SIZES
About 19 x 74 in. (48.5 x 188 cm) at longest and widest, not including fringe
MATERIALS
- Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick® (Art. #640) o # 542
Seagrass 4 balls - Lion Brand® circular knitting needle size 13 (9 mm), 29 in. (73.5 cm) long
- Lion Brand® crochet hook size K-10.5 (6.5 mm) for fringe
- Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle
GAUGE
8 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter st (knit every st on every row). EXACT GAUGE IS NOT ESSENTIAL FOR THIS PROJECT.
STITCH EXPLANATION
kef (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
- Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
- Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the St. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
- Drop the st from your left hand needle you have increased 1 St.
NOTES
- The Shawl is worked in one piece on a circular needle.
- A circular needle is used to accommodate the bulky sts. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle, just as if working on straight needles.
- Simple increases and decreases are worked to shape the Shawl.
SHAWL
Cast on 2 sts.
Set Up Row: Knit.
Row 1 (Increase row): Kef, knit to end you’ll now have 3 sts.
Rows 2-4: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1-4 until you have 38 sts,
Note
Beginning on the next row, you’ll start to decrease to shape the remaining end of the Shawl.
Next Row (Decrease row): K2tog, knit to end of row you’ll now have 37 sts. Knit 3 rows.
Repeat the last 4 rows until you have just 3 sts remaining.
Next Row: K2tog, k1.
Last Row: Knit.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
FRINGE
Cut an 11 in. (28 cm) strand of yarn. Fold yarn strand in half. With crochet hook, draw fold through edge of Shawl, forming a loop. Pull yarn ends through this loop and pull to tighten. Continue attaching fringes evenly spaced along shaped edges of Shawl. Trim fringe ends evenly.
