Kwikset Smart Key Lock Instruction Manual
INSTRUCTIONS TO REKEY YOUR SMARTKEY LOCK. Definition of Rekey: Resetting your cylinder to work with a different Kwikset key. Save these instructions and the SmartKey tool to use when you want to rekey your lock.
TO REKEY YOUR LOCK
FOLLOW STEPS BELOW – READING EACH STEP COMPLETELY BEFORE BEGINNING! (Note, deadbolt product shown but rekeying instructions are the same for all products with the SmartKey feature.)
- Make sure lock is mounted on door and that the door is opened from the door frame.
- Insert the key that currently works with the lock, see figure A.
- Rotate the key 1/4 turn to a horizontal position. See figure B.
- With the key in the horizontal position, insert the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey tool hole. See figure C. Then remove the SmartKey tool.
- Now, keeping the key horizontal, carefully remove the key. (Note: If key does not remove, repeat step 4 – above.)
- Referring to figure D, insert the new key , making sure key away from the horizontal position.
- Referring to figure E, rotate the new key (1/4 turn) to the vertical position.
- Now, rotate the new key back to the horizontal position and try to remove the key.
- If key does remove, you have successfully rekeyed your lock.
- If key does remove, rekeying was not successful and you should – reinsert that key, and repeat steps 4, 7 and 8.
- If problem persists call the number below.
What size door does this fit?
It will fit a standard exterior door which can have a width of 30″ to 36″ and 80″ high. Their are two standard setbacks for the latch bolt and this one fits either 2 3/8″ Or 2 3/4″ Backset applications. Most exterior doors are 1-3/4″ thick and this one works for that or the door could be thinner also and it would work.
Should there be one or two door locks in the $ 30 set?
Yes for that price. There should be two piece door set. Because my self it really helped out when they can use the same key for both and it’s good because you could change out the key for a new key without going to a key shop for new ones.
Do the latches come with the round collars or just rectangle plate for the door strike?
It only came with the plate
How many doors is this kit for?
One set (four pieces) per one door. Bottom lock and top lock inside the door and bottom lock and top lock outside the door.
Does this come with the tool to rekey? Or must you buy that tool separate?
It conned with a tool to rekey…. it’s tall simple actually.
Is the tylo or Juno series better?
Juno is grade 2 and Tylo is grade 3 and feels cheaper to me.
is this set smartkey? picture dosent show?
Yes this is the smart key
Is this easy to install?
If the new door is pre-drilled or if you are changing an existing lock set this is very easy to install. Also there are many YouTube videos that show how to install.
Can you key this lock to your current key?
Yes. As long as the style of key is the same.
Why does the deadbolt and knob open/close in two different directions?
It all depends on which type of door you install it on
what type of bore hole measurements can these fit into? specific measurements?

Does this come with a set of keys?
Yes.
will it fit a door 1 1/2′ thick?
Yes. 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 door. The two long screws will do the job.
Does it include the strike plate also?
Yes, it includes the strike plate.
Does anyone know the difference between the tylo and the juno series of these locks? juno seems more expensive. is it better?
Tylo is the basic design of Kwikset lock. Juno is a more circular design
Will this fit a door with a 2in bore hole in the door for the actual handle?
Very
Does this stay locked after opening from inside, meaning it stays locked until you unlock it but can open & close?
No.
Is this just the exterior pack, or does it have the interior also?
It has the matching interior knob and deadbolt lock.
