The Arris / Surfboard SBG6400 is a DOCSIS 3.0 device offering 8×4 channel bonding and single band WiFi connectivity.

After the modem is successfully connected to the network, the Power, Receive, Send, and Online indicators illuminate continuously to indicate that the modem is online and fully operational.

The following ports are available on the back of the modem.
  • ETHERNET – Provides internet access to a single device. Only one port is active at a time. When a connected device is online, you will see one of the following lights.
    • Amber
      • LED is ON – Indicates 10/100 Base-T connection.
      • LED is OFF – Indicates GigE connection.
    • Green
      • LED is ON – Indicates a device connection is detected.
      • LED is Blinking – Indicates data traffic is in progress
  • USB – USB 2.0 port connection to your computer or other USB device.
  • Reset – Can be used to reboot the gateway or reset the gateway settings. (login/Reset instructions)
  • CABLE – Connects to the cable wall outlet.
  • Power – Connects the cable modem to the power adapter.

MAC Address

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F).
  • A MAC address is unique.
  • The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.
  • This information is usually found on a sticker located on the bottom of the modem.

Troubleshooting

The lights indicate the current status of your gateway. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Modem Light Status Problem
Power

Off No Power. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Green None
Receive  
Flashing Scanning for downstream channel is in progress. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem
Solid Green None. Connection from the computer to the internet is established on one channel.
Solid Blue None. The modem is operating on more than one channel (downstream bond mode).
Send

Off Upstream channel is inactive. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Flashing Scanning for upstream channel is in progress.
Solid Green None. Connection from the internet to the computer is established on one channel.
Solid Blue None. The modem is operating on more than one channel (upstream bond mode).
Online

Off No connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Green None. Cable modem is operational.
Flashing None. Scanning for configuration parameters.
Wireless
Off No devices connected.
Amber None. WPS Pairing process is underway between the SBG6400 and a WPS-enabled wireless device.
Green None. Any of the following applies.
  • 2.4 GHz wireless connection is made between the SBG6400 and another Wi-Fi enabled device on your home network.
  • The WPS Pairing process between the SBG6400 and WPS-enabled wireless device was successful.
  • The WPS Pairing process either failed or did not complete after two minutes.
USB

Solid Green None. USB connection is made between the SBG6400 and a computer or other USB device.
WPS Button

Note: This button is located on the top of the modem.

N/A There is no LED on the button.

Note: The Wireless LED will blink Amber to indicate the WPS pairing process is in progress.
