the mode and fan speed based on the set temperature, the ambient temperature, and the ambient humidity.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL BUTTONS
The temperature control buttons will modify the set temperature in 1° increment. The temperature control buttons will modify the set time of the timer function in 0.5-hour increments up
to 10 hours and then in 1-hour increments up to 24 hours maximum.

SLEEP
The sleep function can be used to conserve energy during sleeping hours. When selected, the set temperature will increase by 1°C/2°F every half hour for one full hour. The appliance will hold the new set temperature for 6 hours before automatically returning to normal operation. The Sleep Function can be canceled at any time by pressing the Sleep Button.

ENERGY SAVER
The energy saver function will automatically cycle the fan on and off when the compressor is not in use to minimize how often the compressor needs to turn on.
When selected, the fan will continue to run for 3 minutes after the compressor turns off. The fan will then cycle on for 2 minutes in 10-minute intervals until the ambient temperature is above the set temperature, at which point the compressor will turn on and cooling will resume.

FOLLOW ME

There is a temperature sensor built into the remote control that will monitor the room temperature. Keep the remote control with you and the appliance will automatically adjust the set temperature based on the temperature where you are located.
The remote will display the temperature at its location. The remote will send a signal to the air conditioner every 3 minutes, so long as you remain within the range of the appliance.
The follow-me light on the control panel will illuminate for 5 seconds every 3 minutes to indicate that it has received a signal from the remote. If the appliance does not receive a signal from the remote during any 7-minute interval it will beep to indicate that the follow me mode has ended.
The maximum distance for the follow-me feature is 8 meters (26 feet). This feature is available in cool and auto modes.

TIMER

The timer can be used to turn the appliance on or off after a set period of time.
The control panel has one timer button. Press once to set the auto-off timer and twice to set the auto-off timer. The remote control has a separate timer on and timer off buttons.

Auto On Timer

  1. Press the timer on the button on the remote or press the timer button on the control panel twice.
  2. Use the temperature control buttons to select the desired amount of time before the appliance should turn on.
  3. Use the mode button to select the desired mode.
  4. Use the fan button to select the desired fan speed.
  5. The time selected will appear on the display panel and will count down until the appliance turns on.

Auto-Off Timer

  1. Press the timer off button on the remote or press the timer button on the control panel once.
  2. Use the temperature control buttons to select the desired amount of time before the appliance should turn off. The appliance will run in the currently selected mode.
  3. The time selected will appear on the display panel and will count down until the appliance turns off.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

AIR FILTER

The air fi filter should be cleaned approximately every 2 weeks. The air fi later may require more frequent cleaning if there is signifi cant dander or fur in the air.
Approximately every two weeks, the fi filter indicator light on the control panel will illuminate as a reminder to clean the fi later. Follow the steps below to clean the fi later and return the appliance to normal functioning.

  1. The air fi filter is located behind the front intake grill. To remove the air fi later, grasp the grille on both sides and gently pull forward and then remove the fi lter.
  2. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove any large debris or dust build-up from the air fi later.
  3. Wash the fi later in lukewarm, soapy water, below 40°C (104°F), or use a neutral cleaning agent.
  4. Rinse the fi later with clean water and dry thoroughly before reinstalling in the appliance.
  5. Press the fi later button on the control panel to resume normal functioning.

Note: Do not operate the appliance without the air fi lter installed.

ERROR CODES
If the display panel shows any of the below error codes, unplug the appliance, let it stand for 5-10 minutes, and then plug it back in. If the error persists, call for service.
AS Ambient temperature sensor error
ES – Evaporator temperature sensor error
E4 – Display board communication error
Lo – Room temperature is lower than 0°C (32°F)
HI- Room temperature is higher than 37°C (99°F)

CLEANING
To avoid possible electric shock, ensure that the appliance is unplugged before performing any cleaning or maintenance.
The outside of the appliance can be wiped clean with a soft cloth or with a lukewarm, damp cloth if necessary.
Do not use gasoline, benzene, thinner or any other chemicals to clean this appliance as these substances can cause damage to the fi nish and deformation of plastic parts.
Never pour water directly onto the appliance as this will cause deterioration of electrical components and wiring insulation.

END OF SEASON CARE
Before removing the appliance from service for the year, operate the appliance on high fan mode for half a day to ensure the inside of the appliance is dry. This will help avoid the growth of mold or mildew inside the appliance. Ensure the fi filter is clean and dry. Store the appliance covered in a dry location.
Note: When installing or removing the appliance from the window, ensure that caution is taken to prevent it from falling backward. It is recommended that installation or removal is completed with assistance to prevent injury to persons or damage to property or the appliance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I leave my AC in place through the winter?
This is not recommended. Please bring your AC unit indoors during the winter months.
What are the standard wattage and amps used?
Information pertaining to watts and amps can be found on the rating plate located on the side of the unit.
When should I use the exhaust hose?
The exhaust should be used in cool, dry, and heat modes. It is not required in fan mode.
Can I use an extension cord?
No, an extension cord may not be used.
Is there supposed to be Styrofoam in the unit?
The Styrofoam that is inside the unit acts as insulation. Do not remove it. Only remove loose packaging.
Why do I hear water in the unit?
Water is collected during the air conditioning process. This water will drain out of the unit and onto the ground and is why the unit should be installed on a slight downward tilt.
How much does it cost to run the unit?

Odors
Odour is caused by the formation of mold or mildew on internal surfaces. This can happen when there is poor air circulation, a dirty fi later, or the air conditioner was not used for a period of time.

  • Ensure the fi filter is clean.
  • Run the unit on fan mode to remove any internal moisture.
  • Check for any blockages in the drain lines and ensure there are no obstructions.

Please give your unit a hard reboot. Unplug it and plug it back in after 15-20 minutes. This allows the unit to warm and drain if there is any frost-stopping draining and go back to factory settings For odor in a unit, we suggest using an algaecide tablet. You fi first need to turn the unit off, remove the lower grill and fi later from the grill at the base of the unit, and then place the tablet in base.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Appliance will not operate

  • Plug is not fully inserted into the wall outlet
  • Blown fuse or circuit breaker

Insuffi cient cooling

  • Air fi filter is dirty
  • Blocked air fl ow
  • The appliance size is too small for the application

Noise

  • Inadequate support in window installation; double check that all screws are tight and the installation is secure.

Water dripping inside

  • The appliance is not properly angled to allow water to drain to the outside

Water dripping outside

  • On very hot or humid days dripping water from the back of the appliance is normal

Frost build-up

  • When outdoor temperatures are below 18.3°C (65°F) frost may form when the appliance is in cooling mode
  • Switch the appliance to fan-only mode until the frost melts

LIMITED “IN-HOME” WARRANTY

This quality product is warranted to be free from the manufacturer’s defects in material and workmanship, provided that the unit is used under the normal operating conditions intended by the manufacturer.
This warranty is available only to the person to whom the unit was originally sold by Danby Products Limited (Canada) or Danby Products Inc. (U.S.A.) (hereafter “Danby”) or by an authorized distributor of Danby, and is non-transferable.

TERMS OF WARRANTY

Plastic parts are warranted for thirty (30) days from the date of purchase, with no extensions provided.

First 24 months
During the first twenty-four (24) months, any functional parts of this product found to be defective will be repaired or replaced, at the warrantor’s option, at no charge to the original purchaser.

To obtain service
Contact the dealer where the unit was purchased, or contact the nearest authorized Danby service depot, where service must be performed by a qualified service technician. If service is performed on the unit by anyone other than an authorized service depot, all obligations of Danby under this warranty shall be void.

Boundaries of in-home service
Danby reserves the right to limit the boundaries of “In-Home Service” to the proximity of an authorized service depot.
Any appliance requiring service outside the limited boundaries of “In-Home Service”, will be the consumer’s responsibility to transport at their own expense to the original point of purchase or a service depot for repair. If the appliance is installed in a location that is 100 kilometers (62 miles) or more from the nearest service center, it must be delivered to the nearest authorized Danby Service Depot by the purchaser.

Transportation charges to and from the service location are not protected by this warranty and are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Nothing within this warranty shall imply that Danby will be responsible or liable for any spoilage or damage to food or other contents of this appliance, whether due to any defect of the appliance, or its use, whether proper or improper. 

EXCLUSIONS

Save as herein provided, by Danby, there are no other warranties, conditions, representations or guarantees, express or implied, made or intended by Danby or its authorized distributors and all other warranties, conditions, representations or guarantees, including any warranties, conditions, representations or guarantees under any Sale of Goods Act or like legislation or statute is hereby expressly excluded. Save as herein provided, Danby shall not be responsible for any damages to persons or property, including the unit itself, howsoever caused or any consequential damages arising from the malfunction of the unit and by the purchase of the unit, the purchaser does hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless Danby from any claim for damages to persons or property caused by the unit.

GENERAL PROVISIONS

No warranty or insurance herein contained or set out shall apply when damage or repair is caused by any of the following:

  1. Power failure.
  2. Damage in transit or when moving the appliance.
  3. Improper power supply such as low voltage, defective house wiring or inadequate fuses.
  4. Accident, alteration, abuse or misuse of the appliance such as inadequate air circulation in the room or abnormal operating conditions (ie. extremely high or low room temperature).
  5. Use for commercial or industrial purposes (it If the appliance is not installed in a domestic residence).
  6. Fire, water damage, theft, war, riot, hostility, acts of God such as hurricanes, floods etc.
  7. Service calls resulting in customer
  8. Improper Installation (ie. Building-in of a free-standing appliance or using an appliance outdoors that is not approved for outdoor application, including but not limited to: garages, patios, porches, or anywhere that is not properly insulated or climate-controlled).

Proof of purchase date will be required for warranty claims; retain bills of sale. In the event that warranty service is required, present the proof of purchase to our authorized service depot.
