Frequently Asked Questions

Do Skar speakers need to break in?
We find that it is generally about a week of regular music listening in vehicle that is driven daily. After those beginning 24 to 36 hours, you can re-tune your system backup to the original setting. Your subwoofer is now broken in and prepared.

What is better 2ohm or 4ohm?
A subwoofer with a short electrical resistance produces a louder sound than one with a high electrical resistance which implies that 2ohm subwoofers are somewhat louder than 4ohm ones. Although they are louder but the 2ohm subwoofers due to its power consumption, are also more likely to produce a poorer quality of sound.

How long does it take to break in a subwoofer?
Subwoofers require a break-in period to reach their optimum sound quality. It takes approximately 20 to 100 hours to break in a subwoofer. You can also opt for a system that was broken in at the factory if you do not want to deal with this.

Do Skar amps have fuses?
Skar Audio contains a wide range for their amp lineup and in most cases, the user is going to require an ANL style fuse to use in-line with their power wire to protect the amplifier.

What happens if you don’t break in subwoofer?
If you do not break them in, you take the risk that you will damage the important components of the woofer including the spider, surround and the cone. You also take chance of burning the coil.

How do you know when your subs are broken in?
After the subwoofer is broken-in properly, you will observe that it plays deeper, with increased output and more dynamic range.

Why is my amp getting hot and shutting off?
There are many different reasons for the amplifier to get hot and shut down such as poor power or ground connections, punch/gain Bass control settings too high, too low an impedance, or grounded/blown speakers.

Do subwoofers get louder as they break-in?
Subwoofers should not get louder after they are broken in. rather, they will adjust to the differing frequencies provided and will most functionally play the sounds that are coming through.

Do Subs smell when breaking in?
It is common for the subwoofers to smell after they break in for the first time. This is due to the reason that the glue requires time to burn off so this should vanish in a few days or if you have been using it for a while.
