GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must be connected to a grounded wiring system. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a safe path of least resistance for electrical current, reducing the risk of electrical shock. The cord for this appliance has an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. It must only be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

Grounding pin diagram

WARNING: Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electrical shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you aren’t sure if the outlet is properly grounded. DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a  qualified electrician. This appliance is designed for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like the plug in the drawing above. Features List

Visual examples of features

Your BISSELL deep cleaner is a home cleaning system that uses a combination of heat, BISSELL advanced cleaning formula, brush agitation and suction to safely clean carpets.

Built-In-Heater

BISSELL ProHeat models all feature a patented built-in heater that will heat the hot tap water you put in up to 25 degrees hotter to safely optimize cleaning effectiveness. The heater will never allow the temperature to exceed 180 degrees. The heater switch, which is located on the side of the machine, controls the heater so you have the option to turn off the heat if you are cleaning delicate wool or oriental rugs.

DirtLifter® PowerBrush

The DirtLifter PowerBrush is designed to enhance cleaning performance. The bristle pattern safely lifts out the deep-down dirt while gently grooming carpet fibers. The floating suspension self-adjusts to all carpet heights. When the power is ON and the machine is in the upright position, your carpet is protected because the brushes are lifted up off the carpet.

Ready Tools™ Dial

The Ready Tools feature allows you to choose between FLOOR CLEANING or cleaning with TOOLS simply by turning the dial. The TOOLS setting allows for above-floor cleaning of upholstery, stairs, baseboards, and other hard-to-reach areas. Simply choose the tool that is appropriate for the job, attach it to the flex hose and you are ready to go.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, use only BISSELL advanced deep cleaning formula for full-size machines in your deep cleaner. The use of cleaning formulas that contain lemon or pine oil may damage this appliance and void the warranty. Chemical spot cleaners or solvent-based soil removers should not be used. These products may react with the plastic materials used in your deep cleaner causing cracking or pitting.

Measuring cup and carry handle

Scotchgard™ Protector

Carpet protection applied at the mill typically wears down over time from heavy foot traffic and everyday cleaning, including deep cleaning. To help restore this important protection, only BISSELL offers deep cleaning formulas with Scotchgard protector. This offers extra protection against dirt and tough stains to keep your carpets looking good longer. To maintain your Scotchgard 5-year limited stain warranty, you no longer are required to hire a professional. By using your  BISSELL ProHeat machine with BISSELL 2X formulas containing Scotchgard protector every 12 months, your carpet warranty from 3M remains in effect. No other home deep cleaning system can do this for you.

Measuring cup

Your deep cleaner is equipped with a measuring cup for adding the proper amount of formula to the 2-in-1 tank. For convenience, the measuring cup is built into the lid of the 2-in-1 tank.

2-in-1 water tank

Our 2-in-1 water tank system is designed with a heavy-duty bladder inside for clean water. As you clean, the clean water and formula in the bladder will empty.  Dirty water pulled out of your carpet will collect around the outside of the bladder so clean and dirty water is always kept separate. This allows the user to maximize tank space, yet only carry one tank to and from the sink for emptying and filling.

Removable Nozzle

Cleaning up your machine after you’re done has never been easier! Nozzle pops off for rinsing in the sink.

Operation

Before you clean

Moving the carpet cleaner around

  1. Move furniture to another area if cleaning an entire room (optional).
  2. Vacuum the area with a dry vacuum cleaner before deep cleaning.
  3. Plan your cleaning route to leave an exit path. It is best to begin cleaning in the corner farthest from your exit.
  4. Pretreating (optional) Pretreating is recommended to improve cleaning effectiveness for heavily soiled carpet in high-traffic areas such as entryways and hallways. To pretreat:

A. Using the BISSELL Tough Stain Pre-cleaner, generously spray evenly over soiled area, do not over wet.
B. Wait 3-5 minutes before the deep cleaning.
C. Clean as normal using your BISSELL PROheat®.

Emptying the Bissell carpet cleaner

ATTENTION: Some Berber carpets have a tendency to fuzz with wear. Repeated strokes in the same area with an ordinary vacuum or deep cleaner may aggravate this condition.

Fill the 2-in-1 water tank

  1. Remove the tank from the base of the machine by lifting the tank carry handle.
  2. Carry like a bucket to the sink. Rotate the handle forward to unlatch the lid. Remove lid, turn over and locate built-in measuring cup.
  3. Fill formula to the indicated fill line on the built-in measuring cup and pour into the mouth of the bladder.
  4. Fill the bladder with clean hot tap water. *Do not boil or microwave water as it can destroy the bladder.
  5. Replace the top of the tank by matching the lid and tank edges. The handle must be in the forward position in order to replace the lid. Rotate the handle to the carrying position to latch the lid. Note: Remember to secure the lid and test to make sure it is secure before picking up the tank.
  6. Place tank into machine base, seating firmly in place. Rotate the tank handle back into the latched position.

Handle release and power switch

Carpet cleaning

  1. Plug the deep cleaner into a proper outlet. Set ReadyTools dial to the Floor Cleaning set. Turn the power on by pressing the red power switch on the back of the unit with your foot. Turn heater switch (located on side of unit) to the on position. Allow one minute for the built-in heater to warm up before cleaning. NOTE: The ProHeat will be fully warmed and will provide optimal performance after a minute of continuous heated cleaning.
  2. With your foot, press the gray handle release lever located on the back of the unit below the water tank to detent the handle.
  3. While pressing the spray trigger, make one slow forward wet pass and another back. Let the built-in heater, BISSELL 2X advanced deep cleaning formula, and DirtLifter PowerBrush does the work for you. Caution: Do not overwet.
  4. Release the spray trigger and make one slow forward and backward pass over the same area to remove any residual dirty water and aid in drying.
  5. Repeat cleaning passes until a solution being suctioned up appears clean. Continue passes without pressing the trigger until you can’t see any more water being suctioned up.

Cleaning visual example

Tip: Thorough vacuuming before deep cleaning will prevent early clogging of the lint trap.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock due to internal component damage, use only BISSELL cleaning fluids intended for use with the deep cleaner. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm the machine and void the warranty.

Empty the 2-in-1 water tank/ clean removable nozzle

  1. Turn the power switch off. Remove the 2-in-1 water tank from the base using the tank carry handle. Carry the tank like a bucket to a utility sink or outside where you will dispose of the collection water. Remove the top of the tank by rotating the handle forward to unlatch the lid and lifting the lid off-tank.
  2. Empty collection water from the bottom of the tank.
  3. After each use, remove and rinse the lint screen located on the tank lid.
  4. If nozzle needs to be cleaned: remove by grasping handle at the top and pulling forward. Clean removable nozzle by rinsing under running water.
  5. When finished, replace the nozzle by slightly raising the front of the machine to line up slots on the base with the hooks on the nozzle. Attach at the base first and then click nozzle into place. NOTE: If the nozzle is not attached properly loss of suction will occur.
  6. To continue carpet cleaning, refer back to pages 9 and 10, beginning with “Fill the 2-in-1 water tank” on page 9. If cleaning is complete, refer to the “Maintenance and care” section on page 14.

Ready Tools™

Your ProHeat deep cleaner comes equipped with a hose and at least one attachment for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and more.

Important! If using the machine to clean upholstery, check upholstery tags.

  1. Check the manufacturer’s tag before cleaning. “W” or “WS” on the tag means you can use your project. If the tag is coded with “X” or “S” (with a diagonal strike-through), or says “Dry Clean Only,” do not proceed. Do not use velvet or silk. If the manufacturer’s tag is missing or not coded, check with your furniture dealer.
  2. Check for colorfastness in an inconspicuous place.
  3. If possible, check upholstery stuffing. Colored stuffing may bleed through the fabric when wet.
  4. Plan activities to give upholstery time to dry.

Getting tools ready

  1. Vacuum thoroughly to pick up loose debris and pet hair. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment and a crevice tool to clean in fabric folds and tufts.
  2. To begin cleaning with attachments, follow the instructions on page 9 for filling the 2-in-1 water tank.
  3. Set the ReadyTools dial to the TOOLS setting. This will allow spray and suction from the hose.
  4.  Attach the cleaning tool of your choice to the end of the hose.
  5.  Clean by pressing the trigger to spray the solution onto the area to be cleaned. Slowly move the tool back and forth over the soiled surface. Release the trigger to suction dirty water. Continue to clean in the area, working in small sections, until the dirt is removed. Caution: Do Not Overwet.
  6. When finished cleaning, remove and rinse tool(s) in clean, running water.
  7. It is recommended that you suction clean water from the tap to rinse out the hose.
  8. Before wrapping the hose onto the tool rack, lift the end of the hose and stretch out to ensure all water is cleared from the hose.
  9. Wrap flex hose around tool rack.
  10. Empty the 2-in-1 water tank and rinse out, following instructions on page 11.
  11. If the ReadyTools dial becomes difficult to turn, the diverter assembly that holds the dial may need to be cleaned. To clean, first, remove the nozzle and locate the screw that holds the diverter assembly in place. With a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw and set it aside.
  12.  Remove diverter assembly; hold under running water making sure water flows through and around the dial. Turn the dial about
  13.  times clockwise and 10 more times counterclockwise. This should free up any debris.
  14. Wipe diverter assembly with a soft cloth and replace back on the machine. Replace nozzle.
  15.  Return ReadyTools dial to FLOOR CLEANING setting.

Hard Floor Cleaning

Your deep cleaner may have included a hard floor tool and Hard Floor Solutions Formula. The hard floor tool provides effective cleaning for linoleum, vinyl, and tile floors.
Attaching the hard floor accessory

  2. Fill BISSELL 2X Hard Floor Solutions Formula to the indicated fill line in the built-in measuring cup and pour into the mouth of the bladder.
  3. Fill the bladder with clean hot tap water and set it aside.
  4. Attach the hard floor tool to the bottom of the machine by hooking it into the nozzle and swinging it down until it clicks into place.
  5. Be sure the ReadyTools dial is set to FLOOR CLEANING.
  6. Plug into an outlet and turn the power on.
  7. Plan your cleaning route to leave an exit path. Be sure to allow adequate time for floors to dry.
  8. While pressing the spray trigger, make one slow forward wet pass and another back. Caution: Do Not Overwet.
  9. Repeat the motion without pressing the trigger using the hard floor tool to squeegee and suction up the dirty water.
  10. When finished, remove the hard floor tool, rinse and let dry before storing. Refer to the Maintenance section on page 14 for machine clean-up and storage instructions.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock- when cleaning a hard floor, the BISSELL hard floor tool 203-5641 must be used and it must only be  used with BISSELL Hard Floor Solutions or BISSELL 2X Hard Floor Solutions cleaning fluid intended for use with this appliance.

Machine care

For best results, a few simple steps can assure your machine is well maintained after cleaning is complete.

  1. Turn power switch off. Unplug the machine and wrap the power cord.
  2. After emptying the 2-in-1 water tank, rinse it with running hot tap water, taking care to clean underneath and around the heavy duty bladder. Clean out red lint screen. The removable nozzle may be rinsed if necessary.
  3. Replace the 2-in-1 water tank on the machine.
  4. Any loose hair or debris can be pulled from the brush roll and thrown away.
  5. To clean attachments, remove them from the hose and rinse in clean, running water. Dry before storing. Clean the hose by suctioning clean water from the tap. Before  wrapping back on machine, lift the end of hose and stretch out to ensure all water is cleared from hose. Refer to page 12.
  6. Wipe the machine’s exterior with a soft cloth.
  7. After carpet is dry, vacuum again to remove hair and fuzz.

Carpet cleaning

  1. Plug into a proper outlet and push the on/off button located on the front of the handle.
  2. Recline the handle by pressing on the lever at the back of the machine behind the 2-in-1 water tank.
  3. Cleaning strokes. While pressing the trigger, make one slow forward wet pass and another one back. Caution: Do not overwet. Take care not to run over loose objects or edges of area rugs. stalling brush may result in premature belt failure.
Note: your machine is equipped with a circuit breaker that will automatically shut off the brush if a large or loose object is caught in the brush roll. If that happens, be sure to unplug your machine, remove the foreign object, and then plug the machine back in to reset the circuit breaker.
  4. Release the trigger and make one slow forward and backward pass over the same area to remove any residual dirty water and aid in drying. Repeat cleaning passes until the solution being pulled up appears clean. Continue passes without pressing the trigger until you can’t see any more water being pulled up.

Cleaning with attachments
Your deep cleaner comes equipped with a hose and at least one attachment for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and more.

  1. Important! if using to clean upholstery, check upholstery tags.
  2. Check manufacturer’s tag before cleaning. “W” or “Ws” on the tag means you can use your deep cleaner. if the tag is coded with an “X” or an “s” (with a  diagonal stripe through it), or says “Dry Clean Only”, do not proceed with any deep cleaning machine. Do not use on velvet or silk. If the manufacturer’s tag is missing or not coded, check with your furniture dealer.
    a. Check for colorfastness in an inconspicuous place.
    b. if possible, check upholstery stuffing. Colored stuffing may bleed through fabric when wet.
    c. Plan activities to allow upholstery time to dry.
    d. Pick up any loose dirt, debris and pet hair before deep cleaning.
    2. Follow the instructions on page 7 for filling the 2-in-1 water tank.
    3. The carpet deep cleaner is designed with an automatic diverter. simply lock the unit upright in order to clean with the hose.
    4. Attach the cleaning tool to the end of the hose.
    5. Plug in and turn on the power switch.
    6. Clean by pressing the trigger to spray solution onto the area to be cleaned. slowly move the tool back and forth over the soiled surface. Release the trigger to suction soiled water. Continue to clean in the area, working in small sections, until no more dirt can be removed. Rinse (optional) and suction as needed. Caution: Do not overwet.
    7. Remove and rinse tools in clean, running water. Dry and replace on the end of the hose.
    8. it is recommended that you suction clean water from a bowl to rinse out the hose.
    9. before replacing lift end of hose and stretch out to ensure all water is cleared from hose.
    10. Wrap flex hose around the hose rack.
    11. empty 2-in-1 water tank and rinse out, following the instructions on page 10.

Clean-up

  1. Turn machine off. Remove the tank from the base of the machine by lifting up on the tank carry handle. Carry like a bucket to a utility sink or outside where you will dispose of the dirty water.Bissell 47A21 Series - clean-up
  2. Unlatch the top of the tank from the bottom by lifting up on the tank latches on either side of the tank.
  3. Remove the top of the tank by lifting up on the handle.
  4. lift the bottom portion of the tank; pour out dirty water in the sink through the rectangular-shaped opening in the corner of the tank.
Note: you may notice hair & debris deposits on the carpet or in the tank that were loosened by the cleaning action. this debris should be picked up and thrown away. check the red lint filter near the duct on the back of the machine base for debris and remove it before continuing.
  5. Fill the heavy-duty bladder with clean hot tap water, following instructions on page 7.
NOTE: Remember to secure the tank latches and test to make sure it is secure before picking up the tank.
  6. Water rinse (recommended). Rinsing is an optional step that can be done during the cleaning process or after the carpeted area has been completed. empty the heavy-duty bladder if necessary, and refill with hot tap water only. Replace the tank on the machine. Take care to do a forward (wet) stroke by depressing the trigger, and a backward (wet) stroke, followed by a forward and backward (dry) stroke, releasing the trigger. Continue this until the water you see coming up the nozzle is clear. (see page 13 for more machine care tips.)

Stain removal
Do Not Delay! Attending to an accident soon after it occurs ensures the most optimal clean. leaving it for an extended period of time may cause it to set and become permanent.

  1. Blot up liquids with an absorbent cloth or paper towels. White materials are recommended because certain dyes may bleed and make the stain worse.
  2. Gently scrape up any semi-solids with a spoon or spatula. Do not use a knife or other utensil with sharp edges because it could damage the carpet or upholstery.
  3. If the area has already dried, separate and remove from the carpet whatever semi-solids and residue can be accessed before deep cleaning.
  4. Be sure to test any spot removal formulas in an inconspicuous area first. This is important as some dyes and materials could be damaged or discolored by cleaning solvents. if such a change should occur, try a different solution or call a professional.
  5. If cleaning on berber carpeting, gently run your machine over a hidden area. if no fuzzing occurs, continue cleaning in soiled area.
  6. Using the bissell Tough stain Pretreat, spray evenly over soiled area. Do not overwet. Wait 3-5 minutes. Gently work the solution by blotting the area with a clean,  damp, color-safe cloth.
  7. Clean large areas with the deep cleaning machine or use the hose to clean spots, stains, and hard-to-reach areas.

WARNING
To reduce the risk of fi re and electric shock due to internal component damage, use only BISSELL cleaning formula intended for use with this machine.

Keep plenty of genuine BISSELL Spot & Stain Cleaner formula for portable spot cleaning machines on hand so you can clean whenever it fits your schedule. Always use genuine BISSELL cleaning formulas.
Use Professional formula for optimal cleaning results!

NOTICE: Use of cleaning formulas that contain lemon or pine oil may damage this appliance and void the warranty. Chemical spot cleaners or solvent-based soil removers also should not be used. These products may react with the plastic materials used in your cleaner, causing cracking or pitting.

Assembly

WARNING
Do not plug in your cleaner until you are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures.

Slide the flex hose clip into opening on the front of the machine. You will hear a “snap” when it is locked into place.

Attach cord wrap by snapping it into place on the collection tank side of the machine.

Snap the hose grip bracket into the back of the machine on the clean tank side.

Snap the second tool storage (select models) into the back between the cord wrap and hose grip bracket.

Then wrap the flex hose around the unit and snap hose grip into bracket.

Wrap the power cord around the cord wrap.

Filling the Solution Tank

Remove the tank by lifting it straight up and away from the unit.

Pull black tab to reveal tank opening. The plug rotates out of the way for easy filling.

Add water to the indicated fill line on the solution tank.

Add the BISSELL formula to the indicated fill line on the solution tank.

NOTE: Follow the fi ll lines on your clean tank to add the correct amount of hot tap water (140 degrees F)/ 60 degrees C) MAX) and portable machine formula.
Note: There are different directions on the tank for small and large messes. DO NOT BOIL OR MICROWAVE WATER.

Replace the plug by rotating into place and pressing gently onto tank.

Replace tank by lining the tank bottom with indentations on machine. Press down firmly on tank to secure in position.

Pre-Treating

IMPORTANT: Check the manufacturer’s tag before cleaning upholstery. “W” or “WS” on the tag means you can use your cleaner. If the tag is coded with an “S” (with diagonal strike-through), or says “Dry Clean Only,” do not proceed. If the manufacturer’s tag is missing or not coded, check with your furniture dealer.

WHY PRETREAT? Cleaning effectiveness will be enhanced if you pre-treat heavily stained or highly soiled areas.

Let cleaning solution set for 5 minutes before cleaning.

Cleaning with Tools

WARNING
Keep spray away from face. Failure to do so may result in personal injury.
CLEANING WITH THE 3″ TOUGH STAIN TOOL

Attach the 3” tough stain tool to the handheld cleaning hose. Press the spray trigger to mist solution over and onto the soiled area. Release spray trigger and gently scrub the stain.

To lift the stain away, apply downward pressure on the tool and slowly pull it toward you. Then use “drying strokes” (by not pressing down the trigger) to remove the remaining moisture. Repeat as needed.

CLEANING WITH THE HYDRORINSE™ TOOL

Attach the HyrdoRinse™ tool to the cleaning hose. Hold the hose and attachment in an upright position. Then hold down the trigger to rinse the hose for 30 seconds.
The HydroRinse™ tool can be stored on the right handle or on the hose in between use.

CLEANING WITH THE 3-N-1 STAIR TOOL (select models)

Attach the 3-N-1 tool to the cleaning hose. This versatile 3-way tool sprays, scrubs and suctions up dirt and stains from the outer curves,  corner, and tread of a carpeted stairs. Twist the tool head to the desired setting to clean. The downward-facing edge is the active cleaning mode:  (a) use the flat area to clean the top of the stairs, (b) use a pointed edge to clean the inside the crevice, (c) use an indented area to clean the outer corner.

CLEANING WITH THE DEEP STAIN/REACH TOOL (optional accessory available for purchase)

Attach the deep stain/reach tool to the cleaning hose. Set the tool directly on top of the carpet before pulling the spray trigger to inject formula deep into the carpet fibers.
Always keep the tool in direct contact with carpeting to avoid over-spraying.
NOTE: Ensure that the cleaning solution and water are in the tank before use

Cleaning with Stain Trapper Tool

WARNING Keep spray away from face. Failure to do so may result in personal injury.

Attach the stain trapper tool to the end of the hose.

Slowly move the tool back and forth over the stain. Be careful not to move the tool back and forth too quickly or soiled water will flow back into the hose.

To empty the stain trapper tool, rotate the small tank on the bottom of the tool to unlock it.

Dump dirty water into a sink or toilet and rinse the tank out with clean water.

Replace the tank by lining up the locking teeth with their mating slots (make sure the two teeth that are closest together are pointed toward the brush). Turn the tank to lock it into place.

CLEANING THE STAIN TRAPPER TOOL: Clean the front of the tool by removing the plate over the suction plate. Pull down to remove and rinse with water. Then replace the plate by sliding it back into place.

To remove the dirty water collection tank simply lift up on the tank from the base of the machine.

Pull tab to remove plug from tank.

Carefully empty dirty water tank, as some water may potentially enter/drain from center float stack.

Close the tank plug and return tank to unit. Ensure tank is secure before use.

Turn the cleaner OFF.

Unplug cleaner from the electrical outlet.

Check the end of the hose and tool for blockages and remove if necessary. Check the float stack for clogs and remove debris

Let the motor cool for approximately 30 minutes. The thermal protector will automatically reset and cleaning may continue once plugged back in.

NOTE: If the thermal protector continues to activate after following the above steps, your cleaner may need servicing. Call BISSELL  Consumer Care or visit the website.

FAQ’S

How do I use the Little Green Proheat?

The Little Green Proheat is easy to use. Simply fill the tank with water and add your favourite cleaning solution. Plug the appliance into a grounded electrical outlet and turn it on.

How do I know when to empty the tank?

The Little Green Proheat has a handy indicator that tells you when to empty the dirty water. When the indicator light goes on, it’s time to empty the dirty water tank.

Can you use cold water in a Bissell Little Green ProHeat?

No. You must fill it with heated water.

Can you use Bissell Little Green without water?

No. While it does act as a vacuum for water, you would get a giant mess if using as a regular vacuum without the water running through it. Do not recommend at all.

Why is my Bissell Little Green leaking?

Leaking From the Bottom
You’ll need to make sure the collection tank is locked into place, just as if the leak was above the collection tank. If you’re still having issues, it’s likely due to the ball valve on the bottom of the tank.

Why does my Bissell not spray water?

If your machine is still not spraying, check to make sure the clean tank has water and/or the water & formula mixture in the tank. If your tank is empty, this could be the reason your machine is not spraying. You will need to fill your clean tank again. Reset the tank and ensure it sits snug on the machine.

Can I use vinegar and water in my Bissell?

Create a cleaning solution with one part white vinegar and one part hot water. Clean the window frames by wiping them down with a cloth that’s dampened with an all-purpose cleaner and water. Then wipe the solution away with a clean water cloth and dry the frame thoroughly.

Does the Bissell ProHeat actually heat the water?

But you might be a little disappointed if you expect this tool to heat up its own water. Despite its name being the Bissell ProHeat, this carpet cleaner doesn’t actually heat up the water it uses to clean your floors.

Can you put boiling water in Bissell?

After you get out your carpet cleaner, fill the clean tank to the line with hot (not boiling) tap water. Hot water does a better job cleaning than cold but, if you boil it, you run the risk of melting parts of your carpet cleaner.

Why is my Bissell Little Green not sucking?

If you are experiencing No/Low Suction, follow these steps to resolve: Check dirty water tank Turn off & unplug machine Remove & empty dirty water tank Firmly push dirty water tank plug back.

How do you deep clean a little green machine?

Make sure your machine is off and unplugged.
First you’ll need to empty and rinse the dirty water tank.
To remove the tank, lift it straight up and pull away from the unit.
Pull on the black tab and rinse out the tank with clean water after emptying.

Does a Bissell little green have a reset button?

Locate the brush reset button on the lower back right of the vacuum. Press the button to reset the brushroll To ensure the brush has been reset, plug the vacuum back into the electrical outlet. Turn on the vacuum detent the vacuum to begin cleaning Turn the brushroll on.

Your PowerSteamer is packaged as two primary components… the Lower Body and the Handle Assembly. To assemble:

  1. Slide the Handle Assembly (with attached Quick Release Cord Wrap™) down into the Lower Body until it will go no further.
  2. Secure the handle by placing one (1) Phillips head screw (supplied) through the screw opening in the Lower Body and into the rear of the Handle Assembly. Tighten with screwdriver until secure.
    Assembly is now complete.

What Comes With Your PowerSteamer

Keep plenty of BISSELL Advanced Deep Cleaning Formulas on hand so you can clean whenever it fits your schedule. Always use BISSELL deep cleaning formulas. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm your cleaner and void the warranty.

The Basics: How Your PowerSteamer Works

Power

The Power Switch controls power to the machine.

DirtLifter® Powerbrush (on select models)

The powered brush roll at the Floor Nozzle is designed to enhance cleaning performance. The bristle pattern lifts out the deep down dirt while gently grooming carpet fibers. The floating suspension self-adjusts to all carpet heights and protects your carpet if you leave the Power Switch ON. When the machine handle is in the fully upright position, CarpetSaver™ automatically raises the brush off the carpet.

Measuring Cup

Your PowerSteamer is equipped with a Measuring Cup for adding the proper amount of cleaning formula to the Tank-in-Tank™. Before using the machine, simply fill the Measuring Cup to the fill line with BISSELL
Advanced Deep Cleaning Formula. Pour the formula into the Tank-in-Tank as shown on page 7. For convenience, the Measuring Cup stores on the back of the unit.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury unplug from outlet before servicing.

To Fill The Tank-in-Tank

This easy-to-use system is designed with a bladder inside to hold clean water. As you clean, the bladder will empty. Dirty water collects in the tank outside the bladder.

NOTE: Make sure to add formula to the tank before filling it with water.

    1. Depress the Handle Release pedal to tilt back the handle.
    2. Lift the Tank-in-Tank handle. The handle locks the lid in place. Carry the Tank-in-Tank like a bucket to fill at the sink.
    1. Set the Tank down and rotate the handle forward to unlatch the Lid. Lift off and set the Lid aside.
    2. Using the Measuring Cup, pour BISSELL Deep Cleaning Formula into the mouth of the bladder.
  1. Fill to the bottom of the neck with hot tap water. Do not boil or microwave water.
NOTE: Fill slowly to reduce sudsing.
  2. Replace the Tank Lid, matching the Lid and Tank edges. Rotate the handle to carrying position. Replace Tank in machine base, seating firmly in place. Rotate handle back down to latched position.

When It’s Time To Empty The Tank-in-Tank

NOTE: Remove the Tank-in-Tank, following steps 1. and 2. on page 7.

  1. Carry the Tank-in-Tank, like a bucket, to the sink. Remove Tank Lid. Pour out dirty water.
  2. After each use, remove and rinse the Lint Screen located on the Tank Lid.
    1. Remove Tank Lid.
    2. Remove Lint Screen and rinse under faucet. Remove any debris caught in Lint Screen.
    3. Reinsert Lint Screen on Tank Lid. The screen will click into place.
    4. Replace Tank Lid.
  3. Refill with cleaning solution and clean tap water—follow steps 2-5. on page 7.
  4. When a cleaning job is complete, rinse out the Tank-in-Tank by running clean water between the bladder and the tank.
  5. Return the Tank-in-Tank to the machine, follow step 6 on page 7.
  6. Refer to the Storage section on page 13 for final cleanup.

Tip: A special red float device in the tank will cause the cleaner to stop removing solution from the carpet. The motor sound will rise in pitch to let you know the dirty water tank is full.

This provides floor or upholstery cleaning with the turn of a dial. For carpet/floor cleaning make sure the dial is set to FLOOR CLEANING. For upholstery or fabric cleaning, select your cleaning tool, attach it to the Flex Hose, switch to Tools Settings and the PowerSteamer is ready to clean upholstery, fabrics and more*

* Set the switch to FLOOR CLEANING when cleaning carpets, or set it to TOOLS/PRETREAT when using the Flex Hose attachments.

How To Clean Carpets

  1. Plan activities to give carpet time to dry.
  2. Remove easily moved furniture from the room (chairs, lamps, coffee tables, etc.).
  3. Vacuum thoroughly to pick up loose debris and pet hair before using the PowerSteamer.
  4. Plan your cleaning route to leave an exit path. It is best to begin cleaning in the corner farthest from your exit.

NOTE: You may notice hair and debris deposits on carpet that were loosened by brushing action
(especially with newer carpets that have never been deep cleaned before). This debris should be picked up by hand and thrown away. Debris that deposits in the Brush Belt area should be cleaned out to keep Belts running free.

Pretreating

Improves cleaning effectiveness for heavily soiled carpet in high traffic areas, such as entryways and hallways.

  1. Set the ReadyTools Dial to TOOLS/PRETREAT.
  2. Plug the PowerSteamer into a proper outlet and turn ON the Power switch.
  3. While pressing the Spray Release trigger, slowly make sev-eral passes over the area to be cleaned.
    Caution: Do not overwet.
  4. Turn the machine Power Switch OFF and let the BISSELL Advanced Deep Cleaning Formula dissolve the tough soil for 1 to 2 minutes. Reset the ReadyTools Dial to FLOOR CLEANING before continuing.
Normal Cleaning
  • Plug the PowerSteamer into a proper outlet and turn ON the Power Switch.
  • While pressing the Spray Release Trigger, make one slow forward and back wet pass. Let the BISSELL Advanced Deep Cleaning Formula and DirtLifter PowerBrush* do the work for you. *On select models
    Caution: Do not overwet.
  • Release the Trigger and make one slow forward and back pass over the same area to remove any residual dirty water.
  • Repeat cleaning passes without pressing the Trigger until you can’t see any more water being suctioned up.
  • When cleaning job is complete, refer to the Maintenance/Storage section on page 13.

How To Clean Upholstery and Small Areas

Important – Check Upholstery Tags

Check manufacturer’s tag before cleaning. A “W” or “WS” on the tag means you can use your PowerSteamer. If the tag is coded with an “X” or “S” (with a diagonal strike through), or says “Dry Clean Only,” do not proceed. Do not use your PowerSteamer on velvet or silk. If manufacturer’s tag is missing or not coded, check with your furniture dealer.

  • Check for colorfastness in an inconspicuous place.
  • If possible, check upholstery stuffing. Colored stuffing may bleed through fabric when wet.
  • Plan activities to give upholstery time to dry.
  • Vacuum thoroughly to pick up loose debris and pet hair. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment and a crevice tool to clean in fabric folds and tufts.

Machine Preparation

  1. Set up the machine following instructions in The Basics sec-tion, pages 6-9.
  2. Using the Measuring Cup provided, pour BISSELL Advanced Deep Cleaning Formula into the Tank-in-Tank.
  3. Set the ReadyTools Dial to TOOLS/PRETREAT.

Maintenance/Storage

  1. Turn Power Switch OFF.
  2. Unplug Power Cord from outlet and coil cord around Power Cord Quick Release.
  3. Remove and rinse tools, if used, in clean, running water. Dry and replace.
  4. Coil Flex Hose through storage brackets.
  5. Remove Tank-in-Tank. Dispose of dirty water. See The Basics section, page 8.
  6. Rinse out Tank-in-Tank and reseat the tank unto the machine.
  7. Wipe all exterior surfaces with a soft cloth.
  8. Store cleaner in a protected, dry area.
  9. When carpet is dry, vacuum again to remove hair and fuzz that the PowerSteamer may have loosened.

CAUTION:® PowerSteamer uses water and must not be stored where there is a danger of freezing. Freezing will damage internal components and void the warranty.

Operations

Cleaning fluid

Keep plenty of genuine BISSELL 2X formula on hand so you can clean and protect whenever it fits your schedule. Always use genuine BISSELL deep cleaning formulas. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm the machine and will void the warranty.

Special Features

Your BISSELL PROheat 2X deep cleaner is a home cleaning system that uses the power of heat, brushes, and cleaning formula to get the deep down dirt for a maximum clean. Not only does it come with several unique features, it has been designed with you, the customer, in mind.

Built-in-Heater feature

BISSELL PROheat 2X models all feature a patented built-in heater which will heat the hot tap water you put in up to 25 degrees hot-ter to safely optimize cleaning effectiveness. The heater will never allow the temperature to exceed 190°F. The heater switch on the front of the machine controls the heater so you have the option to turn off the heat if you are cleaning delicate wool or oriental rugs.

2-in-1 Clean Water & Formula Tank

Our 2-in-1 tank full capacity system is designed with a heavy duty bladder inside for clean water. As you clean, dirty water pulled out of your carpets will collect around the outside of the bladder so that clean and dirty water are always kept separate. This allows you to only carry one tank to and from the sink for emptying

ReadyTools™ Dial

This provides either floor cleaning or above floor cleaning with the turn of a knob. Choose “TOOLS” setting for stairs, upholstery, and hard to reach areas and “FLOOR CLEANING” for carpets, area rugs and bare floors.

Before you clean

  1.  Move furniture to another area if cleaning an entire room (optional).
  2. Pick up all loose dirt, debris, and pet hair before deep cleaning. If you’re cleaning just a small area of carpeting or less than a whole room, the ProHeat 2X Deep Cleaner may be used to vacuum the area before deep cleaning. If so, be sure to keep the red filter screen (in the 2-in-1 tank lid) cleaned of lint so that suction is maintained. When you’re done, clear the red filter screen and then rinse both the dirty water and the clean solution tank (inside the flexible bladder) with warm water before starting the deep cleaning process.
  3. Plan your cleaning route to leave an exit path. It is best to begin cleaning in the corner farthest from your exit.
  4. Pretreating (optional) Pretreating is recommended to improve cleaning effectiveness for heavily soiled carpet in high traffic areas such as entryways and hallways.
BISSELL Stain PreTreat
  • Spray the BISSELL Stain PreTreat formula onto heavy traffic areas, soiled areas, or stains.
  • Allow to penetrate for at least 3 minutes.
  • Clean as normal, using the BISSELL
PROheat 2X machine on the high traffic setting, following the instructions below.

Some Berber carpets have a tendency to fuzz with wear. Repeated strokes in the same area with an ordinary vacuum or deep cleaner may aggravate this condition. Please see Stain Removal instructions on page 10.

Carpet cleaning

Fill the 2-in-1 Water Tank. Remove the tank from the base of the machine by lifting up the tank carry handle. Carry like a bucket to the sink.

  • Unlatch the top of the tank from the bottom by lifting up on the tank latch located on the back of the tank.
  • Remove the top of the tank by lifting up on the handle.
  • Note how the lip on the top tank separates from the groove in the bottom tank. This placement is important when putting the tank back together.
  • The measuring cup provided holds 2.5oz when filled to the fill line. Using the measuring cup provided, pour 5oz of BISSELL 2X formula into the heavy duty bladder. Fill the rest of the heavy duty bladder with hot tap water (140°F/60°C MAX). DO NOT BOIL OR MICROWAVE WATER.
NOTE: Always use genuine BISSELL 2X formulas to maximize cleaning and for the safety of your machine.
  • Leaving the filled bottom of the tank on a flat surface, only maneuver the top of the tank. To attach the top part of the tank to the bottom, carefully hook the lip on the top tank into the groove on the bottom tank.
  • Fasten tanks together by securing the latch in the back.

NOTE: Remember to secure the tank latch in the back and test to make sure it is secure before picking up the tank.

Cleaning With Attachments

Your PROheat 2X machine comes equipped with a hose and at least one attachment for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and more.

  1. Important! If using to clean upholstery, check upholstery tags.
    a. Check manufacturers tag before cleaning.  on the tag means you can use your PROheat 2X. If the tag is coded with an (with a diagonal stripe through it), or says Dry, Clean Only, do not proceed with any deep cleaning machine. Do not use on velvet or silk. If manufacturer’s tag is missing or not coded, check with your furniture dealer.
    b. Check for colorfastness in an inconspicuous place.
    c. If possible, check upholstery stuffing. Colored stuffing may bleed through fabric when wet.
    d. Plan activities to allow upholstery time to dry.
    e. Pick up any loose dirt, debris and pet hair before deep cleaning.
  2.  Follow the instructions on page 7 for filling the 2-in-1 water and formula tank.
  3.  Set ReadyTools dial to the TOOLS setting. This will allow spray and suction from the hose.
  4.  Attach the cleaning tool to the end of the hose.
  5.  Plug in and turn on the power switch and heater (if desired).
Caution: Do no overwet.
  7. Remove and rinse tools in clean, running water. Dry and replace in the tool caddy.
  8. It is recommended that you suction clean water from a bowl to rinse out the hose.
  9. Before replacing lift end of hose and stretch out to ensure all water is cleared from hose.
  10. Wrap flex hose around the tool caddy.
  11. Empty 2-in-1 water tank and rinse out, following the instructions on page 8.
  12. Return ReadyTools dial to floor setting.

NOTE: If your deep cleaner came with a Deep Reach Tool or Stain Trapper Tool, do not follow cleaning instructions below. Instead, follow instructions in next section.

Deep Reach Tool attachment

1. Follow instructions 1-5 on page 9 under “Cleaning with attachments”.
2. Set tool on stain and press the trigger to spray solution onto the area to be cleaned.
3. Slowly move the tool back and forth over the soiled surface, keeping the tool in contact with the carpet.
4. Release trigger and move tool slowly over the soiled area to suction up water and dirt.
5. Continue to clean the area, working in small sections, until no more dirt can be removed.
6. Remove tool from hose when finished. Clean under warm water before storing.

  3. If the area has already dried, separate and remove from the carpet whatever semi-solids
  6. Using the BISSELL Stain PreTreat, spray evenly over soiled area. Do not overwet. Wait 3-5 minutes. Gently work the solution by blotting area with a clean, damp, color safe cloth.
  7. Clean using either the FLOOR CLEANING, or TOOLS setting on the ReadyTools dial.

Cleaning with the Stain Trapper Tool

  1. Follow steps 1-5 on page 9.
  2. Gently scrape up any semi-solids with a spoon or spatula. Do not use a knife or other utensil with sharp edges because it could damage the carpet or upholstery.
  3. Plug in and turn on the power switch.
  4. Clean by pressing the trigger to spray solu-tion onto the area to be cleaned. Slowly move the tool back and forth over the soiled surface. Release the trigger to suction soiled water. Continue to clean in the area, working in small sections, until no more dirt can be removed. Rinse (optional) and suction as needed.
    CAUTION: Do not overwet.
NOTE: Do not fill the Stain Trapper tank above the FULL line.
  5. To empty the Stain Trapper tool, rotate the small tank on the bottom of the tool to unlock it.
NOTE: Be careful to keep the top of the tool facing upward or soiled water will spill out of the tank.
  6. Dump dirty water into a sink or toilet and rinse the tank out with clean water. Replace the tank by lining up the “unlock” symbol with the small arrow on the tank and turning it to the “lock” symbol.
  7. Clean the front of the tool by removing the plate over the suction path. Pull down on the bottom of the plate to remove. Run the tool and the plate under clean water to rinse taking care to remove all debris. Replace the front plate by sliding it back into place.

Maintenance & Care

Machine storage

Once your cleaning is complete, make sure the 2-in-1 water tank is emptied, rinsed out, and dried before the next use. The formula tank can remain filled and ready to go.
NOTE: Store cleaner in a protected, dry area. Since this product uses water, it must not be stored where there is a danger of freezing. Freezing will damage internal components and void the warranty.

Machine care

For best results, a few simple steps can assure your machine is well maintained after your cleaning is complete.

  1. Flush your machine of any remaining residual solution.
    a. Fill the 2-in-1 clean water tank with clean hot tap water.
    b. Plug your machine into a proper outlet and set the Custom Clean dial to the rinse setting. Turn the power on by pressing the power button.
    c. Recline the handle and press the spray trigger for 15 seconds while making forward and backward passes on carpet. Release the trigger to suction. Repeat for another 15 sec-onds. Continue without pressing the trigger until there is no more water being suctioned.
  2. Turn power and heater switches OFF (O). Unplug the machine and wrap the power cord. Empty the 2-in-1 water tank.
  3. Rinse out 2-in-1 water tank, with running hot tap water, taking care to clean underneath the heavy duty bladder, and all around it.
  4. The top half of the tank can be rinsed clean through the nozzle area. Also, pop out the red filter underneath the top half of the tank and rinse out. Replace before putting the top and bottom halves of the tank together.
  5. Before you place the cleaned 2-in-1 water tank back onto the machine, remove the red solution filter cap (on the base of the machine). Remove the cap by inserting a coin or a flat head screw driver into the slot on the top. Turn counter clock wise and unscrew. Set aside.
  6. Keeping the 2-in-1 water tank off of the base of the machine, simply unscrew the floor nozzle using a Phillips head screwdriver. This can be rinsed out at the faucet. Then replace back onto the machine by starting from the bottom of the nozzle and hooking the tabs into the holes on the bottom sides of the machine. Secure into place with the screw.
  7. The inside of the end caps by the brush rolls can be wiped out with a clean paper towel, or, if a more thorough cleaning is desired, the end caps can be taken off using a Phillips head screwdriver and rinsed clean. Replace after cleaning.
  8. Any loose hair or debris can be pulled from the brush rolls and thrown away. For the most thorough clean before storage, follow directions for removal and replacement of the brush rolls and belts.
  9. To clean attachments that may have been used, remove from hose and rinse under clean, running water. Dry and replace attachment in the tool caddy. Clean the hose by suctioning clean water from the tap. Before replacing, lift end of hose and stretch out to ensure all water is cleared from hose. Refer to page 10.
  10. After carpet is dry, vacuum again to remove hair and fuzz.

Small belt removal and replacement

Occasional replacement of one or both belts may become necessary. If that is needed, please follow the instructions below.

1. Turn off the machine, and unplug it from the outlet.
2. Remove both the 2-in-1 water tank and the formula tank. Set aside.
3. Unscrew the front nozzle and remove it. Set aside.
4. Turn the machine on its side.
IMPORTANT: cord side down.
5. Remove the clear end cap by unscrewing the 2 black screws. Take care not to drop the screws into the unit.
6. Remove 1 silver screw.
7. Remove pivot arm by gently lifting up.
8. Remove small brush belt.
9. Replace small brush belt, and reverse steps above.

Brush removal and large belt replacement

Brushes can be removed for cleaning or replacement as needed.

1. Follow small belt removal instructions above.
2. Remove brush rolls by pulling them off of the metal rods. Be careful not to lose the small washer at each end of the brush rolls.
3. Place cleaned or new brush rolls back onto the rods. Make sure one washer is on each end of the rollers prior to sliding onto the rod. Be sure to let the rod slide through the bushing to insure proper fit.
4. Re-attach the long belt on the bottom to the cogs of the small roller brushes.
5. Place small belt over back roller and metal cog.
6. Place pivot arm in place and screw in place using the silver screw.
7. Re-attach clear end cap by tightening with the (2) black screws.
8. Return front nozzle to front of unit, by latching from underneath and then securing with a screw.
If you have any questions or are having trouble installing or replacing your belt(s) or brushes, please call BISSELL Consumer Care.
