CAUTION

This product has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation.

This product generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.

However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this product does cause harmful interference to radio or television, which can be determined by turning the product off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

The available scientific evidence does not show that any health problems are associated with using low power wireless devices. There is no proof, however, that these low power wireless devices are absolutely safe. Low power Wireless devices emit low levels of radio frequency energy (RF) in the microwave range while being used.

Whereas high levels of RF can produce health effects (by heating tissue), exposure of low-level RF that does not produce heating effects causes no known adverse health effects. Many studies of low-level RF exposures have not found any biological effects. Some studies have suggested that some biological effects might occur, but such findings have not been confirmed by additional research.

The “INSTAX Mini 11” has been tested and found to comply with FCC
radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment and meets the FCC radio frequency (RF) Exposure Guidelines.

How many pictures can be taken with one film pack?

About 10 pictures can be taken with one film pack. However, it depends on how much you use the flash, and how much time passes between shots. If you use the flash often, or if there is a long time between shots, fewer pictures will be possible than if you use the flash infrequently and shoot close-ups without much time passing between shots. If you use all of your film packs without recharging them, fewer pictures will be possible than if you recharge your batteries often and take several shots per film pack charge cycle. Additionally, it is not recommended that you leave your camera turned on for an extended period of time while not taking photos; doing so will cause your batteries to discharge more quickly than normal and may shorten their lifespan significantly. If left unused for an extended period of time with batteries installed, your camera may leak battery fluid or become damaged by battery leakage; please remove your batteries from your camera when not using it for an extended period of time or before storing it for an extended period of time (such as during winter). FUJIFILM Digital Camera FinePix S5000
Imaging and Information Manual

The FinePix S5000:
Designed for Photographic Performance, Engineered for Exceptional Image Quality

The 4th-Generation Super CCD HR

Incorporating the latest 1/2.7-inch 4th-Generation Super CCD HR, the FinePix S5000 utilizes 3.1 million effective pixels for superb quality images of up to 2816 × 2120 (6.0 million) recording pixels. By boosting resolution through Fujifilm’s proprietary advanced miniaturization technology, the 4th-Generation Super CCD HR excels at reproducing highly detailed subject information. Together with its highly optimized image processor, this new photosensor ensures greater sensitivity, higher signal-to-noise ratio, and superbly true-to-life color reproduction, for images that are simply breathtaking.

Massive 22✕zoom range (10✕optical,2.2✕digital)

The FinePix S5000 features a new, high-performance 10✕ Fujinon zoom lens covering a remarkable focal length range of 37 – 370mm (35mm camera equivalent). Need to zoom in even more? The 2.2✕* digital zoom boosts total magnification up to 22✕, or a focal length equivalent of approximately 814mm. The optional 0.79✕ Wide Conversion lens and 1.5✕ Tele Conversion lens extend your shooting range even further. And newly designed Fujinon optics minimize chromatic aberration to assure crisp, clear, sharp images at all zoom settings.
* 1280 × 960-pixel mode

Sample images in this brochure were taken with the FinePix S5000. (Excepting product shots)

Astonishing 22 ✕ Zooming Performance and SLR-Like Camera Design:

A Digital Camera That Inspires Photographic Confidence

Versatile exposure controls

The FinePix S5000 provides a choice of six exposure modes: Auto mode [AUTO] for the ultimate in ease, plus Programmed AE [P], Aperture-Priority AE [A] (a range of 13 aperture settings, from F2.8 to F8), Shutter-Priority AE [S] (1/1000 to 2 seconds), Manual [M], and Scene Position [SP] mode. The latter gives you instant access to four special preset program modes: Portrait, Landscape, Sports and Night Scene. To handle the widest possible variety of light conditions, the camera also offers three light metering choices: 64-TTL Multi, Spot, and Average.

Accurate, high-speed AF system

The FinePix S5000 employs a state-of-the-art AF system to make autofocus quicker and more precise than ever. An AF-Assist Illuminator* ensures accurate focus in low light or night scenes. And the AF Area Focus system lets you focus on specific areas within the frame, making composition easier and more flexible.

* Effective at 2m range

Wide range of ISO settings

With the FinePix S5000, you’re free to select an ISO-equivalent sensitivity of AUTO, 200, 400 or a very high-speed 800*, depending on subject and shooting conditions. The higher ISO settings excel at fast action and non-flash shooting in low-light conditions, as well as helping to prevent camera shake.

* When ISO 800 is selected, resolution is automatically set to 1280 x 960 pixels.

High-speed continuous shooting

To capture fast-moving subjects, the FinePix S5000 offers three high-speed continuous shooting modes: “Top 5-frame”
Continuous Shooting (5 frames/second when shutter button is pressed), “Final 5-frame” Continuous Shooting (5 frames/second just before shutter button is released*), and 1280 × 960-pixel “Long-period” Continuous Shooting (1.6 frames/second for up to 40 frames).

* While you can shoot up to 40 frames (5 frames/second for 8 seconds) in this continuous mode, only the five frames just before the shutter button is released are actually captured.

Manual shooting functions

For total creative freedom, the FinePix S5000 gives you a wide range of manual controls. They include manual white balance, exposure compensation (–2 to +2 EV in 1/3-EV increments), ISO sensitivity setting, auto-exposure bracketing, macro shooting (as close as 10cm), slow-synchro shooting, and more.

CCD-RAW data recording

In addition to the standard JPEG format, the FinePix S5000 can save captured images in CCD-RAW file format*. This option is especially valuable when you want to preserve the uncompressed image data.

* CCD-RAW files can be converted into TIFF files with the included RAW File Converter LE software.

Photo Mode button

A new Photo Mode button gives you control over all image quality parameters, including sensitivity (AUTO or MANUAL: ISO equivalent 200, 400, and 800), and color (Standard, Chrome, and B&W). The Chrome color setting, for example, slightly boosts contrast and saturation for a look that resembles color slide film. When reviewing images, this control can also be used to set DPOF for printing.

Movie recording function

The FinePix S5000’s movie mode offers about 14.6 minutes* of continuous video at a full 30 frames/second and including sound. Captured video images are smooth and highly detailed, and recorded in the Motion JPEG (AVI) format, so that you can also enjoy viewing each frame as a high-quality still image.

* When using a 512MB xD-Picture Card™ (DPC-512)

User-friendly 110,000-pixel electronic viewfinder

The user-friendly, high-resolution 110,000-pixel LCD electronic viewfinder (EVF) gives you a clear, bright preview of fully 90% of the frame. It also displays full information for each shot, including shot number, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO setting. For optimal viewing for any eyesight, the EVF includes a diopter adjustment dial.

Alternatively, you can switch the view to the large LCD display on the back of the camera. It employs a high-resolution 1.5-inch LCD monitor for crystal-clear, glare-free images.

Multi-language LCD display

The LCD menu can be displayed in any of six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, or Japanese. In addition to its multilingual talents, the FinePix S5000 is compatible with both PAL and NTSC video formats, so your camera is at home any- where in the world.

xD-Picture Card™ support

Actual size

The FinePix S5000 is designed around the xD-Picture Card™ memory standard. Capacity of up to 512MB lets you record high-resolution images without worrying about memory limitations. With a compatible USB card reader or PC/CompactFlash™ card adaptor, xD-Picture Cards can be swapped freely among a wide range of computers and other devices.

Low power consumption for long battery life

Thanks to its power-saving design, the FinePix S5000 is capable of taking up to 260 shots* on a single set of four AA alkaline batteries.

* With the LCD turned off and using the flash for 50% of shots

SLR-like body design and great operational layout

The new body styling of FinePix S5000 combines smooth contours and comfortable ergonomics. The intelligent layout of the dial and buttons on top cover of camera makes operation remarkably simple and straightforward. Even high-end SLR camera enthusiasts will feel that here at last is a digital camera that inspires real photographic confidence.

  • This camera may occasionally malfunction because it is controlled by a micro computer. If it malfunctions, remove the batteries and then reinsert them to reset the camera.

Handling of INSTAX Mini Film and Photos

For details on the handling of film and photos, see the instructions of FUJIFILM INSTAX Mini instant film.

  • Keep film a cool place. In particular, do not leave film in an extremely hot place, such as in a closed motor vehicle, for a long period of time.
  • Use film as soon as possible after inserting it in the camera.
  • If film has been kept in a place where the temperature is extremely low or high, allow it to become accustomed to a normal temperature before taking pictures.
  • Use film before the film expiration date referenced on the package.
  • Avoid airport checked luggage inspection and other strong X-ray exposure. Unused film is susceptible to the effect of fogging, etc. We recommend that you carry film onto aircraft in carry-on luggage (check with the relevant airport for more information).
  • Avoid exposing photos to strong light, and store them in a cool and dry place.
  • Do not make a hole in film or tear or cut film. Do not use film that is damaged.
  • Do not cut or disassemble the film for this camera as it contains black caustic alkali paste. Be especially careful not to let infants or pets put the film into their mouths. Also take care that the paste does not come into contact with skin and clothes.
  • If you accidentally touch the paste of unused film, immediately wash it off with plenty of water. If the paste comes into contact with the eyes or mouth, wash the area and then seek medical attention. The alkalinity of this film will weaken approximately 10 minutes after the photo is ejected from the camera.

Handling

  • Handling of Camera
  1. The camera is a precision instrument, so do not get it wet, drop it, or subject it to shock. Also, do not place the camera where it will be exposed to sand, dirt, dust or other particles.
  2. Before using a commercially available strap, check the strength of the strap. Be especially careful when using a strap for mobile phones and smartphones because such straps are made for lightweight devices.
  3. If you are not using your camera for a long interval, unload the batteries and keep it where it will avoid heat, dust and moisture.
  4. Remove soil and dust from the viewfinder window, etc. with an air blower or by wiping gently with a piece of soft cloth.
  5. Do not use solvent such as thinner or alcohol to wipe off dirt.
  6. Do not leave the camera in a closed motor vehicle, another hot place, a humid place, on the beach, etc. for any period of time.
  7. Moth repellent gas such as naphthalene will adversely affect the camera and film. Avoid keeping the camera and film in a chest of drawers, etc. with mothballs.
  8. The operating temperature range of this camera is 41°F (+5°C) to 104°F (+40°C).
  9. This camera may occasionally malfunction because it is controlled by a micro computer. If it malfunctions, remove the batteries and then reinsert them to reset the camera.
  • Handling of INSTAX Mini Film and Photos

For details on the handling of film and photos, see the instructions of FUJIFILM INSTAX Mini instant film.

  1. Keep film a cool place. In particular, do not leave film in an extremely hot place, such as in a closed motor vehicle, for a long period of time.
  2. Use film as soon as possible after inserting it in the camera.
  3. If film has been kept in a place where the temperature is extremely low or high, allow it to become accustomed to a normal temperature before taking pictures.
  4. Use film before the film expiration date referenced on the package.
  5. Avoid airport checked luggage inspection and other strong X-ray exposure. Unused film is susceptible to the effect of fogging, etc. We recommend that you carry film onto aircraft in carry-on luggage (check with the relevant airport for more information).
  6. Avoid exposing photos to strong light, and store them in a cool and dry place.
  7. Do not make a hole in film or tear or cut film. Do not use film that is damaged.
  8. Do not cut or disassemble the film for this camera as it contains black caustic alkali paste. Be especially careful not to let infants or pets put the film into their mouths. Also take care that the paste does not come into contact with skin and clothes.
  9. If you accidentally touch the paste of unused film, immediately wash it off with plenty of water. If the paste comes into contact with the eyes or mouth, wash the area and then seek medical attention. The alkalinity of this film will weaken approximately 10 minutes after the photo is ejected from the camera.

COMMON SENSE CAMERA CARE

CAMERA CARE

  1. Your camera is a precision instrument. Do not get it wet or drop it. Also, do not expose to sand.
  2. Do not use a strap made for cellular phones or other similar electronic products. These straps are usually too weak to hold your camera securely. For safety, use only straps designed for your camera, and use only as specifically intended and instructed.
  3. If you are not using your camera for a long interval, unload the batteries and keep it where it will be safe from heat, dust, and moisture.
  4. Remove soil and dust from the lens, viewfinder window, etc. with an air blower and by wiping lightly with a piece of a soft cloth.
  5. Do not use solvents such as thinner and alcohol to remove soil.
  6. Keep the film chamber and camera interior clean to avoid damaging films.
  7. In hot weather, do not leave your camera in a closed car or on the beach, and do not leave it in moist places.
  8. Moth-repellent gas such as naphthalene adversely affects your camera and films. Avoid keeping your camera or films in a chest with mothballs.
  9. Your camera is computer-controlled. If you should experience an operational issue, remove the batteries and then reload them.
Note that the temperature range within which your camera can be used is +5°C/+41°F to +40°C/+104°F.

INSTAX mini FILM AND PRINT CARE
See FUJIFILM INSTAX mini film for fi lm use instructions. Follow all instructions for safe and proper use.

  1. Keep the film in a cool and dry place. Do not leave the film in a place where the temperature is extremely high (e.g., in a closed car).
  2. When you load a film pack, use the film as soon as possible.
  3. If the film has been kept in a place where the temperature is extremely high or low, bring it to room temperature before starting to take pictures.
  4. Be sure to use the film before the expiration or “Use Before” date.
  5. Avoid airport-checked luggage inspection and other strong X-ray illumination.
The effect of fogging, etc. may appear on unused film. We recommend that you carry the camera and/or the film onto the aircraft as carry-on luggage. (Check with each airport for more information).
  6. Avoiding strong light, keep the developed prints in a cool and dry place.
