  • Do not use an extension cord.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Integrated circuit breaker For additional safety, the power cord on this air conditioner features an integrated circuit breaker. You can test and reset the circuit breaker using the buttons provided on the plug case. Consult a qualified electrician or service person if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the air conditioner is properly grounded. The circuit breaker should be tested periodically by pressing the TEST button, then pressing the RESET button. If the TEST button does not cause the circuit breaker to trip, or if the RESET button does not stay engaged, unplug the air conditioner immediately and contact an Insignia technician. Preferred grounding method Temporary grounding Due to potential safety hazards, we strongly discourage the use of an adapter plug. If an adapter plug must be used for a temporary connection, use only a UL-listed adapter with a minimum capacity of 120V~60Hz, 13A, and 1560W. Make sure that the large slot of the adapter is aligned with the large slot in the outlet. To prevent damage to the adapter’s ground terminal, hold the adapter in place while plugging or unplugging the air conditioner. Attaching the adapter ground terminal to the wall receptacle cover screw does not ground the appliance unless the cover screw is metal and not insulated and the wall receptacle is grounded through the house wiring. Frequent connection and disconnection can damage the ground terminal on the adapter. Never use a broken or damaged adapter.

Do universal remotes work on air conditioners?

The short answer is yes; universal remotes do work with air conditioners. You can program your universal remote according to the specific type of air conditioner you have, and it will work just like a standard AC remote control.

How do you turn on an insignia air conditioner?

Press Power ( ) to turn your air conditioner on. On your air conditioner, press Mode repeatedly to select Cool, Dry, or Fan mode. Cool mode: The air conditioner cools your room. Dry mode: The fan and dehumidifier run to remove humidity from the air.

Why is my portable AC not cooling?

If your AC is blowing cold air out of the top vent, but your room still isn’t getting cold, your room is probably too hot or too large for the heat capacity of your air conditioner. Remember that portable air conditioners can only cool the room size they’re advertised for in moderate outdoor heat.

Why is my portable AC unit not blowing cold air?

Typically, the issue of portable air conditioner not blowing cold may be caused by problems such as a clogged filter, incorrect temperature setting, fan hiccups, etc.

Why does my portable AC have two drains?

Models with Dehumidification Mode have two drains. The upper drain plug is provided to allow automatic draining when there is a full tank, like in Dehumidification Mode or Cooling Mode in high humidity areas. This connection is threaded to allow connection to a garden hose fitting.

How long does it take a portable AC to cool a room?

In our AC tests, we measure how long it takes a portable air conditioner to lower the temperature in the test chamber from 90° F to 85° F. It takes at least 20 minutes—and often much longer. By comparison, the best window air conditioners can cool the room by 10° F in about 15 minutes or less.

Why is my portable AC blowing hot air?

In most cases, AC is blowing hot air due to problems within this cycle. The most common causes of AC blowing hot air include a faulty AC compressor and low refrigerant levels.

Why does my portable AC fill up with water so fast?

Part of the air cooling process involves expelling humidity from the air and it’s normal for the pan to fill up fast since it’s working harder to cool the room. In this case, even emptying once an hour is considered okay for some brands.

How do you drain an Insignia portable air conditioner?

Unplug your air conditioner, then disconnect the exhaust hose from the back. Move your air conditioner to a location where a suitable drain is available or place a drain pan under the unit that is capable of holding up to 1.37 pints (0.65 liters) of water.

Where does the water go in a portable air conditioner?

All portable air conditioners produce condensation as they are cooled. This water is then contained in an internal water reservoir or drained through a hose. On all of our models, this water reservoir has an auto shutoff feature so that water is never accidentally spilled onto the ground.

Which cools better window or portable air conditioner?

Window and portable air conditioners are both designed to cool a room, but their performance is not equal. A window AC cools a room the best and is more energy-efficient and affordable. A portable air AC is easier to install and is useful when your window is too small for a traditional unit.

Should the hose on a portable air conditioner get hot?

In most cases, a little bit of warmth is okay. But if your portable AC’s exhaust hose is getting excessively hot, that could mean trouble. In most cases, it’s an indication of an issue with the installation or operation of the air conditioner.

What happens when AC runs out of freon?

When your AC unit is low on freon, the evaporator coil gets too cold and causes the cold liquid refrigerant to flow back the refrigerant line. This will cause the surrounding moisture on the refrigerant line to freeze up.
