HOW TO USE

  1. Sip. Open the top cap and take 5 quick, strong sips to get water flowing.
  2. Backwash. Regularly blow air through your filter after drinking to keep the filter clean and prevent it from clogging. Close both caps when not in use.
  3. If using with a standard water bottle, unscrew the bottom cap of the straw, fill the water bottle with source water, and screw the bottom of the straw to the water bottle. Squeeze water through the straw.
  4. If using with a gravity system, attach the hose to the bottom of the straw filter, open the cap and allow water to flow out of the mouthpiece.

If storing your LifeStraw Peak Series Personal Water Filter Straw for greater than 1 month without use, we recommend following our long term storage instructions to preserve the longevity of the filter and to prevent clogging.

LONG-TERM STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Avoid drying out the filter by storing with a saline solution made by mixing a teaspoon of salt with water. This will keep the filter at its highest performance and maintain the hydrophilic properties of the membrane, while also preventing any mold or algae from growing during long-term storage. When the membrane becomes completely dried out, it can be difficult to get water to flow through again. Follow these steps if you have already used the LifeStraw Peak Series filter and you plan to store for greater than 1 month without use. If storing for longer than 3 months, we recommend cleaning with a diluted bleach solution prior to storage for increased disinfection. These instructions can be found at www.lifestraw.com.

  1. Immerse in Salt Solution. Fill a reusable container with 2 cups of water, add 1 teaspoon of salt and dissolve. With the bottom cap open, take a few small sips of salt water until the solution reaches the top mouthpiece. Close the caps to prepare for storage and to hold the saline solution inside.
  2. Store. Place the water filter straw into a reusable container and store in a cool, dry place.
  3.  Resume Use. To use your water filter straw again, blow any remaining solution out of the filter.

We recommend spitting out the first few sips of water as they may still taste salty. If you have additional questions about storage and maintenance for your LifeStraw Peak Series products, please email us at [email protected]
TIPS
Test your gear before you go! Follow the instructions to make sure your LifeStraw Peak Series Personal Water Filter Straw is operating as you expect it to. If you have difficulty drawing in water during first use, try priming the filter to make sure it’s hydrated. Do this by opening the bottom cap and letting the straw sit in water for 20 seconds. Slow flow rate? Blow air through mouthpiece to remove potential air bubbles in the membrane.
Note: LifeStraw Peak Series Personal Water Filter Straw will no longer filter water when the product has reached the end of its working life. Inability to sip water through the filter indicates that the product should be replaced. Questions? Contact [email protected] – we’re here to help!
