  • The barbecue is only intended for making food. Never use the barbecue for purposes other than for which it is intended, for example, as
*an eating source or for heating objects.
  • NOTE! Meat with a high-fat content may cause flare-ups.
  • The barbecue must be regularly cleaned of grease/oil, otherwise, the risk that the fat starts to burn is big. If grease catches fire, turn off all burners, turn off the gas and leave the lid closed until the fire is out.
  • The hose and regulator must be tested for leaks before starting barbecuing. See the section CHECKING FOR LEAKS.
  • Worn or damaged hoses must be replaced immediately. We recommend that the regulator kit be replaced every other year to ensure that the hose is in good condition.
  • The barbecue is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities or who have limited experience and knowledge unless they are supervised or instructed in using the barbecue by someone responsible for their safety. Children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with the barbecue.
  • The barbecue and gas cylinder must be connected to a CE-approved regulator and hose with correct operating gas pressure.
  • Using an improper regulator or hose is dangerous and can lead to personal injury.
  • The hose must be a maximum of 1.5 m long. Worn or damaged hoses must be replaced.

GAS CYLINDER

  • The gas cylinder must not be dropped or handled carelessly.
  • If the barbecue is not used, the gas cylinder must be disconnected and the safety cap mounted.
  • The gas cylinder must never be placed so that it is exposed to temperatures over 50° C. Therefore, do not place the gas cylinder directly under the barbecue. The gas cylinder must also never be placed or stored in places where there is a risk of fire or sparks, for example.
  • Do not smoke in the immediate vicinity of the gas cylinder.
  • It is prohibited to make any modifications to the gas cylinder. This can be fatal.
  • The maximum gas cylinder size is H:800 x W:350 mm.

CONNECTING THE GAS CYLINDER TO THE BARBECUE

  • Make sure the gas cylinder’s valve is closed.
  • Connect the regulator to the gas cylinder.
  • Connect the hose to the barbecue’s connector.
  • Make sure that the hose is not clogged, knotted or lying against any part of the barbecue other than the connector.
  • Check for leaks in the gas cylinder, regulator, hose and barbecue before starting to barbecue. See the section “Checking for leaks”.

CHECKING FOR LEAKS

  • Mix 50% soap with 50% water. Make sure that the gas valve on the gas cylinder is closed and that the pinion on the barbecue is closed.
  • Put a soap solution on the gas cylinder’s valve, the regulator, the hose, and the connector to the barbecue.
  • Open the gas valve on the gas cylinder. If there are small bubbles in any of the previously mentioned parts, this means that there is a leak.
  • Close the gas valve and tighten the hose connectors. Perform the test again.
If there is still a leak, contact your Rusta warehouse.

BURNERS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION
Why is there no seal between the burner and valve?
Answer: To burn correctly, the LPG needs to be mixed with oxygen, this is done where the valve joins the burner. To avoid poor combustion, the joint must not be sealed.

LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Open the hood and make sure all the burners are closed.
  2. Connect the regulator to the gas cylinder. Open the gas cylinder’s valve to release the liquefied petroleum gas.
  3. Press down on the knob on the barbecue and turn it counterclockwise to the MAX position. This releases the liquefied petroleum gas.
  4. If the burner does not light within 5 seconds, turn the knob to the off position and close the valve on the gas cylinder. Wait 3 minutes and then repeat steps 2, 3, and 4.
  5. When the barbecue is lit, repeat step 3 for the barbecue’s other burner.
  6. Close the door on the barbecue and let the barbecue warm up to the desired temperature.
  7. Turn the knob between MAX and MIN to adjust the heat.
  8. To turn it off, turn the gas cylinder’s valve to the closed position and then turn the knob on the barbecue clockwise to the off position.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

  • Let the barbecue/barbecue parts cool completely before cleaning them.
  • Make sure the fuel supply on the gas cylinder is closed.
  • The grease/oils that collect in the bottom of the barbecue, the drip plate, and heat distributors must be cleaned from the barbecue regularly, otherwise, there is a significant risk of the fat catching fire.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of the barbecue and the drip plate thoroughly and regularly.
  • If the barbecue is used in excessively corrosive environments, such as by the sea, it is extra important that the barbecue be cleaned often. Salt and moisture usually break down the barbecue’s protective outer surface, which can lead to surface rust.

CLEANING THE OUTSIDE OF THE BARBECUE

  • Wipe the outside of the barbecue with a soft sponge, a mild soap and water. Rinse with clean water and let it dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  • If there are any scratches/damage on the lacquer, it must be treated immediately to make sure it does not start to rust. Treat any scratches/damage on the lacquer by first rub away any rust and removing any paint flakes with a wire brush. Then paint with rust protection paint for metal in the relevant colour. Always follow the instructions on the paint tin.

CLEANING THE INSIDE OF THE BARBECUE

  • Remove the grill rack.
  • Wipe the barbecue with mild soap and water. Rinse with clean water and let it dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners or oven cleaners.
  • Before barbecuing, you can oil the grill rack with cooking oil so that the grill items do not stick.

CLEANING THE BURNERS

  • Remove the grill rack.
  • Clean the burners with a soft brush or blow it clean with compressed air. Wipe with a cloth.
  • Carefully clean the clogged openings with pipe cleaners and stiff wire (such as an open paper clip).
  • Make sure there is no damage to the burners (cracks or holes). Replace the burner if damage is found.
  • Reinstall the burners and make sure the gas valve’s mouth piece is firmly in the right position in the burner tube.
  • Inspect the flames at the burner. A good flame should be blue with a yellow tip. If flames are excessively yellow and irregular, oil residue and food deposits may be collected on the burner. Try cleaning the burner surface and the holes to improve the flames. Bad flames may also be caused by poor gas valves.

CLEANING THE GRILL RACK

  • Do not use sharp objects to clean the grill rack, since its surface can be damaged.
  • It is not necessary to clean the grill rack after each use. Let the barbecue burn at max power for about 5 minutes after grilling is finished and then remove the residue with a brush. Then wipe with paper towels.
  • However, the grill rack must occasionally be carefully cleaned. Use mild soap and water. Rinse with clean water and let it dry.
  • Before barbecuing, you can oil the grill rack with cooking oil so that the grill items do not stick.

CLEANING THE DRIP TRAY

Grease collects in the drip tray during barbecuing. Therefore, the drip tray must be cleaned regularly, preferably after each barbecuing. If the drip tray is not cleaned regularly, the grease may ignite during barbecuing.

INFORMATION ON STAINLESS STEEL

A common misconception about stainless steel is that it cannot oxidize, which is inaccurate. All steel can oxidize if the conditions for oxidation are right. However, stainless steel has a higher resistance to oxidation than non-stainless steel. This means that even stainless steel must be maintained to prevent oxidation and other corrosion. If not maintained, it is normal for the barbecue to suffer from so-called red oxide. This is considered normal and is not grounds for complaint.

CLEANING STAINLESS STEEL

  • Start by wiping the surface with a damp cloth and a mild soap. The surface must be clean and free of dirt and grease. Dry with a dry cloth.
  • If the barbecue has gotten surface rust, you can use a light polish, Autosol, on a cloth and polish the surface until the surface rust disappears. Wipe clean with a dry cloth.
  • To protect the surface, you can spray a thin layer of 5-56 or WD-40, two universal remedies to loosen red oxide and protect against moisture. Apply the product with a cloth so that you have an even coat.

NOTE! These products must not come in contact with the barbecue’s painted surfaces or surfaces that come in contact with food.

STORAGE

  • When the barbecue is not in use, it should be protected from rain and contaminants under a barbecue cover, this prevents contamination and surface rust.
  • For long-term storage, for example, in the winter, the barbecue must first be carefully cleaned, dried, and then stored under a barbecue cover in a dry and dust-free environment.
  • The gas cylinder must always be closed when the barbecue is not in use and disconnected before the barbecue is put in storage.

PROBLEM-SOLVING

Problem Possible causes Action
Burner does not ignite. Valve on LPG cylinder is shut. Open valve on LPG cylinder.
LPG cylinder is empty. Replace cylinder.
No sparks from the ignition system on the side of the burner when igniting. 1.  Check the cables to the ignitor are connected correctly.
2. Check the ignitor at the side of the burner is ap- proximately 2–3 mm from the edge of the burner and directed towards the burner. If the ignitor sits too far from the burner, there will be no spark when igniting. If the ignitor is too close to the bur- ner, the spark can be too small to cause ignition.
Burner or valves are blocked by fat, dirt or insect net. Clean burner and valves with pressurised air and pipe cleaner. Check the hole in the edge of the burner is not blocked by fat.
Temperature of the BBQ is too low. Insufficient preparation time. Close the lid and turn the knob to “high”.
Gas is blocked. 1.  Check there are no leaks. See section “check- ing for leaks”.
2.  Check the rubber washer on the LPG canister is intact.
3.  Check there are no kinks in the gas hose.
4.  Clean the burners.
It is windy. Shelter the BBQ from the wind.
Temperature of the BBQ is uneven. Burner or valves are blocked by fat, dirt or insect net. Clean burner and valves with pressurised air and pipe cleaner. Check the hole in the edge of the burner is not blocked by fat.
Intense flare ups. Food with high fat content being grilled. When grilling fatty meat or marinated meat, flare ups can occur. Remove some of the fat and marinade from the meat before grilling.
Old fat. The BBQ must be cleaned after each use, see section “cleaning and maintenance”. If the BBQ is not cleaned after each use, fat will build up that can burst into uncontrolled flames.
