In-Wall/in-Ceiling Speaker Installation

CHOOSING THE INSTALLATION LOCATION FOR YOUR LOUDSPEAKERs

The in-ceiling loudspeakers are designed to be installed in any standard ceiling.lf you are unsure of the mount- ing location or correct installation techniques or type of speaker wiring to use, consult a professional audio specialist or a building contractor for assistance. The goal is to get the best stereo effect possible from the loudspeakers. To achieve this we recommend placing both loudspeakers at equal distance from the listener and 6-10 ft apart from each other. Avoid installing them near corners or reflective surfaces to prevent diffracted sound.

When determining the location for the loudspeaker cutout, keep in mind that mounting arms will extend 3/4inch beyond the cutout. Make sure that you do not place the edge of the cutout directly next to a ceiling joist. Locate the joists using a stud sensor or by hand knocking.

Important
Before you cut into any wall, inspect the location of where the speakers are to be installed and be very careful not to drill through existing wires, pipes, or structures. If you feel any extra resistance as you are drilling. please stop.

INSTALLATION

When running loudspeaker wires inside walls or ceilings, use the special jacketed cable to protect the wire and for ire prevention.

  1. Once you have determined the mounting installation location for the speakers, drill the cutout hole for the speakers.
  2. At each speaker location, route the wire to the input connectors, then separate the loudspeaker wire so that at least 2 inches of each conductor are free. Strip away 1/4inch of insulation from each individual loudspeaker wire.
  3. Press down each spring-loaded connector one at a time, insert the appropriate conductor and then release the connector. check to be sure that the conductor is making contact with the stripped wire and not the wire jacket. Gently tug on the loudspeaker wire to make sure it is held in place. if not, repeat this procedure.

Observe correct polarity: Positive(+) goes to the red post and negative(-) goes to the black post.

  • Insert the loudspeaker into the hole by carefully holding it with both hands and angling it slowly into the hole until the frame is f woofer or tweeter) use a cordless drill to begin mounting Opusn against
  • Tighten the four screws. Use low torque and low speed or you may damage the loudspeaker. This should pull the frame and mount together (sandwiching the drywall) so that the frame is absolutely flush with the wall surface. There should be no gaps between the wall and the frame.

Do not over-tighten the screws! Over tightening them may make the grille difficult to install

  • Install the grille by simply pushing the grille evenly into the hole until it snaps in place.
  • Connect the other end of each loudspeaker wire to the receiver (or amplifier) carefully observing polarity.
  • Turn on the receiver or amplifier and test all loudspeakers in the system.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I wire the hds10 sub with the ws1005 amp to my receiver that has a single sub out? Nothing is working
I just wired the sub in parallel to the center channel. That worked for me.
  • What type of connection are these?
The one I just bought, has flat pins, like car speakers. It came with speaker wire, with clips on the end, that attached to the pins.
  • May you measure the outer circular part of the woofer without the faceplate and tell me the dimension?
I actually installed mine in a custom box yesterday. The outer diameter is about 9 1/2″, the frame is tapered however so the whole you would need to mount the speaker in needs to be about 9 1/8″.
  • Can i hook this up 4 ohm?
Yes, if your amp is rated at 4 ohms minimum impedance, you certainly can hook it up to an 8 ohm speaker. Actually, you could connect two speakers in parallel, because 1/((1/8)+(1/8))=4oh
  • How in the world do I hook these up? Can I use 14 gauge wire?!
Simply run a negative and positive to your power source. Make sure they are secure in whatever in wall area you use. And yes you can use 14g wire
  • Does this need a box inside of the wall or something like that?
No need to have the speaker inside a box for instalL.
  • How to connect this to my Yamaha Rx-v777?, which has 3 sub plugs. This come with 2 wire connectors, need an adaptor cable to convert to a plug? Tks!
A Passive subwoofer requires a dedicated subwoofer amp like the Acoustic Audio WS1005 Passive Subwoofer Amp. This takes the RCA signal from the receiver’s SUB out and then has raw wire-outs to go to the sub. The amp has your gain and frequency controls on it as well. You’ll need one amp for each sub.
  • Sorry, I’m a little uneducated on this… i have an Onkyo TX-SR333 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Bluetooth. Does that help?
You need a separate amp for these speakerS.
  • How did you know how to wire this? Mine didn’t come with any indication on which is negative or positive? Positive and negative are not correct. The only reason to concern yourself about wiring is if you are installing stereo speakers and you want them in phase. Then you make sure that the same wire lead attaches to the amplifier in the same fashion that the other stereo speaker is attached.
  • Is the a pair or single?
Single. a great speaker for the price.
  • Does this have a cross-over?
No, it does not, you can buy an external Xover or use the subwoofer pre-out to another amplifier from your av receiver. I am using the Yamaha rxv675 receiver for my ceiling speakers. For the subwoofer, i am using the Behringer epq450 and to send the signal to this amp i am wired to the subwoofer pre-out from the Yamaha receiver.
